Liberated; Ransom Paid; Rescue Us; Our Redeemers Blood

We have been redeemed, we are being redeemed, and we will be redeemed. As we studied last week we are hostages on the earth under the  ruler of the darkness of this world, until we confess Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Jesus bought us with his blood. The people who lived before Christ understood that they would one day be redeemed. They were waiting for their redeemer. David knew and expected that he would be redeemed and the sons of Korah reiterated and appropriated David’s expectation. When Jesus was on the earth the people were expecting a redeemer for Israel. Jesus taught us how to pray for our rescue from evil while we are on the earth. In our time Jesus has paid a price for those who believe on Him. He liberated us from sin. We then find out from Paul that we are rescued from the coming wrath and will be released by ransom into the Kingdom of Heaven. There is a lot to the blood of Jesus.

In today’s world we talk about liberation from oppressive governments but we are shortsighted as to who is behind those oppressive governments. The Elohim is our liberator. Whether we recognize it or not we are imprisoned and oppressed on the earth, Yahweh liberates us.

Psa 19:14  Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Psalms 19:14 G2532 And G1510.8.6 [4will be G1519 5for G2107 6benevolence G3588 1the G3051 2oracles G3588   G4750 3of my mouth], G1473   G2532 and G3588 the G3191.1 meditation G3588   G2588 of my heart G1473   G1799 before G1473 you G1275 always, G2962 O lord, G998 my helper G1473   G2532 and G3086 the one ransoming G1473 me.

λυτρωτής

lutrōtēs loo-tro-tace' From G3084; a redeemer (figuratively) KJV Usage: deliverer.

David recognized his need to be ransomed, or for someone to pay his ransom. From our perspective, looking at the scope of the word of God, we see the harpazo as our liberation from an evil world. David also says that Yahweh is his boēthos. This is the same word used in Genesis 2:18-20 in regards to the creation of the woman. Yahweh Elohim created the woman, later called Eve, to be a helper for the adam. She is the one to call on from the Elohim. Yahweh is our boēthos

Asaph writes about Israel putting God to the test in their hearts. He records the sins of Israel in the wilderness and then says this:

Psalm 78:35 G2532 And G3403 they remembered G3754 that G3588   G2316 God G998 [2their helper G1473   G1510.2.3 1is], G2532 and G3588   G2316 God G3588 the G5310 Highest G3086 [2ransomer G1473 1is their]. G1510.2.3

When the people did not trust the Elohim they died in their sins but then people sought the Elohim and remembered that he is their boēthos, someone to cry out to from the Elohim for help. Asaph used this same idea, except in light of the Elohim being the one to call on when in need of help. This same Elohim is the Supreme Elohim who is their liberator.

We have a mistranslation in Job, where it suggests that Job says he knows that his redeemer lives. That is not quite true. Job was expecting that Yahweh would loose him from the earth or allow him to die. Yahweh is described as the one whose presence Job would be in when Job rises up from his skin.

Job 19:25 G1492 For I know G1063   G3754 that G104.1 [6everlasting G1510.2.3 5is G3588 1the one G1590 3to enfeeble G1473 4me G3195 2being about] G1909 upon G1093 the earth,

  26 G450 to raise up G3588   G1192 my skin G1473   G3588   G369.1 being fatigued G3778 by these things . G3844 For by G1063   G2962 the lord G3778 these things G1473 was exhausted on me, G4931

“For I know that the perpetual is about to loose me on the earth, rise from my skin this without hesitation for from the presence of Yahweh this he completes entirely”

Job is saying that the everlasting one is about to untie him from the earth or loose him from being alive. However he knows that he will rise from his skin promptly or without hesitation and that this will be fulfilled in the presence of Yahweh. This is extraordinary faith. He realizes that he will be resurrected into Yahweh’s presence. Job understands the place of the righteous dead, Abraham’s Bay. His death on earth is not the end.

When we think about Job and the physical pain that he endured, he was unrecognizable to his friends. Job knew he would rise up and Yahweh would do this for him. Yahweh is described as redeeming Job by the idea of Job’s resurrection, but the words redeemer or deliverer are not used in the text. Job believed that he would leave his body behind and be in the presence of Yahweh. Job’s redemption was further in the future than he expected.

Yahweh told Moses to tell Jacob’s heirs that He, Yahweh, is going to lead them out of Egypt.

Exodus 6:6 G897.2 Proceed, G2036 say G3588 to the G5207 sons G* of Israel! λυτρόω

lutroō loo-tro'-o From G3083; to ransom (literally or figuratively) KJV Usage: redeem.

Yahweh promises to ransom them or liberate them from the domination of the Egyptians. This is a great example for us. We might be under an oppressive ruling government, we can pray for an exodus. Yahweh did it once he can do it again. David declared it too.

Psalm 32:7 G1473 You G1473 are my G1510.2.2   G2707.1 refuge G575 from G2347 affliction G3588   G4023 encompassing G1473 me; G3588   G19.1 my leap for joy G1473   G3084 to ransom G1473 me G575 from G3588 the G2944 ones encircling G1473 me. G1316.1 PAUSE.

Yahweh is David’s refuge from affliction that encompassed him. Remember that David was a giant slayer and he did not have the full support of all the people of Israel because the people had mixed with other nations, including the Philistines. But David puts the expectation of his deliverance in his present circumstance by rejoicing while encircled by his enemies. In the present, when we are afflicted we can rejoice expecting our ransom.

David also suggests a future ransom for Yahweh’s people.

Psalm 34:22 G3084 The lord shall ransom G2962   G5590 the souls G1401 of his servants; G1473   G2532 and G3766.2 in no way G4131.2 shall [6offend G3956 1all G3588 2the G1679 3ones hoping G1909 4upon G1473 5him].

When will the soul be ransomed? When the dead in Christ rise up first. David understood that there would be a future ransoming and on the day of Pentecost Peter quotes David.

Acts 2:25 G* For David G1063   G3004 says G1519 concerning G1473 him, G4308 I foresaw G3588 the G2962 Lord G1799 before me G1473   G1275 continually; G3754 for G1537 [2at G1188 3my right hand G1473   G1510.2.3 1he is] G2443 that G3361 I shall not be shaken. G4531

  26 G1223 On account of G3778 this G2165 [2was made merry G3588   G2588 1my heart], G1473   G2532 and G21 [2exulted G3588   G1100 1my tongue]; G1473   G2089 but still G1161   G2532 also G3588   G4561 my flesh G1473   G2681 shall encamp G1909 in G1680 hope.

  27 G3754 For G3756 you shall not abandon G1459   G3588   G5590 my soul G1473   G1519 into G86 Hades, G3761 nor G1325 shall you give G3588   G3741 your sacred one G1473   G1492 to see G1312 corruption.

28 G1107 You made known G1473 to me G3598 the ways G2222 of life; G4137 you shall fill G1473 me G2167 with gladness G3326 with G3588   G4383 your countenance. G1473

This is quoted from Psalm 16. It is an inscription on a monument. Imagine if we could inscribe a monument to remind everyone of the day of redemption. Yahweh is still on our right.

Psalm 16:8 G4308 I foresaw G3588 the G2962 lord G1799 before G1473 me G1275 always; G3754 for G1537 [2on G1188 3my right G1473   G1510.2.3 1he is] G2443 that G3361 I should not G4531 be shaken.

  9 G1223 On account of G3778 this G2165 [2was glad G3588   G2588 1my heart], G1473   G2532 and G21 [2exulted G3588   G1100 1my tongue]; G1473   G2089 and still G1161   G2532 also G3588   G4561 my flesh G1473   G2681 shall encamp G1909 in G1680 hope.

  10 G3754 For G3756 you shall not abandon G1459   G3588   G5590 my soul G1473   G1519 in G86 Hades, G3761 nor G1325 shall you give G3588   G3741 your sacred one G1473   G1492 to see G1312 corruption.

  11 G1107 You made known G1473 to me G3598 the ways G2222 of life. G4137 You shall fill G1473 me G2167 of gladness G3326 with G3588   G4383 your face. G1473   G5059.5 Delightfulness G1722 is at G3588   G1188 your right G1473   G1519 unto G5056 the end.

David inscribed that Yahweh would not abandon his soul in Hades. David was not abandoned in Hades. Peter understood that Jesus set the captives free. Notice what Peter said just prior to quoting David.

Acts 2:24 G3739 Whom G3588   G2316 God G450 raised up, G3089 having loosed G3588 the G5604 pangs G3588   G2288 of death; G2530 in so far as G3756 it was not G1510.7.3   G1415 possible G2902 for him to be held G1473   G5259 by G1473 it.

The Elohim raised up Jesus and untied the pain of death and Jesus could not be held by death. This was David’s hope or expectation, that the Messiah would come to pay his life as a ransom so that the ones believing on Yahweh could be set free from Hades or Abraham’s bay and be released to paradise.

The sons of Korah reiterate this.

Psalms 49:15 G4133 Except G3588   G2316 God G3084 shall ransom G3588   G5590 my soul G1473   G1537 from out of G5495 the hand G86 of Hades, G3752 whenever G2983 he should take G1473 me.

All the servants of Yahweh were ransomed from Hades. Jesus taught us this. They now await our ransom from the earth and will rise up first while we join them in the air. Before Jesus came, the expectation was to be ransomed from Hades. After Jesus came, the believers in Christ were not sentenced to Hades, but await the number of nations to enter into redemption and then for the living to be ransomed from earth on the day of redemption.

Isaiah 44:24 G3779 Thus G3004 says G2962 the lord, G3588 the G3084 one ransoming G1473 you, G2532 and G4111 the one shaping G1473 you G1537 from G2836 the belly, G1473 I am G2962 the lord, G3588 the one G4931 completing G3956 all things . G1614 I stretched out G3588 the G3772 heaven G3441 alone, G2532 and G4732 solidified G3588 the G1093 earth.

We can see Isaiah speaking/writing for Yahweh, speaks of Yahweh as Creator. We want to make a logical comparison here. Satanas is not a creator, nor can he create. He is the god/ruler of this world, but not a Creator. If one were to worship Satanas, that one worships a lesser being, one that is inferior to Yahweh and who was created by Yahweh. Satanas was perfect until sin was found in him. Therefore it is illogical to worship a lesser god who cannot create and who would never give his own life for his followers, and one who wants to take as many humans to hell as he can. Satanas will be mocked in hell.

During the time of the first century, the believers who walked among Christ thought that Jesus was going to ransom Israel at that time. They were confused when he died and seemingly nothing happened.

Luke 24:21 G1473 But we G1161   G1679 were hoping G3754 that G1473 he G1510.2.3 is G3588 the one G3195 about G3084 to ransom G3588   G* Israel. G235 But G1065 indeed G4862 with G3956 all G3778 these things, G5154 [3this third G3778   G2250 4day G71 2leads in G4594 1today], G575 from G3739 which time G3778 these things G1096 took place.

Imagine explaining to Jesus what Jesus did. They were hoping to be ransomed but in many people’s minds that meant giving Israel back to her own rule, out from under the Romans. Jesus was redeeming more than one tribe he was redeeming all tribes.

Isaiah 44:6 G3779 Thus G3004 says G3588   G2316 God, G3588 the G935 king G* of Israel, G2532 and G3588 the one G4506 rescuing G1473 him -- G2316 the God G4519 of Hosts. G1473 I am G4413 first, G2532 and G1473 I am G3326 after G3778 these things; G4133 besides G1473 me G3756 there is no G1510.2.3   G2316 God.

We can’t miss this prophecy. Who is the first and the last? The same one who is the King of Israel. The Elohim who is speaking is the Elohim of Hosts or Elohim Sabaoth. The Elohim Sabaoth is the one rescuing Israel, and he is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, the Alpha and Omega, and there is no other Elohim rescuing Israel or the nations.

Is Satanas rescuing anyone? No. Jesus, who gave his life for Israel and the nations, is our rescuer. Even when Jesus was born and dedicated in the temple the people were waiting for their ransoming.

We have to understand that people knew the scriptures. They expected a Messiah to be born of a virgin. All the girls in those days expected that they could be the one to bring the Messiah into the world. Yet the religious leaders who had betrayed Yahweh over and over, caused the people to believe that the word of God had been broken. Anna praised, confessed, and gave thanks because she had met the Messiah.

Because Jesus is our High Priest, he made a perfect sacrifice for an eternal ransoming.

Hebrews 9:11 G5547 But Christ G1161   G3854 being come G749 is chief priest G3588 of the G3195 [2about to be G18 1good things], G1223 through G3588 the G3173 greater G2532 and G5046 more perfect G4633 tent, G3756 not G5499 made by hand -- G5123 that is to say, G3756 not G3778 of this G3588   G2937 creation,

Jesus obtained a perpetual ransom, meaning that there is no expiration in this age as to who can be ransomed. The ability to be ransomed will last for the rest of the age. After the harpazo, during the tribulation, people will able to be ransomed, although they will be martyred.

Paul tells the Thessalonians that they/we are waiting for Jesus, from out of heaven, and he rescues us.

Jesus does what? Jesus rescues us from what? Jesus rescues us from the wrath to come. What wrath to come? The wrath of the Lamb. The tribulation. The wrath of the Father. The coming wrath is the tribulation where the earths population dwindles from almost eight billion today to about two billion. There is a rescue from the coming wrath, what is it? It is believing on Jesus as Lord and believing that he rose up on the third day. Those who are alive on the earth when Jesus calls from the air will be harpazo’d with the dead in Christ. All those in Christ will be rescued from the coming wrath. You will be rescued from the coming wrath if you have made Jesus Lord.

Notice Paul telling Timothy about being rescued in the past tense, the present tense, the future tense, and the far future tense.

The Lord is with Paul, empowering him so that the nations could hear; present tense. Paul was rescued from fighting a lion in the arena at Ephesus; past tense. Paul says he will be rescued from all evil; future tense. Paul says he is saved for the kingdom of heaven; far future tense. If we understand this, we will realize that Jesus’ perpetual ransoming and rescuing is for our whole lives on the earth. Jesus decimated Satanas’ kingdom. Paul tells the Corinthians this:

2 Corinthians 1:10 G3739 Who G1537 from out of G5082 such a G2288 death G4506 rescued G1473 us, G2532 and G4506 does rescue; G1519 in G3739 whom G1679 we have hope G3754 that G2532 also G2089 still G4506 he shall rescue;

Our expectation is in Jesus our Lord rescuing us. Jesus died to rescue us, perpetually through the age. Again for a comparison, the incorporeal being Satanas does not rescue anyone who worships him. He does not lay his own life down for others so that they may live. Instead, Satanas wants to destroy as many humans as possible with eternal death. Jesus gave his followers a remedy in prayer. He tells us to ask to be rescued from evil.

Matthew 6:9 G3779 So G3767 then G4336 you pray! G1473   G3962 Our father, G1473   G3588 the one G1722 in G3588 the G3772 heavens, G37 sanctify G3588   G3686 your name! G1473

Father, make holy, dedicate, and set apart your name. “God” is a title not a name. The Father and the Son have names. Jesus says to make the Fathers name holy and pure. Therefore instead of praying to God, king, ruler, or majesty, pray to the Heavenly Father, the Father of our Lord Jesus, El Shaddai or Pantokratōr, El Elyon or Hupsistos, El Olam or Aiōn. The Almighty, Most High, Everlasting, is our Heavenly Father. In comparison, every other god will be destroyed, the devil, the incorporeal satan, the fallen spiritual sons of God, and the demons. But the Almighty, Most High, Perpetual, Holy Father has always been and always will be. No other god is Almighty or Omnipotent. No other god is Supreme. No other god is Eternal. Call Him Holy.

Matthew 6:10 G2064 Let [2come G3588   G932 1your kingdom]! G1473   G1096 Let [2come to pass G3588   G2307 1your will] G1473   G5613 as G1722 in G3772 heaven G2532 also G1909 upon G3588 the G1093 earth!

Jesus says to declare the Almighty, Most High, Eternal Father’s kingdom and His will, to come to pass on earth as it already does in heaven. Why do we declare the future? Paul explains that Abraham trusted the Father who brought the dead to life and called things into being.

Matthew 6:11 G3588   G740 Our bread, G1473   G3588 the G1967 sufficient, G1325 give G1473 to us G4594 today!

Jesus suggests that we ask for sufficient food. This acknowledges that the Father is the source and supply of our food. Thank the Almighty Most High Eternal Father for our sufficient food. The earth produces because the declaration comes from our Eternal Father.

Matthew 6:12 G2532 And G863 forgive G1473 us G3588   G3783 our debts! G1473   G5613 as G2532 also G1473 we G863 forgive G3588   G3781 our debtors. G1473

We are to ask to discharge our debts or release us from what we legally owe. We are to ask for a write-off of our debts. We simply cannot pay for our own sins, Jesus was the only one who could remit payment for us. We owe considerably and we have been damaged abundantly so that we are not worth as much as we could be had we never sinned. Almighty Father write off what we owe.

Now the next part is critical, we are to also write off the debts of others. As we forgive those indebted to us, our debts will be forgiven. This is a balance system. If we hold others responsible for their sins, then we will have our sins held against us. There are two other things that are weighed and balanced, mercy and judgment. If we extend mercy we will receive mercy. If we harshly judge the sins of others, our sins are judged in the same manner. And if we forgive, we receive forgiveness. Simply forgive. It is a simple way to cleanse our heart and close the door to the enemy.

Matthew 6:13 G2532 And G3361 do not G1533 insert G1473 us G1519 for G3986 a test, G235 but G4506 rescue G1473 us G575 from G3588 the G4190 wicked one! G3754 For G1473 of you G1510.2.3 is G3588 the G932 kingdom, G2532 and G3588 the G1411 power, G2532 and G3588 the G1391 glory, G1519 into G3588 the G165 eons, G281 amen.

We are to ask not to be brought into a test, a trial, or a temptation. As we studied Job, Abraham, and Isaac recently we recognize that the devil is always trying to prove that we are going to fail. Remember that the devil sports with us. The devil is always attempting to experiment with us to see what will make us fall. Here is the key. If we ask not to be led into provocation, the Father will oblige. If we don’t ask, the devil may ask to make proof of us. If we ask not to be tested first, the devil will not be allowed to test us. Simple and easy.

We are to ask: “rescue us away from evil”. It seems Westcott and Hort added the idea that we are to be rescued from an evil being, rather than all evil. The word “one” does not appear in the text, therefore this was Westcott and Hort’s personal opinion. Ponēros derives from ponos, anguish, toil, travail, distress. This is a physical rescuing like rescuing baby Moses from the Nile or rescuing David from Saul. Almighty Most High Eternal Father, rescue me away from all evil.

This is broadly speaking, all evil. We need to be delivered from all evil and that is what we are to ask of our Father. All evil includes evil spiritual beings, evil people, evil situations, and evil temptations. Rescue us from those whose hearts are irretrievably severed and intentionally scheme to harm us. Rescue us from demons. Rescue us from the fallen sons of God. Rescue us from the god of this world, the devil. Rescue us from the incorporeal satan, the one transforming into an angel of light. Rescue us from evil governments. Rescue us from religious persecutions. Rescue us from false prophets and false Christians leaders. We could go on and on, but Jesus is trying to keep our prayers short for our benefit.

Pray this way:

Almighty Most High Eternal Father, sanctify Your name. Your kingdom shall come to earth. I invite Your will to be done on this earth as it is in the heavens. Give me sufficient food for the day. Write off my debts. I write off the debts of (list them) others. Do not let me be tested. Do not let the devil experiment with me or sport with me. Rescue me away from evil. Through You is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever, amen.

Jesus tells us to ask to be rescued from evil. In this we can be like Paul with our own testimony. We can explain to others how we have been rescued in the past and in the present. We can explain how we can be rescued in the future, and in the far future.

Paul tells us that we have been rescued out of the authority of darkness. He also says that we have the release by ransom.

Colossians 1:12 G2168 giving thanks G3588 to the G2316 God G2532 and G3962 father, G3588 to the one G2427 making us fit G1473   G1519 in G3588 the G3310 portion G3588 of the G2819 lot G3588 of the G39 holy ones G1722 in G3588 the G5457 light;

  13 G3739 who G4506 rescued G1473 us G1537 from out of G3588 the G1849 authority G3588 of the G4655 darkness, G2532 and G3179 changed us over G1519 to G3588 the G932 kingdom G3588 of the G5207 son G3588   G26 of his love; G1473

  14 G1722 in G3739 whom G2192 we have G3588 the G629 release by ransom G1223 through G3588   G129 his blood -- G1473   G3588 the G859 release G3588   G266 of sins;

We are released by Jesus’ payment of our ransom, which is a release from sin. This is truly amazing. Jesus’ blood was our only way to be free and Jesus liberated us by paying our ransom. Paul says this again.

Ephesians 1:7 G1722 by G3739 whom G2192 we have G3588 the G629 release by ransom G1223 through G3588   G129 his blood, G1473   G3588 the G859 release G3588   G3900 of transgressions, G2596 according to G3588 the G4149 riches G3588   G5484 of his favor, G1473

We are released by ransom through Jesus’ blood. We see that this is a subject that all the churches needed to know, as Paul seems to tell everyone the importance of this message. Now we see that when we heard the word of truth, the gospel of deliverance, we were sealed by the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 1:13 G1722 In G3739 whom G2532 also G1473 you, G191 having heard G3588 the G3056 word G3588 of the G225 truth G3588 the G2098 good news G3588   G4991 of your deliverance -- G1473   G1722 in G3739 whom G2532 also G4100 having trusted, G4972 you were sealed G3588 by the G4151 spirit G3588 of the G1860 promise G3588 in the G39 holy;

  14 G3739 who G1510.2.3 is G728 the deposit G3588   G2817 of our inheritance, G1473   G1519 in G629 a release by ransom G3588 of the G4047 procurement G1519 in G1868 high praise G3588   G1391 of his glory. G1473

This is how the process of our liberation works. We hear and we believe. We are rescued from our past sins. Then we are sealed with the Holy Spirit.  In the present we are being rescued from all evil. In the future we are rescued on the day of redemption, when Jesus calls from the clouds. This is when we are saved from the wrath to come. We are then rescued into the Kingdom of Heaven. The Holy Spirit is our deposit, or the one who marks us out for an inheritance. The Holy Spirit is our seal or stamp for the day of redemption. This is what Paul tells the Ephesian church.

Eph 4:30 G2532 And G3361 do not G3076 fret G3588 the G4151 [2spirit G3588   G39 1holy] G3588   G2316 of God, G1722 in G3739 which G4972 you were sealed G1519 for G2250 the day G629 of release by ransom!

Paul suggests not to grieve the Holy Spirit, which tells us the Holy Spirit  can grieve, or fret, or be distressed over us. This is important in and of itself. But the Holy Spirit is our stamp for the day of release by ransom. There is a day coming, in the near future, when those who are believers in Christ will be liberated from the earth and Satanas’ domain, for the Kingdom of Heaven. Why do we have such a hard time understanding that there is a day of redemption? A day when Jesus takes all the stamped people off the earth, rescued from the wrath to come.

Satanas tries very hard to make a mockery of Jesus crucifixion. He tries to minimize Jesus’ blood, given as a ransom for us. Satanas does not have blood of his own. He does not give anything to anyone for eternal life. Jesus so loved us, he rescued us, he is rescuing us, he will rescue us, and he will rescue us into His glory. This is the good news that we have in Christ Jesus our Messiah. May we come to understand how precious and costly Jesus’ blood given as a ransom for us really is. May we live worthy of the liberation Jesus procured for our rescue.

Blessings for a Merry Christmas Everyone. See you in twenty two!
