Young David had a meeting with Yahweh. This meeting sustained him for service to Yahweh through the rest of his life. When David was anointed king by Samuel, everyone knew that there would be a period of time before David took the throne. What people were expecting was that Yahweh would eliminate Saul in some way so that the seat would be open to David. Saul knew this as well, yet Saul tried to influence Yahweh’s plans with is own plans. We know that there were several times when David could have taken Saul’s life, but he did not because he realized that it would be interfering with Yahweh’s plan. David considered Saul his king until the day that Saul died. During the period of time between David’s anointing and Saul’s death we see David struggling to survive with many enemies around him. Saul was against David, Saul’s men were against David, the tribe of Benjamin was against David, the Philistines were against David, and the Israelites who had mixed with the Philistines were against David. David was one young man with the world against him. Yet Yahweh comes to meet with David. David has an experience that is similar to other people that we have studied, and David has a vision of the future, his future.
The order of events recorded may be a bit different than we realize. David was anointed to be the next king by Samuel. Saul becomes tormented by an evil spirit and his servants tell Saul to have someone come play music for him. Saul calls for David.
1Sa 16:22 And Saul sent to Jessae, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me, for he has found grace in my eyes.
1Sa 16:23 And it came to pass when the evil spirit was upon Saul, that David took his harp, and played with his hand: and Saul was refreshed, and it was well with him, and the evil spirit departed from him.
Saul knew that David was anointed as the next king so there might have been another reason to call on David. Before David killed Goliath, Saul wanted David to play music for him. When Israel went to war with the Philistines, David went back to his sheep. After this time, David kills Goliath. Now that David killed Goliath, David will also fight for Israel, and the people will sing about David.
1Sa 19:8 And there was again war against Saul; and David did valiantly, and fought against the Philistines, and smote them with a very great slaughter, and they fled from before him.
1Sa 19:9 And an evil spirit from God was upon Saul, and he was resting in his house, and a spear was in his hand, and David was playing on the harp with his hands.
1Sa 19:10 And Saul sought to smite David with the spear; and David withdrew suddenly from the presence of Saul; and he drove the spear into the wall; and David retreated and escaped.
1Sa 19:11 And it came to pass in that night, that Saul sent messengers to the house of David to watch him, in order to slay him in the morning; and Melchol David's wife told him, saying, Unless thou save thy life this night, to-morrow thou shalt be slain.
David gets a head start and runs to Naioth Ramah. Naioth means “dwellings”. Samuel started a school which had separate dwellings for the sons of the prophets. Jacob was a dweller in tents, meaning he served Yahweh in the tents at Shem and Eber’ school. Just as Elisha presided over a school of prophets and Elijah came out of Heshbon/Theshbon the city of Levites, there were communal schools teaching about Yahweh in various time periods in Israel. Shem had a school before the sons of Jacob went into Egypt. The Essenes/Nazarenes/Zedek Priests/Zadok Priests/Therapeutaes/Prophets finished up the age even after the destruction of the temple in 70 AD with their schools.
1 Samuel 19:18 G2532 And G* David G5343 fled, G2532 and G1295 was delivered, G2532 and G3854 comes G4314 to G* Samuel G1519 in G* Ramah. G2532 And G518 he reports G1473 to him G3956 all G3745 as much as G4160 [2did G1473 3to him G* 1Saul]. G2532 And G4198 [4went G* 1Samuel G2532 2and G* 3David] G2532 and G2523 stayed G1722 in G* Naioth G1722 in G* Ramah.
19 G2532 And G518 it was reported G3588 G* to Saul, G3004 saying, G2400 Behold, G* David G1722 is in G* Naioth G1722 in G* Ramah.
David went to Samuel’s school of the prophets to report to Samuel what Saul was doing. He was probably also questioning why he was anointed king, as Saul was hunting him. Saul was out of his mind and being driven by demons.
1 Samuel 19:20 G2532 And G649 Saul sent G* G32 messengers G2983 to take G3588 G* David. G2532 And G2064 coming G1492 they saw G3588 the G1577 assembly G3588 of the G4396 prophets G3588 G4395 prophesying, G2532 and G* Samuel G2476 stood G2525 ordained G1909 over G1473 them. G2532 And G1096 [3became G1909 4upon G3588 5the G32 6messengers G* 7of Saul G4151 1spirit G2316 2of God], G2532 and G4395 they prophesied, G2532 even G1473 they.
The word for assembly here is not “synagogue”, but ekklēsia. Samuel had an ekklēsia of prophets, a church of prophets. Samuel could not pass spiritual authority down to his family as his sons were corrupt. Samuel, instead of trying to fix his corrupt sons, started a church for people who wanted to serve Yahweh. The ekklēsia of prophētēs were prophēteuō, and Samuel was designated kathistēmi, over them. The idea is not that Samuel was standing while the other were sitting, Samuel was set up, histēmi, and “appointed over”, or “stands established over”, these prophets. When Saul’s messengers came to this school of prophets, the Spirit of the Elohim came on the messengers who then prophesied. What kind of a school is this that people coming near the dwellings start randomly prophesying? The conclusion is that the Spirit of the Elohim was very powerful in this place.
1 Samuel 19:21 G2532 And G518 it was reported G3588 G* to Saul, G2532 and G649 he sent G32 [2messengers G2087 1other], G2532 and G4395 they prophesied, G2532 even G1473 they. G2532 And G4369 Saul proceeded G* G649 to send G32 messengers G5154 a third time, G2532 and G4395 they prophesied -- G2532 even G1473 they.
Saul sent two more groups of messengers, but the same thing happened, they started prophesying. Something else must have taken place with these messengers. There must have been some type of change in them or something that rendered them useless for the task that Saul had sent them for. They were supposed to take David but they couldn’t. It is as if they were unable to do anything other than prophesy. This is why Saul sent a second group and then a third group. The three groups of messengers were unable to take David. After the three groups of messengers could not take David, David probably left the area. Saul thought that whatever held back his messengers would not hold him back. Obviously the Holy Spirit held back Saul’s three groups of messengers, but Saul was in for a surprise.
1 Samuel 19:22 G2532 And G2373 [2was enraged G3709 3in anger G* 1Saul], G2532 and G4198 went G2532 even G1473 himself G1519 unto G* Ramah. G2532 And G2064 he comes G2193 unto G5421 well G3588 of the G257 threshing-floor G3588 of the one G1722 in G3588 G* Sechu. G2532 And G2065 he asked G2532 and G2036 said, G4226 Where are G* Samuel G2532 and G* David? G2532 And G2036 they said, G2400 Behold, G1722 in G* Naioth G1722 in G* Ramah.
The three groups of messengers that Saul sent to take David provoked or impassioned Saul with wrath. Think about this, Saul knew that his family would not reign as kings, and Saul knew that David was going to become king, yet Saul thinks that he can go beyond the prophecies of the Elohim to take matters into his own hands. Saul thinks that he is bigger than the Elohim. Saul thinks that he can command people to act against the will of the Elohim. Saul goes to Sechu, a place with a large cistern and a watchtower and asks where Samuel and David are.
1 Samuel 19:23 G2532 And G4198 he went G1564 from there G1519 into G* Naioth G1722 in G* Ramah. G2532 And G1096 there came G1909 upon G1473 him G4151 spirit G2316 of God. G2532 And G4198 he went G4198 going, G2532 and G4395 prophesied G2193 unto G3588 G2064 his coming G1473 G1519 unto G* Naioth G1722 in G* Ramah.
Saul goes to the school of the prophets and the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Elohim, came upon him. Saul traveled and journeyed, and prophesied until he came into Naioth in Ramah. Before Saul actually gets to the dwellings of the prophets at Ramah he is already prophesying. Saul is prophesying all the way from Sechu to Ramah. That should have been a clue for Saul that something was wrong. The Holy Spirit had a different plan.
1 Samuel 19:24 G2532 And G1562 he took off G3588 G2440 his clothes, G1473 G2532 and G4395 he prophesied G1799 before G* Samuel. G2532 And G4098 he fell G1131 naked G3650 [2entire G3588 G2250 3day G1565 1that], G2532 and G3650 [2entire G3588 G3571 3night G1565 1that]. G1223 Because of G3778 this G3004 they said, G1487 Is G2532 also G* Saul G1722 among G4396 the prophets?
Saul stripped off his clothing. Who knows why? He must have felt overpowered by the Holy Spirit as he continued to prophesy. We don’t know what Saul was saying, but he may have been prophesying about David becoming king. Saul fell down naked in the presence of Samuel. It would seem that Saul was less successful compared to the three bands of messengers sent before him. The interesting thing about being exposed before the Prophet, the man of the Elohim, is that the Holy Spirit was humiliating Saul. Saul didn’t change his attitude or his behavior after this event.
All day and night Saul was out of his own control, under the control of the Holy Spirit, while David got away. The Holy Spirit doesn’t usually incapacitate people, although blinding an evil person is not out of the realm of possibility. But in this case the anointed king had to get away. People mocked Saul after this, saying ‘is Saul in the prophets?’. It was like saying ‘is Saul joining the school of the prophets now?’. The people did not think much of Saul and they knew that Saul was not a prophet, but word got out that he was naked, lying on the floor and prophesying. One would think Saul would stop behaving badly, as the Holy Spirit was actually having to humiliate the king of Israel, but Saul didn’t get it.
Now imagine David. He was minding his own business, tending his father’s flocks and playing music to Yahweh in the fields at night by himself. One day his brothers call him home. When he gets there, a guy with a horn of oil pours it over his head. No discussions as to whether he wants to be king, just a decision that he would be the next king. Now Saul is trying to kill David, and David’s other enemies are trying to kill him as well. David did not make these enemies himself. These people became his enemies because he was chosen by Yahweh to lead Israel. These people hated David without cause. David runs to Samuel, trying to figure out if he did something wrong and why Saul was hunting him. The Spirit of the Elohim puts a barrier around David and no one can harm David. During this tumultuous time David meets Yahweh and then writes a song about it.
Psalm 18:0 G1519 To G3588 the G5056 director; G3588 to the G3816 servant G2962 of the lord; G3588 to G* David; G3739 what G2980 he spoke G3588 to the G2962 lord; G3588 the G3056 words G3588 G5603 of this ode, G3778 G1722 in G2250 the day G3739 in which G4506 [3rescued G1473 4him G3588 1the G2962 2 lord] G1537 from out of G5495 the hand G3956 of all G3588 G2190 his enemies, G1473 G2532 and G1537 from out of G5495 the hand G* of Saul. G2532 And G2036 he said;
This is a Psalm into the fulfillment, the end of the age, telos. David spoke these words when Yahweh delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, including Saul. David refers to himself as a “child servant”, so this tells us that the time was when David was young and not yet king.
Psalm 18:1 G25 I shall love G1473 you, G2962 O lord, G2479 of my strength. G1473
2 G2962 The lord G4733 is my firmament, G1473 G2532 and G2707.1 my refuge, G1473 G2532 and G4511.1 my rescuer. G1473 G3588 My God G2316 G1473 G998 is my helper, G1473 G2532 and G1679 I will hope G1909 upon G1473 him; G5231.5 my defender G1473 G2532 and G2768 horn G4991 of my deliverance, G1473 G2532 and G483.1 my shielder. G1473
“Yahweh my foundation and my downward escape and my deliverer, the Elohim my helper and hope on him, my defender and horn of my salvation and my perceiver.”
David starts out saying that Yahweh is his foundation. Yahweh was David’s foundation and object of David’s worship. Was there anyone else in all of Israel who simply praised and worshiped Yahweh as David did? This is why Yahweh brought a downward escape or an escape from heaven to earth for David. David was now confident that Yahweh watched over him. Keep in mind David says he had an escape from heaven.
Psalm 18:3 G134 In praising, G1941 I will call upon G3588 the G2962 lord; G2532 and G1537 from G3588 G2190 my enemies G1473 G4982 I shall be delivered.
“Praise call on the Yahweh and from out of my hateful enemy save.”
David called on Yahweh with praise. Praise is a very valuable tool in our warfare arsenal.
Psalm 18:4 G4023 [3compassed G1473 4me G5604 1Pangs G2288 2of death], G2532 and G5493 rushing streams G458 of lawlessness G1613 disturbed G1473 me.
David uses very colorful language here. He feels death embracing him. He feels the sinful coming after him. David had been anointed as king. He was not unaware of his future. Yet in this time of his life, being king did not seem like it would ever really happen. Imagine Samuel the prophet anointing David, and then instead of David being celebrated David was attacked by Saul, as well as the regular enemies of Israel. It does not look like Samuel’s prophecy would come to pass.
Psalm 18:5 G5604 Pangs G86 of Hades G4033 surrounded G1473 me; G4399 [3anticipated G1473 4me G3803 1snares G2288 2of death].
Hades was anticipating David’s arrival. How could that be if David was to be king? This is what was happening in the physical realm, but in the spiritual realm something else was going on.
Psalm 18:6 G2532 And G1722 in G3588 G2346 my being afflicted G1473 G1941 I called upon G3588 the G2962 lord, G2532 and G4314 to G3588 G2316 my God G1473 G2896 I cried out. G191 He heard G1537 [2from out of G3485 4temple G39 3his holy G1473 G5456 1my voice], G1473 G2532 and G3588 G2906 my cry G1473 G1799 before G1473 him G1525 shall enter G1519 into G3588 G3775 his ears. G1473
David invoked Yahweh Elohim. What else could he do? It was looking like Yahweh’s prophecy was not coming to pass. Is it possible to imagine ourselves in this position? We feel that Yahweh has given us a destiny, yet we are fighting all hell to get to it? Exactly.
Psalm 18:7 G2532 And G4531 it was shaken; G2532 and G1790 trembling G1096 took place G3588 on the G1093 earth; G2532 and G3588 the G2310 foundations G3588 of the G3735 mountains G5015 were disturbed G2532 and G4531 shaken; G3754 for G3710 [2was provoked to anger G1473 3by them G3588 G2316 1God].
The Elohim was provoked to anger by David’s enemies and by Saul. Saul used David in a few ways. First, Saul wanted David to soothe him with music, which were all praises to Yahweh. Then Saul allowed David to challenge Goliath. It worked out well for Israel, but then the Philistines were after David. Next, Saul wanted David to serve him with music again, and David did. Saul also gave his daughter to David to try to keep the kingdom in Saul’s family, but first David had to accept Saul’s challenge of Philistine foreskin. Saul was then using David as a son-in-law. Then Saul became increasingly jealous and attempted to murder David. Saul knew the prophecy that David would be king. Yahweh chose David because Saul lied and disobeyed Yahweh. Samuel told Saul that the kingdom was going to be removed from his house. So while Saul was using David to depopulate the Philistines, he was also scheming in other ways to kill David.
Remember when Saul tried to get David killed by sending David to gather foreskins of the Philistines that he had killed. Josephus records that David returned to Saul with six hundred foreskins, while other Bible versions say two hundred or one hundred foreskins. No matter, David had many foreskins for Saul, and Saul was not happy.

Because David invoked Yahweh Elohim, Yahweh came to help David. David records this as smoke, fire.
Psalm 18:8 G305 [2ascended G2586 1Smoke] G1722 in G3709 his anger, G1473 G2532 and G4442 fire G575 from G4383 in front G1473 of him. G2705.2 [2shall be ignited G440 1Coals]; G381 they were lit G575 by G1473 him.
9 G2532 And G2827 he leaned G3772 the heavens, G2532 and G2597 came down, G2532 and G1105 dimness G5259 was under G3588 G4228 his feet. G1473
David records Yahweh’s coming as Elijah, Elisha, and Ezekiel also experienced. We tend to think that David was writing allegorically, but instead he had a face to face meeting with Yahweh as Elijah and Abraham did.

ἐπιβαίνω
epibainō ep-ee-bah'ee-no From G1909 and the base of G939; to walk upon, that is, mount, ascend, embark, arrive KJV Usage: come (into), enter into, go aboard, sit upon, take ship.
“And boarded on cherubim and flew, flew on wings winds.”
The idea of mounting or boarding is that Yahweh stepped upon cherubim. The picture is that Yahweh boarded cherubim like boarding an airplane. Yahweh is coming to meet with David. Yahweh walked with Abraham as a friend, Yahweh met with Elijah, Ezekiel, Isaiah, and others as well. Yahweh is making the trip to earth to encourage David.
Ezekiel sees the Glory of the Lord, the Holy Spirit, leaving the temple. What came to earth was cherubim and ophanim to take the Glory away. Ezekiel describes these beings well. Similarly David sees Yahweh boarding the cherubim.
When Elijah describes his meeting with Yahweh on Horeb, there was a wind, a sonic boom, falling rocks that were crushed, and lightning. It was a big commotion.
Psalm 18:11 G2532 And G5087 he established G4655 darkness G613.1 for his concealment. G1473 G2945 Round about G1473 him G3588 G4633 was his tent; G1473 G4652 dark G5204 water G1722 in G3507 clouds G109 of air.
“And placed darkness occultic his circle he the his tent dark water in lower air.”
David sees something similar to Elijah and Ezekiel, which he describes as Yahweh riding something. There is darkness around the thing that Yahweh boards and it is an occultic or supernatural circle. The word αποκρυφήν literally translates “occult”, but could be understood as “supernatural”. It is a word that Samuel used, as well as Moses when writing the Book of Job. The circle has a tent or dwelling that looks like dark water in the lower air. We could understand this as out of the dark something mystic or supernatural that has an interior dwelling and it radiates heat waves that look like water moving in the lower air.

“Away from the shaking before the face of him the clouds pass through hail and burning coals fire.”
David sees the entire heavens reacting to Yahweh’s coming.
Psalm 18:13 G2532 And G1026.2 [2thundered G1537 3from out of G3772 4heaven G2962 1 the lord], G2532 and G3588 the G5310 highest G1325 uttered G5456 his voice. G1473
“And Yahweh from out of heavens thunders and the Highest gives his sound.”
Yahweh sounds like thunder, and he speaks to David.
Psalm 18:14 G2532 And G1821 he sent out G956 arrows, G2532 and G4650 dispersed G1473 them; G2532 and G796 [2lightnings G4129 1he multiplied], G2532 and G4928.4 disturbed them. G1473
“And send forth jacio/missles/javelins and scatter them and multiply flash of lightning and disturbed them."
When Yahweh came he scattered David’s enemies. He scattered evil spirits and principalities as well. There might have been some type of lightning shooting towards David’s enemies on the ground that kept them away from David. It may have seemed as if David had a large army with him.
Psalm 18:15 G2532 And G3708 appeared G3588 the G4077 springs G3588 G5204 of waters; G2532 and G343 [5were uncovered G3588 1the G2310 2foundations G3588 3of the G3611 4inhabitable world] G575 from G2008.1 your reproach, G1473 G2962 O lord, G575 from G1708.2 the blasting G4151 breath G3709 of your anger. G1473
“And look upon the fountains the water and the foundation stone occupy unveiled away from your appreciation Yahweh away from inspiration Spirit your passion.”
Who was in the beginning, creating as an architect, alongside Yahweh? The Holy Spirit, Proverbs 8. David is seeing the fountains of the deep, the foundation stone. David is getting a download from Yahweh. David’s mind is taking in everything that is going on and now he is trying to describe it all. He sees the beginning. He sees creation of the heavens and the earth.
Psalm 18:16 G1821 He sent G1537 from G5311 the height, G2532 and G2983 he took G1473 me; G4355 he took me to himself G1473 G1537 from out of G5204 [2waters G4183 1many].
“Despatch from out of elevation, and received me, received me near from out of many waters.
David says that Yahweh came out of the heavens and received him, meaning he took David up to him. Yahweh received David near. David mentioned a downward escape, meaning an escape from heaven to earth, in verse one, and here it is. Now we know what David meant. Now David knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that Yahweh will rescue him.
After traveling over four hundred miles south to meet with Yahweh on Horeb, Elijah traveled over four hundred miles north to do the things that Yahweh asked him to do. Elijah did not doubt that Yahweh would take him up. David did not doubt that Yahweh would always rescue him.
Psalm 18:17 G4506 He will rescue G1473 me G1537 from G2190 [3enemies G1473 1my G1415 2mighty], G2532 and G1537 from G3588 the ones G3404 detesting G1473 me; G3754 for G4732 they are more solidified G5228 than G1473 me.
18 G4399 They went before G1473 me G1722 in G2250 the day G2561 of my ill-treatment, G1473 G2532 and G1096 the lord became G2962 G496.5 my support. G1473
David is singing his experiences so that others will sing this song as well. This is how stories were told in the ancient days. David knows that his enemies were strengthened against him, and he received their ill-treatment or affliction. Imagine playing music for Saul and having a spear thrown at your head. That would be ill-treatment.
Psalm 18:19 G2532 And G1806 he brought G1473 me G1519 into G4116.1 an enlargement. G4506 He shall rescue G1473 me, G3754 for G2309 he wanted G1473 me.
The word πλατυσμόν, translated “enlargement” here is better translated as “platform”. Wherever David went, when Yahweh received David near, it was on a platform. David sings as to why Yahweh rescues him.
Psalm 18:20 G2532 And G467 [2shall recompense G1473 3to me G2962 1 the lord] G2596 according to G3588 G1343 my righteousness; G1473 G2532 even G2596 according to G3588 the G2511.1 cleanliness G3588 G5495 of my hands G1473 G467 he will recompense G1473 to me.
21 G3754 For G5442 I guarded G3588 the G3598 ways G2962 of the lord, G2532 and G3756 did not G764 impiously depart G575 from G3588 G2316 my God. G1473
22 G3754 For G3956 all G3588 G2917 his judgments G1473 G1799 are before G1473 me; G2532 and G3588 G1345 his ordinances G1473 G3756 did not G868 leave G575 from G1473 me.
23 G2532 And G1510.8.1 I will be G299 unblemished G3326 with G1473 him; G2532 and G5442 I shall guard myself G575 from G3588 G458 my lawlessness. G1473
24 G2532 And G467 [2shall recompense G1473 3to me G2962 1 the lord] G2596 according to G3588 G1343 my righteousness, G1473 G2532 and G2596 according to G3588 the G2511.1 cleanliness G3588 G5495 of my hands G1473 G1799 before G3588 G3788 his eyes. G1473
David lived for Yahweh Elohim and he was righteous. Therefore Yahweh met with David to encourage him. This strengthened David for the rest of his life. David did become king, but it was a hard road getting there. It wasn’t easy.
Psalm 18:25 G3326 With G3741 the sacred G3741 you shall be sacred; G1510.8.2 G2532 and G3326 with G435 [2man G121 1 the innocent] G121 you shall be innocent; G1510.8.2

28 G3754 For G1473 you G5461 shall light G3088 my lamp, G1473 G2962 O lord G3588 G2316 my God; G1473 G5461 you shall lighten G3588 G4655 my darkness. G1473
29 G3754 For G1722 by G1473 you G4506 I shall be rescued G575 from G3986.2 the band of marauders; G2532 and G1722 by G3588 G2316 my God G1473 G5233 I shall pass over G5038 the wall.
David became courageous after meeting with Yahweh. If we remember, the Holy Spirit did not indwell all believers in the pre-Pentecost days. The Holy Spirit dwelt with holy men, prophets, and priests. However David was not technically holy, because he was a man of blood. David was righteous and innocent, but he was not clean due to his killing Philistines.
Psalm 18:30 G3588 G2316 My God -- G1473 G299 unblemished is G3588 G3598 his way. G1473 G3588 The G3051 oracles G2962 of the lord G4448 are tried by fire. G5231.5 He is a defender G1510.2.3 G3956 of all G3588 the ones G1679 hoping G1909 upon G1473 him.
31 G3754 For G5100 who G2316 is God G3926.1 besides G3588 the G2962 lord ? G2228 Or G5100 who G2316 is God G4133 besides G3588 G2316 our God? G1473
David wants to encourage others that Yahweh Elohim will defend us as well. We simply hope on Him.
Psalm 18:32 G3588 G2316 God G3588 is the G4024 one girding G1473 me G1411 with power, G2532 and G5087 makes G299 [2unblemished G3588 G3598 1my way]; G1473
33 G3588 the one G2675 readying G3588 G4228 my feet G1473 G5616 as G1643.1 a stag, G2532 and G1909 [3upon G3588 4the G5308 5high places G2476 1setting G1473 2me];
34 G1321 teaching G5495 my hands G1473 G1519 for G4171 war; G2532 and G5087 you made G5115 [2as the bow G5470 3of brass G3588 G1023 1my arms]; G1473
35 G2532 and G1325 you gave G1473 to me G5231.4 a shielding G4991 deliverance; G2532 and G3588 G1188 your right hand G1473 G482 takes hold of G1473 me; G2532 and G3588 G3809 your instruction G1473 G461 re-erects G1473 me G1519 unto G5056 the end; G2532 and G3588 G3809 your instruction G1473 G1473 itself G1473 teaches me. G1321
We see that Yahweh taught David how to be a smart solider. As long as David did what Yahweh told him to David was protected. David says that Yahweh’s training, paideia, straightens up David into the fulfillment, telos. Yahweh’s training prepares David for the end of the age. We know from David’s other writings that he knew he would be resurrected and not be left in the grave. David received all of this information during this meeting.
Psalm 18:36 G4115 You widened G3588 G1226.1 my footsteps G1473 G5270 underneath G1473 me, G2532 and G3756 [2weakened not G770 G3588 G2487 1my soles]. G1473
37 G2614 I shall pursue G3588 G2190 my enemies G1473 G2532 and G2638 overtake G1473 them; G2532 and G3756 I will not G654 return G2193 until G302 whenever G1587 they should cease.
38 G1570.2 I shall squeeze G1473 them, G2532 and G3766.2 in no way G1410 should they be able G2476 to stand; G4098 they shall fall G5259 under G3588 G4228 my feet. G1473
39 G2532 And G4024 you girded G1473 me G1411 in power G1519 for G4171 war; G4846.1 you bound hand and foot G3956 all G3588 the ones G1881 rising up G1909 against G1473 me G5270 underneath G1473 me.
David acknowledges that he does the earthly work and Yahweh helps him. David can run better because Yahweh helped him so that he could pursue his enemies.
Psalm 18:40 G2532 And G3588 G2190 [4of my enemies G1473 G1325 1you gave G1473 2to me G3577 3 the back]; G2532 and G3588 the ones G3404 detesting G1473 me G1842 you utterly destroyed.
41 G2896 They cried out G2532 [3and G3756 4there was no one G1510.7.3 G3588 G4982 5delivering G4314 1to G2962 2 the lord], G2532 and G3756 he did not G1522 hear G1473 them.
42 G2532 And G3016.1 I will make them as fine G1473 G5616 as G5522 dust G2596 against G4383 the face G417 of the wind; G5613 as G4081 mud G4113 in the squares G3001.2 I will grind G1473 them.
Even some of David’s enemies cried out to Yahweh. Who? Probably Saul, and his men. They cried out to Yahweh, but Yahweh was with David. Have you ever seen a situation where Christians became divided over someone? The Christians who went against Yahweh’s anointed cry out to Yahweh but Yahweh doesn’t listen. David didn’t look like Yahweh’s anointed. He was young. He was an intense warrior. He cut off at least one hundred foreskins to bring to Saul. Yahweh didn’t ask for David to do that, Saul did. David seemed like a wild, unclean young man. David was not the perfect politician. Saul stood very tall, he looked more stately and refined. Saul didn’t get his hands dirty, unlike David. Saul lived in opulence while David lived under the stars. Who would most people vote for if there was an election, Saul or David? But because people came against David, Yahweh’s anointed, those people ended up like dust in the wind, and Yahweh doesn’t hear them.
Now David talks of others who are not calling out to Yahweh.
Psalm 18:43 G4506 You shall rescue G1473 me G1537 from G485 a dispute G2992 of people; G2525 you shall place G1473 me G1519 at G2776 the head G1484 of nations; G2992 a people G3739 whom G3756 I knew not G1097 G1398 shall serve G1473 to me;
44 G1519 in G189 the hearing G5621 of the ear G5219 they obeyed me. G5207 [2sons G245 1Alien] G5574 lied G1473 to me.
45 G5207 [2sons G245 1Alien] G3822 grew old G2532 and G5559.8 became lame G575 from G3588 G5147 their paths. G1473
David will be the head of nations. David sees into the millennial reign. The nations will serve David. The first part of verse 44 belongs with the thoughts from verse 43. Verse 44 should be a new verse starting with “Alien sons”. The nations who are people that David did not know will serve and listen to David. The next sentence is about the alien sons.
The Alien sons are allotrios another of a different kind of uihos, descendent. The allotrios uihos lied, pseudomai. They became obsolete and got lost (not lame) away from their beaten path. The question is, who are the alien sons? There were many groups that could fit that description. One was the entire tribe of Benjamin which became a mixed tribe during the time of the Judges. There were also many Israelites who mixed with the Philistines. There are also the Philistines themselves. An aspect of this which we are seeing now are people who are the ruling class from heirs of the Philistines and who are being overcome by flying asps, as Isaiah prophesies. Because David is seeing into the future, where people from all nations serve him, he seems to be indicating that these another of a different kind of descendent, are going to be done away with in his own time. David did in fact make that happen. David nearly eradicated the Philistines.
Psalm 18:46 G2198 The lord lives, G2962 G2532 and G2128 blessed is G3588 G2316 God, G2532 and G5312 [4 is raised up high G3588 1the G2316 2God G3588 G4991 3of my deliverance]. G1473
David has a clearer understanding of his mission and of Yahweh Elohim.
Psalm 18:47 G3588 The G2316 God, G3588 the G1325 one granting G1557 acts of vengeance G1473 to me, G2532 and G5293 submitting G2992 peoples G5259 under G1473 me;
48 G3588 G4511.1 my rescuer G1473 G1537 from G2190 my enemies G1473 G3711 prone to anger. G575 [2from G3588 3the ones G1881 4rising up G1909 5against G1473 6me G5312 1You raised me up high]; G1473 G575 from G435 [2man G94 1 the unjust] G4506 you shall rescue G1473 me.
“The Elohim of the offering avenging me and subject to people under me, the my rystis from out of my hateful prone to anger raise up away from humans unrighteous rescue me.”
David acknowledges again that people will be subject under him. He is young and the situation that he is living under doesn’t seem to indicate that the prophecy will take place. However, notice that David had a bigger revelation of Yahweh as an Elohim of vengeance. David now understands that Yahweh will avenge and fully punish David’s enemies. Therefore David asks for the Elohim to rescue him. David doesn’t have to rescue himself. David only has to ask Yahweh to avenge him from the unrighteous.
Psalm 18:49 G1223 On account of G3778 this G1843 I shall make acknowledgment G1473 to you G1722 among G1484 the nations, G2962 O lord, G2532 and G3588 to G3686 your name G1473 G5567 I shall strum;
50 G3170 the one magnifying G3588 the G4991 deliverance G3588 of the G935 king; G2532 and G4160 appointing G1656 mercy G3588 to G5547 his anointed one, G1473 G3588 to G* David G2532 and G3588 to G4690 his seed G1473 G2193 unto G165 the eon.
David celebrates Yahweh with a great song. Why? Because he met with Yahweh and he understood that even though he was a young man he would be king and that Yahweh would help him with his calling. David started out with seemingly little aspiration. He seems to have enjoyed worshipping under the stars at night and protecting the family flocks. David did not need the aggravation of being king. He did what Yahweh asked. That is a big ask. Imagine being asked to rule over people who don’t really like you and where a good percentage of people acted as enemies toward you. We would tell Yahweh to forget about it. David did not. He did whatever Yahweh wanted. David went from minding his own business, to being the leader of everyone’s business. To encourage him, Yahweh came for a visit. David learned the secret to life, which is to praise and worship.
