One of the mistakes we make in reading the Book of Revelation is that we read it like we read Isaiah or Ezekiel. We read those books as sections of prophecy, which are not chronological, surrounded by history. Instead John writes the Book of Revelation in chronological order. He uses some parenthetical sections to explain the back story, but the events that he describes are all in the order that they will occur. We as the church all have enemies. There is a time coming that will be worse than we can imagine. The Church (those who accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior believing he rose the third day) won’t be on the earth at the time that the two witnesses come to earth. The whole earth will hate these two men. These two men are sent to earth when the church is harpazo’d. They will be enemies of the entire world. We will look at their power and anointing, and we will see the place where they will be murdered. We will also note who is giving John this revelation.
What has just happened in the Revelation timeline? The seven thunders just spoke, but John was not allowed to tell us what the thunders said. John, instead of continuing on the timeline that he had been on, goes backward and tells us what is taking place behind the scenes. He eats a book and then tells us about the two witnesses.

Here we see that John is given some directions to measure the temple, but not the outer court. The outer court is given to the nations. Let’s think about that. Today we do not have a temple. But at this time there will be a temple in the holy city. When this temple is built the outer courts will be for the nations and the nations will treat the courts with insult and contempt. They will desecrate it. Understand, the temple will not have ever been truly holy when it is built at this time because it is not a commission from Yahweh. It is a commission of men. But there will be daily sacrifices.
At some point the son of perdition will waltz into the holy of holies and claim to be god, because he sat upon the ark and didn’t die. This tells us that the Spirit of the Lord is not residing there, neither is Yahweh. This will likely happen after, or about, the forty two month mark. Forty two months is three and one half years. This gives us our timing. The two witnesses will be on the earth prophesying for 1260 days, which is forty two months or three and one half years.
Revelation 11:3 G2532 And G1325 I will give G3588 to G1417 [2two G3144 3witnesses G1473 1my], G2532 and G4395 they shall prophesy G2250 [4days G5507 1a thousand G1250 2two hundred G1835 3sixty] G4016 wearing G4526 sackcloths.

These two witnesses are known figuratively as “two olive trees” and “two lamp-stands”. They stand before the face of the Lord. We find some understanding in the book of Zechariah. Zechariah is awakened by an angel and shown a vision. It is interesting that this was not a dream as Zechariah was sleeping, but he was awakened from sleep. The time period here is the rebuilding of the temple of Nehemiah after captivity.

This is a word of the Lord to Zerubbabel which we quote often.
Zechariah 4:6 G2532 And G611 he responded G2532 and G2036 said G4314 to G1473 me, G3004 saying, G3778 This is G3588 the G3056 word G2962 of the lord G4314 to G* Zerubbabel, G3004 saying, G3756 Not G1722 by G1411 [2power G3173 1great], G3761 nor G1722 by G2479 strength, G235 but G1722 by G4151 my spirit, G1473 G3004 says G2962 the lord G3841 almighty.
The Lord asks a question; he says “Who are you great mountain in front of the face of Zerubbabel to downward succeed?” In other words, the success of the mountain would be due to a spiritual downward feat or success. But Yahweh says it won’t happen.
Zechariah 4:7 G5100 Who G1510.2.2 are G1473 you G3588 G3735 [2mountain G3588 G3173 1great] G4253 before G4383 the face G* of Zerubbabel G3588 G2734.2 to set up? G2532 And G1627 I will bring forth G3588 the G3037 stone G3588 of the G2817 inheritance G2471 [2equaling G5484 3 my favor G5484 1of its favor]. G1473
Yahweh will carry out the stone, lithos, the Christ, the inheritance in fairness on account of his favor. Yahweh will see to Zerubbabel finishing the temple. He says that the seven eyes of the Lord are the ones looking upon all the earth and will rejoice when they see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. The building of the temple was hindered for sixteen years, not only due to enemies, but also because the people who came back to build the temple built their own houses first. There is a very important reason for the temple to be built at this time. This was the place that the scribes transcribed the Septuagint under the direction of the High Priest. This is the place that the Greeks recognized as a holy place and wanted to know about the religion of the Jews. The construction that Zerubbabel was doing would have a lasting impact on the world. Zechariah then asks about the two olive trees and the lamp stand. Here is our study from a previous blog.
These two men have an unlimited supply of anointing oil. They are like two olive trees that pour oil into the candlesticks so that the menorah will not go out. Let’s read from a previous study.
Zechariah told us in his prophecy of two trees; one on the right and one on the left of the candlestick. It is interesting to note that Zechariah asks a second time, as to an explanation of these two branches of olive trees. They are pouring and recycling the oil by funnels.

12 G2532 And G1905 I asked G1537 of G1208 a second time, G2532 and G2036 I said G4314 to G1473 him, G5100 What are G3588 the G1417 two G2798 branches G3588 of the G1636 olive trees, G3588 the ones G1722 by G3588 the G5495 handles G3588 of the G1417 two G3459.1 tubes G3588 G5552 of gold G3588 of the ones G2022 pouring G2532 and G1877 returning back G3588 the G1884.4 oil by funnels G3588 G5552 of gold?
13 G2532 And G2036 he spoke G4314 to G1473 me, G3004 saying, G3756 Do you know not G1492 G5100 what G1510.2.3 these are? G3778 G2532 And G2036 I said, G3780 No, G2962 O lord.
Look at verse 13. This should read a bit differently. The angel says don’t you perceive who they are? This is an awesome question. Zechariah had some benefits from his culture as to why he should have perceived who these two olive branches are. We have lost some of this knowledge in our day, but we can gain it back. What Zechariah should have known is who these olive trees, with unlimited power from the Holy Spirit, are. The two are called sons of fatness who stand beside the Lord of all the earth. First, let’s ask who is Lord of all the earth? Yahweh, also known as Jesus. There are two who stand on either side of Jesus. Who are they?
Zechariah 4:14 G2532 And G2036 he said, G3778 These G1510.2.6 are G3588 the G1417 two G5207 sons G3588 of G4096 fatness, G3936 they stand beside G3588 the G2962 lord G3956 of all G3588 the G1093 earth.
Sons of fatness. Zechariah should have known there were two in history who walked in such a great degree of holiness that they were taken off the earth. They were two anointed men. This history was more recent for Zechariah. The two branches are Enoch and Elijah. Enoch and Elijah are the two olive trees. They are the two witnesses. They will be the two lights during the first half of the tribulation.
Where are these two witnesses standing? Before the lord of the earth. Who is the Lord of the earth? When Enoch and Elijah come to earth, they will be the lights, fueled with an endless supply of oil to illuminate the people left on the earth.

The sons of fatness, or the sons of oiliness, are the two witnesses who will have unlimited powers on earth.
Who are the two witnesses? They are the only two people who still have their bodies and were taken up rather than dying on the earth. They will die on the earth at some point, but they have not died yet. Who were those two people? Elijah and Enoch. It is no wonder that they are wearing sackcloth, that is how they left the earth. They haven’t modernized their wardrobe. This will cause them to stand out among people. They will be noticed as different. Sackcloth can be mohair or camel hair, so we can imagine that these two men will have the attention of the entire world. Remember, the church is not on the earth but in heaven, yet there will still be people on the earth who will become believers during this time.
Revelation 11:5 G2532 And G1536 if anyone G1473 [3them G2309 1wants G91 2to injure], G4442 fire G1607 goes forth G1537 from out of G3588 G4750 their mouth, G1473 G2532 and G2719 it devours G3588 G2190 their enemies. G1473 G2532 And G1536 if anyone G2309 wants G1473 [2them G91 1to injure], G3779 thus G1163 must G1473 he G615 be killed.
If someone wants to behave unjustly towards Elijah and Enoch they will be consumed by fire. Pur is literal fire that proceeds out of their literal mouth. The fire will eat up their echthros, “hateful”, “hostile”, “enemies” until it is finished. Imagine Elijah and Enoch walking down a street at midnight, and someone tries to mug them. Elijah and Enoch will speak and the words that come out of their mouths will incinerate that person. Remember, they will be on the earth for three and one half years. There will be plenty of people attempting to prevent them from accomplishing their mission. Anyone who wants to injure them must be put to death.
How do we reconcile this? I hear the echo’s of those who reject Jesus as Lord, saying, “how can a loving God kill people?” We want to remember our time here. We live in an age of grace, a time where the satan rules the earth and sin occurs. Punishment is due to the satan and the devil judging the earth. The age changes when the saints are harpazo’d. We are holding back the sin and chaos of the tribulation period.
The first part of the tribulation during the first three and one half years is when the seals are being open. This is when peace is taken off the earth. Men begin to kill other men. Humans war and fight one another causing food shortages and inflation. This will be because of the departure of the church from the earth. If we think about this rationally, in the USA alone it is surveyed that 75% of the people claim they are Christians. If we look at that from a 30,000 ft view, we would see something close to only 1 in every 4 houses occupied. On your street, imagine what it would look like to have that many empty homes. That by itself would cause worldwide chaos everywhere except perhaps the middle east where the smallest percentage of the population is Christian.
The second part of the first three and one half years of the tribulation, after the seals are opened, the trumpet judgments start. This is when the earth starts to turn against the men remaining on the earth. Nature rises up and rebels against humans. Now imagine that Elijah and Enoch have the power and authority to direct the earth’s rainfall.
Revelation 11:6 G3778 These G2192 have G1849 authority G2808 to lock G3588 the G3772 heaven, G2443 that G3361 it should not G5205 [2rain G1026 1rain] G3588 the G2250 days G3588 G4394 of their prophecy. The days of Elijah and Enoch’s prophecy is three and one half years, or one thousand, two hundred, and sixty days. Not only will Elijah and Enoch have the power to keep it from raining, they will also turn the water, rivers, fountains, and pools into blood. They will strike or afflict the entire earth with every blow, stripe, or heavy affliction, as often as they want. Therefore in addition to the first six trumpets, Elijah and Enoch will add to the torment while they witness.
Trumpet judgments:
1 Hail, fire, mingled with blood
2 Mountain burning, cast into the sea,
a.1/3 of the sea becomes blood
b. 1/3 seal life dies
c. 1/3 ships are destroyed
3 Wormwood falls upon the earth
a. 1/3 of the rivers and fountains become bitter
b. men die because of bitter water
4 1/3 Sun, Moon, Stars smote, become dark
5 Star falls (angel with a key to the bottomless pit)
a. Apollyon/ Abaddon loosed
b. smoke darkens the sun
c. stinging locusts
6. Four Angels loosed from the Euphrates
a. slay 1/3 part of man
b. two hundred thousand horsemen loosed
The seventh trumpet comes a bit later. Add to the trumpets Elijah and Enoch causing calamities on the earth. This is an effort to gather as many people to the Lord as possible. They are witnessing with great power. We can see the job that Elijah and Enoch have, and how they are the most hated men on the earth. The two witnesses have gathered the 144,000 young virgin men who have been sealed by the angels to also witness during this time. They were sealed just before the multitudes of martyrs are seen. At the last seal the prayers of the saints are thrown to earth. During the last seal and the start of the trumpets, the 144,000 have joined Elijah and Enoch.
With every calamity people are either hating Elijah and Enoch or following them. When they are finished at the three and one half year mark, Apollyon/Abaddon will kill them. Remember they still have their bodies, they never died a physical death. Yahweh kept these two men for such a time as this. This is why they were translated and did not die long ago. They will die now.
Revelation 11:7 G2532 And G3752 whenever G5055 they should finish G3588 G3141 their witness, G1473 G3588 the G2342 beast, G3588 the one G305 ascending G1537 from out of G3588 the G12 abyss, G4160 will make G3326 [2with G1473 3them G4171 1war], G2532 and G3528 will overcome G1473 them, G2532 and G615 kill G1473 them.
When Elijah and Enoch have finished their evidence based testimony, the beast from the bottomless pit will battle with Elijah and Enoch. Apollyon is allowed to prevail over them and he will kill Elijah and Enoch.
Imagine what the earth will be like. The saints have been gone for three and one half years. There are murders, killings, lawlessness, there are natural disasters, and everyone is on edge. The witnesses lead many people to Yahweh, and as new believers they are martyred for their belief in Yahweh. Then the sealed 144,000 young virgin men follow along with the witnesses who are wearing animal hair clothes. More earth disasters, stinging locusts, and finally the beast of the bottomless pit kills the two witnesses. The whole world sees Elijah and Enoch killed.
Revelation 11:8 G2532 And G3588 G4430 their corpses will be G1473 G1909 upon G3588 the G4113 square G3588 of the G4172 [2city G3588 G3173 1great], G3748 which is G2564 [2called G4153 1spiritually] G* Sodom G2532 and G* Egypt, G3699 where G2532 even G3588 G2962 their Lord G1473 G4717 was crucified.
The bodies of Elijah and Enoch are left upon the public street in Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. Will their bodies be on the Via Dolorosa or near the Old City of Jerusalem? Or will they be near Golgotha and the Garden Tomb? One place that might fit that description is on Sultan Suleiman St, Sha’ar Shkhem Square which is the Damascus Gate, also known as the Shechem Gate. This is a place with a literal square on the edge of the Arab market in the Muslim Quarter. The Israelis call this ground zero for terror attacks as many Jews are killed here. This then would make sense as demonic entities usually congregate in the places of violence. Their bodies will be left on the square of the great city. Remember who is on the earth at this time, Jews, Muslims, and Jesus rejecters. Elijah’s and Enoch’s bodies are left in the square for three days.
Revelation 11:9 G2532 And G991 shall see G1537 of G3588 the G2992 peoples, G2532 and G5443 tribes, G2532 and G1100 languages, G2532 and G1484 nations, G3588 G4430 their corpses G1473 G2250 [2days G5140 1three] G2532 and G2255 a half. G2532 And G3588 G4430 their corpses G1473 G3756 they will not allow G863 G5087 to be put G1519 in G3418 a tomb.
The people of Israel, Jews and non Jews, the offshoot or races, the dialectic nations, and the ethnic groups, will all see the dead bodies of Elijah and Enoch. They will be in the square for three and one half days. This is a parallel to the three and one half years that they are on the earth. They will not be released to be put into a tomb. There is a tomb close by that is not in use, isn’t there? Certainly, but no one would allow Enoch and Elijah to be taken out of the square. Why? Remember all the weather related disasters that they had the authority to use against the people? The people will be rejoicing.
Revelation 11:10 G2532 And G3588 the ones G2730 dwelling G1909 upon G3588 the G1093 earth G5463 shall rejoice G1909 over G1473 them, G2532 and G2165 shall be glad; G2532 and G1435 [2gifts G3992 1they shall send] G240 to one another; G3754 for G3778 these, G3588 the G1417 two G4396 prophets G928 tormented G3588 the ones G2730 dwelling G1909 upon G3588 the G1093 earth.
The people on the earth will rejoice, they will celebrate. They will send presents to one another. Like Christmas? Whenever the saints are harpazo’d, Enoch and Elijah come down to earth and three and one half years after that they will die. Could they die around Christmas? If the saints leave earth three and one half years earlier in June, then it is possible that it will be December, three and one half years later, but we will not know the timing until the saints leave. Whenever Elijah and Enoch are murdered the people will send presents or gifts to each other because the earth was tormented for forty two months.
Let’s consider something here. There are two amazing saints who never died on the earth, but instead were translated to paradise. They abode there until this very time. Once again I can hear the voices of the Jesus rejectors saying “if God is such a loving God why would he want Enoch and Elijah killed”? It is a fair question. The answer is they really don’t die. They lose their bodies, but they do not cease to exist. We die and we are not non-existent. We can have eternal life and live forever unencumbered by a decaying body. Our bodies decay because of sin; our own and also due to the sin that is in the world. Our bodies are not necessary for our future. Jesus said we will be like the angels. Paul says we will have new bodies.
Last week we looked at humans being three parts, spirit, soul, and body. Our body is visible, but spirit and soul are not. We are not our body, we are our spirit. Whether we have a spirit of man or a renewed spirit of man with the Holy Spirit. We can live forever. Elijah and Enoch have their bodies; not because their bodies are a great prize, but because they will die in a spectacular fashion. They will have the attention of the entire world with their quirky clothes, miracle working powers, and 144,000 virgin males following them. They will be bringing the “last call” to the earth. It is actually their great honor to be a sacrifice for the people of the earth.
We don’t know all the things that Enoch did, but we have the writings of Enoch to enlighten us of his learning about the heavens and the other sons of God. We know that Elijah had a miracle contest with Jezebel’s prophets of Baal. At the time it hadn’t rained for three years. Elijah prophesied of Ahab and Jezebel’s demise and anointed new leaders. Why these men? Could it be that their hearts were more pure and sinless as compared to others? Isn’t it interesting that they will allow the Destroyer to kill them. Yes allow. They would both have enough power by themselves to rebuke the Devourer, Apollyon/Abaddon. But something important is going to happen in the heavens and their presence is required. Let’s continue.
Elijah and Enoch are going to surprise the world. The entire world will see them rise from the dead.
Revelation 11:11 G2532 And G3326 after G5140 three G2250 days G2532 and G2255 a half G4151 the breath G2222 of life G1537 from G3588 G2316 God G1525 entered G1909 unto G1473 them, G2532 and G2476 they stood G1909 upon G3588 G4228 their feet, G1473 G2532 and G5401 [2fear G3173 1great] G4098 fell G1909 upon G3588 the ones G2334 viewing G1473 them.
Three days and a half; again corresponding to their three and one half years on the earth; the Spirit, pneuma, of life, zōē, from the Elohim enter into them. Where were their spirits for three and one half days? Their spirits wouldn’t be in paradise, as the saints have cleared out of paradise and are in heaven. The martyrs are in heaven. So where were the spirits of Enoch and Elijah? Maybe they are witnessing in hades or more specifically in Abraham’s bay. Remember that Jesus has the keys at this time, so hades and Abraham’s bay are not controlled by the satan any longer. Are they witnessing to the people who were murdered on the earth during their 42 months? It is something to consider. There may be people who died after the harpazo who were not martyred but were simply killed or died of natural causes. They may get the opportunity to make Jesus their Lord.
Wherever the spirits of Elijah and Enoch were for three and one half days, their spirits enter into their bodies again and they stand up. For three days people have seen them, maybe on closed circuit cameras/traffic cameras, lying in the square at the Damascus Gate. Now everyone sees them stand up. Mega-Phobos, great fear falls or alights on those who see them. The fear causes people to either collapse or prostrate. This word piptō petō, is the same word that we see when we look at the angels prostrate or run from the wrath of the Lamb and the Father on the throne. Some people may prostrate and confess Jesus as their Lord, some may faint, some may run. Seeing Elijah and Enoch isn’t all that causes their mega-phobos, they hear a voice too.
Revelation 11:12 G2532 And G191 they heard G5456 [2voice G3173 1a great] G1537 from out of G3588 the G3772 heaven, G3004 saying G1473 to them, G305 Ascend G5602 here! G2532 And G305 they ascended G1519 into G3588 the G3772 heaven G1722 in G3588 the G3507 cloud; G2532 and G2334 [2viewed G1473 3them G3588 G2190 1their enemies]. G1473
There is a voice coming from heaven. This isn’t the first time unusual things are happening during the tribulation. People hear the voice say “come up here”. Imagine what those people are thinking. Elijah and Enoch just stood up and some voice is calling them to heaven. Elijah and Enoch rose up into a cloud. Their enemies, the ones who hated them, echthros, saw them. Remember these people are either prostrate, fainted, or running away.
Revelation 11:13 G2532 And G1722 in G1565 that G3588 G2250 day G1096 took place G4578 [2earthquake G3173 1a great], G2532 and G3588 the G1181 tenth G3588 of the G4172 city G4098 fell, G2532 and G615 there were killed G1722 in G3588 the G4578 earthquake G3686 the names G444 [3men G5505 2thousand G2033 1of seven]. G2532 And G3588 the G3062 rest G1719 [2thrown into fear G1096 1became], G2532 and G1325 gave G1391 glory G3588 to the G2316 God G3588 G3772 of heaven.
And there was a mega-seismos. One tenth of the city falls. What city? Maybe the Old City, since the square is right outside of the Old City of Jerusalem. Seven thousand manfaced die. We would all notice if seven thousand people die in one earthquake. Combining all these events, the standing up of two dead men who wear animal hair clothes, voices, and earthquakes, we can understand why people are either falling on their faces to worship Yahweh, running away, or fainting.
This is the event that Enoch and Elijah were called up to.
Revelation 11:15 G2532 And G3588 the G1442 seventh G32 angel G4537 trumped. G2532 And G1096 there were G5456 [2voices G3173 1great] G1722 in G3588 the G3772 heaven, G3004 saying, G1096 [5is become G3588 1The G932 2kingdom G3588 3of the G2889 4world] G3588 G2962 of our Lord, G1473 G2532 and G3588 G5547 of his Christ, G1473 G2532 and G936 he shall reign G1519 into G3588 the G165 eons G3588 of the G165 eons.
This is the ending of the Trumpet judgments. Elijah and Enoch are called up to partake in the next event, the coronation of Jesus as King and Lord. This is the announcement and the beginning of taking back the rulership of the earth, the most important event in all of our lives. This is the pivot point of all of time. The announcement is being made. Elijah and Enoch are invited to join the church and the martyrs in this important event. Why? Because the devil and the satan are about to be thrown out of the heavens to the earth. This is a day that all believers are waiting for. Jesus gives rewards to his people and then he will harpazo the 144,000 sealed virgin men. Then the bowl judgments begin. At the end of the Book of Revelation, we see something interesting. John is about to worship the being that he thinks is an angel. But the being is not an angel but a prophet.
John is overwhelmed by hearing and seeing this prophecy, so he falls at the angel’s feet to worship him. The angel shows or exposes John’s eyes to these events. But the angel says something interesting to John. He tells John he is a fellow servant. He says to worship God only.
Revelation 22:9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
The angel claims to be a co-servant, or a sundoulos, and that he is a brother of John’s as a prophet, and one who gives heed to the words of the scroll. This angel is a prophet. This angel is a servant. This angel heeds the words of this book. Who is this angel? First we must note that the word angel is not only a class of beings, but also means messenger, any messenger. That includes men. There are no angels who are prophets, and while angels are servants they do not serve in the ways that men serve.
We can narrow the field down to one of the two men who have their bodies and have not died yet, since prophets are human, and prophets heed the words of the book. The key is that this messenger heeds the words of this prophecy. Both Enoch and Elijah will heed the written words of this prophecy. All other prophets will be in heaven for the events of the Book of Revelation. But Enoch and Elijah will be on earth in the first three and one half years. They both will heed or pay attention to the words of this book. They will do what this prophecy says. This person is a fellow prophet, and a fellow servant.
Now if we think back to John who was on the mount of transfiguration with Jesus, James, and Peter, we remember that somehow Peter recognized the two figures speaking with Jesus as Moses and Elijah. This would tell us that John had already met Elijah or at least saw him and recognized him as Elijah. So it would seem that the one person, who is a messenger, that John didn’t identify from the mount of transfiguration would be Enoch. Enoch was a messenger for the people of earth He was an intercessor for some of the fallen angels. He also wrote 365 books of prophecy for humans before being taken up to heaven. Therefore it is possible for Enoch to be the messenger who was also one of the individuals with one of the seven bowls, who also was a prophet, a servant, and one who will heed the words of this prophecy when he comes to earth as a witness for three and one half years.
Now we can understand why this messenger says he is coming quickly. He is. He is coming back at the start of the tribulation for three and one half years. He then tells John not to seal the logos, the words.
Revelation 22:10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.
We see the two witnesses having power over the elements. They will be the enemies of the entire world. Everyone that is left on the planet at that time will hate Enoch and Elijah. They will dress in animal hair and torch those who attempt to harm them. They will unite the 144,000 virgin males and many will turn to Yahweh. It is the “last call”. Abaddon will kill them near the Damascus gate in the square, and then an earthquake will kill seven thousand in the old city. They are called up to heaven at the time that Jesus is coronated. Do not seal up the words of the Book of Revelation because the time is at hand.
