The Millennial Reign; Demons, Satyrs, Sirens; the First Resurrection; Revelation 20

After the battle at Megiddo and the separating of the sheep and goats, we have a period of time where the Lord Jesus Christ will reign on the earth for one thousand years. The satan will be bound for that thousand year period and demons will have a region where they will be kept. There will be knowledge of the Lord Almighty throughout the earth and specific holy days to celebrate. Humans will still have freedom of will, but they will not war against each other and there will be no weapons. The animal kingdom will be restored to a peaceful and gentle state, but first things first. The satan will be chained in the Abyss and Babylon will be a wasteland for demonic beings.

Revelation 20:1 G2532 And G1492 I saw G32 an angel G2597 coming down G1537 from out of G3588 the G3772 heaven G2192 having G3588 the G2807 key G3588 of the G12 abyss, G2532 and G254 [2chain G3173 1a great] G1909 in G3588   G5495 his hand. G1473

12 LSJ Gloss:ἄβυσσος with no bottom, bottomless, unfathomed

ἄβυσσος
abussos ab'-us-sos From G1 (as a negative particle) and a variation of G1037; depthless, that is, (specifically), (infernal) “abyss” KJV Usage: deep, (bottomless) pit.

We know that demons asked Jesus not to send them to the abyss so it is a place that demons fear. While we saw that the heirs of the Nephilim went someplace far away, led by the people they had mistreated, this abyss is a different place. This is the place Gog the locust king came out of. This will be the residence of the satan for about one thousand years.

Revelation 20:2 G2532 And G2902 he seized G3588 the G1404 dragon, G3588 the G3789 [2serpent G3588   G744 1ancient], G3739 who G1510.2.3 is G1228 the devil, G2532 and G3588   G4567 Satan, G3588 the one G4105 misleading G3588 the G3611 [2inhabitable world G3650 1entire]. The Angel seized drakōn the archaios ophis, or he seized the dragon the huge serpent, the primeval snake, who is diabolos the slanderer, and satanas the accuser. The satan seduced the whole inhabitable world. The Angel chains the satan, yet after that time it will be necessary to loose him.

Revelation 20:3 G2532 And G906 he cast G1473 him G1519 into G3588 the G12 abyss, G2532 and G2808 locked, G2532 and G4972 set a seal G1883 upon G1473 him, G2443 that G3361 he should not mislead G4105   G2089 [3any more G3588 1the G1484 2nations] G891 until G5055 [4be fulfilled G3588 1the G5507 2thousand G2094 3years]. The people who did not worship the beast and did not worship his image will live and reign with Christ. The people who did not take the imprint of the double sword on their forehead or hand will live and reign with Christ.

The heirs of Jacob who had the testimony of Jesus or the word of God and whose lives were cut short along with the martyrs, and those who did not take the mark of the beast or worship the beast will live and reign with Christ for one thousand years. Those left behind of the dead, do not live until the thousand years are finished.

Revelation 20:5 G2532 And G3588 the G3062 rest G3588 of the G3498 dead G3756 did not G2198 live G891 until G5055 [4should be fulfilled G3588 1the G5507 2thousand G2094 3years]; G3778 this G3588 is the G386 [2resurrection G3588   G4413 1first].

anastasis an-as'-tas-is From G450; a standing up again, that is, (literally) a resurrection from death (individual, general or by implication (its author)), or (figuratively) a (moral) recovery (of spiritual truth)
KJV Usage: raised to life again, resurrection, rise from the dead, that should rise, rising again.

The rest of the dead did not live until the thousand years were fulfilled. They quite literally are left behind. Who will be involved in this first standing up from the dead? The martyrs and those who have the testimony of Jesus and the word of God, who have not worshipped the beast or his image and have not taken the double edged sword mark of the beast. This tells us that every Jew from the twelve tribes who stands up at this time has the witness of Jesus Christ. They will live for one thousand years. This is the first resurrection.

Revelation 20:6 G3107 Blessed G2532 and G39 holy G3588 is the one G2192 having G3313 part G1722 in G3588 the G386 [2resurrection G3588 G4413 1first]; G1909 over G3778 these G3588 the G1208 second G2288 death G3756 has no G2192   G1849 authority, G235 but G1510.8.6 they will be G2409 priests G3588   G2316 of God G2532 and G3588 of the G5547 Christ, G2532 and G936 shall reign G3326 with G1473 him G5507 a thousand G2094 years.

2) metaph. to exercise the highest influence, to control

βασιλεύω
basileuō bas-il-yoo'-o From G935; to rule (literally or figuratively) KJV Usage: king, reign.

The people who are part of the first resurrection are now alive and there will not be a second death for them. They will now be able to make sacrifices to the Father and the Son. This will be a large number of people, not a small tribe who will sacrifice on behalf of others. Everyone who partakes in the “first standing up” will make sacrifices. They will have rulership for one thousand years. Those who are dead and not resurrected until after the one thousand years will face the white throne judgment, and possibly the second death.

Zacharias tells us about the start of the Millennial Kingdom. There will be living water.

Zacharias 14:8 And in that day living water shall come forth out of Jerusalem; half of it toward the former sea, and half of it toward the latter sea: and so shall it be in summer and spring. 9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day there shall be one Lord, and his name one, 10 compassing all the earth, and the wilderness from Gabe unto Remmon south of Jerusalem. And Rama shall remain in its place. From the gate of Benjamin to the place of the first gate, to the gate of the corners, and to the tower of Anameel, as far as the king’s winepresses, 11 they shall dwell in the city; and there shall be no more any curse, and Jerusalem shall dwell securely.

This is the Day of the Lord, there will be living water that flows out of Jerusalem. There won’t be anymore curse and Jerusalem shall dwell securely. The Lord, Kurios, Yahweh, will be Lord over the entire earth.

Zacharias 14:12 And this shall be the overthrow with which the Lord will smite all the nations, as many as have fought against Jerusalem; their flesh shall consume away while they are standing upon their feet, and their eyes shall melt out of their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. 13 And there shall be in that day a great panic from the Lord upon them; and they shall lay hold every man of the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall be clasped with the hand of his neighbour. 14 Juda also shall fight in Jerusalem; and God shall gather the strength of all the nations round about, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance. 15 And this shall be the overthrow of the horses, and mules, and camels, and asses, and all the beasts that are in those camps, according to this overthrow.

During the battle at Megiddo people who fight against Jerusalem will be incinerated while standing on their feet. The people who are fighting for Jerusalem will gather the gold, silver, and other spoils from the wild beasts army. Then it will come to pass that whoever is left of the nations will come to Jerusalem to worship the King Lord Almighty, Jesus, and keep the feast of Tabernacles.

Zacharias 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall be left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem, shall even come up every year to worship the king, the Lord Almighty, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. 17 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever of all the families of the earth shall not come up to Jerusalem to worship the king, the Lord Almighty, even these shall be added to the others. 18 And if the family of Egypt shall not go up, nor come; then upon them shall be the overthrow with which the Lord shall smite all the nations, whichever of them shall not come up to keep the feast of tabernacles. 19 This shall be the sin of Egypt, and the sin of all the nations, whosoever shall not come up to keep the feast of tabernacles.

There will be some people left on the earth from nations outside of Jerusalem. Whatever nation does not come to worship the King, Kurios Pantokratōr, Yahweh Shaddai, they will not have rain, they will be struck down or overthrown. This tells us that the nations outside of Jerusalem will have freedom of will and will be disciplined for not worshipping during the feast of tabernacles. They will receive consequences for their actions. We can wonder why people would not worship King Jesus. As we have freedom to decided whether to worship Jesus today, the people on earth will have the freedom to decide as well. The one earthly requirement we see is worshipping during the feast of tabernacles.

If we remember our studies regarding holy days and the solar calendar, we will remember that the holy days were to be observed on a solar calendar cycle because the heavenly angels worship on those days. Men and angels were to worship on the same days. The angel warned Moses, as he told us in Jubilees, that the lunar calendar would cause man to observe the wrong days. Tabernacles is not simply about man being led out of Egypt it is also about the heavenly sons of God worshipping on those days as well. We have missed this opportunity to worship with the heavenly beings because of the distortion of the lunar calendar. If we also remember, the Essenes kept the solar calendar and knew when all the holy days were to be observed which caused a lot of contentions with the Pharisees. This is why we see the disciples celebrating passover a day ahead of the Pharisees and the group called the Quartodecimans emerge after Jesus’ death. Therefore the idea that people should be observing this particular holy day is not only about man, but about the sons of God and the Heavenly Father.

Zacharias 14:20 In that day there shall be upon the bridle of every horse Holiness to the Lord Almighty; and the caldrons in the house of the Lord shall be as bowls before the altar. 21 And every pot in Jerusalem and in Juda shall be holy to the Lord Almighty: and all that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and shall seethe meat in them: and in that day there shall be no more the Chananite in the house of the Lord Almighty. http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Zacharias/index.htm

The inscription on the horses bridles or the sides of the transportation and the sides of the kettles and bowls will say “Holy to the Lord Almighty”. There won’t be any political correctness or oppression of worship to King Jesus. There will not be any competing religions. People will either worship Him or not. People will be allowed to say his name, and to openly and freely praise Him. To us this sounds wonderful, but for those who may be born into this Millennial Kingdom and who do not know anything different, it will be a choice they will make from a place of paradise that they themselves did not have to fight for. As with the first man, the adam, warning someone as to consequences for their own actions is different than living through the consequences of someone else actions.

Isaiah tells us people will want to go up to Zion to learn.

Isaiah 2:1 The word which came to Esaias the son of Amos concerning Judea, and concerning Jerusalem.
2 For in the last days the mountain of the Lord shall be glorious, and the house of God shall be on the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall come to it. 3 And many nations shall go and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will tell us his way, and we will walk in it: for out of Sion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord out of Jerusalem.

People from the nations will want to go up to the holy mountains and learn the ways of the Lord. We can see a picture emerging where some people will want to learn the ways of Yahweh, while some people may harden their hearts to worshipping during tabernacles.

Isaiah 2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plow-shares, and their spears into sickles: and nation shall not take up sword against nation, neither shall they learn to war any more.
5 And now, O house of Jacob, come, and let us walk in the light of the Lord. http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Esaias/index.htm

The Lord will judge and convict the nations, but there will be no more war for one thousand years. No one will fight against another nation, and there will not be any weapons. There also will not be people learning war. No military. Do you see the picture of people living carefree, not in fear of wars or enemies? That will be what takes place in this Millennial Kingdom.

Jesus read from this scroll as Luke tells us. This Millennial Kingdom is the time of restoration and comfort for all that have mourned for Zion. Then they will be called generations of righteousness.

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me; he has sent me to preach glad tidings to the poor, to heal the broken in heart, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind; 2 to declare the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of recompence; to comfort all that mourn; 3 that there should be given to them that mourn in Sion glory instead of ashes, the oil of joy to the mourners, the garment of glory for the spirit of heaviness: and they shall be called generations of righteousness, the planting of the Lord for glory.

Isaiah 61:3 G1325 to give G3588 to the ones G3996 mourning for G* Zion G1391 glory G473 instead of G4700 ashes; G217.6 an anointing G2167 of gladness G3588 to them that G3996 mourn; G2596 according to G4749 an apparel G1391 of glory G473 instead of G4151 a spirit G185.1 of indifference. G2532 And G2564 they shall be called G1074 generations G1343 of righteousness, G5451.1 a thing planted G2962 of the lord G1519 for G1391 glory.

1343 LSJ Gloss:δικαιοσύνη righteousness, justice
Dodson:δικαιοσύνη justice, justness, righteousness (usually if not always in a Jewish atmosphere), justice, justness, righteousness, righteousness of which God is the source or author, but practically: a divine righteousness.
Thayer:
1) in a broad sense: state of him who is as he ought to be, righteousness, the condition acceptable to God
1a) the doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of God
1b) integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking feeling, and acting
2) in a narrower sense, justice or the virtue which gives each his due

δικαιοσύνη
dikaiosunē dik-ah-yos-oo'-nay From G1342; equity (of character or act); specifically (Christian) justification KJV Usage: righteousness.

The people who have mourned for Zion will have new garments of glory and they will be called a generation or an age of righteousness and justice. Then they will rebuild the old waste places.

Isaiah 61:4 And they shall build the old waste places, they shall raise up those that were before made desolate, and shall renew the desert cities, even those that had been desolate for many generations. 5 And strangers shall come and feed thy flocks, and aliens shall be thy ploughmen and vine-dressers. 6 But ye shall be called priests of the Lord, the ministers of God: ye shall eat the strength of nations, and shall be admired because of their wealth. 7 Thus shall they inherit the land a second time, and everlasting joy shall be upon their head. 8 For I am the Lord who love righteousness, and hate robberies of injustice; and I will give their labour to the just, and will make an everlasting covenant with them

We see people who have longed for and mourned for Zion during this time becoming priests, just like the people who had the testimony of Jesus whose lives were cut short, or martyred, and like those who did not take the double sword mark of the wild beast.

As we looked at a few weeks ago, Babylon, the region, will become a desert wasteland during the Millennial Kingdom, where demons and wild animals will reside. Babylon is not a desert wasteland now, so we know that this has not happened yet. The area of wasteland will be roughly from Edom to Babylon, and north to Nineveh.

Isaiah 13:19 And Babylon, which is called glorious by the king of the Chaldeans, shall be as when God overthrew Sodoma, and Gomorrha. 20 It shall never be inhabited, neither shall any enter into it for many generations: neither shall the Arabians pass through it; nor shall shepherds at all rest in it. 21 But wild beasts shall rest there; and the houses shall be filled with howling; and monsters shall rest there, and devils shall dance there, 22 and satyrs shall dwell there; and hedgehogs shall make their nests in their houses. It will come soon, and will not tarry. http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Esaias/index.htm

Isaiah 13:21 G2532 And G373 [2shall rest G1563 3there G2342 1wild beasts], G2532 and G1705 they shall fill up G3588 the G3614 houses G2279 with a sound; G2532 and G373 [2shall rest G1563 3there G4577.1 1sirens], G2532 and G1140 demons G1563 will dance G3738 there.
  22 G2532 And G3685.1 satyrs G1563 shall dwell there, G2730   G2532 and G3556.1 [2shall build a nest G2191.1 1hedgehogs] G1722 in G3588   G3624 their houses. G1473

Wild beasts will howl and their noise will be very loud. Sirens are seducing spirits or winged creatures that lure sailors by their singing so that the sailors crash their ships on rocks. Demons will dance in a line; line dancing demons. Satyrs are drunk woodland gods, sometimes depicted with animal ears, tails, or horns. Hedgehogs are also called in Aramaic versions onocentaurs, while Hebrew generally translates hedgehogs as dragons. Other translations call hedgehogs owls or even jackals. The etymology of the word is a combination of hateful and viper. These are all evil physical and spiritual creatures that will live in this desert where we know Babylon is today. No one will live in this area or travel through it in the age, eon. The Arabians, and shepherds will not go there either. Just like Sodom and Gomorrah was eradicated, Babylon will also be turned upside down, katastrephō, except wild animals and demonic spirits will live there.

Isaiah also tells us that Edom is going to end up as burning pitch and sulphur. If we look at a map we will understand that the region from Babylon to Edom will be a place were weird animals and demons will live. As we can see in the Millennial Kingdom, demons are confined in this region, they do not have free reign over the earth.

Isaiah 34:8 For it is the day of judgment of the Lord, and the year of the recompence of Sion in judgment. 9 And her valleys shall be turned into pitch, and her land into sulphur; and her land shall be as pitch burning night and day; 10 and it shall never be quenched, and her smoke shall go up: it shall be made desolate throughout her generations, 11 and for a long time birds and hedgehogs, and ibises and ravens shall dwell in it: and the measuring line of desolation shall be cast over it, and satyrs shall dwell in it.

Here different birds live alongside the hedghogs/dragons and satyrs. No human rulers will live there because they have all been destroyed. The cities that were there will decay and woods and thorns will take over the buildings.

Isaiah 34:12 Her princes shall be no more; for her kings and her great men shall be destroyed. 13 And thorns shall spring up in their cities, and in her strong holds: and they shall be habitations of monsters [sirens], and a court of ostriches. 14 And devils shall meet with satyrs, and they shall cry one to the other: there shall satyrs rest, having found for themselves a place of rest. 15 There has the hedgehog made its nest, and the earth has safely preserved its young: there have the deer met, and seen one another’s faces. 16 They passed by in full number, and not one of them perished: they sought not one another; for the Lord commanded them, and his Spirit gathered them. 17 And he shall cast lots for them, and his hand has portioned out their pasture, saying, Ye shall inherit the land for ever: they shall rest on it through all generations.http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Esaias/index.htm

A Northern Aramaic version translates verse 14 a little more clearly.

Isaiah 34:14 And in her the spirits shall meet each other, and a demon shall call on his companion; there the phantom (Lilitha) shall descend and find herself a resting place. (Translated from the Ancient Aramaic by Victor N. Alexander, copyright 2012, p 91,92)

This area will also become the property of sirens and ostriches. Demons and satyrs will yell to each other and rest here. Hedgehogs/dragons will nest there too.

The earth saved the children with safety. The rulers are gone, the cities are destroyed, but the children who once lived there were saved and secure. The hinds or deer will herd together, and altogether they will not fight among themselves because the Lord commanded them and brought them together. The Lord will overthrow, epiballō, a portion of the land and distribute it as pasture so the hinds and deer will rest there for generations. Isaiah says the “region of Babylon” therefore we know where this region is.

Isaiah 14:21 Prepare thy children to be slain for the sins of their father; that they arise not, and inherit the earth, nor fill the earth with wars. 22 And I will rise up against them, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will destroy their name, and remnant, and seed: thus saith the Lord. 23 And I will make the region of Babylon desert, so that hedgehogs shall dwell there, and it shall come to nothing: and I will make it a pit of clay for destruction.http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Esaias/index.htm

Zephaniah adds the dimension north to Ninevah to give us three points on a map to recognize this desert region.

Zephaniah 2:13 And he shall stretch forth his hand against the north and destroy the Assyrian, and make Nineve a dry wilderness, even as a desert. 14 And flocks, and all the wild beasts of the land, and chameleons shall feed in the midst thereof: and hedgehogs shall lodge in the ceilings thereof; and wild beasts shall cry in the breaches thereof, and ravens in her porches, whereas her loftiness was as as cedar. http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Sophonias/index.htm

Now we can picture what the Lord is saying. The regions east of Israel will be a desert wasteland for demons and wild animals. Demons are not extinguished or removed from the earth yet. They are confined to certain places between Babylon, Edom, and north toward Nineveh. This is the way the Millennial Kingdom will be. The children of this area were saved, the Lord is a just King. The gentle deer and hinds that were in that area will come together in one big herd and the Lord will overthrow the area and divide it as pasture land for them, the Lord is a compassionate King. While it seems odd the wild beasts and demons will still have a place on earth there is a time and a place for their judgment. On the earth the other animals will eat together and not attack each other or humans. The proper order of the animal kingdom will be restored on earth.

Isaiah 11:6 And the wolf shall feed with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the young calf and bull and lion shall feed together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 And the ox and bear shall feed together; and their young shall be together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 And an infant shall put his hand on the holes of asps, and on the nest of young asps. 9 And they shall not hurt, nor shall they at all be able to destroy any one on my holy mountain: for the whole world is filled with the knowledge of the Lord, as much water covers the seas. 10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall arise to rule over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust, and his rest shall be glorious http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Esaias/index.htm

Meanwhile the desert will now have water. There will be healing, and there will be joy. There will be a holy way, a highway, and nothing unclean will pass by.

Isaiah 35:1 Be glad, thou thirsty desert: let the wilderness exult, and flower as the lily. 2 And the desert places of Jordan shall blossom and rejoice; the glory of Libanus has been given to it, and the honour of Carmel; and my people shall see the glory of the Lord, and the majesty of God.
3 Be strong, ye relaxed hands and palsied knees. 4 Comfort one another, ye fainthearted; be strong, fear not; behold, our God renders judgment, and he will render it; he will come and save us. 5 Then shall the eyes of the blind be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall hear. 6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the stammerers shall speak plainly; for water has burst forth in the desert, and a channel of water in a thirsty land. 7 And the dry land shall become pools, and a fountain of water shall be poured into the thirsty land; there shall there be a joy of birds, ready habitations and marshes. 8 There shall be there a pure way, and it shall be called a holy way; and there shall not pass by there any unclean person, neither shall there be there an unclean way; but the dispersed shall walk on it, and they shall not go astray. 9 And there shall be no lion there, neither shall any evil beast go up upon it, nor at all be found there; but the redeemed and gathered on the Lord’s behalf, shall walk in it, 10 and shall return, and come to Sion with joy, and everlasting joy shall be over their head; for on their head shall be praise and exultation, and joy shall take possession of them: sorrow and pain, and groaning have fled away. http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Esaias/index.htm

The redeemed will walk on this holy way and return to Zion and they will be consumed with joy. There will be one language for this generation during the Millennial Kingdom. Everyone will serve together.

Zephaniah 3:8 Therefore wait upon me, saith the Lord, until the day when I rise up for a witness: because my judgment shall be on the gatherings of the nations, to draw to me kings, to pour out upon them all my fierce anger: for the whole earth shall be consumed with the fire of my jealousy.
9 For then will I turn to the peoples a tongue for her generation, that all may call on the name of the Lord, to serve him under one yoke. 10 From the boundaries of the rivers of Ethiopia will I receive my dispersed ones; they shall offer sacrifices to me. 11 In that day thou shalt not be ashamed of all thy practices, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then will I take away from thee thy disdainful pride, and thou shalt no more magnify thyself upon my holy mountain. 12 And I will leave in thee a meek and lowly people; http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Sophonias/index.htm

Let’s close with this section in 2 Ezra and consider his words.

2 Esdras 2:34-48 (KJV Apocrypha)
34  And therefore I say unto you, O ye heathen, that hear and understand, look for your Shepherd, he shall give you everlasting rest; for he is nigh at hand, that shall come in the end of the world.
35  Be ready to the reward of the kingdom, for the everlasting light shall shine upon you for evermore.
36  Flee the shadow of this world, receive the joyfulness of your glory: I testify my Saviour openly.
37  O receive the gift that is given you, and be glad, giving thanks unto him that hath led you to the heavenly kingdom.
38  Arise up and stand, behold the number of those that be sealed in the feast of the Lord;
39  Which are departed from the shadow of the world, and have received glorious garments of the Lord.
40  Take thy number, O Sion, and shut up those of thine that are clothed in white, which have fulfilled the law of the Lord.
41  The number of thy children, whom thou longedst for, is fulfilled: beseech the power of the Lord, that thy people, which have been called from the beginning, may be hallowed.
42  I Esdras saw upon the mount Sion a great people, whom I could not number, and they all praised the Lord with songs.
43  And in the midst of them there was a young man of a high stature, taller than all the rest, and upon every one of their heads he set crowns, and was more exalted; which I marvelled at greatly.
44  So I asked the angel, and said, Sir, what are these?
45  He answered and said unto me, These be they that have put off the mortal clothing, and put on the immortal, and have confessed the name of God: now are they crowned, and receive palms.
46  Then said I unto the angel, What young person is it that crowneth them, and giveth them palms in their hands?
47  So he answered and said unto me, It is the Son of God, whom they have confessed in the world. Then began I greatly to commend them that stood so stiffly for the name of the Lord.
48  Then the angel said unto me, Go thy way, and tell my people what manner of things, and how great wonders of the Lord thy God, thou hast seen.
