The Elect; the Coming of Jesus with His Called Chosen & Trustworthy; King Priests for the Day of the Lord

Enoch gives us some ideas about the Day of the Lord and the elect, but who are the elect? Are there more than one group of elect? Elect means “chosen”. One group is chosen for the New Heaven and New Earth, another group is chosen to come back with Jesus on the Day of the Lord. Who are these people and where are we now in time? Isaiah helps us to define the “elect of Israel”, as not all of Israel is the elect. Daniel gives us further insight into timing, and Matthew defines the other group of the elect, those who were invited to join the family. The first century disciples understood these ideas and it was not a mystery to them, but the 21st century disciples are thoroughly confused. We have lost the cohesiveness of the prophetic words the Holy Spirit gave us, but we can try to get some of this knowledge back and put events and timing in their proper order. This study will tell us where we are in prophetic time. Clearly we have good reason to believe we are nearing the end of this age of the Holy Spirit and on track for the millennial kingdom. Let’s start with Enoch’s parable.

BOOK OF ENOCH I-XXXVI I-V. Parable of Enoch on the Future Lot of the Wicked and the Righteous
CHAPTER I.
1. The words of the blessing of Enoch, wherewith he blessed the elect ⌈⌈and⌉⌉ righteous, who will be living in the day of tribulation, when all the wicked ⌈⌈and godless⌉⌉ are to be removed. 2. And he took up his parable and said--Enoch a righteous man, whose eyes were opened by God, saw the vision of the Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me, and from them I heard everything, and from them I understood as I saw, but not for this generation, but for a remote one which is for to come. 3. Concerning the elect I said, and took up my parable concerning them:
The Holy Great One will come forth from His dwelling,
4. And the eternal God will tread upon the earth, (even) on Mount Sinai,
And appear from His camp
And appear in the strength of His might from the heaven of heavens.
5. And all shall be smitten with fear
And the Watchers shall quake,
And great fear and trembling shall seize them unto the ends of the earth.
6. And the high mountains shall be shaken,
And the high hills shall be made low,
And shall melt like wax before the flame
7. And the earth shall be wholly rent in sunder,
And all that is upon the earth shall perish,
And there shall be a judgement upon all (men).
8. But with the righteous He will make peace.
And will protect the elect,
And mercy shall be upon them.
And they shall all belong to God,
And they shall be prospered,
And they shall
all be blessed.
And He will help them all,
And light shall appear unto them,
And He will make peace with them.
9. And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones
To execute judgement upon all,
And to destroy
all the ungodly:
And to convict all flesh
Of all the works
of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed,
And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners
have spoken against Him.

Enoch says that this will be such an event that even “the Watchers” will quake. The Watchers are sentinels, military angels and even they will be a little nervous. This is the Day of the Lord, the day he returns with his armies. Jude reiterates this.

Jude 14-15 It was of these people, moreover, that Enoch in the seventh [generation] from Adam prophesied when he said, Behold, the Lord comes with His myriads of holy ones (ten thousands of His saints) 15 To execute judgment upon all and to convict all the impious (unholy ones) of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed [in such an] ungodly [way], and of all the severe (abusive, jarring) things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him. AMP

The words choose, choice, and chose are used 109 times in the Old and New Testaments. Remember that the first century disciples read and wrote Greek, and the Septuagint is what was read in the synagogues. Therefore, when the first century disciples wrote, they wrote in regards to Greek words. That makes the Greek Septuagint and the Greek New Testament a cohesive unit for study. The same words appear in the Greek Old Testament and the Greek New Testament. Hebrew was not spoken or written since the time of the captivity. When the Hebrew language was revived in 300 AD, 600 years after the Septuagint was scribed, words were changed so that the words the first century writers quoted and associated with had become unrecognizable. This made the New Testament a separate work from the Old Testament Masoretic Text, but that was never the case.

NT:1588 eklektos (ek-lek-tos'); from NT:1586; select; by implication, favorite: KJV - chosen, elect. (Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Some people assume that all of Israel is the elect, but as we will see, as defined by Isaiah, all of Israel is not the elect/chosen. There are conditions for those who are chosen in that past administration. Just because one is born with a certain heritage that person is not automatically chosen. As we studied last week, we are chosen by lot, everyone gets the benefit of making the decision to accept Jesus as Lord, Savior, and Messiah, and it is like a crapshoot for Yahweh. He throws the knowledge out to humans via the Holy Spirit and some make that decision and some do not. Before the Holy Spirit came to seal those who believe on Jesus, people were only chosen according to their behaviors. That is not the administration we live in today. Today, the Holy Spirit seals all who believe, regardless of their behaviors. Then there are places and responsibilities people are chosen for, this according to their behaviors.

We saw last week that Jesus inherits the strong, and those people who believe on Jesus and are strong receive an inheritance. Isaiah says that the chosen inherit the holy mountains and will dwell there.

Isa 65:9 And I will bring forth an offspring from Jacob, and from Judah an inheritor of My mountains; My chosen and elect will inherit it, and My servants will dwell there.  AMP

Isaiah 65:9 G2532And G1806I shall lead out G3588the one G1537ofG*[2of Jacob G46901 the seed], G2532and G3588the one G1537of G*Judah. G2532And G2816he shall inherit G3588 G3735[3mountain G3588 G392holy G14731my], G2532and G2816[4shall inherit it G3588 G15881my chosen G1473 G25322and G3588 G14013my servants], G1473 G2532and G2730they shall dwell G1563there.

While some translations leave out the word holy, the Greek texts include the word holy. His chosen do not just inherit mountains to live in, they inherit holy mountains to live in. We can see the importance as to people inheriting something classified as holy as it sets these mountains apart from our earthly type of mountains. These holy mountains are for dwelling in the New Heavens and New Earth, as that is the context, Isaiah 65:25. Understand, before we get to the New Heaven and New Earth there is a logical progression of events. In fact, as we have studied, the disciples specifically asked about the end of the age when there would be a New Heaven and New Earth. Jesus, Paul, and John gave us the details. First, Jerusalem would be destroyed; then the tribulation, the millennial kingdom, and the end of the age when the New Heavens and Earth would come. This is what Jesus was speaking of when he said no man would know the day or hour, it was in context of the New Heavens and Earth.

Isa 65:15 And you will leave your name to My chosen [to those who will use it] for a curse; and the Lord God will slay you, but He will call His servants by another name [as much greater than the former name as the name Israel was greater than the name Jacob]. [Gen 32:28; Jer 29:22.] AMP

Isaiah 65:15 G2641For you shall leave behind G1063 G3588 G3686your name G1473 G1519for G4140a glut G3588to G1588my chosen, G1473 G1473[4you G11611and G3373shall do away with G29622 the lord]. G3588But to the ones G1161 G1398that serve G1473to me, G2564they shall be called G3686[2name G25371by a new],

A glut means “filling up” or “satisfying”, so the connotation here is that people would rather fill up now and be full, and leave His name behind, to be full now. They will leave their name, a surname, to the chosen. Now the chosen are called by His name, and then they will be given a new name. Isn’t that a promise for the overcomer?

Isa 65:23 They shall not labor in vain or bring forth [children] for sudden terror or calamity; for they shall be the descendants of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them. AMP

Isaiah 65:23 G3588 G1161And G1588my chosen G1473 G3756shall not G2872tire G1519in G2756empty things, G3761nor G5043.1shall they produce children G1519for G2671a curse; G3754for G4690[2a seed G21273being blessed G52594by G23165God G1510.2.31it is], G2532and G3588 G1549their progeny G1473 G3326with G1473them.

This is interesting, as the chosen shall not get tired doing empty things and they will not produce children for a curse. Instead their children will be blessed in the New Heaven and New Earth.

This section in Isaiah tells us that those who are from this time period are the elect/chosen because of their behaviors as servants. They will inherit the New Heavens and Earth, will live on Yahweh’s holy mountains, will receive a new name, and will have blessed families.

Fast forwarding to the end of the captivity and to Daniel’s prophecy of chapter 11, the angel laid out the events of the next four hundred years for them. To us it is the four hundred years of history before Jesus’ birth. When we get to chapter 12 the angel is telling him about the tribulation and that he should close the words and seal the book for the end days, the days of completion. That is when many will be taught and the knowledge will be multiplied.

Dan 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. KJV

Daniel 12:5 And I Daniel saw, and, behold, two others stood, on one side of the bank of the river, and the other on the other side of the bank of the river. 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was over the water of the river, When will be the end of the wonders which thou has mentioned? 7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was over the water of the river, and he lifted up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and sware by him that lives for ever, that it should be for a time of times and half a time: when the dispersion is ended they shall know all these things. http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Daniel/index.htm

Dan 12:7G2532And G191I heard G3588the G435man, G3588of the one G1746being clothed G3588with the G897.1linen clothes, G3739who G1510.7.3was G1883upon G3588the G5204water G3588of the G4215river. G2532AndG5312he raised up high G3588 G1188his right hand, G1473 G2532and G3588 G710his left G1473 G1519unto G3588the G3772heaven. G2532And G3660he swore an oath G1722to G3588the G2198one living G1519into G3588the G165eon, G3754that G1519forG2540a time G2532and G2540times G2532and G2255half G2540a time, G1722in G3588the G4931completing G1287.1the dispersing G5495hand G2992of people G37having been sanctified, G1097they shall know G3956all G3778these things

Compare those two phrases, they are not alike. When the dispersion of the holy people is ended is the key phrase; when was that? The timing of the writing was just before Babylon was taken by Assyria. Cyrus let the Jews go back and rebuild the temple (Ezra and Nehemiah). But only one fourth of the people actually went back to Jerusalem. There are parallel meanings here as Jesus points to the abomination of desolation in his time as still future. There was an abomination that caused desolation when the Greeks conquered the region, there was one in 70 AD, and Paul tells us there will be another one during the tribulation time. There were large dispersions during the Greek, Roman, and Ottoman eras as well. Which time of the end of the dispersion are we speaking of? Specifically, the end of the last one.  It seems like 1948, when Israel became a nation again, was the end of the dispersion, because prior to that time Israel was not a nation of itself but under other people’s rule. When the dispersion is ended, that is when the knowledge shall increase because the books will be unsealed. The days of the dispersion are over because Israel is a known and recognized nation. There are 8 million people living in Israel today, 6 million of them claim to be Jews (75%). Just a side note, before the holocaust in 1931, there were about 1 million people living in Israel, but only 170,000 were Jews (17%). In 1941 there were 1.5 million people living in Israel, and 450,000 were Jews (30%). The holocaust victims were not from Israel which shows us that there were more Jews living outside of Israel than inside Israel. Knowledge is increasing, and many will be picked and chosen.

Dan 12:9-10 And he [the angel] said, Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall purify themselves and make themselves white and be tried, smelted, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but the teachers and those who are wise shall understand. [Dan 11:33-35.] AMP

Dan 12:10 G1586[2shall be chosen G25323and G1588.14whitened G25325and G44486purified by fire G25327and G378sanctified G41831Many]. G2532And G457.1[2shall act lawlessly G4591 the lawless ones], G2532and G3756[3shall not G49204perceive G39561all G4592 the lawless ones], G2532but G3588the G3540.1intelligent G4920shall perceive

Here we have #1586 picked out (choose), and #1588.1 chosen. Many people will be picked out and chosen, purified and sanctified. The idea of whitened as some texts read is the idea of salvation, becoming white, as the righteous wear white and the bride wears white. This definition of 1588.1 is “people chosen for salvation”. The dispersion is over, knowledge is increasing, and many shall be picked, chosen and whitened. The lawless will have no clue, but the intelligent will perceive. Then the angel gives us another clue. From the time of the perpetual sacrifice to the time of the final abomination of desolation is three and one half years. Perpetual means “24/7, continuous sacrifice” will be made, not simply one per day.

Dan12:11 And from the time of the removal of the perpetual sacrifice, when the abomination of desolation shall be set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he that waits, and comes to the thousand three hundred and thirty-five days. http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Daniel/index.htm

Dan 12:11G2532And G575from G2540the time G3883.1of the alterationG3588of the  G1734.1perpetual sacrifice, G2532and G3588the G1325putting of G3588the G946abomination G2050of desolation -- G2250[4days G55071a thousand G12502two hundred G1767.33ninety]. 12 G3107Blessed is G3588theG5278one enduring G2532and G5348coming G1519into G2250[4days G55071a thousand G51452three hundred G5144.73thirty-five].

At the start of the tribulation there will start a perpetual sacrifice in the temple, after three and one half years, there will be a last abomination of desolation (there have been several). If at that point one lives another 45 days that one will be blessed. There are fifty days between Passover and Pentecost, is this a clue?

To review this prophecy, there will be a time after the dispersion is over when the words Daniel sealed up will be understood, that is the time when knowledge will increase. During this time the chosen will be whitened through salvation. At the time of the tribulation/apocalypse there will be a three and one half year perpetual sacrifice in the temple. Today there is no temple, so this is future pending the establishment of a temple. When the man of sin sits in the Holy of Holies declaring himself to be god, that will be the final abomination, and then desolation will start. Keep in mind that the tribulation years will be a bloody time with many martyrs for Christ.

Jesus points to this prophecy when he speaks of cutting the days short for the chosen. In Matthew 24 we have three questions recorded that the disciples ask Jesus. 1) When will these things be, this time when the stones of the temple will not be stacked anymore, the time they will be thrown down and used somewhere else? 2) When will the time of Jesus’ coming, the Parousia be? 3) When will be the end of the age when there is a New Heaven and Earth? Three questions we have to read in the context of Jesus’ answer. Do not take these ideas out of context and try to explain an event; these events Jesus describes are in response to the three questions. This was a conversation, not a written blueprint; read this section with the understanding that they were conversing.

First, Jesus tells them about the destruction of the temple and Jerusalem. He tells them that they themselves would be persecuted and martyred. The one who endures to the end of his life will be saved. He says the gospel will be preached to all nations, then the end of the time period will come. The entire time period of the destruction of Jerusalem included five abominations and two desolations. Remember that Daniel told us the timing for knowledge increasing, it was after the dispersion. Then there would be a perpetual sacrifice in the temple before the last abomination. Jesus just said that there would not be one stone left upon another. Even today there are no stones left from the original temple, they were used for other buildings. And the temple mount where most people think the temple stood are incorrect, as that was the fortress Antonia. Interestingly, Israel’s archeologists know exactly where the temple was, and Israel actually owns that land. As we have studied before, the temple was over the Gihon Springs. This is the time period, almost two thousand years, of abominations and desolations until the last temple of this age is built and the last abomination takes place. The dispersion has to have ended and then a perpetual sacrifice is made before the last abomination takes place. We are living in between these two events. The dispersion ended, but there is no temple yet. At the abomination and desolation in 70 AD, Jesus said when they see this taking place to get out of the city. Likewise understand that the last abomination of desolation before Jesus comes to judge Jerusalem, the redeemed are already purchased and in heaven. Those left, who then recognize Jesus is Lord and Messiah, are the elect. Some of these people on earth will think they are doing the right thing, trusting in their leader; until they see this man sit in the Holy of Holies claiming to be god.

Matt 24:22-24 And if those days had not been shortened, no human being would endure and survive, but for the sake of the elect (God's chosen ones) those days will be shortened. 23 If anyone says to you then, Behold, here is the Christ (the Messiah)! or, There He is! — do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders so as to deceive and lead astray, if possible, even the elect (God's chosen ones). AMP

The second question, of when Jesus will come to judge Jerusalem (the Parousia), is explained as an event that the whole world will see like lightning. This is the day Enoch describes as Jesus coming with 10,000’s of his saints. There will not be any question as to everyone seeing Jesus, there will also be no question as to his Lordship. Sentinel Watchers will shake. Jesus will send his angels to gather the elect. He says this generation will not pass away until all this happens. Generation means age or a period of time involving people. No one will question Jesus’ Lordship any longer. The remaining people on earth at the end of the tribulation, who did not receive the mark of the beast, and were not martyred, will be gathered along with the elect who have died, to inhabit Jesus’ millennial kingdom.

Matt 24:30-31Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn and beat their breasts and lament in anguish, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory [in brilliancy and splendor]. [Dan 7:13; Rev 1:7.] 31 And He will send out His angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather His elect (His chosen ones) from the four winds, [even] from one end of the universe to the other. [Isa 27:13; Zech 9:14.]  AMP

With regards to the third question as to when the heavens and earth will pass away, Jesus says of that day that no one knows the day or hour. The only one who knows when there will be a New Heaven and New Earth is the Father. We know it will be after the millennial kingdom, after satan is loosed to deceive people and then thrown in the lake of fire. Jesus then compares the coming of the New Heaven and Earth, to the Parousia of Jesus, when one person will be taken (received) and one left (sent away). Some will be received into the new millennial kingdom, some will spend one thousand years in hades. Jesus’ Parousia is just as unexpected as the New Heavens and Earth will be. No one will be expecting it, which is the point. Jesus did not reveal the harpazo at this time, Paul had that revelation and John explained the events of the harpazo. But Jesus did give us a clue to his 10,000’s saints. And just as unexpectedly as the Parousia and the New Heavens and Earth will be, the harpazo will be just as unexpected. When the harpazo occurs, the events of the last abomination will fall into place.

Jesus told us about the wedding supper. He explained the kingdom of heaven is like a wedding celebration. People were invited but declined the invitation, so the King’s servants went out to remind them but the people of the wedding celebration refused the invite. The people either made excuses or killed the servants. The King sent out his armies to kill the invited guests and destroy their city. This story is similar to Isaiah 65 in context. The King then sends servants out to gather the nations, and the wedding hall was filled. When Jesus told us about the wedding feast, he mentions that someone came in that didn’t have a white garment and consequently he was thrown out. The original invitees rejected the invitation, then killed the messengers. The second group of invitees put on the proper attire. They were whitened garments by salvation and righteous deeds, chosen/elect. The man attempting to sneak in was not whitened by salvation and righteous acts. Jesus ends the story with the point that many are invited but few are chosen. Salvation is the first step, the second is righteous acts, Revelation 19. This is His army, the bride who wears white and comes back with Jesus at the Parousia.

Matt 22:14 For many are called (invited and summoned), but few are chosen. AMP

Many are summoned but not many are chosen. The chosen of this group put on the white garment and help to execute the judgments of the Parousia. The chosen of Isaiah’s group will dwell in the New Heavens and Earth which comes after the Parousia and after the millennial kingdom. Who are the chosen people with Jesus at the Parousia? Peter gives us a clue.

1 Peter 2:7-10 To you then who believe (who adhere to, trust in, and rely on Him) is the preciousness; but for those who disbelieve [it is true], The [very] Stone which the builders rejected has become the main Cornerstone, [Ps 118:22.] 8 And, A Stone that will cause stumbling and a Rock that will give [men] offense; they stumble because they disobey and disbelieve [God's] Word, as those [who reject Him] were destined (appointed) to do. 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God's] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. [Ex 19:5,6.] 10 Once you were not a people [at all], but now you are God's people; once you were unpitied, but now you are pitied and have received mercy. [Hos 2:23.]  AMP
.

The words in verse 8 for destined and appoint really means placed, the ones who rejected Jesus were placed or set aside. The bride comes out of the body, and she is a chosen family/race, a kingly priesthood, a sacred ethnos/ethnic group. A people purchased/procured who were summoned out of darkness because of the virtues they proclaim. Virtue is something one must do, righteous acts, striving for uprightness. That is the bride. She is summoned, chosen, and trustworthy. She had been proven and tried.

Rev 17:14 They will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will triumph over them; for He is Lord of lords and King of kings — and those with Him and on His side are chosen and called [elected] and loyal and faithful followers. [Dan 2:47.] AMP

Enoch saw this group of chosen people coming with Jesus to execute judgment. They have been invited, selected, and are trustworthy. They have been whitened, or made white and clean by their righteousness. This group of elect have a part to play at the end of this generation, when they come to fight alongside Jesus. They are fighting the beast and his armies first, then they are executing judgment on the people of earth. Remember that the beast kills Babylon so the only ones left fighting are the beast and those who align with him. This will be a powerful bride. Matthew said that Jesus would be seen coming with great power and glory and all the nations of earth will mourn.

Enoch’s words shake the very sentinel angels that are watching and waiting for this day.

1:9. And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones
To execute judgement upon all,
And to destroy
all the ungodly:
And to convict all flesh
Of all the works
of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed,
And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners
have spoken against Him.

It is one thing to be fearful when something unexpected happens, but for the very Watchers to be afraid when they know just as much as we do suggests that they don’t even imagine how intense this will be. If the bride puts on white, which is given because of her righteous acts, this group of elect have been tried and proven. Peter wrote to the dispersed elect who now could receive salvation through Christ.

1 Peter 1:4-13 [Born anew] into an inheritance which is beyond the reach of change and decay [imperishable], unsullied and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, 5 Who are being guarded (garrisoned) by God's power through [your] faith [till you fully inherit that final] salvation that is ready to be revealed [for you] in the last time. 6 [You should] be exceedingly glad on this account, though now for a little while you may be distressed by trials and suffer temptations, 7 So that [the genuineness] of your faith may be tested, [your faith] which is infinitely more precious than the perishable gold which is tested and purified by fire. [This proving of your faith is intended] to redound to [your] praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) is revealed. 8 Without having seen Him, you love Him; though you do not [even] now see Him, you believe in Him and exult and thrill with inexpressible and glorious (triumphant, heavenly) joy. 9 [At the same time] you receive the result (outcome, consummation) of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 10 The prophets, who prophesied of the grace (divine blessing) which was intended for you, searched and inquired earnestly about this salvation. 11 They sought [to find out] to whom or when this was to come which the Spirit of Christ working within them was indicating when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that should follow [them]. 12 It was then disclosed to them that the services they were rendering were not meant for themselves and their period of time, but for you. [It is these very] things which have now already been made known plainly to you by those who preached the good news (the Gospel) to you by the [same] Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Into these things [the very] angels long to look! 13 So brace up your minds; be sober (circumspect, morally alert); set your hope wholly and unchangeably on the grace (divine favor) that is coming to you when Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is revealed. The revealing of Jesus at the Parousia, is the apocalypse. This is when everyone will know He is who he said he is, the Son of the Most High, Savior, and Redeemer. A good question to ask ourselves is what group do we want to be a part of, the invited who can reject the invitation, the picked and chosen for His inheritance, or the ones who have accepted the invitation and are part of His inheritance but have also been whitened due to their righteous acts? Enoch gave us the conclusion of the tribulation. Isaiah has us looking to the chosen for the New Heaven and Earth. Daniel narrowed our time frame for these events. Jesus answered the 3 questions regarding these events. Paul and John gave us the further understanding of the 10,000’s returning with Jesus. And Peter showed us the elect 10,000’s are trustworthy king priests prepared for the Day of the Lord.
