Does the cup direct the potter on how it should be made? Does the clay tell the sculptor what to form? These may seem like ridiculous questions, but every day we attempt to tell the potter or the sculptor what to do, how to do it, when to do it, and why it should be done. People who know Jesus Messiah are just as guilty as non-believers. We pray, directing the Elohim to our will, whims, and wishes. Ezra was confronted with this and recognized how disrespectful he was. The world is full of unrighteousness and it cannot comprehend the things promised to the righteous in the future ages. The closer we come to the changing of the administration that we live in, the more knowledge is uncovered and revealed. The righteous always hold out hope for the harpazo, the kingdom of heaven, and the millennial reign, but in Ezra’s time the Messiah had not even been born. We have the benefit of looking backwards. Yet we still suffer from wanting to direct the Elohim. Yahweh Elohim knows the number of the seed of the adam and the measure of time, and we do not. Time is set and it is not being stirred or moved. What we do know is that evil has to pass away in the future, because evil seeds are filling the threshing floor. Evil has a set time. Let’s explore.
Uriel the archangel is speaking with Ezra. This is a section of text that must be read slowly so one has time for consideration. Ezra is distressed by evil and unrighteousness in the world. Uriel is instructing Ezra to think deeply about it.
2Es 4:11 How should thy vessel then be able to comprehend the way of the Highest, and, the world being now outwardly corrupted to understand the corruption that is evident in my sight?
2Es 4:12 Then said I unto him, It were better that we were not at all, than that we should live still in wickedness, and to suffer, and not to know wherefore.
We have all had this thought. It would have been better for Yahweh Elohim not to have created manfaced at all rather than for manfaced to become corrupt and evil, in turn spreading evil.
2Es 4:13 He answered me, and said, I went into a forest into a plain, and the trees took counsel,
2Es 4:14 And said, Come, let us go and make war against the sea that it may depart away before us, and that we may make us more woods.
2Es 4:15 The floods of the sea also in like manner took counsel, and said, Come, let us go up and subdue the woods of the plain, that there also we may make us another country.
2Es 4:16 The thought of the wood was in vain, for the fire came and consumed it.
2Es 4:17 The thought of the floods of the sea came likewise to nought, for the sand stood up and stopped them.
2Es 4:18 If thou wert judge now betwixt these two, whom wouldest thou begin to justify? or whom wouldest thou condemn?
Just like on the Risk board of our world today, invariably people will rise up in an attempt to dominate others. Who would you justify? Notice Ezra’s answer is very diplomatic.
2Es 4:19 I answered and said, Verily it is a foolish thought that they both have devised, for the ground is given unto the wood, and the sea also hath his place to bear his floods.
2Es 4:20 Then answered he me, and said, Thou hast given a right judgment, but why judgest thou not thyself also?
2Es 4:21 For like as the ground is given unto the wood, and the sea to his floods: even so they that dwell upon the earth may understand nothing but that which is upon the earth: and he that dwelleth above the heavens may only understand the things that are above the height of the heavens.
Manfaced may understand nothing but that which is upon the earth. What an understatement! If humans knew who held the keys to death and hades they would not do the evil things that they do.
2Es 4:22 Then answered I and said, I beseech thee, O Lord, let me have understanding:
2Es 4:23 For it was not my mind to be curious of the high things, but of such as pass by us daily, namely, wherefore Israel is given up as a reproach to the heathen, and for what cause the people whom thou hast loved is given over unto ungodly nations, and why the law of our forefathers is brought to nought, and the written covenants come to none effect,
2Es 4:24 And we pass away out of the world as grasshoppers, and our life is astonishment and fear, and we are not worthy to obtain mercy.
2Es 4:25 What will he then do unto his name whereby we are called? of these things have I asked.
Ezra’s heart is for his people. The nation of Israel was coming out of captivity at this time. No one can follow the laws in captivity in Babylon. No one is abiding to the written covenants either. Now they are trying to rebuild the temple. Uriel gives an answer that is not direct. He does not point out the sins of the Israelites or their defilement of the temple over the past four hundred years. Instead he points to the entire picture of the world.
2Es 4:26 Then answered he me, and said, The more thou searchest, the more thou shalt marvel; for the world hasteth fast to pass away,
2Es 4:27 And cannot comprehend the things that are promised to the righteous in time to come: for this world is full of unrighteousness and infirmities.
Ezra is told to search. Dig for answers. This is what Ezra is doing with Uriel, asking questions. The world has to pass away. The unrighteous are those who do not believe on Yahweh Elohim or adhere to his precepts. They are not looking for the Messiah. These people cannot comprehend the things promised that are coming to the righteous, the just, dikaios. They cannot comprehend it because they do not believe in Yahweh Elohim. Uriel says that this world is full of unrighteousness and infirmities.
2Es 4:28 But as concerning the things whereof thou askest me, I will tell thee; for the evil is sown, but the destruction thereof is not yet come.
Evil has been sown into the world, into the hearts of men. Evil has a set time on the earth. Its destruction has to come in the future. We know it has not been destroyed yet. We know the timeline of events, and the process that humans will live through. Our next dispensational event is the harpazo; but after that, the Day of the Lord, and then the millennial kingdom. At the end of the millennial kingdom evil will have one last chance in the hearts of humans. Then the great white throne judgment, and the new heaven and new earth.
2Es 4:29 If therefore that which is sown be not turned upside down, and if the place where the evil is sown pass not away, then cannot it come that is sown with good.
Here then is our answer as to what has to take place. Evil has to be turned upside down. We could think of it as having to be plowed up or uprooted after a seasonal crop, but there is more. The place where evil has been sown has to pass away. We live in an eight thousand year time frame up to the new heaven and new earth. According to ice core samples the earth goes through a nine to eleven thousand year cataclysmic cycle as well. We are not going to change any of Yahweh’s plans for the earth. Just as the earth became formless, void, and dark before the time of Adam, it may become formless, void, and dark once again.
2Es 4:30 For the grain of evil seed hath been sown in the heart of Adam from the beginning, and how much ungodliness hath it brought up unto this time? and how much shall it yet bring forth until the time of threshing come?
How much ungodliness? An incredible amount of ungodliness has grown in the hearts of manfaced. We also know that evil will grow worse as we close out the current dispensation, until wicked beings and wicked men will try to make war with the Lamb and his armies.
2Es 4:31 Ponder now by thyself, how great fruit of wickedness the grain of evil seed hath brought forth.
Evil is like a weed that we cannot get rid of. The seeds of evil go everywhere and it is the responsibility of every individual to root them out of their own lives. We marvel at how wicked people are; trafficking children, or creating new street drugs for people to consume. How evil is it to kill the humans that the Elohim created?
2Es 4:32 And when the ears shall be cut down, which are without number, how great a floor shall they fill?
The evil fruit will fill more than we can imagine.
2Es 4:33 Then I answered and said, How, and when shall these things come to pass? wherefore are our years few and evil?
Ezra asks, when and how will these things come to pass? It is a logical question that we all have. John told us. So did Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Paul. Why are our years few and evil? Because we were born as sons of the adam, who had an evil seed sown in his heart. However, as we know, we have been given the Holy Spirit to dwell inside of us, as a token and as a power to help us overcome.
2Es 4:34 And he answered me, saying, Do not thou hasten above the most Highest: for thy haste is in vain to be above him, for thou hast much exceeded.
Uriel tells Ezra not to be quick to overthink the Elohim. We all have questions. “How will these things come to pass?” is not an evil question, it is however questioning the Elohim. We see this today when someone wants to make a big business change, all the non-business experts start crying like chicken little, simply because they cannot fathom how it can be done. It is perfectly alright for humans not to be experts in everything, and we really should consider that the Elohim’s ways are higher, while he sees the end and the beginning at the same time. From the time when Ezra was being told these things the Elohim knew that Jesus would come and Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Paul would be writing the answers to Ezra’s questions for future generations. Uriel continues.
2Es 4:35 Did not the souls also of the righteous ask question of these things in their chambers, saying, How long shall I hope on this fashion? when cometh the fruit of the floor of our reward?
Uriel points out that others have asked these things in their own prayer closets. We all ask the Elohim when we will see the fruits of our righteous living. The righteous continue to hope even when things look bleak. We can gain encouragement from David. Uriel is going to answer Ezra.
2Es 4:36 And unto these things Uriel the archangel gave them answer, and said, Even when the number of seeds is filled in you: for he hath weighed the world in the balance.
The number of seeds has to be filled in humanity. Paul explains this in his letter to the Romans. The nations are grafted into the sheepfold. The nations are to be saved. Jesus told us this many times. It was hard for the newly returning Jews to Judah to understand. What they were supposed to do was teach the nations about Yahweh Elohim but instead they succumbed to Satanas’ evil ways. Now at Ezra’s time they were coming out of captivity and the spiritual leaders, the Assideans, were trying to lead the people in holiness. Yet Ezra (an Assidean) is told that there is a number that the Elohim is filling and he is weighing the world in the balance.
Romans 11:25 G3756 For I do not G1063 G2309 want G1473 you G50 to be ignorant, G80 brethren, G3588 G3466 of this mystery, G3778 G2443 that G3361 you should not G1510.3 be G3844 [2in G1438 3yourselves G5429 1intelligent], G3754 that G4457 callousness G575 [2in part G3313 G3588 3 to G* 4Israel G1096 1has happened] G891 until G3739 of which time G3588 the G4138 fullness G3588 of the G1484 nations G1525 should enter in
The world is weighed in the balance, meaning the good and bad are being judged by the Elohim. This is part of the Elohim’s judgments. Notice during the captivity, Daniel reveals the Elohim’s judgments to Belshazzar.
Dan 5:24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.
Dan 5:25 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.
Dan 5:26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
Dan 5:27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
Dan 5:28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
The phrase “The Handwriting is on the Wall” has become part of our nomenclature to mean that something is certain to happen, similar to “The Die is Cast”. The idea is that the judgment is final. When verse 26 uses “numbered” it is the word metreō meaning “measured in size by a fixed standard”. Daniel is telling Belshazzar the case has been looked at, the details are considered, the balance scale is off or unbalanced, the judgment is final, the Babylon kingdom will be overtaken by the Medes and the Persians.
Ezra is hearing the prophecy for the future and he has just found out that there is a number and a balance scale. Job calls out to Yahweh Elohim in a final appeal for his situation.
Job 31:6 Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.
Job knows his own heart and he is confident in his integrity. He is not bluffing or trying to trick the Elohim by ignoring his own sins. Job says to ‘take out your scales’. He knows that he can stand before Yahweh with a clear conscience.
2Es 4:37 By measure hath he measured the times; and by number hath he numbered the times; and he doth not move nor stir them, until the said measure be fulfilled.
Ezra is told that time has been measured also. We have a number of seeds being weighed in a balance scale, now we see time is measured by a fixed standard, metreō. Yahweh Elohim does not move or stir them until the measure is fulfilled. Think about this. Yahweh Elohim does not change anything until all is fulfilled. He doesn’t alter His timing. He doesn’t erase any numbers, or put his calculations in different accounting columns. He doesn’t move any of his plans. With this in mind, how is it we think that we can move the Elohim to do anything different concerning the measure of time? We can’t get him to hurry up and harpazo us, or change the length of the dispensations, or bring the tribulation, or Day of the Lord, sooner. The timing is fixed and will not move. There is no daylight savings to adjust time. His plan is laid out according to the time he set and it will be finished when it is fulfilled, not before. The length of the dispensations, the amount of time for each age, is fixed, not random and not chaotic. Exactly as he has measured and numbered it until it all is fulfilled. Notice what Jesus tells us.
Matthew 7:1 G3361 Judge not G2919 G2443 that G3361 you should not G2919 be judged!
2 G1722 [2by G3739 3what G1063 1For] G2917 judgment G2919 you judge, G2919 you shall be judged; G2532 and G1722 by G3739 what G3358 measure G3354 you measure, G488 it shall be measured back G1473 to you.
Jesus is suggesting that we stop judging other peoples sins, because we have our own plank in our own eyes. He says by what metron, “measuring stick or ruler” we use to metreō “measure as a fixed standard”, it will be antimetreō “measured back in return or repaid”. If our measuring stick condemns others for drinking wine then we will be measured by that measuring stick. If our measuring stick is pointing out gluttony, then we will be measured by that same standard. This is the sin conscious standard of the Pharisees.
Isaiah tells us that Yahweh Elohim measures the entire universe.
Isaiah 40:12 G5100 Who G3354 measured G3588 [3 with the G5495 4hand G3588 1the G5204 2water], G2532 and G3588 the G3772 heaven G4693.1 with a span, G2532 and G3956 all G3588 the G1093 earth G1404.1 in a handful? G5100 Who G2476 established G3588 the G3735 mountains G4712.4 weight, G2532 and G3588 the G3486.1 groves G2218 in a yoke balance scale ?
13 G5100 Who G1097 knew G3563 the mind G2962 of the lord ? G2532 and G5100 who G1473 [2his G4825 3counselor G1096 1became]? G3739 Who G4822 shall instruct G1473 him?
We understand that nothing is random or formed by chance, but has been specifically designed. Everything around us, our earth, our sea, our mountains have been uniquely constructed by Yahweh Elohim and the Holy Spirit. Our universe has been measured, our heavens have been measured, our earth has been measured, the mountains and forests have been measured, the number of seed of manfaced has been measured, and time has been measured as well. Nothing is by chance. Nothing is random. Nothing just chaotically happens. Yahweh is not stirring or moving the things that he measures until it is all fulfilled. There is a plan. There has always been a plan. The plan has been weighed and balanced and proceeds as the handwriting is on the wall.
2Es 4:38 Then answered I and said, O Lord that bearest rule, even we all are full of impiety.
Ezra’s response is that we humans are full of impiety, lack of respect, unholiness, and immorality. We question the one who knows every grain of sand on the earth as if we know better. We question the Creator who sees the end and the beginning at the same time, as if we know better.
2Es 4:39 And for our sakes peradventure it is that the floors of the righteous are not filled, because of the sins of them that dwell upon the earth.
The floors of the righteous are not filled. Joel explains.
Jol 2:23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
Jol 2:24 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil.
Jol 2:25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
Joel was a prophet in the southern kingdom around the time of Uzziah. He prophesied that the nation of Judah was going to go into destruction. He called them to repent, then tells them about the Day of the Lord, admonishing them to come back to Yahweh Elohim. Joel then says that Yahweh having pity on them will give them rain, causing their threshing floors to be full of wheat. This is what Ezra is referencing.
With every prophecy people try to squeeze the words of Yahweh into their time, their lives, and their age. Ezra is plainly saying that his time period is not the time period that Joel is speaking of. Today we look for evidence that we are in the fourth trumpet and third seal. We are not. Yahweh got quite specific in giving us ordinal numbers so that if we are to ever hear someone skipping around the ordinal numbers to try and prove something we can clearly see they are incorrect. One comes before two, two before three, etc. All seven seals come before the seven trumpets, and all seven trumpets come before the seven bowls. The simplicity of the way that Yahweh had John explain it leaves no room for mixing and matching. Yes there will be things that look similar in our world, like war, or sickness, or inflation, but if we remember, we have to keep our world population numbers in perspective, we will realize we are not living in the time of the seal, trumpet, or bowl judgments.

Ezra was probably hopeful that now that they were back in the land and the temple was rebuilt and dedicated, they would be living as in the time that Joel pointed out, where Yahweh had mercy on them. However the Day of the Lord had not come to pass, and has not come to pass as of yet, so Ezra, after talking to Uriel, realizes that the floors of the righteous are not filled because of the sins of the people that dwell on the earth.
Joel’s prophecy of restoring the years the locust ate is a millennial reign prophecy. Our millennial King has not taken his place yet as King of kings and Lord of lords.
Uriel gets clever. He suggests to Ezra to ask a pregnant women if she can hold off the birth of her baby.
2Es 4:40 So he answered me, and said, Go thy way to a woman with child, and ask of her when she hath fulfilled her nine months, if her womb may keep the birth any longer within her.
2Es 4:41 Then said I, No, Lord, that can she not. And he said unto me, In the grave the chambers of souls are like the womb of a woman:
2Es 4:42 For like as a woman that travaileth maketh haste to escape the necessity of the travail: even so do these places haste to deliver those things that are committed unto them.
Pay close attention here. In the grave the chambers of souls are going through the birthing process. These places, the chambers, are in a hurry to deliver the things committed to them. What chambers? Didn’t Enoch tell us of all the chambers and places, and the levels of heaven. They are on a schedule like a woman in labor. They will not birth until it is time, and no longer.

https://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2018/01/temples-of-god-image-of-god-heavenly.html
As Enoch explains the various levels in heaven, we want to remember that Ezra had access to all of Enoch’s writings. Uriel’s words to Ezra make sense to them, but not to us unless we have read the scrolls and prophecies that Ezra read. Nonetheless, we can see what Uriel was explaining to Ezra, the places in the heavens cannot hold back when the time for birthing has come. Remember, the time is measured.
2Es 4:43 From the beginning, look, what thou desirest to see, it shall be shewed thee.
2Es 4:44 Then answered I and said, If I have found favour in thy sight, and if it be possible, and if I be meet therefore,
2Es 4:45 Shew me then whether there be more to come than is past, or more past than is to come.
2Es 4:46 What is past I know, but what is for to come I know not.
Ezra is thinking through history and wondering about all of the things that have passed and just how much more is to come. Uriel explains with another creative comparison.
2Es 4:47 And he said unto me, Stand up upon the right side, and I shall expound the similitude unto thee.
2Es 4:48 So I stood, and saw, and, behold, an hot burning oven passed by before me: and it happened that when the flame was gone by I looked, and, behold, the smoke remained still.
2Es 4:49 After this there passed by before me a watery cloud, and sent down much rain with a storm; and when the stormy rain was past, the drops remained still.
2Es 4:50 Then said he unto me, Consider with thyself; as the rain is more than the drops, and as the fire is greater than the smoke; but the drops and the smoke remain behind: so the quantity which is past did more exceed.
At this point Ezra was living some time after 450 BC, with the realigned calendar adding back the 243 missing years, meaning there was about 3,500 years already past and 2,475 years to our day. Uriel says the quantity past is more than the future.
2Es 4:51 Then I prayed, and said, May I live, thinkest thou, until that time? or what shall happen in those days?
2Es 4:52 He answered me, and said, As for the tokens whereof thou askest me, I may tell thee of them in part: but as touching thy life, I am not sent to shew thee; for I do not know it.
2Es 5:1 Nevertheless as coming the tokens, behold, the days shall come, that they which dwell upon earth shall be taken in a great number, and the way of truth shall be hidden, and the land shall be barren of faith.
They that dwell on the earth shall be taken in a great number. Where did we hear about a number? There is a number of the seed of the adam being weighed and balanced. Once the number of nations is come in they are taken and the way of truth will be hidden and there won’t be any faith because the righteous believers will be in the heavens. The harpazo is only for the believers in Jesus Messiah, the righteous and redeemed. The tribulation is not for the believers in Jesus Messiah.
2Es 5:2 But iniquity shall be increased above that which now thou seest, or that thou hast heard long ago.
2Es 5:3 And the land, that thou seest now to have root, shalt thou see wasted suddenly.
2Es 5:4 But if the most High grant thee to live, thou shalt see after the third trumpet that the sun shall suddenly shine again in the night, and the moon thrice in the day:
2Es 5:5 And blood shall drop out of wood, and the stone shall give his voice, and the people shall be troubled:
We know there will be signs in the sun and moon as John explained.
Rev 8:10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
Rev 8:11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
Rev 8:12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
Rev 8:13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!
Is this the third trumpet Uriel is talking about? John is more descriptive during this time period.
2Es 5:6 And even he shall rule, whom they look not for that dwell upon the earth, and the fowls shall take their flight away together:
2Es 5:7 And the Sodomitish sea shall cast out fish, and make a noise in the night, which many have not known: but they shall all hear the voice thereof.
2Es 5:8 There shall be a confusion also in many places, and the fire shall be oft sent out again, and the wild beasts shall change their places, and menstruous women shall bring forth monsters:
2Es 5:9 And salt waters shall be found in the sweet, and all friends shall destroy one another; then shall wit hide itself, and understanding withdraw itself into his secret chamber,
2Es 5:10 And shall be sought of many, and yet not be found: then shall unrighteousness and incontinency be multiplied upon earth.
These are all the elements found in the seals, trumpets, and bowl judgments. Women giving birth to monsters is interesting. The general usage of monsters in the Bible is sea monsters, not Frankenstein. But it can also mean deformed babies, or genetically altered babies. Friends destroying one another is not unfathomable. Wit or intelligence and the mental capacity for processing information will not be found. Understanding will not be found. Uriel is describing mental and emotional breakdowns possibly due to demonic possession. Incontinency is the loss of bowel and urinary control, but in Biblical terms it is used as sexual promiscuity. People will have no sexual control. Rape will be widespread. We are seeing signs of all of these things today but we are not living in that time period yet.
2Es 5:11 One land also shall ask another, and say, Is righteousness that maketh a man righteous gone through thee? And it shall say, No.
2Es 5:12 At the same time shall men hope, but nothing obtain: they shall labour, but their ways shall not prosper.
No one in any country will have righteousness. We know this time period will be a miserable time for those on the earth. People will work and not prosper, they will hope and never obtain. Nothing will be able to make people righteous. Today we are righteous because we believe on Jesus Messiah. We confess him with our mouth that he is Lord and believe he rose up on the third day. This is how we become righteous. On the earth during the tribulation, people will be martyred for their belief in Jesus Messiah, and they are not made righteous on the earth. Instead they will be made righteous by their martyrdom when they enter heaven.
2Es 5:13 To shew thee such tokens I have leave; and if thou wilt pray again, and weep as now, and fast even days, thou shalt hear yet greater things.
2Es 5:14 Then I awaked, and an extreme fearfulness went through all my body, and my mind was troubled, so that it fainted.
2Es 5:15 So the angel that was come to talk with me held me, comforted me, and set me up upon my feet.
This was a draining experience for Ezra. Imagine, Jesus had not even been born yet so there were a lot of prophecies to still be fulfilled, for example Isaiah 7. For us, looking backward, we have the great gift of knowing Him now. We are made righteous, just, and are justified through our belief in Him. Ezra was given some interesting insight that we can trace to other prophecies that have been written since Ezra’s time.
What we learn is that evil has to be turned upside down and destroyed. Evil seed was planted in the adam’s heart, and there is a time coming, a planned time for the threshing of that ungodliness. There is a number of seed that has to be weighed in the world with balanced scales. Time has been measured by a fixed standard. The holding places in the heavens are ready to be birthed, and just like a woman in labor she cannot hold back her child from birth. Ezra is told that more time has already passed than is yet to come. Men will kill one another and intelligence and understanding will be hidden on the earth. No one will be able to find a righteous person on the earth. But the believer in Christ is made righteous by believing and confessing Jesus is Lord, and that he rose up on the third day. The believer in Christ is redeemed, and will be redeemed when Jesus calls from the clouds. We cannot overthink the Elohim. He has the plan and it is not random, it is not chance, it was not implemented without weighing and balancing everything. There are allotted times and allotted spaces. It may look random and chaotic to us but it is well planned and already underway. Yahweh does not move or stir anything until it is fulfilled. We can trust the one who created it all and gave everyone on the earth a chance to become righteous and redeemed.
