The Path of Life; David’s Monument; Not Left in Hades; Foresight; On the Right; Psalms 16

Wouldn’t it be great if someone told us the secret to life was to simply follow the yellow brick road, and then magically, a yellow brick road appeared? All we would have to do is start walking and we would be on the path of life.  David had a vision and gave us the secrets to the path of life; then David’s Psalm was inscribed on a Monument for people to read and understand. The apostle Peter quotes David’s Psalm on Pentecost to explain Jesus, which then gave more people the path to life. David had a vision of the future and understood that the beloved of Yahweh were not left for destruction. David’s perspective is different than ours as we do not quite understand the earthborn and who David was dealing with during his kingship. David says that Yahweh is our inheritance and that Yahweh educates our emotions. David tells us twice that Yahweh is at our right side. David camps out on this vision; it is what he puts his expectation in.

Psalms 16:0 G4739.2 An inscription on a monument; G3588 to G* David.

There are six Psalms that are labeled as an inscription on a monument. The word logography means written words. There was a monument to, or of David, probably in the City of David. There were many monuments set up all over Israel. Monuments told the stories of battles. Monuments told of peoples’ visions, such as Jacob’s dream of a ladder. Sometimes they were prophetic, as Josiah found out. They told stories of great men. Sometimes monuments were used at important people’s tombs. They were warnings, such as the pillar of salt (Lot’s wife), as Solomon told us it is a monument of an unbelieving soul. Monuments were also used as markers for directions. In later years rulers and kings put up monuments to themselves. David had several monuments. This is how people knew the stories of David and how Peter was able to recite David’s prophecy. There are monuments of Psalms 56, 57, 58, 59, and 60, as well as Psalms 16.  We do not know if these were all in one place, or all one monument. But this is how people learned the news and the prophecies. Psalms 56 is in regards to the Philistines in Gath. Psalms 57 is an inscription about David running from Saul. Psalms 58 is a general Psalm of judgment. Psalms 59 is a monument in regards to Saul, and Psalms 60 is inscribed regarding a battle in Mesopotamia and Syria. It is unfortunate that we no longer have these monuments as we could have learned so much from them.

Psalms 16:1 G5442 Guard G1473 me, G2962 O lord, G3754 for G1909 upon G1473 you G1679 I hoped!

“You keep watch and ward Yahweh because upon you I hope.”

People were directed to Yahweh who watches and guards those who hope in Him.  As with any poem or song, there is a smoothness or rhythm when it is written that does not always transfer when translating into other languages. We see that here in this Psalm.

Psalms 16:2 G2036 I said G3588 to the G2962 lord, G2962 [2my lord G1473   G1510.2.2 1You are], G1473   G3754 for G3588   G18 [4of my goodness G1473   G3756 2no G5532 3need G2192 1you have].

“Say Yahweh, you are my Yahweh, because have not use my good.”

The Lord Yahweh is David’s Lord. David is saying that Yahweh has no need or use for David’s intrinsically good nature. We are the ones who have need of Him. He is not our Lord because of our goodness, He is Lord in spite of us. Our goodness doesn’t change His goodness.

Psalms 16:3 G3588 [4the G39 5holy ones G3588   G1722 6in G3588   G1093 7his land G1473   G2298.1 3wondered G3588 1The G2962 2 lord], G3956 all G3588   G2307 his willing ones G1473   G1722 among G1473 them.

“The saints in your earth be delighted Yahweh.  All you desire in me”

The saints are delighted in Yahweh, and in like manner Yahweh delights in the saints. All Yahweh desires is in us.

Psalms 16:4 G4129 [2were multiplied G3588   G769 1Their weaknesses] -- G1473   G3326 [2after G3778 3these gods G5035.1 1they that hastened]. G3766.2 In no way G4863 shall I bring together G3588 the ones G4864 of their gathering G1473   G1537 for G129 blood, G3761 nor G3766.2 in any way G3403 shall I mention G3588   G3686 their names G1473   G1223 through G5491 my lips. G1473

“My weakness increased. In the midst of this they rushed in. No way gather together their assembly from out of blood, neither no way remember their name through my mouth.”

When David was at his weakest, his enemies rushed in against him. David calls out to Yahweh to disallow their assembly of blood to gather; meaning, don’t allow the ones who cause bloodshed to organize and attack. David says that he will not even remember their name or speak their names. David will not give them fame or credit for their intelligence gathering and military strategies. There is an assumption in various translations that the blood mentioned here is in regard to blood offerings, but that is not true; blood means blood, and whether the army defeats Israel as an offering to the god of this world is not really the point. The point is that this enemy strikes when David and his armies are at their weakest, so he is calling on Yahweh to not allow them to become an organized group against Israel. David will not speak of these people who enjoy killing Israelites.

This one verse explains what we need to know about our enemies. When we are weak they strike. They assemble for bloodshed. David won’t even speak of them. Therefore, if this is written on a monument for everyone to read, this would tell us how important it is to invoke Yahweh against our enemy.

Psalms 16:5 G2962 The lord G3310 is the portion G3588   G2817 of my inheritance G1473   G2532 and G3588   G4221 of my cup. G1473   G1473 You G1510.2.2 are G3588 the G600 one restoring G3588   G2817 my inheritance G1473   G1473 to me.

“Yahweh share my inheritance and my drinking cup. You are reestablishing my inheritance me.”

Defeating the enemy works out for David due to Yahweh being his portion or share of David’s own inheritance. David has an inheritance in Yahweh, and it is like a full cup. Yahweh is reestablishing or continuing to pour out more inheritance to David. What does this mean? Rewards. David will collect more and more rewards as he continues to do what Yahweh has called him to do. The same is true for us.

Psalms 16:6 G4979 The measuring lines G1968 fallen G1473 to me G1722 in G3588 the G2903 most excellent places . G2532 Yes, G1063 for G3588   G2817 my inheritance G1473   G2903 [2most excellent G1473 1is to me]. G1510.2.3

“Rushlet embrace me in mightiest. And for my inheritance my mightiest is.”

Schoinos is latin for “rushlet”, which is a rope made out of rushes with knots used by the Egyptians for surveying. David is saying that the survey of Israel falls on, or embraces him, as The Mightiest! “Mightiest” is a title, the word “places” is not in the text. One would call David The Mightiest or The Strongest, or The Most Excellent. The survey of Israel embraces The Most Excellent David. David is not only the Mightiest, Yahweh is the Mightiest and He is David’s inheritance.

Psalms 16:7 G2127 I will bless G3588 the G2962 lord, G3588 the G4907.3 one bringing understanding to G1473 me; G2089 but still G1161   G2532 also G2193 until G3571 night G3811 [2corrected G1473 3me G3588   G3510 1my kidneys]. G1473

“Praise Yahweh, my consistency even now. But as far as night time you educate my kidneys.”

Yahweh is consistent. His consistency brings us intelligence. By his consistency we are educated, we become prudent. Our kidneys are our emotional center. David asks to educate his emotions in the night hours. Yahweh speaks to him in the night. What is it to educate our emotional center? It is to show us our emotional baggage, our hurts, our fears, and to teach us how to overcome them. These are things that Yahweh shows us in the quiet of night, not in the noise of the day. This idea is something we all should embrace to overcome the emotional obstacles in our lives.

The next four verses are quoted by Peter on the Day of Pentecost.

Psalms 16:8 G4308 I foresaw G3588 the G2962 lord G1799 before G1473 me G1275 always; G3754 for G1537 [2on G1188 3my right G1473   G1510.2.3 1he is] G2443 that G3361 I should not G4531 be shaken.

προοράω
prooraō pro-or-ah'-o From G4253 and G3708; to behold in advance, that is, (active voice) to notice (another) previously, or (middle voice) to keep in (one’s own) view KJV Usage: foresee, see before.

“I see beforehand Yahweh before the face of me, through all time, because from out of on my right hand, is in order that not make to oscillate.”

Prooraō is made up of two words, 4253 “before”, and 3708 “to see”. It is only used once here in verse 8 and then repeated by Peter in Acts 2:25. This is interesting and tells us something about foresight. It is to see before time, in advance of a particular event, which in this case was about 1,080 years in advance of Jesus’ ministry. David sees Yahweh in front of him at his right hand so that David won’t be shaken. Now if we wanted to teach people that Yahweh fights for them in this culture we explain it as Yahweh being at our right hand. The right hand is a place of honor. Each one of us only has one right side and one right hand. Paul explains Christ is at the right of the Father.

Romans 8:34 G5100 Who G3588 is the one G2632 condemning? G5547 Christ G3588 is the one G599 having died, G3123 and more G1161   G2532 also G1453 being arisen, G3739 who G2532 also G1510.2.3 is G1722 at G1188 the right G3588 of God, G2316   G3739 who G2532 also G1793 intercedes G5228 for G1473 us.

Paul is making the point that the anointed one, Jesus, who died does not condemn us, but instead he died for us. In doing so he rose up and takes the place of importance on the right of the Father. Paul is also noting that Jesus intercedes for us. Paul further explains Jesus’ position.

Ephesians 1:20 G3739 which G1754 he operated G1722 in G3588 the G5547 Christ, G1453 having raised G1473 him G1537 from G3588 the G3498 dead, G2532 and G2523 seated him G1722 at G1188 his right hand G1473   G1722 in G3588 the G2032 heavenlies,
  21 G5231 above G3956 every G746 sovereignty G2532 and G1849 authority, G2532 and G1411 power G2532 and G2963 lordship, G2532 and G3956 every G3686 name G3687 named, G3756 not G3440 only G1722 in G3588   G165 this eon, G3778   G235 but G2532 also G1722 in G3588 the one G3195 about to be

Jesus is not only the anointed one who died and rose up, he is seated on the right of the Father in the heavenlies. Jesus rose up from the grave, passed paradise, and is seated in the heavens. Now Jesus’ position is above all the sovereignties, authorities and powers, lordships, as well as every name named in this age and into the next age. Who are all these beings in rulership positions? Certainly they are not stronger or more capable than Jesus Christ is.

Hebrews 8:1 G2774 But the total sum G1161   G1909 upon G3588 the things G3004 being spoken is, G5108 [2such G2192 1we have] G749 a chief priest, G3739 one who G2523 sat G1722 at G1188 the right G3588 of the G2362 throne G3588 of the G3172 greatness G1722 in G3588 the G3772 heavens,

The writer of Hebrews calls Jesus Christ our Chief Priest. As our Chief Priest, he makes intercession for us and stands in authority above all other rulers. David says that he foresaw the Messiah, Christ, the one who stands at David’s right to keep him from being shaken. But David also uses this idea of the devil at someone’s right as an invocation against his enemies.

Psalms 109:6 G2525 Place G1909 [2against G1473 3him G268 1 the sinner], G2532 and G1228 let the devil G2476 stand G1537 at G1188 his right hand! G1473

The devil is used to bringing judgment against the sinner in the courts of heaven.

Bringing David’s vision forward, David sees Yahweh at his right, and he keeps David from oscillating and spinning. Today, while Jesus is at the right of the Father, we are at his right, and he keeps us from oscillating and spinning. David’s vision is being revealed to the people on Pentecost, and in their own time, David foresaw the Messiah whom they killed, over one thousand years earlier.

Psalms 16:9 G1223 On account of G3778 this G2165 [2was glad G3588   G2588 1my heart], G1473   G2532 and G21 [2exulted G3588   G1100 1my tongue]; G1473   G2089 and still G1161   G2532 also G3588   G4561 my flesh G1473   G2681 shall encamp G1909 in G1680 hope.

“By means of this delight my heart and rejoice exceedingly my language, still but my body tabernacle upon expectation.”

David is delighted with this vision of the Messiah, he speaks this out, he tells others. Someone thought it important to make a monument to tell others of this vision. Peter repeats the vision on Pentecost to over three thousand people. David says that he is camping or tabernacling on this expectation. Imagine, David is camped on this expectation of Yahweh, what could possibly shake him? Could death shake David? Could the heirs of the fallen sons of God shake David?

Psalms 16:10 G3754 For G3756 you shall not abandon G1459   G3588   G5590 my soul G1473   G1519 in G86 Hades, G3761 nor G1325 shall you give G3588   G3741 your sacred one G1473   G1492 to see G1312 corruption.

“Because not leave behind my soul into Hades neither offer your beloved of God to know destruction.”

Yahweh will not leave David’s soul behind in Hades, he will free him from Hades when he frees the righteous dead in Abraham’s bay and takes them to paradise. The beloved of God will not know destruction. The Messiah’s soul was also not left in Hades nor did the Messiah’s soul see destruction.

Abraham’s bay was a compartment of Hades with a chasm separating the place of the unrighteous dead and the righteous dead. Jesus explained this to us as Luke records. The man dressed in purple linen is a Pharisee, wearing the typical rich person’s wardrobe.

Luke 16:19 G444 [3man G1161 1And G5100 2a certain] G1510.7.3 was G4145 rich, G2532 and G1737 dressed in G4209 purple G2532 and G1040 linen, G2165 being merry G2596 daily G2250   G2988 and glowing.
  20 G4434 [4poor man G1161 1And G5100 3a certain G1510.7.3 2there was], G3686 by name G* Lazarus, G3739 who G906 was laid G4314 at G3588   G4440 his gatehouse, G1473   G1669 one having sores,
  21 G2532 and G1937 desiring G5526 to be filled G575 from G3588 the G5589 crumbs G3588 of the ones G4098 falling G575 from G3588 the G5132 table G3588 of the G4145 rich man. G235 And G2532 also G3588 the G2965 dogs G2064 coming G621 licked G3588   G1668 his sores. G1473
  22 G1096 And it came to pass for G1161   G599 [3to die G3588 1the G4434 2poor man], G2532 and G667 for him to be carried G1473   G5259 by G3588 the G32 angels G1519 into G3588 the G2859 bosom G3588   G* of Abraham. G599 And [4died G1161   G2532 3also G3588 1the G4145 2rich man], G2532 and G2290 was buried.

2859 LSJ Gloss:κόλπος the bosom
Dodson:κόλπος bosom, bosom of a garment, a bay, gulf
(a) sing. and plur: bosom; (sinus) the overhanging fold of the garment used as a pocket, (b) a bay, gulf.
Thayer:
1) the front of the body between the arms
2) the bosom of a garment, i.e. the hollow formed by the upper forepart of a rather loose garment bound by a girdle or sash, used for keeping and carrying things (the fold or pocket)
3) a bay of the sea

κόλπος
kolpos kol'-pos Apparently a primary word; the bosom; by analogy a bay
KJV Usage: bosom, creek.

The word κόλπος (kolpos) translates as “bay”, “gulf”, “basin”, “loch”, or “sinus” or “lap”.

Vines tells us that bosom figuratively, “refers to the chest, a place of honor and blessedness”, which is this compartment of Hades. How do we know if we are speaking of a literal bosom or a literal bay or creek? The context tells us that there is a chasm and water. We are then literally speaking of two places separated by a body of water. On one side Lazarus can go down to the water, and on the other side the rich man cannot get to the water. This idea of bay or creek is not figurative. The idea of being on the higher ground on one side of a river while others are on the higher ground on the other side of a river is literal. The figurative aspect is that the place where Lazarus and Abraham are is a place of blessing as compared to the rich man.

Luke 16:23 G2532 And G1722 in G3588   G86 Hades G1869 having lifted up G3588   G3788 his eyes G1473   G5224 being G1722 in G931 torment, G3708 he sees G3588   G* Abraham G575 from G3113 far off, G2532 and G* Lazarus G1722 in G3588   G2859 his enfolded arms. G1473
  24 G2532 And G1473 he G5455 speaking out loud, G2036 said, G3962 O father G* Abraham, G1653 show mercy G1473 on me, G2532 and G3992 send forth G* Lazarus G2443 that G911 he should dip G3588 the G206 tip G3588   G1147 of his finger G1473   G5204 in water, G2532 and G2711 should cool G3588   G1100 my tongue; G1473   G3754 for G3600 I grieve G1722 in G3588   G5395 this flame. G3778

There is water that Lazarus can get to but the rich man cannot. If the rich man could get to the water then he would not ask for Lazarus to do this for him. Now we can understand that the people who are on Abraham’s side of the chasm are not tortured by heat or flames. They have water, can communicate, can travel on their side, and do not seem to be in hardship. The rich man is in agony, he cannot touch the water, he is hot and receives no mercy from those on the other side of the chasm.

Luke 16:25 G2036 [3said G1161 1And G* 2Abraham], G5043 Son, G3403 remember G3754 that G618 you accepted G1473   G3588 the G18 good things G1473 of yours G1722 in G3588   G2222 your life, G1473   G2532 and G* Lazarus G3668 in like manner G3588 the G2556 bad. G3568 But now G1161   G3592 thus G3870 he is comforted, G1473 but you G1161   G3600 grieve.
  26 G2532 And G1909 upon G3956 all G3778 these things, G3342 between G1473 us G2532 and G1473 you G5490 [2chasm G3173 1 is a great] G4741 firmly fixed; G3704 so that G3588 the ones G2309 wanting G1224 to pass over G1759.3 on this side G4314 to G1473 you G3361 are not G1410 able, G3366 nor G3588 the ones G1564 from there G4314 to G1473 us G1276 should pass through.

5490 LSJ Gloss:χάσμα a yawning hollow, chasm, gulf
Dodson:χάσμα a gap, gulf, chasm.
TBESG:χάσμα chasm
G:N-N
χάσμα, -τος, τό
(< χάσκω, to yawn), [in LXX: 2Ki.18:17 (פַּחַת)* ;]
a chasm, wide space: Luk.16:26.†
(AS)
Thayer:
1) a gaping opening, a chasm, a gulf

χάσμα
chasma khas'-mah From a form of an obsolete primary “chao” (to “gape” or “yawn”); a “chasm” or vacancy (impassable interval) KJV Usage: gulf.

There is a mega-chasm, or a mega-impassable interval, that is fixed firmly. No one can walk or cross between the two places. In this case, the pious Pharisees were not entering into eternal life, yet on the earth people were aspiring to be like them because of their riches. Jesus is explaining that the righteous are not entering into decay and destruction. We will see shortly the sons of Korah talk about those with riches ending up in Hades while the righteous are not there.

Now that we understand that there were two places in Hades, one for the righteous and one for the unrighteous, David says that the Messiah would not leave his soul behind in Hades. Where would David’s soul go? Jesus then took those righteous souls out of Hades when he took back the keys to death and Hades. Jesus reopened paradise. The cherubim with flaming swords were keeping all beings out since the time of the adam.

David now knows the way of life.

Psalms 16:11 G1107 You made known G1473 to me G3598 the ways G2222 of life. G4137 You shall fill G1473 me G2167 of gladness G3326 with G3588   G4383 your face. G1473   G5059.5 Delightfulness G1722 is at G3588   G1188 your right G1473   G1519 unto G5056 the end.

“You declare road life, you make full joy in the midst of your countenance. Pleasantness in your right hand into  the fulfillment.”

David rejoices that Yahweh has made known the way of life. David’s soul would not be left in Hades, he would be brought to paradise when the Messiah, coming from his loins, would rise. The amazing thing about David’s vision is that David realizes he will always be on Yahweh’s right hand into the fulfillment, or the end of the age.

Peter knew of these words. He explains this to people on Pentecost.

Acts 2:29 G435 Men, G80 brethren, G1832 it is allowed G2036 to speak G3326 with G3954 an open manner G4314 to G1473 you G4012 concerning G3588 the G3966 patriarch G* David, G3754 that G2532 both G5053 he came to an end G2532 and G2290 was entombed, G2532 and G3588   G3418 his tomb G1473   G1510.2.3 is G1722 among G1473 us G891 as far as G3588   G2250 this day. G3778

David’s tomb was still known to the general population.

Acts 2:30 G4396 A prophet G3767 then G5224 being, G2532 and G1492 knowing G3754 that G3727 [4an oath G3660 2swore G1473 3to him G3588   G2316 1God], G1537 (of G2590 the fruit G3588   G3751 of his loin, G1473   G3588 the one G2596 according to G4561 the flesh,) G450 to raise up G3588 the G5547 Christ, G2523 to sit G1909 upon G3588   G2362 his throne, G1473

The oath that God swore to David, and which Peter declares on Pentecost, was that from the fruit of David’s loins would rise up the Messiah to sit upon his throne. As we noticed, Christ is at the right of the Father.

Acts 2:31 G4275 looking out ahead G2980 he spoke G4012 concerning G3588 the G386 resurrection G3588 of the G5547 Christ, G3754 that G3756 [2was not left G2641   G3588   G5590 1his soul] G1473   G1519 in G86 Hades, G3761 nor G3588   G4561 his flesh G1473   G1492 saw G1312 corruption.

David foresaw the resurrection of the Messiah. He saw the rising up of the Christ over one thousand and eighty years ahead of time.

Acts 2:32 G3778 This G3588   G* Jesus G450 God raised up, G3588   G2316   G3739 of which G3956 all G1473 we G1510.2.4 are G3144 witnesses.

Peter says that Jesus was the guy. Jesus was the one that David saw. Jesus was the one that they all witnessed had risen. Remember all the incidents of Jesus appearing to people for forty days after his death?

Acts 2:33 G3588 By the G1188 right hand G3767 then G3588   G2316 of God G5312 having been raised up high, G3588 and the G5037   G1860 promise G3588 of the G39 holy G4151 spirit G2983 having received G3844 by G3588 the G3962 father, G1632 he poured out G3778 this G3739 which G3568 you now G1473   G991 see G2532 and G191 hear.

Peter now says that Jesus is at the right of the Father. Jesus told the disciples of the promise that the Holy Spirit would come after he left, and Peter is now declaring it on that day, they received the promise poured out. What was the evidence? They saw and heard the disciples speaking in unlearned languages.

Acts 2:34 G3756 [3did not G1063 1For G* 2David] G305 ascend G1519 into G3588 the G3772 heavens. G3004 For he says G1161   G1473 himself, G2036 The Lord said G3588   G2962   G3588 to G2962 my Lord, G1473   G2521 Sit down G1537 at G1188 my right, G1473
  35 G2193 until G302 whenever G5087 I should establish G3588   G2190 your enemies G1473   G5286 as a footstool G3588   G4228 of your feet. G1473

Jesus challenged the Pharisees and Sadducees regarding David’s words and now Peter is announcing the answer to all those listening in Jerusalem.

Acts 2:36 G806 With certainty G3767 then G1097 let [4know G3956 1all G3624 2 the house G* 3of Israel]! G3754 that G2532 [4both G2962 5Lord G2532 6and G5547 7Christ G1473 3him G3588   G2316 1God G4160 2made] -- G3778 this G3588   G* Jesus G3739 whom G1473 you G4717 crucified.

Peter now accuses all those listening of crucifying the Lord and Messiah that David spoke of. Now Peter had an opening to call for repentance. Three thousand were baptized and released from their sins. They would also receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Peter told them this promise was for them and the generations after them as well, no matter where they lived, this is for anyone who should call on Yahweh Elohim.

Let’s go back to the idea of Hades. David said that neither his soul, nor the Messiah’s soul, nor the beloved of God, would be left in Hades and see corruption. Up to this point David was actively killing the sons of the Nephilim, who banded together into one tribe called the Philistines. This was David’s assignment from Yahweh. He understood that the unrighteous sons of the Nephil were not righteous, but as we have seen, they used curses, demons, and different types of cunning to try and kill David and his men. David had victory over them because they utilized the power of the god of this world, a lesser god. When we read the words of David, we might think that David was being mean or vicious, but the destiny of all those who reject Yahweh is Hades, and not the side of Hades with water called Abraham’s bay.

Psalms 9:16 G1097 The lord is known G2962   G2917 [2judgments G4160 1by executing]; G1722 [4by G3588 5the G2041 6works G3588   G5495 7of his hands G1473   G4815 3is seized G3588 1the G268 2sinner]. G5603 AN ODE.
  17 G654 Let [3be turned G3588 1the G268 2sinners] G1519 to G3588   G86 Hades! G3956 even all G3588 the G1484 nations G3588   G1950 forgetting G3588   G2316 God.
  18 G3754 For G3756 [4not G1519 6at G5056 7 the end G1950 3shall 5be forgotten G3588 1the G4434 2poor]; G3588 the G5281 patience G3588 of the G3993 needy ones G3756 shall not G622 perish G1519 to G5056 the end.

This Psalm of David makes clear that Yahweh executes judgments. The sinner is seized by his own works, so David says to send them all to Hades. He says the poor and needy are not forgotten and will not perish to the fulfillment. Jesus told us the same thing. Poor Lazarus was not forgotten. However the rich man and his family would not believe Moses and the Prophets, they looked prosperous, but were sinners turned over to Hades.

Psalms 55:15 G2064 And let [2come G1161   G2288 1death] G1909 upon G1473 them, G2532 and G2597 let them go down G1519 into G86 Hades G2198 alive! G3754 For G4189 wickedness G1722 in G3588   G3940 their sojourn, G1473   G1722 is in G3319 the midst G1473 of them.

David calls for death and for the wicked to go down to Hades alive. Again, this sounds harsh until we recognize that David and Israel were dealing with a mixed nation of people who were spiritually influenced by their ancestors.

The sons of Korah knew and understood who these mixed beings were, calling them “earthborn” as opposed to “sons of men”. They point out two categories of beings: the heirs of the Nephil and the humans. Remember, there are two seeds, the seed of the serpent and the seed of the women. The sons of Korah explain that those with riches do all sorts of things on the earth that are ultimately meaningless because they end up in Hades.

Psalms 49:  0 G1519 To G3588 the G5056 director; G3588 [2to the G5207 3sons G* 4of Korah G5568 1a psalm].
  1 G191 Hear G3778 these things G3956 all G3588   G1484 nations! G1801 Give ear G3956 all G3588 the ones G2730 dwelling G3588 in the G3611 inhabitable world --
  2 G3739 both the G5037   G1093.1 earth-born, G2532 and G3588 the G5207 sons G3588   G444 of men G2009.1 together, G4145 rich G2532 and G3993 needy!

The word being translated as “earth-born”, γηγενείς,  in modern language means “indigenous” (gigeneís) which is similar to γίγαντες, “giants” (gígantes). The idea is that there were original natives of the heavens that bore earthborn heirs. The comparison is sons of men, or sons born of men, two different seeds. The sons of Korah are making a differentiation that no matter whether the ones dwelling in the inhabitable world are descended from the Nephil or men, or they are rich or needy, they may all end up in the same place. This was common knowledge in their time and it was not a superstition or a fairy tale. We should increase our understanding of the Bible in history as well as the future.

Psalms 49:14 G5613 [2as G4263 3sheep G1722 4in G86 5Hades G5087 1They placed them]; G2288 death G4165 tends G1473 them; G2532 and G2634 [3shall dominate G1473 4them G3588 1the G2117 2upright] G4404 in the morning; G2532 and G3588   G996 their help G1473   G3822 shall grow old G1722 in G3588   G86 Hades; G1537 [2from G3588   G1391 3their glory G1473   G1856 1they were banished].
  15 G4133 Except G3588   G2316 God G3084 shall ransom G3588   G5590 my soul G1473   G1537 from out of G5495 the hand G86 of Hades, G3752 whenever G2983 he should take G1473 me.

The sons of Korah say that both the earthborn giants and the sons of men all will go to Hades, unless men are righteous. They are like sheep, and whatever riches or status they have on the earth will be gone. But the Elohim will ransom the righteous. When are the righteous ransomed? There will be two ransoms. One ransoming is when Jesus took the righteous out of Abraham’s bay to paradise. The second ransoming is when Jesus calls from the clouds, as all righteous people await the the Messiah and enter the throne room in the heavens together.

Solomon talks about the earthborn ones, calling them those who rejoice over evil perverseness with crooked paths and curved tracks.

Proverbs 2:18 G5087 For she put G1063   G3844 [2near G3588   G2288 3death G3588   G3624 1her house], G1473   G2532 and G3844 [2 lead by G3588   G86 3Hades G3326 4with G3588 5the G1093.1 6earthborn G3588   G516.1 1her courses of action]. G1473

The bad counselors lead people into Hades with the earthborn. Solomon understood that the earthborn would end up in Hades and would try to lead others astray into Hades as well.

Proverbs 9:18 G3588 But he G1161   G3756 does not G1492 know G3754 that G1093.1 earth-born men G3844 [2by G1473 3her G3643.4 1 are destroyed], G2532 and G1909 [2upon G4070.4 3 the perch G86 4of Hades G4876 1he meets].

Solomon is speaking to the ones lacking intelligence and the foolish. Whatever the foolish are doing, they lack the understanding that the earthborn will end up in Hades and be destroyed. In other words, why follow those who are descended from the Nephil and are slated for destruction in Hades? Why intentionally follow the serpent’s seed? Isn’t this a great admonition for today?

If we understand this aspect of Hades, the fact that the righteous are not left to corruption and that once Jesus rose up he did not leave his righteous in Hades, our understanding of Psalm 16 grows. This is the perspective that David, Solomon, and the sons of Korah, were looking forward to, that they would not die and remain in Hades with the heirs of the Nephil and the unrighteous, even though there was a chasm of separation. David announced to the world that his soul would not be left in Hades and would not see corruption. Neither would the beloved of Yahweh. This is the path of life for anyone who calls on the name of the Lord. Yahweh told David this so that he would not be shaken or spin in circles. David camped on this hope. This is the path to life and the Lord is at our right hand into the fulfillment of the age. Peter then further explained this path to those who repented on the Day of Pentecost. This is the yellow brick road to eternal life. Jesus, the Messiah; in David’s foresight over 1,080 years before, in our hindsight 1,990 years after, the one who stands at our right side, our hope into the ages with fullness of joy.

Psalms 16:8-11

“I see beforehand Yahweh before the face of me, through all time, because from out of on my right hand, is in order that not make to oscillate. By means of this delight my heart and rejoice exceedingly my language still but and my body tabernacle upon expectation. Because not leave behind my soul into Hades neither offer your beloved of God to know destruction. You declare road life, you make full joy in the midst of your countenance. Pleasantness in your right hand into  the fulfillment.”
