Held Hostage; Buying His People; He Paid Our Ransom; Valuable and Valued

This is the time of year we buy presents for our loved ones. We attempt to buy our loved one gifts that make them feel loved and appreciated. We go into stores or shop on line and we pick out the perfect gifts. We spend time and energy looking at each item. Jesus has done the same thing. Jesus bought us. Jesus is making a list, and checking it twice, because he is getting ready to redeem us. He will hand his list over to the ruling angelic host, and they will call us all one by one into the clouds. We see that there are people who are singing in heaven just before Jesus opens the seals and they are singing about being bought or redeemed. Why does Jesus have to buy his people? Who owns humans? We are hostages born into slavery and Jesus remedied our situation by purchasing those who believe on Jesus. The exchange of our lives for Jesus’ life is something of great value. It was also Jesus’ plan from the beginning. Peter warns that pseudo-prophets and pseudo-teachers deny that Jesus bought us. But it is Jesus’ precious valuable blood that Satanas wanted in exchange for us. Jesus knew that Satanas would demand the life of the Messiah and Jesus willingly gave his blood as payment for our ransom. We are told to buy back the time and buy back opportunity in wisdom. Let’s explore.

Jesus chooses us after we choose him. We know that for Jesus it is the casting of lots, or the rolling of dice, as to who chooses him. But once we choose him he purchases us. It is as if Jesus, from the upper heavens, looks on earth and selects all those who have chosen him. He fills out a raincheck for each of us, and on the day of redemption, he will redeem us. We are on his list. Now our path for salvation is predetermined.

When we look at Revelation 5 we see myriads of people who sing about being bought. The word used here is agorazō meaning “something purchased in a market” or “to redeem”. Some translators use the word “redeemed” here.

Revelation 5:9 G2532 And G103 they sang G5603 [2ode G2537 1a new], G3004 saying, G514 Worthy G1510.2.2 are you G2983 to take G3588 the G975 scroll, G2532 and G455 to open G3588   G4973 its seals; G1473   G3754 for G4969 you were slain, G2532 and G59 you bought G3588   G2316 us to God G1473   G1722 by G3588   G129 your blood, G1473   G1537 from out of G3956 every G5443 tribe, G2532 and G1100 tongue, G2532 and G2992 people, G2532 and G1484 nation.

agorazō

ag-or-ad'-zo From G58; properly to go to market, that is, (by implication) to purchase; specifically to redeem KJV Usage: buy, redeem.

Let’s refresh our memory on this section of scripture as there are several mistranslations we want to be aware of.

Revelation 5:9G2532And  that G103they sang sing G5603[ode G2537a new], G3004saying,

103 Dodson: ᾄδω I sing.

Strong's: ᾄδω to sing Derivation: a primary verb; KJV Usage: sing.

Thayer:

1) to the praise of anyone, to sing

ᾄδω  adō  ad'-o  A primary verb; to sing

KJV Usage: sing.

2537 καινός  kainos  kahee-nos'  Of uncertain affinity; new (especially in freshness; while G3501 is properly so with respect to age) KJV Usage: new.

5603 ᾠδή  ōdē  o-day'  From G103; a chant or “ode” (the general term for any words sung; while G5215 denotes especially a religious metrical composition, and G5568 still more specifically a Hebrewcantillation

KJV Usage: song.

This is part of our trouble. The word “and” should be “that”, and the word “they” is not in the text. Adding the word “they” seems to make the ones singing out to be the “beasts and elders”, but the word “they” is not in the text. Therefore the ones singing are the saints. The word “sang” is in the wrong tense, it should be “sing”. At this time it is a present tense reality. The beasts and elders offer the prayers of the saints that sing a new song.

The prayers of the saints are an offering. This is not collected prayers from the beginning of time, these are collected prayers from the time that the saints were harpazo’d and are standing before the throne with the beasts, spirits, and elders. The saints are the above congregation, they are the ones singing new songs. They could not sing what they are singing now prior to the harpazo. They could only sing this new song when it became applicable. It is new because Jesus can now take the scroll. He hasn’t taken it yet, but when he does the saints will be praying and singing about it and what is about to take place.

Revelation 5:9 G2532 And that G103 they sang sing G5603 [2ode G2537 1a new], G3004 saying, G514

Here is the song they are presently singing:

Worthy G1510.2.2 are you G2983 to take G3588 the G975 scroll, G2532 and G455 to open G3588   G4973 its seals; G1473   G3754 for G4969 you were slain, G2532 and G59 you bought G3588   G2316 us to God G1473   G1722 by G3588   G129 your blood, G1473   G1537 from out of G3956 every G5443 tribe, G2532 and G1100 tongue, G2532 and G2992 people, G2532 and G1484 nation.

Revelation 5:9-10 (KJV)

And that they sung sing a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

10  And hast made us unto our God kings and priests and we shall reign on the earth.

If we remember, the only beings that can be redeemed are humans. Angels are not redeemed, cherubim are not redeemed, demons are not redeemed, and animals are not redeemed either. This song can only be sung by humans who were just redeemed. As most of this song is a reiteration of Revelation 1:5-6, it is the Revelation of Jesus Christ. The only ones who can be made kings and priests are humans who are redeemed by Jesus’ blood. Jesus bought us with his blood and washed us from our sin. Jesus did not buy angels, cherubim, demons or animals with his blood. Only humans can be redeemed and only humans are bought by Jesus and washed from sin.

We generally do not understand this from the secular point of view, but we are hostages on this earth. We were stolen when the adam sinned. Jesus is buying us back. The price for our freedom from Satanas is Jesus’ blood. Satanas thought that Jesus would stay dead, in hades, under his, Satanas’, control. But as we know the grave could not hold Christ who was sinless. Jesus bought us. He came to earth to buy us back. This is what redemption is.

When we understand that Jesus bought us then we do not have to live according to the world. We are temples of the Holy Spirit because of Jesus’ blood that cleansed us from our sins. There are three tenses to understand here. When Jesus died he set in motion redemption for believers. That is past tense. But we did not live two thousand years ago, so our redemption is now guaranteed in our age, that is present. We will be redeemed in a future time, harpazo’d, when the dead in Christ rise and the living join them in the air. We were bought and paid for, we are bought and paid for, and we will be gathered and taken home.

1 Corinthians 6:19 G2228 Or G3756 do you not G1492 know G3754 that G3588   G4983 your body G1473   G3485 [2a temple G3588 3of the G1722 6in G1473 7you G39 4holy G4151 5spirit G1510.2.3 1is], G3739 which G2192 you have G575 from G2316 God, G2532 and G3756 you are not G1510.2.5   G1438 your own?

“Or not perceive that the your flesh is temple/sanctuary/shrine the Holy Spirit in you that possess away from the Elohim and not your own self.”

We are not our own. The Holy Spirit is in us, we possess the Holy Spirit in us because the Holy Spirit is on the earth, not living in the heavens. This means we are not our own. Once we have been bought we are Jesus’ and the Holy Spirit dwells inside us.

1 Corinthians 6:20 G59 For you were bought G1063   G5092 of value; G1392 glorify G1211 [2indeed G3588   G2316 1God] G1722 in G3588   G4983 your body, G1473   G2532 and G1722 in G3588   G4151 your spirit! G1473   G3748 which G1510.2.3 is G3588 the one G2316 of God

“Buy at the market for valuables/money paid glorify the Elohim truly in the your body and in the your spirit that is the Elohim.”

You and I were bought with something valuable. Blood. Sinless Blood. We were not haggled over for a cheaper price, we were bought with a valuable price. Therefore we should glorify the Elohim in our body and in our spirit. We have the Holy Spirit, part of the Elohim, within us. Remember “im” in Hebrew is a plural denoting “three or more”. Father, Son, Holy Spirit are all part of the Elohim, but the Holy Spirit is on the earth dwelling in the redeemed.

1 Corinthians 7:23 G5092 With value G59 you were bought; G3361 do not G1096 become G1401 slaves G444 of men!

  24 G1538 Each G1722 in G3739 which G2564 he was called, G80 brethren, G1722 in G3778 this G3306 abide G3844 with G2316 God!

“Price paid bought not come into being enslaved manfaced, everyone in this summoned fellow Christians in this remain in the presence of the Elohim.”

Paul again points out that we were bought with a price paid. He says no to becoming enslaved manfaced, or enslaved men. We can be enslaved to men or to Satanas, to Drakōn, to demons, or to our own weakness for lusts. Jesus paid a high price for you so don’t be enslaved anymore. Everyone is summoned or called as fellow Christians. We are one body. We are to remain in the presence of the Elohim. If we remain in the presence of the Elohim we will not be enslaved to things of the world. Yet there are people who deny that they were bought with a great price.

2 Peter 2:1 G1096 But there existed G1161   G2532 also G5578 false prophets G1722 among G3588 the G2992 people; G5613 as G2532 also G1722 among G1473 you G1510.8.6 there will be G5572 false teachers, G3748 ones who G3919 shall introduce privately G139 [2sects G684 1destructive], G2532 and G3588 [2the G59 4buying G1473 5them G1203 3master G720 1denying], G1863 bringing G1722 unto G1473 themselves G5031 quick G684 destruction.

The false prophets and false teachers create private sects that are destructive. The pseudo-prophets and pseudo-teachers deny that Jesus bought them and lead others away from this important truth. They have impending destruction and eternal ruin.

This tells us that the recognition that we were bought with a price is important for the world to know. Satanas does not buy anyone with valuables. He does not sacrifice anything of his for his people. Jesus did. Satanas’ people follow him for what they get in this life. Jesus’ people follow him for what they get in the next life. What is valuable to you, your gold, silver, or the life of your child? Imagine how the Heavenly Father felt letting Jesus put this plan in place so that he, Jesus, would pay our ransom by His own blood.

1 Peter 1:18 G1492 knowing G3754 that G3756 not G5349 by corruptible G694 silver G2228 or G5553 gold G3084 were you ransomed G1537 from out of G3588   G3152 your vain G1473   G391 behavior G3970 handed down from your fathers;

We were not ransomed by anything that corrupts. When we believed we were released by Jesus’ ransom. We are released by Jesus’ blood ransom today and every day of our lives. We will be ransomed when Jesus calls us up. The bad behaviors of our ancestors are no longer our concern because we have been released as hostages of Satanas.

Jesus’ precious blood was the price payed. Most often the word timios is used in regards to precious stones or gems. Now imagine, if our blood was as pure and sinless as Jesus’ blood then it would bring health, it would cure sicknesses and disease, it would raise up the dead. This is why Jesus’ blood was honored, it was costly, it was highly esteemed, it was beloved and it was considered precious. Now Peter affirms that this plan of Jesus’ blood given in exchange for us was known before the foundation of the world.

1 Peter 1:20 G4267 having been foreknown G3303 indeed G4253 before G2602 the founding G2889 of the world, G5319 but being manifested G1161   G1909 at G2078 the last G3588 of the G5550 times G1223 for G1473 us,

As we have talked about the manifold or the multifaceted wisdom of Jesus which was made known to the principalities and powers through the church, we see that the plan for Jesus to pay our ransom by his blood was the plan before the adam was created. It was his plan to judge the fallen sons of God through his blood ransom for our kidnapping.

In other words, the adam was created, and once the adam sinned Satanas took over the adams authority on the earth, enslaving all generations to come after. Remember, Satanas and Drakōn and other sons of God do not procreate. We do not see baby satans or baby dragons, or baby angels. They do not procreate and regenerate. So in order for Satanas to have a place and a people to rule over like the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, he had to steal the creation and humanity. He could not generate his own race. He tried when he encouraged the angels to fall creating the Nephil, but he cannot procreate a race himself. After stealing the creation and humanity, Satanas tried to hide the knowledge of the Elohim. He did not succeed and people passed the knowledge of the Elohim down from generation to generation. That Satanas has become more blatant about his own existence and promotes those who worship him shows us that he knows his time is limited. We know the playbook, the one world government, the dwindling down of humans on the earth until the beast tries to make war with the Lamb and his armies. None of which takes place until the believers’ ransom is paid and they are redeemed.

1 Peter 1:21 G3588 the ones G1223 through G1473 him G4100 believing G1519 in G2316 God, G3588 the one G1453 raising G1473 him G1537 from G3498 the dead, G2532 and G1391 [2glory G1473 3to him G1325 1having given], G5620 so as for G3588 the G4102 belief G1473 of yours G2532 and G1680 hope G1510.1 to be G1519 in G2316 God.

Jesus was made visible or made clear in Peter’s day and then those who believe that the Father raised Jesus from the dead and gave Jesus glory are ransomed from Satanas’ kidnapping. We believe and we have our expectation in the Elohim.

Jesus explained that there are nations/people who dominate others and exercise authority over others. The word katexousiazō is literally “downward exercised authority” or “downward control”. This tells us that it is from a position above that these nations and people control others.

Matthew 20:25 G3588   G1161 And G* Jesus G4341 having called G1473 them, G2036 said, G1492 You know G3754 that G3588 the G758 rulers G3588 of the G1484 nations G2634 dominate G1473 them, G2532 and G3588 the G3173 great ones G2715 exercise authority over G1473 them.

  26 G3756 [2not G3779 3so G1161 1But] G1510.8.3 shall it be G1722 with G1473 you. G235 But G3739 who G1437 ever G2309 should want G1722 among G1473 you G3173 [2great G1096 1to become], G1510.8.3 shall be G1473 your G1249 servant.

However there is not supposed to be a downward exercised authority coming from us over other disciples. The greatest leaders must be the greatest servants. If a church structure mimics the world that would be wrong. The church structure should lead in service and be the example for politicians. If a politician wants to be first he/she should be serving their people not their own aspirations. Jesus is the example.

Matthew 20:28 G5618 As G3588 the G5207 son G3588   G444 of man G3756 did not G2064 come G1247 to be served, G235 but G1247 to serve, G2532 and G1325 to give G3588   G5590 his life G1473   G3083 as a ransom G473 instead of G4183 many.

λύτρον

lutron loo'-tron From G3089; something to loosen with, that is, a redemption price (figuratively atonement) KJV Usage: ransom.

Jesus tells his disciples that he came to give his life as a ransom instead of many giving their lives as a ransom often or over and over. Just as bulls and goats were sacrificed for men under the old covenant, men would not have to sacrifice their own lives because Jesus was the precious, valuable, ransom that released us from enslavement. Notice what Hebrews tells us.

Heb 9:11 (ISV) But when the Messiah came as a high priest of the good things that have come, he went through the greater and more perfect tent that was not made by human hands and that is not a part of this creation.

Heb 9:12  Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with his own blood he went into the Most Holy Place once for all and secured our eternal redemption.

Heb 9:13  For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are unclean purifies them physically,

Heb 9:14  how much more will the blood of the Messiah, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead actions so that we may serve the living God!

Heb 9:15  This is why the Messiah is the mediator of a new covenant; so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance promised them, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the offenses committed under the first covenant.

Verse 15 in the ABP helps us understand the release by ransom.

Hebrews 9:15 G2532 And G1223 because of G3778 this G1242 [4covenant G2537 3of a new G3316 2mediator G1510.2.3 1he is], G3704 so that G2288 death G1096 having taken place, G1519 for G629 the release by ransom G3588 for the G1909 [2unto G3588 3the G4413 4first G1242 5covenant G3847 1violations], G3588 [4of the G1860 5promise G2983 3should receive G3588 1 so the ones G2564 2having been called] G3588 of the G166 eternal G2817 inheritance.

Jesus’ blood was an atonement from the violations of the old covenant. If Jesus’ blood atoned once for all from the violations or transgressions under the old covenant, why would anyone want to practice the old covenant and deny Jesus’ precious and valuable atonement? The false prophets and false teachers are rewarded by Satanas for making people deny Jesus’ blood redemption in favor of works.

Heb 10:10 (ISV) By God's will we have been sanctified once and for all through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus, the Messiah.

Heb 10:11  Day after day every priest stands and repeatedly offers the same sacrifices that can never take away sins.

Heb 10:12  But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, "he sat down at the right hand of God."

Heb 10:13  Since that time, he has been waiting for his enemies to be made a footstool for his feet.

Heb 10:14  For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

Heb 10:15  The Holy Spirit also assures us of this, for he said:

Heb 10:16  "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws in their hearts and will write them on their minds,

Heb 10:17  and I will never again remember their sins and their lawless deeds."

Heb 10:18  Now where there is forgiveness of these sins, there is no longer any offering for sin.

Jesus completed the requirement of every priest and every sacrifice making us perfect. He bought us. He paid our ransom. Paul explains that Jesus bought us up.

Galatians 3:11 G3754 But that G1161   G1722 by G3551 law G3762 no one G1344 is being justified G3844 with G3588   G2316 God G1212 is manifest; G3754 for it says, G3588 The G1342 just G1537 [2of G4102 3belief G2198 1shall live].

No one is justified by the law but the just live by faith/belief. The law is not of faith but observance, then those who live by observance can only live apart from faith. This is a curse.

ἐξαγοράζω

exagorazō ex-ag-or-ad'-zo From G1537 and G59; to buy up, that is, ransom; figuratively to rescue from loss (improve opportunity) KJV Usage: redeem.

Jesus walked onto the earth and purchased us all up, away from Satanas. We were purchased away from the curse of the law. Jesus rescued us by paying our ransom, we are not bound to the law, but we live by faith. All nations now receive the blessing of Abraham in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:14 G2443 that G1519 to G3588 the G1484 nations G3588 the G2129 blessing G3588   G* of Abraham G1096 should take place G1722 in G5547 Christ G* Jesus, G2443 that G3588 the G1860 promise G3588 of the G4151 spirit G2983 we should receive G1223 through G3588 the G4102 belief.

How do we receive the promise of the Spirit? Through belief, faith, confidence, fidelity. What is required of us? To believe Jesus bought us. Remember our righteousness is revealed from out of credence into fidelity or from acceptance to loyalty, the just live by persuasion. Paul explains further.

Galatians 4:4 G3753 But when G1161   G2064 came G3588 the G4138 fullness G3588 of the G5550 time, G1821 God sent forth G3588   G2316   G3588   G5207 his son, G1473   G1096 being born G1537 of G1135 a woman, G1096 being born G5259 under G3551 law,

5 G2443 that G3588 the ones G5259 under G3551 law G1805 he should buy back, G2443 that G3588 the G5206 adoption G618 we should accept.

Mary birthed Jesus under the law. The Elohim called this the fullness of the time or the completion of the season. When the prophecy was activated, Jesus was born under the law so that he could buy back those under the law. The completion of the season also for those believing on Jesus to be adopted. No longer did Satanas have a right to enslave us.

Galatians 4:6 G3754 But because G1161   G1510.2.5 you are G5207 sons, G1821 God sent out G3588   G2316   G3588 the G4151 spirit G3588   G5207 of his son G1473   G1519 in G3588   G2588 your hearts, G1473   G2896 crying out, G5 Abba G3588   G3962 father.

  7 G5620 So that G3765 no longer G1510.2.2 are you G1401 a bondman, G235 but G5207 a son; G1487 and if G1161   G5207 a son, G2532 also G2818 an heir G2316 of God G1223 through G5547 Christ

Now we are sons with the Holy Spirit in our heart. We are no longer bonded slaves but sons of the Most High God. We are heirs through Jesus Christ. If we think about this, what kind of gifts can we give that could ever compare? The only thing we can do is give the gift of the knowledge that Jesus paid our ransom with His own blood. That is a gift worth giving. If Jesus came to buy us back from Satanas then we should wake up and make use of the time.

Ephesians 5:14 G1352 Therefore G3004 he says, G1453 Arise, G3588 O G2518 sleeping one, G2532 and G450 rise up G1537 from G3588 the G3498 dead! G2532 and G2017 [3shall shine upon G1473 4you G3588 1the G5547 2Christ].

  15 G991 Take heed G3767 then G4459 how G199 exactly G4043 you walk! G3361 not G5613 as G781 unwise, G235 but G5613 as G4680 wise,

  16 G1805 buying back G3588 the G2540 time, G3754 for G3588 the G2250 days G4190 are wicked. G1510.2.6

  17 G1223 On account of G3778 this G3361 do not G1096 become G878 fools, G235 but G4920 be perceiving G5100 what G3588 the G2307 will G3588 of the G2962 Lord is!

Paul suggests that we buy back the time because the days are wicked. Buy back the time. Buy back the opportunity, buy back the fitting season, buy back the occasion. We do the buying. We watch how we walk and buy up the season. What season? How about the season we live in, where we are saved by grace? We are to buy up others around us who have not heard that ultimately Jesus bought us, ransomed us, and saved us from the evil kidnapper.

Colossians 4:5 G1722 [2in G4678 3wisdom G4043 1Walk] G4314 to G3588 the ones G1854 outside! G3588 [2the G2540 3time G1805 1buying back],

  6 G3588   G3056 with your word G1473   G3842 at all times G1722 in G5484 favor, G217 [2with salt G741 1being seasoned], G1492 to know G4459 how G1163 it is necessary for you G1473   G1520 [3one G1538 2each G611 1to answer].

Paul also suggests that we walk in wisdom regarding those outside the church. Again buying up the season, or buying back the opportunity. We “buy up the occasion with our logos always in by reason of flavored salt” when we speak to others. The idea is that we add other herbs to the salt or round out our conversations with those who do not understand this subject. We may have to explain more to someone regarding Jesus so that they can come to the knowledge of Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. This is something that may take time, but once someone tastes the flavored salt of the Word of God they will want more.

Jesus buys up those who believe on Him who have the Holy Spirit in them, and we buy back others who have not heard this important information. When Jesus calls from the clouds and the dead in Christ rise first and the living join them in the air then we will be singing a song that states that Jesus bought us and redeemed us. We will sing about being made kings and priests. We have the honor of telling others about their future if they believe on Jesus. We have the seasoning for the salt to help others understand that Jesus loved them so fully and so completely that he paid the ultimate price for them. This is the best gift that we can give someone we love. We have a bit more to look at regarding our release by ransom and our redeemer for next week.

John 3:14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert [on a pole], so must [so it is necessary that] the Son of Man be lifted up [on the cross], [Num. 21:9.]

15 In order that everyone who believes in Him [who cleaves to Him, trusts Him, and relies on Him] may not perish, but have eternal life and [actually] live forever!

16 For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.

17 For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.
