Better than Marvel Super Heroes; The Army; Burning Sulphur; Revelation 19

Being dismissive is a very easy thing to do. Anyone can dismiss the things they don’t like or don’t want to hear. People who don’t study the Bible dismiss the Bible in favor of things that other people say. Some would say that God of the Bible is mean and angry, so they create their own more benign god to satisfy their own sensibilities of who they think God should be. Lack of understanding will cause a lot of misunderstanding. When we read the prophets, we may come away with a very intense and scary view of the Creator. It seems he is always mad. In the most simple and basic terms, this is the time we can either recognize Him as Lord or reject Him as Lord. We have been blinded by the ruler of the age as to the system and plans of heavenly beings and the rules regarding humans on earth. If we understand the words of the prophets in proper context and time, we find a very different picture emerging.

The ruler of this age is the one who punishes and judges, he accuses us before the throne of the Most High day and night. We live in a time period of grace where the judgment of the Most High is in abeyance, but not the judgement of the accuser. There are children of the Living God on the earth and there are children of wrath living on the earth side by side. At the end of this age, the children of the Living God are harpazo’d, seized or snatched to heaven. (Harvested out from among the weeds.) The dead in Christ rise first and those who are alive on earth at that time will be gathered with them to meet the Lord in the air. If one dismisses the event of the harpazo, one will not understand who is left on the earth. Once the sons and daughters of the Most High are taken off the earth, the time of tribulations starts. This is when we see the anger of the Lord God upon people living on the earth. At the end of this seven year period, the Day of the Lord begins, but he doesn’t come alone. The Lord Jesus comes with an army of followers to finally eradicate the satan and his followers from this earth. Once that is done, a new kingdom will begin, a one thousand year reign of Christ. The children of the Living God see this as a wonderful day, but it may be that the children of wrath will see this as a terrible day, because for them it will be.

By this point in the Book of Revelation many peoples’ eyes glaze over. There is so much information to process that we make some mistakes regarding the timing of events. After the Millennial reign the satan is loosed for a short time, and then we see the battle of Gog and Magog. We will look at that battle in a few weeks. Just keep in mind that the Millennial Reign is not the end of all wars on the earth. There is one last battle. The battle of Gog and Magog in Ezekiel 38 & 39 is not the Day of the Lord. These are two different wars. Therefore, when studying the Old Covenant, keep this perspective and this battle in it’s proper linear timeline.

During the tribulation the Lord Jesus will come to earth with an army of His followers. They will have super-abilities, they will not be limited by physical bodies as they are today. They will come to earth with the Lord and follow his commands. On that day, the Day of the Lord, the armies will fight the nations, but the Jews who have been left on the earth will not be harmed. Instead of dismissing Jesus as Lord and Christ it might just be time to learn more about him. On the Day of the Lord he will judge in righteousness, and he will wage war.

Revelation 19:11  And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

He wears a wrap around garment dyed or baptized in atoning blood. This is the proof of who he is. The satan cannot contend against Jesus’ blood offering. Jesus gave his blood for His people, the satan did not foresee that sinless blood would atone for sin. Jesus’ blood is a once for all offering, better than bulls and goats. After Jesus took back the keys to death and hades and ascended, all that the satan could do was start a disinformation campaign. Jesus’ name is called the logos of God. Now the armies follow Him.

Revelation 19:14  And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

καθαρός
katharos kath-ar-os' Of uncertain affinity; clean (literally or figuratively) KJV Usage: clean, clear, pure.

There are people who are soldiers following Jesus. They are wearing fine white linen and they are pure or clean. Picture what is happening here, Jesus is wearing a blood dyed garment, and his followers are wearing bright white, unstained, pure garments. Jesus is showing everyone in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, that his blood has atoned for the sins of the people following him. This is a bold statement. He is proving that he did not die in vain. He is showing those who rejected him that he truly did make his followers as white as snow. Remember that he is faithful, trustworthy and true, genuine, and real. For all those who have not believed, they see not only what his sacrifice did for his followers, but what was available to the entire world. Jesus wears red to the Day of the Lord and his followers wear white, but Isaiah says our sins were scarlet. There will be a changing of all of our clothing.

Isaiah 1:18 (AMP)
18  Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool.

Joel has a prophecy regarding this army of the Lord. These people will be better than Marvel Super Heroes. Joel tells the people of his time to tell many future generations of this prophecy because it is regarding the Day of the Lord. Unfortunately we have not repeated all of Joel’s prophecy to future generations.

2 Hear these words, ye elders, and hearken all ye that inhabit the land. Have such things happen in your days, or in the days of your fathers? 3 Tell your children concerning them, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation….
…14 Sanctify a fast, proclaim a solemn service, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of your God, and cry earnestly to the Lord,
15 Alas, Alas, Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is nigh, and it will come as trouble upon trouble.

The Day of the Lord will come as trouble upon trouble. Here is the announcement.

Joel 2:1 Sound the trumpet in Sion, make a proclamation in my holy mountain, and let all the inhabitants of the land be confounded: for the day of the Lord is near; 2 for a day of darkness and gloominess is near, a day of cloud and mist: a numerous and strong people shall be spread upon the mountains as the morning; there has not been from the beginning one like it, and after it there shall not be again even to the years of many generations.

Joel 2:1 G4537 Trump G1722 with G4536 trumpet G1722 in G* Zion! G2784 Proclaim G1722 in G3735 [2mountain G39 1my holy]! G1473   G2532 and G4797 confound G3956 all G3588 the ones G2730 dwelling G3588 in the G1093 land! G3754 for G3918 [4is at hand G3588 1the G2250 2day G2962 3 of the lord] -- G3754 for G1451 it is near.
  2 G2250 A day G4655 of darkness G2532 and G1105 dimness, G2250 a day G3507 of cloud G2532 and G3658.1 fog, G5613 as G3722 the dawn, G5502.4 there shall be poured G1909 upon G3588 the G3735 mountains G2992 [4people G4183 1a vast G2532 2and G2478 3strong], G3664 likened G1473 to it G3756 has not G1096 happened G575 from G3588 the G165 eon, G2532 and G3326 after G1473 it G3756 there shall not G4369 be added G2193 unto G2094 years, G1519 for G1074 generations G1074 of generations.

Cloud and fog will be on the earth on the Day of the Lord. Jesus’ armies, his followers, will be upon the mountains. This has never happened before and it will never happen again.

Joel 2:3 Before them is a consuming fire, and behind them is a flame kindled: the land before them is as a paradise of delight, and behind them a desolate plain: and there shall none of them escape.

Joel 2:3 G3588 The things G1715 before G1473 him G4442 [2fire G355 1a consuming]; G2532 and G3694 behind G1473 him G381 [2being lighted G5395 1a flame]. G5613 As G3857 a paradise G5172 of delicacy G3588 is the G1093 earth G4253 before G4383 his face, G1473   G2532 and G3588 the things G3694 behind G1473 him G3977.1 a plain G854 of extinction; G2532 and G391.2 ones escaping G3756 will not G1510.8.3 be G1473 to him.

In front of the strong people on the mountains there is a destroying fire like lightning and behind them is a blaze. The paradise of luxury is in front of them and a plain of obliteration is behind them. This means that as they move forward, what was on the earth, it’s cities, forests, parks, and the like, all disappear and become desolate. Isaiah tells us this:

Isaiah 34:6 http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Esaias/index.htm  The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is glutted with fat, with the blood of goats and lambs, and with the fat of goats and rams: for the Lord has a sacrifice in Bosor, and a great slaughter in Idumea. 7 And the mighty ones shall fall with them, and the rams and the bulls; and the land shall be soaked with blood, and shall be filled with their fat. 8 For it is the day of judgment of the Lord, and the year of the recompence of Sion in judgment. 9 And her valleys shall be turned into pitch, and her land into sulphur; and her land shall be as pitch burning night and day;

Joel sees the people on horses as if they are hunting.

Joel 2:4 Their appearance is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they pursue. 5 As the sound of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, and as the sound of a flame of fire devouring stubble, and as a numerous and strong people setting themselves in array for battle.

 Joel 2:4 G5613 As G3706 a sight G2462 of horses G3588 so the G3799 appearance G1473 of them; G2532 and G5613 as G2460 horsemen G3779 so G2614 they shall pursue.
  5 G5613 As G5456 the sound G716 of chariots G1909 upon G3588 the G2884.2 tops G3588 of the G3735 mountains G1814 they shall leap, G2532 even G5613 as G5456 the sound G5395 of a flame G4442 of fire G2719 devouring G2562 stubble, G2532 and G5613 as G2992 [4people G4183 1a vast G2532 2and G2478 3strong] G3904.4 being deployed G1519 for G4171 battle.

The sound these people make is like chariots riding or like fire burning stubble. It snaps and crackles as it moves. Joel says there are many strong people deployed for war.

Joel 2:6 Before them shall the people be crushed: every face shall be as the blackness of a caldron. 7 As warriors shall they run, and as men of war shall they mount on the walls; and each shall move in his right path, and they shall not turn aside from their tracks:

Joel 2: 6 G575 From G4383 in front G1473 of him G4937 [2shall be destroyed G2992 1 the people]; G3956 every G4383 face G5613 as G4343.2 a burnt G5559.4 earthen pot.
  7 G5613 As G3163.2 warriors, G5143 they shall run; G2532 and G5613 as G435 men G4170.3 of war, G305 they shall ascend G1909 upon G3588 the G5038 walls; G2532 and G1538 each G1722 in G3588   G3598 his way G1473   G4198 shall go, G2532 and G3766.2 no way G1578 shall they turn aside from G3588   G5147 their roads. G1473

The army crushes the people of earth, their faces look burnt. The army can run. They can climb walls. The army will follow a straight path. If there is something in the way these warriors will simply climb over or jump over it. Nothing will keep them from going in a straight direction together. They are all running in one long line.

Joel 2:8 and not one shall stand aloof from his brother: they shall go on weighed down with their arms, and they fall upon their weapons, yet shall they in no wise be destroyed.

Joel 2:8 G2532 And G1538 each G575 [2from G3588   G80 3his brother G1473   G3756 1shall not be at a distance]; G566   G2599 [2being burdened G1722 3with G3588   G3696 4their shields G1473   G4198 1they shall go], G2532 and G1722 with G3588   G956 arrows G4098 they shall fall, G2532 and G3766.2 no way G4931 shall they be ended.

This military will not be spread out, they will be standing and running close to one another. They will carry heavy armament, offensive weapons and missiles or jacio, projectiles. If these people fall down they won’t die. Imagine, the weapons that the army of Jesus carries can’t hurt them if they make a mistake. In other words, the only ones who are hurt by these weapons are the people of earth. There is no way for the followers of Jesus to die. The earthlings can’t kill them and Jesus’ own weapons can’t kill them. That is actually better than Marvel’s super heroes. But there’s more.

Joel 2:9 They shall seize upon the city, and run upon the walls, and go up upon the houses, and enter in through the windows as thieves.

Joel 2:9 G3588 [2the G4172 3city G1949 1They shall take hold of], G2532 and G1909 upon G3588 the G5038 walls G5143 they shall run; G1909 unto G3588 the G3614 houses G305 they shall ascend, G2532 and G1223 through G3588 the G2376 windows G1525 they shall enter G5613 as G2812 thieves.

These people in Jesus’ army can run on walls, not just the tops of the walls, the sides of the walls. They will scale the city walls and enter into houses through the windows like thieves. They will be a surprise to the occupants of the house.

Joel 2:10 Before them the earth shall be confounded, and the sky shall be shaken: the sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their light. 11 And the Lord shall utter his voice before his host: for his camp is very great: for the execution of his words is mighty: for the day of the Lord is great, very glorious, and who shall be able to resist it?

Joel 2:10 G4253 Before G4383 his face G4797 [3shall be confounded G3588 1the G1093 2earth], G2532 and G4579 [3shall be shaken G3588 1the G3772 2heaven]; G3588 the G2246 sun G2532 and G3588 the G4582 moon G4951.5 shall darken, G2532 and G3588 the G798 stars G1416 shall let down G5338 their brightness. G1473
  11 G2532 And G2962 the lord G1325 shall give forth G5456 his voice G1473   G4253 from G4383 in front G1411 of his force; G1473   G3754 for G4183 [4great G1510.2.3 2is G4970 3exceedingly G3588   G3925 1his camp]; G1473   G3754 for G2478 [2are strong G2041 3works G3056 1his words]; G1473   G1360 for G3173 great G3588 is the G2250 day G2962 of the lord, G2016 [2apparent G4970 1exceedingly], G2532 and G5100 who G1510.8.3 will be G2425 fit G1473 for it?

The heavens, earth, moon and stars will be all mixed up. The Lord speaks from in front of the armies. He is leading and his words are powerful. Who can stand against all of this?

The followers of Jesus will do exactly what they are told to do. They cannot be wounded in battle, they will have great physical abilities. They will have some type of mechanized projectiles. They will do exactly as the Lord says. They will not be stopped by poor health, or a lack of knowledge of weaponry. They will sweep the earth looking for those who took the mark of the beast and sought to make war with the Lamb and his called, chosen, and faithful. We are supposed to tell the younger generations of these things. We are to warn the world of this coming day.

Jesus is going to press the grapes again.

Revelation19:15  And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

Revelation19:15 G2532 And G1537 from out of G3588   G4750 his mouth G1473   G1607 goes forth G4501 [3broadsword G1366 2double-edged G3691 1a sharp], G2443 that G1722 with G1473 it G3960 he should strike G3588 the G1484 nation G2532 And G1473 he G4165 shall tend G1473 them G1722 with G4464 a rod G4603 of iron.

πατάσσω
patassō pat-as'-so Probably a prolongation from G3817; to knock (gently or with a weapon or fatally) KJV Usage: smite, strike.

Jesus has a sharp double edged sword to strike the nations. He is not slaying the Jews, just the nations. He will rule the nations with a rod of Iron. This sword comes out of his mouth. If we go back to verse 13 the broadsword is/are his words. His name is The Word of God. Not “a” word, but “the” word. Everything he says is The Word of God, that is His name. Therefore what proceeds from out of his mouth are words like a sharp double edged sword that commands things into being. In this case His words are used to kill the remaining people who were not killed by the army.

Jesus is going to make wine from grapes when it comes to these people. Not literally, but he will trample people as if they were grapes in a vat that makes wine. He is doing it with fierceness and passion, in vengeance and wrath. He is not lightly stomping, he is violently indignant. His father is mad and Jesus is taking out the people who not only rejected Jesus as the Christ, but then rejected the Heavenly Father, Theos Pantokratōr/Elohim Shaddi.

Think about what the Father had to watch Jesus go through. Jesus/Yahweh/I AM created the heavens and earth, and the adam (the man), but an usurper destroyed His creation. Then the Father watched as Yahweh attempted to lead and direct a people who were heirs of just a handful of people who willingly and intimately chose to walk with Him. Then Yahweh/I AM himself came to earth only to be brutally crucified in order to win back humans from eternal death. All the while the Father watched as His son allowed Himself to be murdered for the salvation of the race of humans that He created. Now, at the end of the age, the Father is enraged, ready to eliminate this usurper and those who follow the usurper. While the Father’s Son is now elevated to being a King and Lord, the usurper is about to be dethroned and demoted to the pit for one thousand years. The Son is fulfilling the words of His Father.

If we remember back to our studies regarding the heart, the brain, and the kidneys, we will remember that man is created to feel. Humans feel physical pain and emotional pain. Feeling physical and emotional pain, Jesus experienced everything we might feel. The satan exploits this part of humans using it as a manipulation tool. But as the Essenes taught us, this world is not our real or final life. As soon as we are freed from this body we begin our true life. Yet while we are bound to this life in our bodies, we all go through pain, physical and emotional, and the Heavenly Father watched His only Son be rejected, mocked, and tortured by the very creation his Son created. Then all those who believed on and trusted in the Father’s Son Jesus to be their Lord and Savior were then “picked on” too. No wonder the Heavenly Father is mad.

Revelation 19:16  And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Revelation 19:16 G2532 And G2192 he has G1909 upon G3588 the G2440 cloak, G2532 and G1909 upon G3588   G3382 his thigh, G1473   G3686 a name G1125 being written, G935 King G935 of kings, G2532 and G2962 Lord G2962 of lords.

On his cloak and on his thigh Jesus has a name, this name tells us of his rank or position. It says he is King of all the kings, and Lord of all the lords. He is in charge of everyone, all kings and all lords and everyone under them. Since his name is written on his coat and on his thigh, it will be hard for any of the satan’s armies to mistake who he is.

An angel calls for the birds to eat. What are they eating. They are eating everything and everyone that was struck down.

There will be another time in the future when the birds will eat the flesh of the enemies of Israel, after the one thousand year Millennial reign when the satan is loosed. This last battle before the New Heaven and New Earth is the battle of Gog and Magog, but it is not to be confused with this time before the end of the tribulation. In this tribulation battle the Lord and His armies go out against the nations led by the wild beast and false prophet. In the Gog and Magog battle the Lord Himself battles for the heirs of Jacob. At the end of the one thousand year reign, the nations come against the land of Israel that has lived in security, and Ezekiel (not an angel) is asked to call the birds to come and eat. The angel continues:

Revelation19:18  That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

Revelation19:18 G2443 that G2068 you should eat G4561 flesh G935 of kings, G2532 and G4561 flesh G5506 of commanders of thousands, G2532 and G4561 flesh G2478 of strong men, G2532 and G4561 flesh G2462 of horses, G2532 and G3588 of the ones G2521 sitting G1909 upon G1473 them, G2532 and G4561 flesh G3956 of all, G1658 both free G5037   G2532 and G1401 bondmen, G3397 both small G1473   G2532 and G3173 great.

John backs up just a bit. John has already told us how this turns out, but he goes back in the story line so that he can explain what is also taking place at the same time with the wild beast and false prophet.

Revelation19:19  And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

Revelation19:19 G2532 And G1492 I saw G3588 the G2342 beast, G2532 and G3588 the G935 kings G3588 of the G1093 earth, G2532 and G3588   G4753 their militaries G1473   G4863 being gathered together G4160 to make G4171 war G3326 with G3588 the one G2521 sitting G1909 upon G3588 the G2462 horse, G2532 and G3326 with G3588   G4753 his military. G1473

This is what John told us about in chapter 17 when he put that little future clip in for us to understand. He wanted to give us the good news before finishing the details of the story.

Revelation 17:14 (KJV)
14  These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

The beast, the kings of earth, and all the armies, amounting to about 1 billion people will attempt to fight against Jesus and his armies. Remember, Jesus comes wearing his title; King of kings and Lord of lords, and Jesus’ armies have supernatural abilities and projectile weapons. The wild beast’s weapons can’t kill the armies of Christ so this really is a losing battle.

Revelation 19:20  And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

2303 LSJ Gloss:θεῖον brimstone the divinity
Dodson:θεῖον brimstone, sulfur.
Thayer:

1a) divine incense, because burning brimstone was regarded as having power to purify, and to ward off disease

θεῖον
theion
thi'-on
Probably neuter of G2304 (in its original sense of flashing); sulphur
KJV Usage: brimstone.

There is a lake of consuming fire. The wild beast and the false prophet are going to be thrown into this lake of fire that burns with sulphur or brimstone. The lake is composed of sulphur or brimstone and it consumes and burns.  Notice the word theion it is a derivative of Theios which is derived from Theos. Sulphur or brimstone is likened to divinity and ultimately God. This is holy, burning, flashing, sulphur. Remember what Enoch told us about the face of the Lord?

THE BOOK OF THE SECRETS OF ENOCH. http://www.sacred-texts.com/bib/fbe/fbe129.htm
22:1 ON the tenth Heaven, Aravoth, I saw the appearance of the Lord's face, like iron made to glow in fire, and brought out, emitting sparks, and it burns.
2 Thus I saw the Lord's face, but the Lord's face is ineffable, marvellous and very awful, and very, very terrible.

There is a holy fire, not just a spiritual fire from the Holy Spirit as in tongues of fire, but it seems fire, lightning, and sulphur, are an important part of the activities of heaven.

Revelation 19:21  And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

As the army of the Lord does it’s sweep of the world, anyone remaining from the nations are killed by the broadsword of the Lord. We will end with a few verses to consider and pick up on the Day of the Lord next week.

Obadiah 1:15 (AMP)
15  For the day of the Lord is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it shall be done to you; your dealings will return upon your own head.

Zephaniah 2:2-3 (AMP)
2  [The time for repentance is speeding by like chaff whirled before the wind!] Therefore consider, before God's decree brings forth [the curse upon you], before the time [to repent] is gone like the drifting chaff, before the fierce anger of the Lord comes upon you—yes, before the day of the wrath of the Lord comes upon you!
3  Seek the Lord [inquire for Him, inquire of Him, and require Him as the foremost necessity of your life], all you humble of the land who have acted in compliance with His revealed will and have kept His commandments; seek righteousness, seek humility [inquire for them, require them as vital]. It may be you will be hidden in the day of the Lord's anger.

Psalm 27:4-5 (AMP)
4  One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.
5  For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret place of His tent will He hide me; He will set me high upon a rock.
