John is giving us more backstory regarding Babylon. Because we are currently in the Babylon system we have a hard time understanding it. This is how the world has always worked. People adhere to Babylon’s system of commerce like a religion. Our churches have fallen into Babylon’s world system as well. Religious leaders living in wealth and opulence are no different than Pharisees living in wealth and opulence. Babylon has polluted our spiritual institutions the same way she polluted world commerce and societal design. Jesus Messiah’s millennial kingdom will be quite different. But today we are trapped under Babylon. The beast will rise up and kill off Babylon, meaning the people in charge of Babylon who are the money holders and the politicians. The rich world rulers will not escape the son of perdition. Babylon falls to the beast as her judgment is final from Yahweh and her sentencing has come. By this time the beast has set up his own monetary system and people will either live under his rule or die. This should not make us fear, but we should be grateful that the believers in Jesus Messiah are rescued first, the first fruits.

The angel lightens up the earth and cries “fall fall Babylon the great and become home of daimons and a prison of all unclean spirit and prison all unclean and detested bird”. When the angel speaks the fall of Babylon starts to take place. Daimons are evil spirits, demons.
As we looked at a few weeks ago, Babylon, the region, will become a desert wasteland during the Millennial Kingdom, where demons and wild animals will reside. Babylon is not a desert wasteland now, so we know that this has not happened yet. The area of wasteland will be roughly from Edom to Babylon, and north to Nineveh.

Wild beasts will howl and their noise will be very loud. Sirens are seducing spirits or winged creatures that lure sailors by their singing so that the sailors crash their ships on rocks. Demons will dance in a line; line dancing demons. Satyrs are drunk woodland gods, sometimes depicted with animal ears, tails, or horns. Hedgehogs are also called in Aramaic versions onocentaurs, while Hebrew generally translates hedgehogs as dragons. Other translations call hedgehogs owls or even jackals. The etymology of the word is a combination of hateful and viper. These are all evil physical and spiritual creatures that will live in this desert where we know Babylon is today. No one will live in this area or travel through it in the age, eon. The Arabians, and shepherds will not go there either. Just like Sodom and Gomorrah was eradicated, Babylon will also be turned upside down, katastrephō, except wild animals and demonic spirits will live there.
Isaiah also tells us that Edom is going to end up as burning pitch and sulphur. If we look at a map we will understand that the region from Babylon to Edom will be a place were weird animals and demons will live. As we can see in the Millennial Kingdom, demons are confined in this region, they do not have free reign over the earth.
Isaiah 34:8 For it is the day of judgment of the Lord, and the year of the recompence of Sion in judgment. 9 And her valleys shall be turned into pitch, and her land into sulphur; and her land shall be as pitch burning night and day; 10 and it shall never be quenched, and her smoke shall go up: it shall be made desolate throughout her generations, 11 and for a long time birds and hedgehogs, and ibises and ravens shall dwell in it: and the measuring line of desolation shall be cast over it, and satyrs shall dwell in it.
Here different birds live alongside the hedghogs/dragons and satyrs. No human rulers will live there because they have all been destroyed. The cities that were there will decay and woods and thorns will take over the buildings.

This area will also become the property of sirens and ostriches. Demons and satyrs will yell to each other and rest here. Hedgehogs/dragons will nest there too.
The earth saved the children with safety. The rulers are gone, the cities are destroyed, but the children who once lived there were saved and secure. The hinds or deer will herd together, and altogether they will not fight among themselves because the Lord commanded them and brought them together. The Lord will overthrow, epiballō, a portion of the land and distribute it as pasture so the hinds and deer will rest there for generations. Isaiah says the “region of Babylon” therefore we know where this region is.

Zephaniah adds the dimension north to Ninevah to give us three points on a map to recognize this desert region.

Now we can picture what the Lord is saying. The regions east of Israel will be a desert wasteland for demons and wild animals. Demons are not extinguished or removed from the earth yet. They are confined to certain places between Babylon, Edom, and north toward Nineveh. This is the way the Millennial Kingdom will be. The children of this area were saved, the Lord is a just King. The gentle deer and hinds that were in that area will come together in one big herd and the Lord will overthrow the area and divide it as pasture land for them, the Lord is a compassionate King. While it seems odd the wild beasts and demons will still have a place on earth there is a time and a place for their judgment.

Josephus explains what Nimrod did in Babylon that spread to the whole world. The first thing we notice is that Yahweh Elohim told the people to spread out over the world and multiply, but the people became afraid to move remotely as they could be overcome by other people. Nimrod created a system that provided security and people didn’t want to leave.
For twenty years Nimrod was a great hunter and warrior. He gathered people to fight. He also hired people to fight. He motivated people with positive words and promises of having their way with the people they captured. Nimrod created a hierarchy of warriors, he made an army. He then took the children of Japheth as security, making them servants. Nimrod did a lot of things that were firsts in his time therefore the people made him a king over them. Nimrod then set up a system of governance over the people. As we read from Josephus a few weeks ago, we can see why the people did not want to move away from this area where Nimrod was king, they felt protected and secure. There was a military and a government.
This is the start of the Babylon Emporium. The kingdom will take care of your needs. The kingdom will educate you and your children. The kingdom will protect you. This was the start of turning people away from Yahweh to follow a man who wore old animal skins. After twenty years as a regular man, Nimrod was elevated by men, and Nimrod believed his own press. Let’s remind ourselves of what Josephus told us.
Antiquities of the Jews 1:4:1 But they were so ill instructed that they did not obey God; for which reason they fell into calamities, and were made sensible, by experience, of what sin they had been guilty: for when they flourished with a numerous youth, God admonished them again to send out colonies; but they, imagining the prosperity they enjoyed was not derived from the favor of God, but supposing that their own power was the proper cause of the plentiful condition they were in, did not obey him. Nimrod put himself between Yahweh and the people, not as a spokesperson, but as a barrier. He then tyrannized people and made it socially unacceptable to look to Yahweh, or praise Yahweh. Nimrod was the first exporter of tyranny. By his example he taught others to rise up over people and dominate them. Then taught them to turn people away from Yahweh, and focus on themselves or other dumb idols. Meanwhile, as Nimrod did that, demons led people further away from Yahweh by enticing them to do other evil things.

With Nimrod taking people as slaves and allowing his people to do what they wanted with them, Nimrods system evolved into human trafficking as well.
People then built cities and certain individuals started to exalt themselves over and above all others. They started making weapons and fighting to overcome other cities. Then they started doing something else, they started selling male and female slaves.
Jubilees 11:2……and to build strong cities, and walls, and towers, and individuals (began) to exalt themselves above the nation, and to found the beginnings of kingdoms, and to go to war people against people, and nation against nation, and city against city, and all (began) to do evil, and to acquire arms, and to teach their sons war, and they began to capture cities, and to sell male and female slaves.
Nimrod took slaves as an insurance policy, but now the practice of making slaves of the enemy has expanded. These slaves were not simply cleaning house and cooking meals, they were used sexually as well. Human trafficking. Humans learned to dominate one another, making slaves of their enemies. Slaves have no rights and no freedoms. We see later under the laws that Moses was given that slaves were to have some rights and to be freed after a period of time, but durning this age, this was not the case.

Nimrod organized people into his kingdom. Nimrod made an army, a military to fight, and paid them with slaves for themselves to do as they pleased. People became separated from the Elohim when Nimrod made it shameful to attribute blessings received to the Elohim. Instead people attributed their blessings to their own hard work, skill, and ingenuity. Nimrod made the practice of slavery a business as well.
Now with a better understanding of Babylon and the system that infected the whole world we can see why Yahweh Elohim allows it to be judged by the beast, the son of perdition. The beast has spent the start of the tribulation preparing his own world system, one where he is in charge and uses tyranny to force people into his monetary system of taking his mark to buy and sell. The beasts numbers at this time are far greater than Babylon’s so Babylon really has no defense from the beast. The beast kills off Babylon and then takes people to war against the Elohim, just as Nimrod did at Babel. John is giving us this back story so that we understand what is taking place.

All nations and all kings committed harlotry with her. People made money off the harlots system.

Who are the “my people” that are being called to come out of Babylon? The Jews left on the earth at this time. The Jews are in Babylon’s system. The Elohim calls them out so they do not partake in her sins, but unfortunately today, many Jews excel in her system.

Double punishment is the judgment for bloodshed, for trafficking people, for enslaving and grooming everyone.

Many people live indulgently today, they do not think twice about it, while the majority of people on the earth are impoverished and barely scraping by. The queen sees nothing wrong with her opulence, but the Elohim does.
Our churches have become like Babylon, bigger buildings and properties, increased salaries and benefits for the staff. As long as they can continue to generate more income the religious leaders are happy. The struggling saints usually cannot get any financial relief or help unless they pay a regular tithe. If the staff members are caught in sinful behavior instead of addressing the person and the problem, sins are hidden for as long as they can hide them. While we think a church has a moral obligation to its congregants the religious leaders do not believe they do, just like the pharisees.

The kings of the earth weep for her. They had lived indulgently with her. Look who also weeps for her, the merchants. No one is buying their merchandise as the beast has his system in place.

This is why Babylon is called a “mother”, the merchandise is feminine. This is also understood from Ezekiel 28 regarding Satanas’ “trade”. This is Satanas’ influence on the world, starting with Nimrod, in Babylon. The merchant is masculine. The word merchandise here is gomos, which means “cargo or freight”. This is later understood in verse 17 as these merchants are on ships, and their freight or cargo is now worthless to them as the beast and his team will confiscate everything they can.

In understanding our timing here, after the harpazo in the first three and one half years of the tribulation, there probably will be a lot of cargo going out on ships to places with dense populations. There will be selling of humans as slave labor, or human sex slaves sold for the lusts of the elite. The mother of harlots turned people into commodities, even in the temple which had over four hundred years of male and female prostitution in booths in the temple. Human trafficking is a big business today.
These are the things they sold, including the bodies and souls of men. What is the merchandising of the soul? Wouldn’t that be the complete enticement away from Yahweh Elohim? Do people sell their own soul for riches, power, prestige? They do. They make a conscious decision to exchange their own soul for whatever they think Drakōn and Satanas can do for them. Isn’t that what Jesus was being tempted to do in the wilderness? Make a note of the next sentence.

The phrase autumn fruits describes late summer, the time between late July, August, and early September. It is the word opōra, meaning “even tide” or literally “late hour”. The late hour of the longing of your soul, breath life, departs from you, meaning that the things you sold your soul for, are gone, destroyed, and all of it was for nothing. Selling one's soul is a worthless endeavor because in a moment material things are all gone. The kings sold their souls, the merchants sold their souls, and everything they bet on has been destroyed.

There will be a center of money and commerce but it will probably not be in region of Babylon. The international banking and merchandizing center will be near an ocean. Think of large cities of commercial industry near the sea, as the ships with their goods stay far off. Look at a map of Christianity around the world and notice the places with the least amount of Christians. After the harpazo, wherever there are large populations of people, especially those immersed in Babylon today, is where you will find Babylon being destroyed by the beast. Babylon the region is not on the ocean. This has to be somewhere that boats will load and unload cargo.
We probably won’t know where this center of banking and commerce is until after the harpazo. That is when people and powers centralize according to population density. At the time of the harpazo the beast will be rising to power and by the mid-point in the tribulation will establish his monetary system. This means that three and one half years or so from the harpazo the beast will establish his system and then kill Babylon.

Today Christianity is being promoted as the most evil religion in the world. People are calling for the abolishment of Christianity in our nation. Churches are being burnt down and the arsonists are suspiciously not found. Christians are regularly martyred overseas. This is the Babylon system trying to gain control over the saints.

Babylon’s great men, megistanes, were the merchants emporos. The great men were satraps or governors, lords, noblemen, presidents, prime ministers, and magistrates. They are people who are leaders and rulers over others. By their sorcery, pharmakeia, they mislead all the nations. It is obvious by this time that they have rejected Jesus as Lord repeatedly and the beast is now the hammer of Yahweh Elohim’s judgment.
Knowing that we live under this corrupt system, the Babylon emporium, how should we behave? How should our churches function? We are in the world but not of the world, which means that wherever possible, we must do the opposite of the Babylon emporium. While we are consumers, the ones buying merchandise, we are also the product. Our political leaders and our church leaders look at us as a way to earn money. Not only do our stores geofence us, our churches do as well. Some churches receive money from foreign nations for geofencing congregants. We cannot avoid society, our jobs, and our church community, but we can attempt to not be bought and sold and not allow our overlords to buy and sell our souls.
We could rebel and simply leave our phones at home so no one tracks us. We should live meagerly and not lust over opulence. We should remember that once Jesus calls from the clouds everything on earth will be left on earth. This also means the friends and family that reject Jesus Christ our Lord will have some very difficult times unless they choose Jesus Messiah. Jesus now is far better than Jesus later.
