Paul’s letter to the Colossians has so many positive ideas. Living in such a negative day and time we rarely understand this encouraging message. We are conditioned to believe the world view of the Bible instead of the Christ view of the Bible. The Christ view is the positive encouragement that we have to live in a negative world. And as Paul wrote, we are not under the rules and dogma of the elemental rulers of the cosmos, we live above and beyond the devil’s structure. If we understood this we would see more people rising up and walking, we would see more evil politicians blinded for a season, we would see people who were spiritually burdened set free. Paul told us to put on the new man, a new spiritual nature. Once we have chosen Jesus as our Lord and Savior, believing Jesus died and rose up, we are on the path to eternal life. We find Paul telling us about being chosen and we will look at what we are chosen to do. He also gives us some great character building suggestions. Considering that all those who believe Jesus died and rose up are one in Christ, Paul then suggests how we can live in peace. He also suggests to invoke the name of the Lord.

Clothe yourselves as selected of God, with sacred love, compassion, mercy, moral excellence, a humble mind, meekness, and patience. As selected of God. This idea of selected is not selected for salvation, Paul is speaking beyond salvation. Paul is speaking of being chosen, as in special assignments and rewards. Jesus taught us that the overcomer receives rewards, as he declares in his seven letters to the seven churches. If we live the way that Paul is suggesting, there are further benefits to us. But there are also benefits to those that we interact with. We may be the only person who can reach another; offering the good news or ministering to them for healing. This is good news. We are not forgotten when we treat others with compassion or patience. When we love others with sacred love we are showing them a glimpse of the love that the Father and our Savior Jesus Christ have for them. We are imperfect, but we are also filled with Christ in us. We might be the only connection that someone else has to Christ. We are chosen for someone else's benefit.
We have to explore this idea of chosen. Is there such a thing as some people being chosen, some people being predestined, and some people not being chosen or predestined? Entire denominations have taken up positions on an erroneous, misinformed idea. Paul explains that we are chosen by lot. What? Is Jesus gambling?

Paul is speaking of the mystery. A few weeks ago we studied that it is a mystery that Christ is in us, Colossians 1. Paul is explaining the mystery to the Ephesians.

The mystery of the dispensation/administration of the fullness of times is the gathering up, and presenting as a whole, all things in Christ. If he made all things, is the prototype of all things, is before all things, and is the Head of the Body, isn’t it logical that he would, in the fullness of times, gather up and present all things?

We know that we will be presented together after the harpazo. Therefore what Paul is pointing out is the time when all things will be gathered and presented.
Paul will now explain that those people who are gathered and presented at the fullness of times, will be people who were chosen by lot. Chosen by lot klēroō, is a very different thing compared to simply chosen, eklektos.

Chosen by lot suggests that Jesus throws out the offer of salvation, like rolling dice. Here is the offer for eternal life. The gamble is who will receive it? For Jesus, it is a gamble. For us it is a choice. We have a sure bet in choosing Jesus for eternal life. When we choose Jesus as Lord and Savior, our path for salvation is predetermined. Everyone receiving salvation is on the path to eternal life. How far and how fast we go is up to us. But to Jesus it was a gamble.
Think about the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man asked for Lazarus to be allowed to go and tell his family members about hades so that they would not end up in hades. Abraham told the rich man that his family members have Moses and the prophets, and even if one rose from the dead they would not believe. It’s a gamble. If people wouldn’t believe Moses and the prophets it was because they chose not to believe Moses and the prophets. If they saw someone rise from the dead they would not believe that either. They do the choosing according to their own will. Just for some perspective, the context that Jesus is explaining is that Lazarus was a well known beggar and the rich man was a Pharisee who loved fine clothes and foods. It is less desirable for rich people to believe on Jesus because they are comfortable like the Laodiceans.

The path to salvation for humanity was determined from before the world began. The way to salvation is by faith, believing that Jesus died and rose up on the third day. From that point we are on the path of eternal life.

Hold up and pardon others. If we have a complaint about another person, simply be reminded of what Jesus forgave us for. This is part of our new nature, clothing ourselves with our new spiritual internal man. The Pharisaical way was to make rules and laws for people to follow. The Christ way is to simply become gentle and introspective regarding grace. With that idea in mind, we have to recognize Jesus’ words regarding forgiveness, mercy, and judgment. These three things are measured back to us according to what we have shown others.
Being merciful and forgiving is not a condition for salvation. It is a condition for what we will receive as rewards. We don’t have any tranquility under the devil’s regime. The rebellious sons of God have created a world where humans are persecuted, used, abused, and silenced. There is continual upheaval socially, politically, and spiritually. However, we are to allow the peace of God to preside and arbitrate over our hearts. Peace should be noticeable in our heart. We should not have fear, anxiety, turmoil, and instability. We should instead have peace, and the peace in our heart should govern our heart. This is the Body of Christ that we were called into. Sacred songs, songs of celebration, chants, and spiritual songs are ways that we learn and correct ourselves. It is also the way that we build ourselves up in faith and love. We have a need for different types of songs when we are under spiritual attack. Spiritual songs are singing in our prayer language. We don’t need a band, a musical instrument, or a record deal, we simply need to sing.
What does singing do to the spiritual atmosphere around us? It drives the evil fallen sons of God away. They don’t like hearing the truth. They don’t want you to remind yourself of who you are in Christ. And they don’t want to be reminded of their own future as compared to your position in Christ. Once we really understand who we are and what we were created for, we will enjoy singing. There are some very important times that we see singing in the future. Let’s look at Ezra first.

Revelation 14:1-5 (KJV)

These are the 144,000 that are first sealed then later gathered up during the mid-point of the seven year tribulation. John tells us that those who are harpazo’d (gathered up) before the beginning of the tribulation will also sing a new song. The words are recorded to this song and as we have studied, the redeemed are the only ones who can sing this song.
Revelation 5:9-10 (KJV)
9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
The correct way in which this should read is: “Which are the prayers of saints that sing a new song, saying…” The only ones who can sing this song are humans who have been redeemed. No other beings are redeemed by the blood of Jesus. Angels are not redeemed, cherubim are not redeemed, animals are not redeemed, etc. The way in which these pronouns are changed randomly in various translations is due to the belief bias of the translators. In chapter 1 of Revelation, we see the same phraseology written by John at Jesus’ direction. In Revelation 5:8- 9 we also see added words and changed tenses. Jesus takes the scrolls. The beasts and elders present to Jesus vials of odors/incense which are the prayers of the saints. The saints have been watching Jesus enter the throne room and take the scroll, and they now sing a new song. It is new because it is the first time that the saints have been presented in heaven, coming from the earth or paradise. It is new because no other being can sing about being redeemed by the blood of Jesus. It is also new because these saints will be made kings and priests on the earth during the millennial kingdom. Therefore we sing, sing now, from deep within our hearts to the Lord. Sing psalms, sing hymns, sing spiritual odes from our heart to the Lord.

Everything we do in logos or in action encompasses all things. How do we speak and how do we act? We are to do all things in the name, character, and reputation of the Lord. Whose name should we do things in? Our name? The devil’s name? We do things in Jesus’ name and we have his authority. We have His name as our calling card. With His name we bring spiritual blessings, peace, and sacred love, rather than destruction, confusion and upheaval. When we speak and act in Jesus’ name, we then give thanks to the Father through Jesus.

As we have many things to be thankful for, we should consider some of Paul’s previous points in this letter. We are thankful for Christ’s plan for humanity, the entire reason he created us is to subdue the spiritual enemies. We can be thankful for the mystery of Christ in us. Our Lord kept it secret from the rebellious angels and demons as to how completely awesome we are with Him dwelling in us. We are thankful for our redemption. We are thankful for divine wisdom and knowledge and divine treasures. We are thankful for growing our roots in Christ. We are thankful that we are not subject to the devil’s rules and laws in the cosmos, in society, or in religious orders. We are thankful that all our debts are cancelled in Christ. We are thankful for true union in the Body of Christ with Jesus as the Head. We are thankful for thinking on the things above. We are thankful for a new spiritual nature. We are thankful for peace, harmony, and sacred songs to teach and remind ourselves of where we are and where we are going. We are simply thankful for Paul’s good news.
