Katara; The Kingly Priests; Bringing a Lawsuit; Psalms 9; Psalms 35

When Jesus taught the multitudes he told them to love their enemies and bless those that curse them. The teaching of imprecatory prayers is not for the multitudes. The multitudes have to grow into maturity before they can handle imprecations. Imprecations come with great responsibility. The intercessor who learns to use the power of the curse should be free from sin, a deep worshipper, and someone who has prepared in diligent study. Someone who accepted Jesus as Lord yesterday has a lot to learn before learning about imprecations. The multitudes are not always ready for this information. The multitudes must learn that there is an enemy first. To the multitudes, bless those who curse you. To the warriors and intercessors, use downward curses. We know that if we can curse then we can be cursed and we have to learn the keys from the Book of Job which Moses gave us for breaking the curse. The key is in the right hand, placed upon the devil, without looking at him or listening to him, using a logos of dunamis which is equal in power to him. We then go a step further, into the courts of heaven as David did, and argue our case. Once there we can receive the needed revelation in imprecatory power to war against the enemy. We are a nation of Kingly Priests and have every right to enter the courts of heaven. In fact, it is our job to protect and fight for the future kingdom.

As we saw last week, Job declared that if he had done anything wrong then he should be cursed. Job then lists a few things and the curse that he would pronounce upon himself.

Job 31:27 and if my heart was secretly deceived, and if I have laid my hand upon my mouth and kissed it: 28 let this also then be reckoned to me as the greatest iniquity: for I should have lied against the Lord Most High. 29 And if too I was glad at the fall of mine enemies, and mine heart said, Aha!

Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words

κατάρα

katara kat-ar'-ah From G2596 (intensive) and G685; imprecation, execration KJV Usage: curse (-d, -ing).

Job says if he had been glad at the fall of his enemies, cursed, and let his ears hear the downward curse thrusted out, but he is cursed under by the people mistreating him. We see that this sentence uses ἀρά twice, but only translates it once. We also see the word κατάρα meaning “downward curse”. Job is declaring his innocence, saying that if he rejoiced at the downfall of others then he should be cursed and that he should hear the downward curse spoken against him; but the people are cursing him under. Bringing a curse against someone from the courts of heaven is a downward curse. Job is talking about the curse which he believes that he is under is coming from people without a just cause. Job wants to hear the curse pronounced against him. He wants to know what he did wrong and who cursed him.

Job simply could not understand what was happening to him because he thought that Yahweh had already slain the apostate dragon, Job 26:13. Job did not realize that the dragon had not been slain yet. What Job needed was a word from Yahweh. The word of power, the logos of dunamis, is what we need. This is predicated on our own personal relationship with Yahweh. Job loved Yahweh and never cursed him, but he was willing to curse himself if he had done something wrong.

Today, in the courts of heaven we go in arguing our case for a dismissal of any curse against us because we have the blood of Jesus which adjudicates us from the debt of sin. We enter in and call for our advocate, the Holy Spirit, and for a hearing on the charge against us. If we are guilty we repent, we then invoke the blood of Jesus, to cover our sins. We can then bring a case against an enemy, we demand that all curses sent to us be reversed back on that enemy. We can do a lot more damage to the enemy from a position in the courts of heaven than we can any other way. We have to remember that the enemy curses us with downward curses, and demons fulfill those curses, riding out on those words. But when we invoke downward curses on our enemies, angels fulfill those words. An enemy may send demons our way, but we are sending them back to where they came from and an angel is taking them there.

Unlike Job, David had the opposite approach. He knew who was cursing him and wrote Psalm 109 as an entire curse back on them. This is a Psalm written “Into the Fulfillment” or “Into the End”, meaning the end of the age. We are to use this Psalm through to the end of the age. David knew that those who were cursing him were doing it to harm him, so instead of proclaiming his innocence he used the logos of dunamis, and his own right hand as Yahweh taught Job.

Psalm 109:17 G2532 And G25 he loved G2671 a curse, G2532 and G2240 it shall come G1473 to him; G2532 and G3756 he did not G2309 want G2129 a blessing, G2532 and G3118.2 it shall be far G575 from G1473 him.

“And loved downward curse and come to him and not desire good and it shall be far away from him.”

Kata, “downward”, and ara, “curse". David says that these sinners and deceitful people loved to call down curses, katara, and it shall hēkō, “arrive or be present” to him. David is saying that the very curses that the sinners called down for David will return to the sinners. Katara is invoking evil spirits to send the curses, the curses are then sent back to the one cursing. We do need to use this today. In verse six, David says “let the devil stand at his right hand”. If we used this Psalm as a guide we can see how to dismantle the power of the enemy which is working through people who harm us. In verse 8 David says “Let his days be few and may another take over”

1) to curse, doom, imprecate evil upon

Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words

καταράομαι

kataraomai kat-ar-ah'-om-ahee Middle voice from G2671; to execrate; by analogy to doom KJV Usage: curse.

“Call down curses upon themselves and you bless the rising up against me put to shame but your servant am glad”.

After they realize that the hand of Yahweh Elohim is bringing death on them and the devil is judging them, the sinners and deceivers will call down curses, invoking evil spirits, upon themselves. Yahweh will bless his people. The sinners and deceivers who stand against David will be put to shame and dishonored, but David will be cheerful and rejoice.

David was a giant slayer. He was on a mission to establish the nation, without any hinderance from the mixed tribes of the heirs of the Nephilim. David put the kingdom in a position so that Solomon could build the temple. David was fierce.

Downward curses are not always labeled as such, but are seen in the context. They are strong words condemning and demanding the demise of an enemy. Our enemies use curses liberally, but we have not understood the importance of downward curses. Downward connotes “from heaven to earth”, giving the direction from where the curse comes from. Notice how David demands for a trap to be brought upon the sinful.

David wrote a lot of psalms for us to use through to the end times.  Psalm 11 is “Into the End” meaning we can command the way David did through to the end or fulfillment of the age.

Psalms 11:5 G2962 The lord G1833 inquires diligently to G3588 the G1342 just G2532 and G3588 the G765 impious; G3588 but the one G1161   G25 loving G93 injustice G3404 detests G3588   G1438 his own G5590 soul.

“Yahweh examines the righteous and the ungodly but the loving unrighteousness hates his own breath”.

Yahweh does the examining not David, but David never asks Yahweh to set a trap he calls for a trap. There is a difference. It is up to the one praying to call for a trap, fire, brimstone, a big gale spirit.

Psalms 11:6 G1917.2 He shall rain G1909 [2upon G268 3sinners G3803 1snares]; G4442 fire G2532 and G2303 sulphur G2532 and G4151 [2wind G2616.6 1a gale] G3588 shall be the G3310 portion G3588   G4221 of their cup. G1473

“Rain trap on sinful fire and brimstone and a gale spirit the portion their cup”.

The words “He shall” do not appear in the text and are used to suggest by translators that Yahweh does the punishing, which is incorrect. The devil does the punishing in the case of a believer who sins, which is why Job was confused about his curse. The angels also bring the punishment, as per the logos of dunamis. Why is it up to the one praying to call the punishment? Because it is a word of power. David calls for the trap, the fire,  the brimstone, etc. Who implements it? The angels who are set to minister to the heirs of salvation, Hebrews 1:14. In other words, call for the hornets and the angels will send them, it’s their job. Here is the key for us: hear, do, keep, (verse 22) then you will be a Royal Priesthood and a holy nation. Yahweh Elohim is speaking to Moses here.

Exo 23:20 (Brenton) And, behold, I send my angel before thy face, that he may keep thee in the way, that he may bring thee into the land which I have prepared for thee.

Exo 23:21  Take heed to thyself and hearken to him, and disobey him not; for he will not give way to thee, for my name is on him.

Exo 23:22  If ye will indeed hear my voice, and if thou wilt do all the things I shall charge thee with, and keep my covenant, ye shall be to me a peculiar people above all nations, for the whole earth is mine; and ye shall be to me a royal priesthood, and a holy nation: these words shall ye speak to the children of Israel, If ye shall indeed hear my voice, and do all the things I shall tell thee, I will be an enemy to thine enemies, and an adversary to thine adversaries.

Exodus 2322 (LXX2012) If you will indeed hear my voice, and if you will do all the things I shall charge you with, and keep my covenant, you shall be to me a peculiar people above all nations, for the whole earth is mine; and you shall be to me a royal priesthood, and a holy nation: these words shall you speak to the children of Israel, If you shall indeed hear my voice, and do all the things I shall tell you, I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries

This verse is not translated correctly in most versions of the Bible. It is important to note that Peter is using this verse and Exodus 19:6 to explain our position as a Kingly Priesthood. David was a King. The redeemed are made kings and priests by Jesus’ blood. The word that is translated “royal” is basileios, meaning “kingly”. We are Kingly Priests of a holy nation, we are the redeemed. Our job as Kings is to protect the kingdom as David did.

Has anything changed for us today? No, Yahweh has made us a Kingly Priesthood and a holy nation. Royalty is in us because we are righteous and redeemed. Now that we know our position we need to walk in it because we were procured or purchased for this reason. We were not purchased to wallow and flounder, we were purchased to wage war as a King Priest for the Kingdom.

1 Peter 2:9 G1473 But you G1161   G1085 [2race G1588 1 are a chosen], G934 a royal G2406 priesthood, G1484 [2nation G39 1a holy], G2992 a people G1519 for G4047 procurement; G3704 so that G3588 [2the G703 3virtues G1804 1you should publish] G3588 of the one G1537 [2from out of G4655 3darkness G1473 1calling you] G2564   G1519 into G3588   G2298 his wonderful G1473   G5457 light.

We the redeemed are a people into procurement, or a purchased possession. If we follow Yahweh’s guidelines, we will become a Royal/Kingly Priesthood and a holy nation. We are not all from one nation, we are from many nations that come together under the title “redeemed”. The redeemed are a nation of Kings and Priests as Jesus told us in Revelation 1 and 5, as we were washed from our sins by his blood.

Let’s continue with Moses’ words from Yahweh and notice that the messenger angel is “he”.

Exodus 23:23 G4198 [3shall go G1063 1For G3588   G32 2my messenger] G1473   G2233 leading G1473 you; G2532 and G1521 he will bring G1473 you G4314 to G3588 the G* Amorite, G2532 and G* Hittite, G2532 and G* Perizzite, G2532 and G* Canaanite, G2532 and G* Gergesite, G2532 and G* Hivite, G2532 and G* Jebusite; G2532 and G1625.3 I will obliterate G1473 them.

  24 G3756 You shall not G4352 do obeisance to G3588   G2316 their gods, G1473   G3762.1 nor G3000 shall you serve G1473 to them. G3756 You shall not G4160 do G2596 according to G3588   G2041 their works; G1473   G235 but G2506 by demolition G2507 you shall demolish G1473 them, G2532 and G4937 by breaking G4937 you shall break G3588   G4739.1 their monuments. G1473

  25 G2532 And G3000 you shall serve G2962 to the lord G3588   G2316 your God; G1473   G2532 and G2127 I will bless G3588   G740 your bread, G1473   G2532 and G3588   G3631 your wine, G1473   G2532 and G3588   G5204 your water; G1473   G2532 and G654 I will turn G3119 infirmity G575 from G1473 you.

  26 G3756 It will not G1510.8.3 be G57.1 barren G3761 nor G4723 sterile G1909 upon G3588   G1093 your land; G1473   G3588 the G706 number G3588   G2250 of your days G1473   G378 I will fill up.

  27 G2532 And G3588 the G5401 fear G1473 of me G649 I will send G2233 leading before G1473 you; G2532 and G1839 I will startle G3956 all G3588 the G1484 nations G1519 into G3739 which G1473 you G1531 enter G1519 into G1473 them; G2532 and G1325 I will give over G3956 all G3588   G5227 your opponents G1473   G5435.7 unto exiles.

There are a lot of “I will’s” in the text that do not belong here; the translators made the section sound like it is all being done by Yahweh, as they do quite often. Instead, this is what the angel does. The angel is the “he”. The angel is doing the work, not Yahweh. The angel sends the wasps/hornets.

Exodus 23:28 G2532 And G649 I will send G3588 the G4969.4 swarms of wasps G4387 in front G1473 of you. G2532 And G1544 I will cast out G3588 the G* Amorites, G2532 and G3588 the G* Hivites, G2532 and G3588 the G* Canaanites, G2532 and G3588 the G* Hittites G575 from G1473 you.

“And send forth swarms of wasps before you and banish the Amorites and the Hivites and the Canaanites and the Hittites away from you”.

We then can demand that the angels bring the hornets against our enemies. What situations can you think of where this would be beneficial?

Exodus 23:29 G3756 I will not G1544 cast G1473 them G575 from G4383 your face G1473   G1722 in G1763 [2year G1520 1one], G2443 that G3361 [3should not become G1096   G3588 1the G1093 2land] G2048 wilderness, G2532 and G4183 many G1096 [2should happen G1909 3upon G1473 4you G3588   G2342 1wild beasts] G3588 in the G1093 land.

  30 G2596 According to G3397 little G3397 by little G1544 I will cast G1473 them G575 from G1473 you, G2193 until G302 whenever G837 you should grow G2532 and G2816 be heir to G3588 the G1093 land.

The enemies were not cast out all at once, but over time they were removed. The nation of Israel had to grow in numbers, but they also had to grow in maturity. Like us, if we endeavor to invoke imprecations without being mature then our life will get Biblical in a hurry. However, the righteous redeemed are the Royal Priesthood, the King Priests, and do have the ability to enter the courts of heaven and bring a suit against our enemies. David did.

We don’t ask Yahweh or the Elohim to do it for us, we command because we have the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy.

Luke 10:19 G2400 Behold, G1325 I give G1473 to you G3588 the G1849 authority G3588   G3961 to tread G1883 upon G3789 serpents G2532 and G4651 scorpions, G2532 and G1909 upon G3956 all G3588 the G1411 power G3588 of the G2190 enemy; G2532 and G3762 nothing G1473 [3you G3766.2 1in any way G91 2shall injure].

“Look I give the power of authority (exousia) to trample on the top snakes (ophis) and scorpion (skorpios) and upon every kind of power (dunamis) the hateful, and nothing in no way act unjustly towards you”.

One of the keys for us is to understand our authority and to have confidence in the power that we have been given.

There are many Psalms that are not under the category “Imprecatory Psalms” which are in fact imprecatory. We can see by David’s own words that he is calling for judgment on his enemies. He does this in the courts of the Lord. Understand our position. This is not a battle between the Elohim and the devil and the satan, it is a battle between us, the righteous redeemed Kingly Priesthood, and Darakōn and Satanas. Take them to court. If you do not bring suit they will continue to abuse the redeemed.

Psalms 9:0 G1519 To G3588 the G5056 director; G5228 for G3588 the G2931.1 private things G3588 of the G5207 son; G5568 a psalm G3588 to G* David.

“Into the fulfillment over the hidden son, song David”

The Psalm is written for the fulfillment or end telos, over, or on behalf of, the hidden son, male descendant. Who is the hidden son? Did David know and understand the Father and the Son? He certainly did. It wasn’t until after Jesus died and rose up that Jews started distorting the Bible to make it look like Jesus wasn’t the Messiah.

In this Psalm we see David take his case to Yahweh in the courts of the Lord. This too is a fierce Psalm. We will see that the translators added the word “You” which does not appear in the text.

Psalms 9:3 G1722 In G3588 the G654 turning G3588   G2190 of my enemy G1473   G1519 unto G3588 the G3694 rear, G770 they shall weaken G2532 and G622 be destroyed G575 from G4383 your face. G1473

“In the turn back my hateful into backwards, feeble and destroy utterly away from my face.”

David is calling for a judgment to be made against the hateful ones. He wants them turned around and backwards. He wants them feeble and utterly destroyed away from his own face. Yahweh will always see our enemies, no matter where they are. David on the other hand does not want to see them. In our vernacular he might say something like ‘get out of my face'.

Psalms 9:4 G3754 For G4160 you made G3588   G2920 my case G1473   G2532 and G3588   G1349 my cause. G1473   G2523 You sat G1909 upon G2362 the throne -- G3588 the one G2919 judging G1343 righteousness.

“Because make my divine judgment and my judicial hearing seated on throne judging righteousness.”

Yahweh is the one that David is speaking to. David says that he wants Yahweh to decide on a situation that David was facing. David is asking for judgment. Yahweh is waiting for us to ask for judgment. If we don’t ask, our enemies are not judged, even if our enemies always call for our judgment and we are judged. We have to learn to turn the tables, to be the first in the courts of heaven that are calling for Yahweh’s divine judgment. This should be intercession 101.

Notice what John heard in heaven when Drakōn and Satanas are cast down to earth.

Revelation 12:10 G2532 And G191 I heard G5456 [2voice G3173 1a great] G1722 in G3588 the G3772 heaven, G3004 saying, G737 Now G1096 is come G3588 the G4991 deliverance, G2532 and G3588 the G1411 power, G2532 and G3588 the G932 kingdom G3588   G2316 of our God, G1473   G2532 and G3588 the G1849 authority G3588   G5547 of his Christ; G3754 for G2598 [4was cast down G3588 1the G2725 2accuser G3588   G80 3of our brethren], G1473   G3588 the one G2723 accusing G1473 them G1799 before G3588   G2316 our God G1473   G2250 day G2532 and G3571 night

This event happens at the mid-point of the tribulation when Jesus is coronated as King over the kingdoms of the earth, Revelation 11. The accuser accuses us before the throne day and night. It seems like the heavenly courts are filled with accusations against us, when we should be overtaking the courts of heaven with accusations against the enemies of the righteous redeemed Kingly Priests. It is our position to demand judgment against those attacking the righteous. Church, we have to do this to subdue the enemy in our time. We have to rise up as fierce as David was. David even wants his enemies names wiped away, and calls for them to be censured.

Psalms 9:5 G2008 You reproached G1484 nations, G2532 and G622 [3perished G3588 1the G765 2impious]. G3588   G3686 [2his name G1473   G1813 1You wiped away] G1519 into G3588 the G165 eon, G2532 and G1519 into G3588 the G165 eon G3588 of the G165 eon.

“Censure ethnos and destroy utterly the profane and their name erase into the age the ages.”

David is demanding for the nations to be reprimanded and to utterly destroy the profane. Instead of them being remembered for their evil works, David is asking for their name to be erased from the age into the ages. Notice that David is not saying anything like ‘Yahweh their punishment is up to you’, but David is calling on what type of punishment they should have.

It is important for some people to make a name for themselves. We will remember some evil people for the evil that they have done. David is asking to erase these people from history, so that no one will know what evil deeds they did. Erasing people is better for future generations so that there are no copycat crimes. However, we then think that the evil we see today is all new; we should know that it is not. David is asking for the nations to be strongly disciplined, utterly destroyed, and then erased from history into the future. This is not a slap on the wrist, David wants them wiped out and painted over.

Psalms 9:6 G3588 [3of the G2190 4enemy G1587 5failed G3588 1The G4501 2broadswords] G1519 unto G5056 the end; G2532 and G4172 [2cities G2507 1you demolished]; G622 [2was destroyed G3588   G3422 1his memorial] G1473   G3326 with G2279 noise.

“The hateful fail utterly the scimitar into the fulfillment and city pull down destroy utterly their remembrance in the midst of a loud or confused noise.”

David now calls for the hateful to fail, always and forever, by the scimitar. A scimitar is a short blade or dagger, with the tip of the blade wider than the shaft, and this does more damage when being pulled out of someone than going in. This infers two things. One, the way that these hateful nations should be destroyed is by close contact with their enemy, so that they can see eye to eye with the one killing them. Two, the illusion of a small sword may at the moment of stabbing, give the idea that the hateful one might survive, until the blade is pulled out. This is how the hateful are to be murdered into the end of the ages. Jesus says that he comes to throw a dirk, a short bladed dagger, which sounds similar to what David is calling for.

The cities are to be pulled down, no buildings left standing. Then David says to utterly destroy any and all memories of them as the city collapses with a loud confused noise. We can imagine that David is probably thinking about how Jericho was overcome. Amid all the confusion of noise and smoke, people with scimitars were killing off the hateful.

Shouldn’t we pray like David? Jesus came with a sword to divide. David is calling for judgment on the divided hateful people.

Psalms 9:7 G2532 And G3588 the G2962 lord G1519 [2into G3588 3the G165 4eon G3306 1abides]. G2090 He prepared G1722 [2for G2920 3judgment G3588   G2362 1his throne]. G1473

“And Yahweh into the age abide, make ready in divine judgment your throne.”

David says that Yahweh abides throughout the age. David says to make ready divine judgment on Yahweh’s throne. David is expecting others to call on Yahweh to bring judgment. How many people were praying like David during David’s time? It is an interesting thought to ponder. We know that the number is probably very small, even today. We simply haven’t been taught to call on judgment with specific focus upon our enemies and the Yahweh rejecters.

Psalms 9:8 G2532 And G1473 he G2919 will judge G3588 the G3611 inhabitable world G1722 in G1343 righteousness. G2919 He shall judge G2992 peoples G1722 with G2118 uprightness.

“And he judge the dwelling in righteousness, judge people in uprightness.”

David is confident that Yahweh will judge fairly. He is sure that Yahweh will use an upright standard. What does that mean? If we notice, in our courts today judges can be unjust and/or bias. They may let someone off easy or unpunished and then sentence another person harshly. Yahweh is not like human judges, we can trust him.

Psalms 9:17 G654 Let [3be turned G3588 1the G268 2sinners] G1519 to G3588   G86 Hades! G3956 even all G3588 the G1484 nations G3588   G1950 forgetting G3588   G2316 God.

“Turn away the sinful into Hades, all the ethnos forget the Elohim.”

David calls on the courts of heaven to turn the sinful people into Hades, and the people who forget the Elohim. The judgment that David is calling for is in line with what Jesus said when he said that he didn’t come to throw peace, but to throw a sword for the purpose of dividing. There is a violent connotation to ballō, “cast” or “throw”, in the sense that Jesus coming to earth was not going to be all smiles, with popcorn and cotton candy. Like today’s politics, the hidden Son is polarizing and divisive in families. This is why David prays to eliminate the sinners and Yahweh rejecters into Hades. Conversely, David is sure of his place in death, and that he will rise from the gates of death.

What we take away from Psalms 9 is that we are to bring our imprecations to the courts of heaven for judgment. When Paul used imprecations, he commanded blindness or he demanded deliverance to Satanas. Paul is an example of imprecations in critical moments. We are allowed to trample snakes and scorpions too. David wrote his imprecations for us to know what he was praying and how he was praying. David didn’t have a lot of down-time as a giant slayer, but he did make the time to enter into the courts of the Lord to demand curses on his enemies. Many of David’s Psalms can be read out loud as a prayer, but we don’t need to pray exactly like David, we can take David’s ideas and use them in our time. Who are the enemies of Christ? Who are the enemies of righteousness? We are Kingly Priests protecting the Kingdom.

Psalms 6:  0 G1519 To G3588 the G5056 director G1722 in G5215 hymns; G5228 for G3588 the G3590 eighth; G5568 a psalm G3588 to G* David.

“Into the Fulfillment, in sacred song over eighth, Psalm the David”

Psalm 6:8 G868 Remove G575 from G1473 me G3956 all G3588 the ones G2038 working G3588   G458 lawlessness! G3754 For G1522 the lord heard G2962   G3588 the G5456 sound G3588   G2805 of my weeping. G1473

“Lead away from me every one working wickedness that hear Yahweh the sound my crying”

Sometimes we are in situations where we are heavily pressured. We go to the courts of the Lord, the Holy Spirit is our advocate, and we demand to know why a curse may be on us like Job. Then we can atone for our sin if we have any by the blood of Jesus. Next we can demand that everyone who is working wickedness be lead away from us.

Psalm 6:9 G191 The lord listened to G2962   G3588   G1162 my supplication. G1473   G2962 The lord G3588   G4335 [2my prayer G1473   G4327 1favorably received].

“Listen Yahweh my prayer Yahweh accepted my prayer”

Yahweh hears and knows what is happening and he needs us to litigate in the heavenly courts. We have to take the step to go before the heavenly courts. Satanas is not shy regarding his accusations against us, the Royal Priests, so we shouldn’t be shy as righteous redeemed Kingly Priests.

Psalm 6:10 G153 May they be put to shame G2532 and G5015 may they be disturbed -- G3956 all G3588   G2190 my enemies; G1473   G654 may they be turned back G2532 and G2617 put to shame G4970 exceedingly, G1223 even G5034 quickly.

“Be ashamed and agitated all my enemies turn away and downward shame exceedingly by means of swiftness”.

Now that David has audience in the heavenly courts, he demands that his enemies be ashamed, agitated, and turned away. He had every right to do this as he was doing what Yahweh wanted him to. He demands it all to happen quickly.

Psalm 35:0 G5568 A psalm G3588 to G* David.

  1 G1340.1 Adjudicate, G2962 O lord, G3588 the G91 ones wronging G1473 me! G4170 Wage war against G3588 the G4170 ones waging war against G1473 me!

“Yahweh assert judgment who act unjustly towards me. Contend who fight me”

Adjudicate means to “make a formal judgment”. Epidikázo, epi is “over”, dikaios, meaning “just or equitable” and krisis, “judgment or divine judgment” and is a derivative of dikaiokrisia meaning “just sentence or righteous judgment”. David is asking for over impartial righteous judgment over those who are acting unjustly towards him. He says to Yahweh “fight those fighting me”.

Psalm 35:4 G153 Let [4be ashamed G2532 5and G1788 6feel remorse G3588 1the G2212 2ones seeking G3588   G5590 3my soul]! G1473   G654 Let them be turned G1519 to G3588 the G3694 rear, G2532 and G2617 let [4be disgraced G3588 1the ones G3049 2considering G1473 3evils against me]! G2556

“Put to shame and turn to confusion those seeking my soul. Turn away backwards and downward shame those calculating wickedness”.

David uses this phrase later in this Psalm. He is not asking Yahweh if he would do this, David is calling to Yahweh to do it. Translators may have tried to soften David’s words, but really David is boldly demanding that his enemies be put to shame and be confused. He is not suggesting it, he is ordering it. Imagine David in a courtroom making his case.

David is declaring that his enemies be turned away backwards, he is calling for shame, kataischunō, from Yahweh to come on them. The word “let” is not in the text. It turns David’s words into a suggestion rather than a demand. This Psalm is not an “ask” it is a “command”. The demand is turning those people around and Yahweh pouring down shame on them.

Psalm 35:5 G1096 Let them become G5616 as G5522 dust G2596 according to G4383 the face G417 of the wind! G2532 and G32 an angel G2962 of the lord G1570.2 squeezing G1473 them.

“Become as dust coming down in the face of the wind and angel of Yahweh pressing them”

David is calling up to Yahweh that his enemies blow away like dust in the wind with an angel pushing them. Thinking about the vision that David is describing, imagine an angel pressing on a group of people as they blow away in the wind. Again “let” is not in the text, it is not an “ask”.

Psalm 35:6 G1096 Let [2become G3588   G3598 1their way] G1473   G4655 darkness G2532 and G3643.2 slippery! G2532 and G32 an angel G2962 of the lord G2614 pursuing G1473 them.

“Come into being, their road obscured and slippery, and angel of Yahweh hunting them”.

The idea that David is calling on is for his evil enemies to walk out on to a road that is really dark and slippery. Then as they are struggling to simply walk on the road the angel of Yahweh starts to hunt them. Think of the fear that would seize them as they try to run, something like running and hiding from the Nazgûl (Tolkien reference…).

Psalm 35:7 G3754 For G1431 without cause G2928 they hid G1473 [3against me G1312 2of corruption G3803 1their snare]; G1473   G3155 in folly G3679 they berate G3588   G5590 my soul. G1473

“Because freely they concealed a trap of destruction, vainly reproaching my soul”.

The reason that David is making these proclamations is because the evil ones set a hidden trap to defame David’s soul. They were doing everything in their power to smear David with hidden snares. Why did they hate David? Why do they hate the righteous redeemed Kingly Priests?

Psalm 35:8 G2064 Let there come G1473 to him G3803 a snare G3739 which G3756 he knows not! G1097   G2532 And G3588 the G2339 snare of the hunt G3739 which G2928 he hid, G4815 let it seize G1473 him! G2532 and G1722 in G3588 the G3803 same snare G4098 he shall fall G1722 in G1473 it.

“Come a trap on him, unknown, and the hunting which concealed, seize him and in the same trap fall into”.

In secret, David is reversing the trap onto his enemies, just as they tried to do to David. David commands for the trap to be moved in front of their feet. Imagine an angel of Yahweh hunting our enemies. There are twice as many warring angel armies than there are fallen angels.

The point we have to consider is that if we are among the mature in Christ, then we are ready to walk in our Royalty, our Kingly Priesthood. There are many righteous redeemed people who do not understand who they are. David was a King with entrance into the courts of Yahweh. As Kings we can throw down on enemies of the Kingdom. Bring the lawsuit and hold them to account in the heavenly courts. What do we do with demons? We ekballō throw out. We throw out the enemy with our words. We don’t ask pretty please, we command and demand. The safest place to invoke katara is in the presence of the heavenly courts. We have vicious enemies, yet we have  a way to fight back because we are becoming a nation of Kingly Priests.
