Knowing Mysteries; Does Yahweh Speak to Nations? The Message of True Apostles

The mysteries of the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God are not for everyone. The mysteries that Jesus spoke of are only for his disciples to learn. In other words, if one is a disciple, that one has the ability to learn about the hidden secret things of Jesus’ kingdoms. The kingdoms Jesus has established are not up to men to judge or change. Men are not that smart. One thing we can see from Jesus’ words is that the mysteries of the kingdoms are not favorable to the Jews. The Jews had enjoyed many years of exclusivity as Yahweh’s special people, but Jesus made a change. If we recognize that the Jews were scattered over all the nations, the diaspora, we see the need for this new way of doing things. But humans do not change easily and Jesus’ teachings of the mysteries have gone untaught to his disciples. Paul and others gave their lives for this new way of entering into the kingdom, and Paul asked people to pray for him so that he could bring these mysteries to the world.

In Matthew 13, Mark 4, and Luke 8 we have a parable that seems like it is the same but the variations in the three accounts of the sower gives us the understanding that Jesus explained this differently to different groups of people. Jesus may have repeated this explanation several times. In Matthew, Jesus explains this to his disciples in regards to the kingdom of heaven; in Mark and Luke he is explaining this in regards to the kingdom of God. But in all three accounts Jesus points out that it is not given for everyone to know the mysteries. Mysteries are only for those who pursue after the kingdoms Jesus will be in charge of.

NT:3466 musterion (moos-tay'-ree-on); from a derivative of muo (to shut the mouth); a secret or "mystery" (through the idea of silence imposed by initiation into religious rites): KJV - mystery. NT:3466 musteerion, musteeriou, to a hidden thing, secret, mystery:
1. a hidden or secret thing, not obvious to the understanding: 1 Cor 13:2
2. a hidden purpose or counsel; secret will:
3. it denotes the mystic or hidden sense:

Matt 13:10-12 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

In all three accounts Jesus is asked by the disciples to explain this comparative story. The disciples consisted of the twelve plus others who followed and believed that Jesus was the Messiah. That includes women and children. When Jesus explains this, as recorded in Matthew 13:12, Jesus teaches this the same way he explains the talents in Matthew 25:29 regarding the kingdom of heaven. This section can be understood by Jesus’ story in Matthew 25, where the talents were given according to each person’s dunamis. Jesus uses this parable two other times to explain the kingdom of God, but does not use this example of whoever has will be given more. Therefore, the Mark and Luke accounts are not focused on dunamis or people with dunamis. This tells us he may have explained this comparative story at least twice. Once in regards to the kingdom of heaven, where people are given “talents” according to their dunamis, and twice in regards to the kingdom of God. However, Mark says specifically “when Jesus was alone”. This tells us that the other two times Jesus explained this verse could have been different as Jesus is not said to have been alone in Luke’s account, but may have been surrounded by several disciples. Therefore, Jesus may have explained this story to more than three different groups of people. We can gather that entrance into the kingdom of heaven and entrance into the kingdom of God are similar. The kingdom of heaven is for the redeemed at the time of the harpazo and the kingdom of God comes on earth at the millennial age.

Matt 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them. KJV

Jesus quotes Isaiah 6:9 &10 here. When Isaiah was writing this he was writing this to religious and arrogant people. Jesus was doing the same. The multitudes came and listened to Jesus and within the multitudes were people who may have been curious about what he was doing but they were not disciples. Many could have been Pharisees and Sadducees. Jesus had just defined disciples as those who do the will of the Father. Notice the categories of people Jesus addresses.

Matt 13:18-23 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. KJV

All three records end with the seed on good ground bearing fruit, while Luke’s version does not put a quantity on the yield. Jesus explained the different types of people there are in the world. There are people who lose the word of the kingdom when the devil steals it. There are people who lose the word of the kingdom when hard times come. These first two types of people are happy to hear the words of the kingdom but they don’t retain it. There are people who hear the word of the kingdom, but they like money more than they care about their future destiny. Matthew specifically says these seeds are the words of the kingdom. Mark calls these seeds the word and Luke calls these seeds the word of God.

This is what Jesus says about the mystery/mysteries, that only his disciples are to know but others are not given to know: all mysteries are only for disciples, not those who reject Jesus as Messiah. This is why fence sitters and Jesus haters do not understand what he was saying. The Pharisees and Sadducees and other Jewish leaders are a great example of those who didn’t understand Jesus’ words.  All mysteries are for disciples to ginosko-to come to know, to perceive, to understand. Mysteries are not automatically known by disciples, they are found out. Just as Proverbs 25:2 states “It is the glory of God to conceal a thing, but the glory of kings is to search out a thing. [Deut 29:29; Rom 11:33.]” AMP. These mysteries are for disciples, the redeemed who become kings and priests in Jesus’ millennial kingdom of God. All mysteries are regarding the kingdom of heaven or the kingdom of God, which is for the future at the proper time.

There are a few aspects to these secrets and Paul further defines them. One part of the mystery is that Israel’s blindness is due to the time of the Nations. The word gentile is a misnomer and was used in a negative connotation, but the Greeks did not have a word in their vocabulary that could be used to describe themselves as “heathen dogs” as compared to the Israelites. The Greeks and the Romans were “world dominators and leaders”, they did not call themselves gentiles. Once we understand that consistently throughout the word of God the Hebrew word Goy and Goyim should be translated “nations”, (the Greek word for nations is Ethnos) we will have a better perspective of what the Holy Spirit is telling us. All of Abraham’s descendants are Goyim or Gentiles, or more correctly, Nations. So all Jews are Gentiles, but not all Gentiles are Jews. Do you see the confusion sowed into the Bible by people who refuse Jesus? http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2013/12/gentiles-all-jews-are-goyim-multitudes.html  http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2015/02/treasure-nation-of-sinners-called-into.html

Rom 11:25 Lest you be self-opinionated (wise in your own conceits), I do not want you to miss this hidden truth and mystery, brethren: a hardening (insensibility) has [temporarily] befallen a part of Israel [to last] until the full number of the ingathering of the Gentiles Nations [ethnos] has come in, AMP

Compare this to what Jesus said as recorded in Luke.

Luke 21:24 They will fall by the mouth and the edge of the sword and will be led away as captives to and among all nations[ethnos]; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles nations [ethnos] until the times of the Gentiles nations [ethnos]  are fulfilled (completed). [Isa 63:18; Dan 8:13.] AMP

Clearly this is a mystery that disciples can understand. We will explore this further shortly, but first we should concentrate on what mysteries there are regarding the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God which are only for disciples who search these things out. Paul says the plan of redemption is a mystery.

Rom 16:25-26 Now to Him Who is able to strengthen you in the faith which is in accordance with my Gospel and the preaching of (concerning) Jesus Christ (the Messiah), according to the revelation (the unveiling) of the mystery of the plan of redemption which was kept in silence and secret for long ages, 26 But is now disclosed and through the prophetic Scriptures is made known to all nations [ethnos], according to the command of the eternal God, [to win them] to obedience to the faith, AMP

Jesus’ plan was to redeem the dead who believed on the Messiah, also those living at that time who believe Jesus came as the Messiah, and the people who look backward in time and believe Jesus was the Messiah. This plan was a secret that the prophets desired to look into, Matthew 13:17. The reason they were not told about this mystery was so that the princes of this world would not know it otherwise they would not have crucified Jesus. Interestingly, once Jesus was crucified, this mystery of redemption was shown to all the sons of God, proving God’s manifold and multifaceted wisdom.

1 Cor 2:7-14 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. KJV

The wisdom of God was hidden in a mystery regarding our glorification. The demonic princes of the world didn’t know any of this. And we know these things that have been prepared for us not by our own knowledge, but by the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit. The same Holy Spirit that authored the Bible. Notice that the natural man does not receive or know the things of the Spirit of God. Just like Jesus said, the mysteries are not for people who are not disciples of Jesus. Therefore when a non-disciple tries to tell the world how the Bible is just a made up story, and not real or practical, it is because it is foolishness to that non-disciple. Why get upset over what he says, he can’t and won’t understand it until he becomes a disciple. That non-disciple would fall into one of the three categories of the type of ground that does not cultivate seed and produce fruit. Paul tells us the Apostles are to be servants and stewards of the mysteries of God.

1 Cor 4:1 SO THEN, let us [apostles] be looked upon as ministering servants of Christ and stewards (trustees) of the mysteries (the secret purposes) of God. AMP

The Apostles are to serve the secret purposes of God to people on earth. That is what their function is. One of the things true Apostles talk about is the harpazo. This is a mystery that is specifically for the redeemed, disciples. This is the entrance into the kingdom of heaven, when the corruptible puts on incorruption and the mortal puts on immortality. If one claims to be an Apostle but denies the harpazo, that one is not an Apostle for the Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Cor 15:51-52 Take notice! I tell you a mystery (a secret truth, an event decreed by the hidden purpose or counsel of God). We shall not all fall asleep [in death], but we shall all be changed (transformed) 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the [sound of the] last trumpet call. For a trumpet will sound, and the dead [in Christ] will be raised imperishable (free and immune from decay), and we shall be changed (transformed). AMP

The harpazo is not for the non-disciple or Jesus rejecter. It is only for those who make Jesus their Lord. Again, this is something that cannot be known by people who do not have the indwelling of the Spirit of God. Disciples have the indwelling of the Spirit of God. Therefore, if someone in a leadership position says the harpazo is foolishness, it is because that one is not privy to the mysteries and not a disciple. The harpazo is the mystery of the kingdom of heaven. Clearly as we have studied in past weeks, one cannot get into the kingdom of heaven if one is not known by Jesus. It is not about people knowing Jesus it is about Jesus knowing us, and Jesus knows his disciples, the redeemed. The harpazo is not a secret to Jesus’ disciples, he makes known his will, plan, and purpose to them. True Apostles preach the harpazo.

Eph 1:7-10 In Him we have redemption (deliverance and salvation) through His blood, the remission (forgiveness) of our offenses (shortcomings and trespasses), in accordance with the riches and the generosity of His gracious favor, 8 Which He lavished upon us in every kind of wisdom and understanding (practical insight and prudence), 9 Making known to us the mystery (secret) of His will (of His plan, of His purpose). [And it is this:] In accordance with His good pleasure (His merciful intention) which He had previously purposed and set forth in Him, 10 [He planned] for the maturity of the times and the climax of the ages to unify all things and head them up and consummate them in Christ, [both] things in heaven and things on the earth. AMP

Paul is wordy, and sometimes people get lost in what he is saying. But the mysteries of the fullness or maturity of times when everything is united and fulfilled in Christ, is again the secrets of the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God. It was through Jesus’ blood that we have remission of sins. If someone claims another way to remit sins, that one is not a disciple. This knowledge is for the maturity of the times, not for the days of Adam or Abraham but for the days after Jesus announced the kingdoms. Paul was allowed to share the mystery with the nations, the ethnic people groups around the world.

Eph 3:1-7 FOR THIS reason [because I preached that you are thus built up together], I, Paul, [am] the prisoner of Jesus the Christ for the sake and on behalf of you Gentiles nations—  2 Assuming that you have heard of the stewardship dispensation of God's grace (His unmerited favor) that was entrusted to me [to dispense to you] for your benefit, 3 [And] that the mystery (secret) was made known to me and I was allowed to comprehend it by direct revelation, as I already briefly wrote you. 4 When you read this you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ. 5 [This mystery] was never disclosed to human beings in past generations as it has now been revealed to His holy apostles (consecrated messengers) and prophets by the [Holy] Spirit. 6 [It is this:] that the Gentiles nations are now to be fellow heirs [with the Jews], members of the same body and joint partakers [sharing] in the same divine promise in Christ through [their acceptance of] the glad tidings (the Gospel). 7 Of this [Gospel] I was made a minister according to the gift of God's free grace (undeserved favor) which was bestowed on me by the exercise (the working in all its effectiveness) of His power. AMP

One of the big secrets that was not made public until after Jesus’ death was that in this dispensation, the nations have all become fellow heirs and of the same body. Paul was given the privilege to share this mystery with the world. If someone erases or ignores dispensations, that one is not a disciple of Jesus nor an Apostle to the body of Christ.

Eph 3:8-10 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints (God's consecrated people), this grace (favor, privilege) was granted and graciously entrusted: to proclaim to the Gentiles nations the unending (boundless, fathomless, incalculable, and exhaustless) riches of Christ [wealth which no human being could have searched out], 9 Also to enlighten all men and make plain to them what is the plan [regarding the Gentiles nations and providing for the salvation of all men] of the mystery kept hidden through the ages and concealed until now in [the mind of] God Who created all things by Christ Jesus. 10 [The purpose is] that through the church called out the complicated, many-sided wisdom of God in all its infinite variety and innumerable aspects might now be made known to the angelic rulers and authorities (principalities and powers) in the heavenly sphere. AMP

Paul was to enlighten all men regarding the nations and the plan for salvation. Through the called out redeemed disciples, the wisdom of God is shown to the angels, rulers, principalities and powers. Wow, the called out are the ones making this mystery known to the other sons of God. The other spiritual sons of God are finding out the infinite wisdom of God through the redeemed disciples. If someone tells you there is another plan for salvation, that one is not a true disciple or Apostle. Another aspect of the mystery is the comparison of marriage to the relationship of Christ and the called out.

Eph 5:29-32For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and carefully protects and cherishes it, as Christ does the church, 30 Because we are members (parts) of His body. 31 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. [Gen 2:24.] 32 This mystery is very great, but I speak concerning [the relation of] Christ and the church called out. AMP

The way that Christ connects with the redeemed disciples is like a marriage. This again is foolishness and not understandable to those who are non-disciples. The mysteries are not given to all people, but the option of becoming a redeemed disciple is made available to all people. Then those who choose Jesus as Lord can learn the mysteries. Jesus is joined to us and we are joined to him, which is the message for redeemed disciples and should be spoken by true Apostles. Another aspect of the mystery is Christ in you, the called out redeemed disciple, which is the hope of glory.

Col 1:25-2:1 In it I became a minister in accordance with the divine stewardship dispensation which was entrusted to me for you [as its object and for your benefit], to make the Word of God fully known [among you] —  26 The mystery of which was hidden for ages and generations [from angels and men], but is now revealed to His holy people (the saints), 27 To whom God was pleased to make known how great for the Gentiles nations are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ within and among you, the Hope of [realizing the] glory. 28 Him we preach and proclaim, warning and admonishing everyone and instructing everyone in all wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God), that we may present every person mature (full-grown, fully initiated, complete, and perfect) in Christ (the Anointed One). 29 For this I labor [unto weariness], striving with all the superhuman energy which He so mightily enkindles and works within me. AMP

We have to take note of the word dispensation (stewardship) as it pertains to nations (Gentiles) in regards to the mystery, both here and in Ephesians 3. The mystery is always in regards to this dispensation, the dispensation or administration that came on the day of Pentecost. That is the dispensation of the Holy Spirit and the time of the nations. It is the time that people from all ethnic groups can be redeemed. This does not make sense to non-disciples because for so long one had to be born of a certain ethnicity or be part of a certain lineage. Jesus residing within us, (the Greek word en literally means in the center of) means that Christ knows us, he knows our heart. The mystic secret is to know the Anointed One.

Col 2:1-3 FOR I want you to know how great is my solicitude for you [how severe an inward struggle I am engaged in for you] and for those [believers] at Laodicea, and for all who [like yourselves] have never seen my face and known me personally. 2 [For my concern is] that their hearts may be braced (comforted, cheered, and encouraged) as they are knit together in love, that they may come to have all the abounding wealth and blessings of assured conviction of understanding, and that they may become progressively more intimately acquainted with and may know more definitely and accurately and thoroughly that mystic secret of God, [which is] Christ (the Anointed One). 3 In Him all the treasures of [divine] wisdom (comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God) and [all the riches of spiritual] knowledge and enlightenment are stored up and lie hidden. AMP

Not only is part of the mystery Christ in us, it is also knowing Christ. It is a mystery to have Christ reside within us and that we can know Him. Remember in order to enter the kingdom of heaven Jesus must know us. This is the dispensation that Christ lives in us and the wisdom of God is hidden in Christ. Christ is the only way to know the wisdom of the Father. Therefore disciples and true Apostles teach and share about becoming more intimately acquainted with the mysteries of the kingdoms.

At the time of the tribulation, after the harpazo and the opening of the kingdom of heaven, another aspect of the mystery comes into play. This again is something only disciples can understand. The people who will live at that time will begin to understand as they become disciples. Unfortunately, those who receive Christ at that time will die as martyrs.

2 Thess 2:6-8 And now you know what is restraining him [from being revealed at this time]; it is so that he may be manifested (revealed) in his own [appointed] time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness (that hidden principle of rebellion against constituted authority) is already at work in the world, [but it is] restrained only until he who restrains is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one (the antichrist) will be revealed and the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of His mouth and bring him to an end by His appearing at His coming. [Isa 11:4.] AMP

The lawless one is revealed as soon as the Holy Spirit and the redeemed are taken out of the way. That is the harpazo, the day of redemption. At the end of the tribulation, Jesus comes on the Day of the Lord with his armies to do away with the beast. True disciples and Apostles search out these mysteries.

Leaders that want to hold an office among the body of Christ must possess the mysteries. Paul is very clear regarding these qualifications. This however means someone must possess the secrets in order to know if potential leaders possess the secrets. Because we have lost so much of the original understanding of the Bible, we are working in reverse instead of forward. By working backwards we now have to catch everyone up to correct understandings of the kingdoms.

1 Tim 3:9 They must possess the mystic secret of the faith [Christian truth as hidden from ungodly men] with a clear conscience. AMP

If leaders don’t possess the mysteries they will lead people astray. That is why there are so many factions among groups calling themselves Christian or Christ-in. One person who communicates something other than the mysteries or distorts the very foundations of the mysteries will harm many people for many years. It is clearer to see who is a disciple of Jesus by what they teach. Do they tell people Yahweh is punishing the nations? That is quite incorrect. Yahweh does not recognize man-made borders and punish entire groups in one land mass. That is simply clear from the very definition of the word nations and how it relates to the dispensation and the mystery. That is the mystery. The nations, such as the United States, Canada, Russia, China, or Japan, are not harmed by the wrath of Yahweh until the tribulation. Those man made borders are not nations, the people are nations. The people of the earth are ethnos, ethnic groups. Jesus erased the borders and invited everyone into His kingdoms. The redeemed are saved and spared from the wrath to come. That does not mean the devil is not at work on the earth today. But Yahweh is not punishing groups of people in geographical areas. Remember, if the princes of this world would have known the new thing Jesus would make available, they never would have crucified him. Also, think back to the devil’s part in the story of the sower. Men who want to be leaders are to know this and if they have been misled by someone else, they are to correct what they have mistakenly taught. Paul tells us that another aspect of the mystery is godliness which is Jesus himself.

1 Tim 3:14-16 Although I hope to come to you before long, I am writing these instructions to you so that, 15 If I am detained, you may know how people ought to conduct themselves in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and stay (the prop and support) of the Truth. 16 And great and important and weighty, we confess, is the hidden truth (the mystic secret) of godliness. He [God] was made visible in human flesh, justified and vindicated in the [Holy] Spirit, was seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, [and] taken up in glory. AMP

The non-disciple will never understand God visible in human flesh. The non-disciple is not teachable in the mysteries of the kingdoms. Those who claim to be redeemed disciples and Apostles will teach the mysteries of the kingdoms of Jesus and behave the way Paul suggests; as pillars of the called out of the living God supporting the truth. If there are those who teach otherwise, they are not disciples or Apostles. Jesus told his disciples that mysteries are not for everyone to know. But disciples can know these mysteries because the Holy Spirit teaches them and Christ is in them. This understanding of the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God were kept hidden. The plan of salvation was kept hidden. The times of the nation’s being redeemed was kept hidden. The purposes of this dispensation was kept hidden until Jesus was crucified and the redeemed make it known to the sons of God. All of these aspects of the mystery are important for disciples to pursue after. As Jesus told us, the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God are not given to everyone.

Passover; Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the Kingdom of Heaven & Kingdom of God; Does Jesus Know You

Sometimes the pictures we keep in our minds regarding the Bible are not actually the reality of history. There has always been a pulling and tugging between religious leaders and their versions of faith and practice, and regular people who have a personal relationship with Yahweh. By listening to religious leaders without thought, or believing their stories without documented fact and historical authenticity, we develop mind pictures that are a fantasy, not reality. Do you realize that neither Jesus nor the prophets ever entered the Holy Place or the Holy of Holies and ministered there? Jesus only entered and taught in the outer courts. He was thought of as a bastard child by the religious leaders. Jesus did teach in synagogues, but he never performed a sacrifice or ritual temple service before laying down his own life. There was no temple for Abraham, Isaac, or Jacob but they all will enter the kingdom of heaven; they, and the prophets also, will enter the kingdom of God. But there was no temple and they all lived long before the Exodus and the passing over of the destroyer.

From the time it was built, corrupt and evil practices occurred in the temple alongside the glory of Yahweh. We have been led to believe by some people that we have to observe temple practices, but what we are doing is trading what Jesus the Messiah did, for the observances of men. This can be fueled by religious spirits or just pious self-righteousness. Can following a religious ritual observance, without the actual shedding of blood, atone for anything? Can a religious leader atone your sins as completely as Jesus can? Is there any atonement other than Jesus? We have allowed ourselves to believe that there is a practice one must keep; but the reality is that the entire temple became corrupt and devoid of the glory of God, therefore why would we think Yahweh will show up if we practice an old ritual? We have Jesus on one hand, and men performing rituals on the other, which is best? With the intensity of the coming of the Glory of Yahweh Aleph Tav in Solomon’s temple (I Kings 8), and the dramatic leaving of the Glory of Yahweh (Ezekiel 10), do we really think following a ritual rather than Jesus will bring back the Glory of Yahweh? If the Glory of Yahweh came, where would it reside?  Since there is no temple and no place to offer blood sacrifices, what if worshipping Jesus for his sacrifice as a Passover lamb is the only practice we should participate in?

Picture a floor plan of the temple. If you do not know what the temple/tabernacle floor plan looked like we can keep it simple by picturing a rectangle inside a rectangle, inside a rectangle. Three rectangles. The outer one is the outer courts, the middle one is the Holy Place, and the inner one is the Holy of Holies. Picture Jesus the sacrificial lamb standing in the outer rectangle/court. Now picture religious men in the Holy Place and one religious man in the Holy of Holies, the two smaller inside rectangles. Can you see it all? Jesus is our atonement in the outer courts. But somehow people think they have to go to the men in the inside places to perform some service to be atoned. Look at it. Jesus, or religious men? Jesus, or religious men? Jesus, or religious men? Celebrating the coming out of Egypt is nice but remember that Yahweh was not pleased with the people and offered Moses the opportunity to become a great nation while Yahweh destroyed the Israelites, Exodus 32:10. The people were corrupt and therefore we humans needed a permanent and complete atonement. http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2014/12/erasing-jesus-intentional-sabotage.html

In Judea, Josiah had a lot of “house” cleaning to do to because of evil ritual practices in the temple, so did Hezekiah before him. But by the time we get to Ezekiel, we recognize all the same practices were taking place once again. With all that Josiah did to clean up the temple, we would think that it would have stayed clean but it didn’t. Over and over we had messages from the prophets warning the nation, but the warnings went unheeded. Fast forward to 32 AD as we see that Jesus was murdered by the very religious leaders that ministered in the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies. The dishonesty of the people in the temple seems to be epidemic no matter which temple or what time period the people lived. Let’s read what Josiah had to do to clean up Judea and hold a Passover. I will cite several past blog posts just in case one wishes to document the material we have previously covered. http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2014/03/passover-male-prostitution-in-temple.html

2 Kings 23:4-9Then the king ordered Hilkiah the high priest, his associate priest, and The Temple sentries to clean house — to get rid of everything in The Temple of God that had been made for worshiping Baal and Asherah and the cosmic powers. He had them burned outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron and then disposed of the ashes in Bethel. 5 He fired the pagan priests whom the kings of Judah had hired to supervise the local sex-and-religion shrines in the towns of Judah and neighborhoods of Jerusalem. In a stroke he swept the country clean of the polluting stench of the round-the-clock worship of Baal, sun and moon, stars — all the so-called cosmic powers. 6 He took the obscene phallic Asherah pole from The Temple of God to the Valley of Kidron outside Jerusalem, burned it up, then ground up the ashes and scattered them in the cemetery. 7 He tore out the rooms of the male sacred prostitutes that had been set up in The Temple of God; women also used these rooms for weavings for Asherah. 8 He swept the outlying towns of Judah clean of priests and smashed the sex-and-religion shrines where they worked their trade from one end of the country to the other — all the way from Geba to Beersheba. He smashed the sex-and-religion shrine that had been set up just to the left of the city gate for the private use of Joshua, the city mayor. 9 Even though these sex-and-religion priests did not defile the Altar in The Temple itself, they were part of the general priestly corruption and had to go. This seems like a lot of crazy things going on in the temple. It is safe to say that just because a building is made for the purpose of worshipping Yahweh, it may not stay that way even if the Glory of Yahweh is still residing there. Let’s go on. http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2014/11/lucifer-worship-of-cherubim-star-gospel.html

2 Kings 23:10-16 Then Josiah demolished the Topheth, the iron furnace griddle set up in the Valley of Ben Hinnom for sacrificing children in the fire. No longer could anyone burn son or daughter to the god Molech. 11 He hauled off the horse statues honoring the sun god that the kings of Judah had set up near the entrance to The Temple. They were in the courtyard next to the office of Nathan-Melech, the warden. He burned up the sun-chariots as so much rubbish. 12 The king smashed all the altars to smithereens — the altar on the roof shrine of Ahaz, the various altars the kings of Judah had made, the altars of Manasseh that littered the courtyard of The Temple — he smashed them all, pulverized the fragments, and scattered their dust in the Valley of Kidron. 13 The king proceeded to make a clean sweep of all the sex-and-religion shrines that had proliferated east of Jerusalem on the south slope of Abomination Hill, the ones Solomon king of Israel had built to the obscene Sidonian sex goddess Ashtoreth, to Chemosh the dirty-old-god of the Moabites, and to Milcom the depraved god of the Ammonites. 14 He tore apart the altars, chopped down the phallic Asherah-poles, and scattered old bones over the sites. 15 Next, he took care of the altar at the shrine in Bethel that Jeroboam son of Nebat had built — the same Jeroboam who had led Israel into a life of sin. He tore apart the altar, burned down the shrine leaving it in ashes, and then lit fire to the phallic Asherah-pole. 16 As Josiah looked over the scene, he noticed the tombs on the hillside. He ordered the bones removed from the tombs and had them cremated on the ruined altars, desacralizing the evil altars. This was a fulfillment of the word of God spoken by the Holy Man years before when Jeroboam had stood by the altar at the sacred convocation. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

By scattering old bones over the place where he destroyed all the idols, Josiah was hoping to deter anyone from taking any of the fragments of the idols as the old bones were considered unclean. From the time Solomon died and the kingdom split, the idolatrous practices started, but the Glory of God was still there until the time of Ezekiel (over 300 years).

2 Kings 23:17-24 Then the king said, "And that memorial stone — whose is that? "The men from the city said, "That's the grave of the Holy Man who spoke the message against the altar at Bethel that you have just fulfilled." 18 Josiah said, "Don't trouble his bones." So they left his bones undisturbed, along with the bones of the prophet from Samaria. 19 But Josiah hadn't finished. He now moved through all the towns of Samaria where the kings of Israel had built neighborhood sex-and-religion shrines, shrines that had so angered God. He tore the shrines down and left them in ruins — just as at Bethel. 20 He killed all the priests who had conducted the sacrifices and cremated them on their own altars, thus desacralizing the altars. Only then did Josiah return to Jerusalem. 21 The king now commanded the people, "Celebrate the Passover to God, your God, exactly as directed in this Book of the Covenant." 22 This commanded Passover had not been celebrated since the days that the judges judged Israel — none of the kings of Israel and Judah had celebrated it. 23 But in the eighteenth year of the rule of King Josiah this very Passover was celebrated to God in Jerusalem. 24 Josiah scrubbed the place clean and trashed spirit-mediums, sorcerers, domestic gods, and carved figures — all the vast accumulation of foul and obscene relics and images on display everywhere you looked in Judah and Jerusalem. Josiah did this in obedience to the words of God's Revelation written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in The Temple of God. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

Look at verse 22 again, none of the Kings of Israel and Judah had celebrated Passover. 2 Chronicles 35:18 says the same thing. “None” means no one, not one. Remember that Hezekiah had to celebrate Passover on the second month because there were too many unclean people. No other king had ever done this on the first month before. I know I’ve been led to believe that from the time of Moses people were celebrating Passover faithfully, every year, but that is clearly not the case. The practice of Passover didn’t resume until after the Babylonian captivity. By Jesus’ day there was plenty of corruption in the temple. Even though there wasn’t male and female prostitutes and idolatry in the temple (that we know of), there were very corrupt men lording over the masses. Remember Jesus driving out the people selling sacrifices and changing money?

Here is something to think through. Buildings become corrupt because people are corrupt. Abraham did not build a building, he worshipped wherever he was. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob did not have a temple to worship in, wherever they were, the temple was. Just like today, we are the temple of God, no need to build a building. If Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were the temple, they were in a different dispensation than the time of the Exodus through the time of the kings. There is no physical temple on earth today. We are in a different dispensation than the temple years. We should stop trying to erase the word dispensation from the Bible. Going backward to the years of the temple seems ridiculous in light of all the defilement there was in the temple. Instead of backing up one dispensation why not back up two, to the time of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? We can see how silly it is to try to force temple rites and rituals into our day and time as 1) there is no physical temple, 2) the temple was extremely corrupt, and 3) we are the temple. The true God-ordained rituals will be practiced again, once at the start of the tribulation when the temple is built and sacrifices resume, and then again when there is a physical temple during the millennial kingdom, when Jesus rules and reigns.

Jesus was trying to set our focus towards faith not rites and ritual service. He was teaching about the coming kingdoms, and Jesus said something rather telling. Once again we have a tendency to confuse the kingdom of heaven with the kingdom of God. He was commenting about the faith of a Centurion when he brought up Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

Matt 8:10-12 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. KJV

All the children of Israel had to do was behave like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and have a personal relationship with Yahweh, instead the children of Israel relied on rituals and rites which were without faith. How is it that people would see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven but they themselves would be in the outer darkness (hades) with weeping and gnashing of teeth? If Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob could enter the kingdom of heaven without performing temple services and rituals, why would we think we have to perform rites and ritual services to enter the kingdom of heaven?

As we have noted previously, there are two kingdoms that people want to make into one. There is a kingdom of heaven and a kingdom of God. Heaven is in heaven and the kingdom of God will be fully on earth during the millennial reign of Jesus. As we reviewed last week, when the dead rise, they rise to heaven along with the living redeemed at the time of the harpazo. So here, a Centurion had greater faith than everyone else in Israel, even the Israelites. The comparison story is in Luke 7:1 but mistakenly people think Luke 13:26-ff is the comparison. It is not. Just because Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are mentioned, the rest of the details do not connect. Let’s look at this.

Luke 13:23-30 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last. KJV

The question someone asked is if there would only be a few people saved. Jesus gave the requirements. Remember the door from Mathew’s story of the virgins? Re-read Matthew 25:12. People will be upset when they point out that they knew Jesus but Jesus is telling them that He didn’t know them. Here, we are speaking about the kingdom of God, not the kingdom of heaven. People will try and convince Jesus that they saw him, ate and drank with him, and listened to him teach.

I like Victor Alexander’s translation in his Aramaic New Testament of the second part of verse 27.  Instead of “Depart from me all you workers of iniquity”, it reads “Depart from me disloyal workers” or as footnoted “workers of obligatory work”. By obligations and obligatory works people thought they could enter the kingdom of God.

Remember Matthew’s account, the Centurion had more faith than everyone else in Israel. Here people think that if they were casual observers of Jesus and do what they are obligated to do by “law” they should be allowed into the millennial reign rather than spend one thousand years in hades. These people will be mad when they see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the prophets in the kingdom of God. This account includes the prophets. Remember all those guys who warned the people to no avail? Remember those guys who weren’t allowed into the Holy Place or the Holy of Holies while they were on earth?

Jesus is saying that the last will be first, the people of the last days will enter the kingdom before the people of Jesus’ day. Why? Because people in the last days will have faith instead of obligatory works because there is no temple. The people who did not see him teaching in the streets, or ate or drank in the same places he was eating and drinking will have faith like the Centurion. They know and believe. We have to think that through; on one hand we have Jesus, on the other hand we have men, which do we choose?

We need to notice something here. The religious leaders had Jesus killed by the Romans, and yet that same type of practice is still happening today. People try to disannul Jesus in favor of rituals that religious men perform. Many times there is a “yes, but” as in, yes you are saved by Jesus’ blood, but you have to go to confession; or yes you are saved by Jesus’ blood, but you have to observe these holy days or you won’t be saved or approved or holy or special. There always seems to be a group of religious people who earn their living by telling others what to do, and they have a vested interest in things that perpetuate the binding and stifling of people. There always seems to be hidden secrets and evil workings in the inner most parts of religion. What a shame. And hardly anyone says otherwise.

As we clearly see, it is not whether we know Jesus that matters. If I know Jesus, that is not a determining factor in me getting into heaven or the millennial kingdom. It is whether Jesus knows me that gets me into heaven or the millennial kingdom. Jesus has to know us, therefore it doesn’t matter how many candles I light or how many days I don’t eat yeast products. It doesn’t matter if I celebrate the Exodus or Apollyon the destroyer “passing over” the Israelites’ houses in Egypt. What gets me into the millennial kingdom of God or the kingdom of heaven is Jesus knowing me. If Jesus knows me I would know Him, but simply me knowing Him doesn’t automatically get me into either of His kingdoms. Think again on our temple picture of Jesus outside the holy places, the very places someone was to be ministering to Yahweh Alph Tav, yet Yahweh Alph Tav wasn’t inside but outside. If the religious men knew him, they would have been outside with him.

Jesus testified of himself being greater than the temple. Jesus told them but they didn’t get it. Young’s is the literal of this verse.

Matt 12:6 and I say to you, that a greater than the temple is here; YLT
Matt 12:6 But I tell you, Something greater and more exalted and more majestic than the temple is here! AMP

Jesus drove out those using the temple as a house of merchandise. Remember Lucifer merchandized his people; and in the future Babylon is destroyed for the buying and selling of men’s souls. The temple was not meant to be used for marketing, merchandizing, or as a place of business. Since the split of the kingdom, the temple has been unclean, not just Solomon’s temple but Herod’s temple as well. Whether it’s prostitution, human sacrifice, incense, selling sacrifices, changing money, or scheming to have Jesus murdered, the physical temple became defiled. It would seem that the devil has always had a way into the earthly temple.

John 2:13-17 Now the Passover of the Jews was approaching, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 14 There He found in the temple [enclosure] those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting there [also at their stands]. 15 And having made a lash (a whip) of cords, He drove them all out of the temple [enclosure] — both the sheep and the oxen — spilling and scattering the brokers' money and upsetting and tossing around their trays (their stands). 16 Then to those who sold the doves He said, Take these things away (out of here)! Make not My Father's house a house of merchandise (a marketplace, a sales shop)! [Ps 93:5.] 17 And His disciples remembered that it is written [in the Holy Scriptures], Zeal (the fervor of love) for Your house will eat Me up. [I will be consumed with jealousy for the honor of Your house.]  [Ps 69:9.] AMP

Jesus was upsetting the order of things wasn’t he? He challenged the religious leaders to stop doing what they were doing, but instead of agreeing that he was correct they demanded a sign or miracle to prove that he had the authority to drive out the merchandizers. This is why the tax collectors and harlots enter into the kingdom of God before the chief priests and elders, Matthew 21:31-32.

John 2:18-22 Then the Jews retorted, What sign can You show us, seeing You do these things? [What sign, miracle, token, indication can You give us as evidence that You have authority and are commissioned to act in this way?] 19 Jesus answered them, Destroy (undo) this temple, and in three days I will raise it up again. 20 Then the Jews replied, It took forty-six years to build this temple (sanctuary), and will You raise it up in three days? 21 But He had spoken of the temple which was His body. 22 When therefore He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He said this. And so they believed and trusted and relied on the Scripture and the word (message) Jesus had spoken. [Ps 16:10.] AMP

As always, the Jews didn’t understand what he was saying. Yet even though he was speaking of his own body rising after three days, he also very clearly taught that the temple would be destroyed. Jesus told everyone when they see the city surrounded, get out of town. We know that this event took place in 70 AD and not one stone was left upon another, Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21,:5-6 Luke 19:44, all because they did not recognize the hour of His visitation. Consequently, Jerusalem was also destroyed. We also know from archeology that the true site of the temple is not where people think it is today on the temple mount. It is not under Palestinian control, the true site is under Israeli control and can be utilized any time. http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2014/08/traditions-temple-in-city-of-davidthe.html

Jesus wasn’t impressed by the Jew’s demand for signs, miracles and wonders. He did plenty of miracles among and for all the people. The common people all believed on him.

John 2:23-25 But when He was in Jerusalem during the Passover Feast, many believed in His name [identified themselves with His party] after seeing His signs (wonders, miracles) which He was doing. 24 But Jesus [for His part] did not trust Himself to them, because He knew all [men]; 25 And He did not need anyone to bear witness concerning man [needed no evidence from anyone about men], for He Himself knew what was in human nature. [He could read men's hearts.]  [1 Sam 16:7.] AMP

Jesus knows what is in man’s heart. From a timeline perspective we can see that at this point in time there was still corruption in the temple, but a different kind of corruption than in Solomon’s temple. All the years of captivity taught the people something, but unfortunately it was not enough for the religious leaders to be watching for the Messiah. Jesus’ time on earth was not only about the living, it was also about setting free the captives, the dead who were redeemed. The devil lost the keys to hell and death when Jesus went into the grave and witnessed to the imprisoned spirits, which was the first part of Jesus’ plan in coming to earth. The second part was to set free the living so that they could also be redeemed. While regular people believed on Jesus, it was not just about the short time period Jesus spent here on earth, once he left and because he left, we became the temple.  http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2013/09/eden-garden-of-god-jesus-plan-for-lower.html

The Holy Spirit has a permanent dwelling within the redeemed. That makes us holy. Paul says this:

1 Cor 3:16-17 Do you not discern and understand that you [the whole church at Corinth] are God's temple (His sanctuary), and that God's Spirit has His permanent dwelling in you [to be at home in you, collectively as a church and also individually]? 17 If anyone does hurt to God's temple or corrupts it [with false doctrines] or destroys it, God will do hurt to him and bring him to the corruption of death and destroy him. For the temple of God is holy (sacred to Him) and that [temple] you [the believing church and its individual believers] are. AMP

You are the temple of Yahweh. The Holy Spirit dwells in you. Picture again the floorplan of the temple. Jesus is in the outer courts, men are in the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies, but now this floorplan resides in you. Kick the men out, and allow Jesus and the Holy Spirit to reside in your inner most being.

1 Cor 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, 20 You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body. AMP

You are the temple of the living God, his name is Yahweh. Does it seem worthless to do obligatory works, rites, and rituals when in the deepest inner most part of you resides Yahweh?

2 Cor 6:16 What agreement [can there be between] a temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in and with and among them and will walk in and with and among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. [Ex 25:8; 29:45; Lev 26:12; Jer 31:1; Ezek 37:27.] AMP

The veil of the temple tore from top to bottom when Jesus died, opening the very secret places men inhabited. The curtain that separated the regular people from Yahweh was torn open, now everyone could see into the Holy of Holies. It was not a secret place any longer.

Mark 15:37-38 And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed out His life. 38 And the curtain [of the Holy of Holies] of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. AMP

Matt 27:50-53 And Jesus cried again with a loud voice and gave up His spirit. 51 And at once the curtain of the sanctuary of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; the earth shook and the rocks were split. [Ex 26:31-35.] 52 The tombs were opened and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep in death were raised [to life]; 53 And coming out of the tombs after His resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many people. AMP

Luke 23:43-46 And He answered him, Truly I tell you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise. 44 It was now about the sixth hour (midday), and darkness enveloped the whole land and earth until the ninth hour (about three o'clock in the afternoon), 45 While the sun's light faded or was darkened; and the curtain [of the Holy of Holies] of the temple was torn in two. [Ex 26:31-35.] 46 And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit! And with these words, He expired. [Ps 31:5.] AMP

Not only did Jesus free people from hades, taking them to paradise; he opened the way into the temple. You are the temple, within you Jesus the Passover lamb resides. There is no earthly temple other than the people who believe in Jesus as Messiah. The fight between the religious leaders and Jesus’ followers is over because there is no earthly temple for religious people to atone for sin. Jesus clearly tells us that to enter into either of His kingdom’s he needs to know us. It is not the rites, rituals, or works of men that get us into the kingdom of heaven or the kingdom of God, it is the relationship that we have with Him that allows us entry. Passover is not necessary to observe for atonement. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob did not have a temple, nor did they observe Passover, and yet they are going to enter both the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God. Not only that, the last will enter first because the people who live in the last days, enter the kingdom of God by faith, not obligatory works. Does Jesus know you? Do you rely on the rituals of men or do you have faith in Jesus the Messiah alone?

Virgins with Lamps; Faith on Earth; Talents and Minas; Two Kingdoms; The Blueprints Revealed

Jesus’ stories, parables, and riddles leave us with a better perspective since we studied the timing regarding those taken and left, or the received and sent away, along with the function of the eagles and angels.  Now let’s review a few more stories and comparisons to gain a better perspective of what Jesus was telling us. We have been given the plans and blueprints for the future so let’s dive in. It would be helpful to read along with a Bible as we look into these mysterious sayings that Jesus had for us.

After Jesus tells his disciples about those received and those sent away, and that the eagles will gather those who will be sent away, he goes on to tell his disciples a parable so that they would understand that all people should pray and not give up. Jesus gives them this comparative story so that people, especially in the days of the tribulation just before his return to earth, will stay steady. He says there is a judge and a widow conversing. The judge is not fearful of God and does not regard men. He essentially has power as a judge and is not concerned with rules or laws. He can randomly rule in whatever way he wants. That is how people see Yahweh. People have been mistakenly led to believe that if there is a God, he randomly does whatever he wants without regard for anything or anyone. There is also a widow who feels she has been wronged by someone and she is comparable to people who feel that a God who behaves in random ways will listen the more they nag. The judge gets tired of the nagging widow and decides to help her so she won’t wear him down. Jesus then says:

Luke 18:7 And will not [our just] God defend and protect and avenge His elect (His chosen ones), who cry to Him day and night? Will He defer them and delay help on their behalf? AMP

Remember the order of events. The eagles gather the martyrs, the elect are gathered by the angels at the end of the tribulation, and the eagles gather those sent away. The elect are those left on earth, or who have died (not martyred) during the tribulation, who do not take the mark of the beast or bow to his image. Those people who are going through the tribulation should be crying out to God, nagging him. God will avenge them. This is not to the redeemed because the redeemed are not on earth at this time. This is not for the martyrs during the tribulation because they are not on earth once they are martyred. This idea of praying and not fainting is written to those who will be received, the ones the angels gather. But Jesus asks a question that makes a very powerful statement.

Luke 18:8 I tell you, He will defend and protect and avenge them speedily. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find [persistence in] faith on the earth? AMP

Jesus says that those people left on the earth during the tribulation, who are crying out to God will be avenged. But when Jesus comes to the earth at the end of the tribulation with his armies, will he find faith on the earth? Will he find faithful people praying on the earth? This is a good question. In those last days before Jesus comes, people will start to recognize that the leader they thought was a great leader for Israel is really a self-serving pawn of the devil. At that time, people will be faced with the decision to accept Jesus as their Lord. Remember the redeemed are not on earth at this time. That means if one publically declares Jesus as Lord, that one will be killed. How many will be murdered who finally have come to believe on Jesus? While we do not know the exact number, we do know that there is a certain number of people that has to be fulfilled. The martyrs in Revelation ask when they will be avenged, they are told they will be avenged when the number is fulfilled. However, there will be pockets of people who live on the earth who have not been martyred, but again remember that these are not the redeemed. These people did not believe on Jesus before the tribulation started, they believed on Jesus after the tribulation started. So Jesus’ question is interesting because he is stating there will be very few left on earth who are faithful. Again, the only people left on earth during the tribulation are those who did not believe on Jesus before the harpazo. Instead they believe on Jesus after the harpazo. In Luke 19 we will see how these people are judged when he returns, and we will look at that in a bit.

As part of Jesus’ conversation with the disciples regarding his coming in Matthew 24, we looked at the three questions the disciples asked him. 1) When will the temple be destroyed? 2) When will Jesus come at the end of the tribulation (parousia)? 3) When is the end of the age when heaven and earth pass away? Jesus answered their questions and explained that before his coming the eagles gather the martyrs, and then he will come. At that time the angels will gather the elect from all over the earth and heaven, and people will either be received or sent away. We know from Luke that the eagles gather the sent away people to hades for one thousand years. Jesus is explaining the kingdom of heaven and compares the received ones as faithful servants who are promoted. He then goes on to define the sent away ones as people who were evil servants who are sent to the place of weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then Jesus explains the kingdom of heaven as ten virgins.

First of all, the virgins are unmarried women. Jesus’ comparison is not that these ladies did not have husbands and the kingdom of heaven is only for single women. The comparison is that there are wise people who enter and foolish people who do not. The word for wise means “perceptive and thinking ahead”. The word for stupid is probably where we get our modern word moron; it means “blockheaded or stupid”.

Matt 25:2Five of them were stupid (thoughtless, without forethought) and five were wise (sensible, intelligent, and prudent). AMP

NT:3474 moros (mo-ros'); probably from the base of NT:3466; dull or stupid (as if shut up), i.e. heedless, (morally) blockhead, (apparently) absurd: KJV - fool (-ish,  -ishness).(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

NT:5429 phronimos (fron'-ee-mos); from NT:5424; thoughtful, i.e. sagacious or discreet (implying a cautious character; while NT:4680 denotes practical skill or acumen; and NT:4908 indicates rather intelligence or mental acquirement); in a bad sense conceited (also in the comparative):KJV - wise (-r).(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. This is the comparison, between the smart and the stupid who both have the same opportunity to enter into the kingdom of heaven. The custom of the day was that when a couple was to be married, the groom would build an addition to his family’s home for his bride to be. When it was finished and the groom’s father approved of the work, the groom would go out to get his bride to be. This was a surprise to the bride, but as he goes out to get her, family and friends all hear and make a procession and line the streets because when he gets his bride that’s when the party starts. As people waited along the streets to join the procession, they had their lamps so that they could see, since this usually took place at night. Using an oil lamp means one has to have oil. Prepared ahead of time, the smart ladies took oil and the stupid ladies did not. Today, some women carry big purses to be prepared for whatever may happen. The obvious understanding is that if you are carrying an oil lamp you will need oil to keep it lit.

Matt 25:5 While the bridegroom lingered and was slow in coming, they all began nodding their heads, and they fell asleep. AMP

In Jesus’ story, he says it took a while for the bridegroom to come, so everyone slumbered and slept. That literally means they nodded off and fell asleep. Now there is nothing wrong with the ladies for falling asleep. Sleeping is not preventing anyone from the kingdom of heaven. In the middle of the night someone announced that the bridegroom was coming. The ladies all woke up and turned on their lamps. Just like today when our flashlight batteries die we replace them with new batteries, some of the ladies were not prepared and could not turn on their lights/lamps and wanted to borrow some oil/batteries. The smart ladies suggested the stupid ones go get some oil from the vendors at the “all night oil lamp store”.

Matt 25:9 But the wise replied, There will not be enough for us and for you; go instead to the dealers and buy for yourselves. AMP

This tells us Jesus’ time frame. Jesus is giving us the timing of this event by letting us know that one can freely buy and sell. If this were taking place during the tribulation, the wise and stupid ladies would all have to have the mark of the beast, and most likely if they did not they would be martyred for trying to buy oil without the mark. Since the wise ladies had oil, they must have been shopping at a time before the tribulation. Jesus already told the disciples all of the events about the tribulation period, but here he is telling the disciples something that happens before the tribulation period. Incidentally, I’ve heard the most ridiculous stories regarding this section of Jesus’ discussion with the disciples. Don’t listen to people who make up ridiculous interpretations to further their religion. It’s all very plain. The timing of this event does not take place during the tribulation. The timing of this event is before the tribulation as we will note in the context shortly.

Matt 25:10 But while they were going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were prepared went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. AMP

While the stupid ladies went to buy some oil, the bridegroom came, and all those that were prepared went into the wedding party and they shut the door. We need to understand this in context of that time because today we simply open doors when they are shut. This tells us that once the door was shut they were not opening it again, meaning everyone had a narrow time to enter and those who were prepared did enter. Compare this to the door that opens in heaven in Revelation 4. If you miss entering through this door at that time, there is no other way in. One can cry out to the bridegroom but it’s too late. Sometimes in life we have a narrow window of time in which to accomplish something, and here the consequences of missing the window of opportunity leaves people outside the party.

Matt 25:11-12 Later the other virgins also came and said, Lord, Lord, open [the door] to us! 12 But He replied, I solemnly declare to you, I do not know you [I am not acquainted with you]. AMP

Notice that the stupid ladies called the bridegroom “Lord, Lord”. Using that word twice suggests that they are pleading emotionally, but the bridegroom did not know them. The smart ladies must have known the bridegroom, but both smart and stupid people were invited to the kingdom of heaven. The stupid people are not naturally born this way, they are lazy and think they do not have to do things Jesus’ way. Because the smart people were prepared, they knew the bridegroom and entered into His kingdom. The stupid ones wanted a special dispensation to enter the kingdom of heaven in their own way at their own time. Their boldness in knocking on the door and asking to enter shows that either they are both simple and ignorant, or they had a narcissistic entitlement issue. Just because one wants something doesn’t mean they are entitled to it. And just because one asks for special favor does not mean one receives special favor. Those who are redeemed are those who prepared by getting to know Jesus. That is clear and simple.

At the time when everyone was on the roadside waiting for the bridegroom, we see a glimpse of the stupid people’ attitudes when they ask to have some oil. There is no quick fix to preparedness, and it is possible that the attitude of the stupid people is that they rely on other people rather than thinking ahead for themselves, and because they want the quick fix, the bridegroom does not know them. Think of it this way, once Jesus calls from the clouds, the door opens, and the redeemed leave. If someone thinks they can put off making Jesus Lord until he calls, the reality is that they cannot. At this point the stupid people are begging to be let in to the kingdom, but only the ones who spent time preparing have entered. This is what the kingdom of heaven is like. It is like prepared and unprepared people who are all invited, but only the prepared ones enter. The people of Jesus’ time would have understood this analogy as they would have always had to plan on having and taking oil if they were going somewhere at night. They would have recognized the importance of entering the kingdom of heaven by preparedness because they don’t know when the door will open to the kingdom, just like a wedding of that time period no one knew when the party would start.

Matt 25:13 Watch therefore [give strict attention and be cautious and active], for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of Man will come. AMP

Once the unprepared ones were left outside, they probably returned to their homes with the realization that they missed the party. These are people who knew who Jesus was but they had not prepared to enter His kingdom, the kingdom of heaven. This is a shame but each individual makes those choices. It is by His grace we are saved but it is not “works” to know Jesus. It is not “works” to look ahead and be prepared. Making Jesus Lord before he calls in not entering the kingdom by works. In our day, when we leave our home we take our house key. That is simple. If we drive our car we take our driver’s license. In the first century when one carried an oil lamp one took oil. It would not be a surprise when the oil lamp goes out because people used them all the time and knew how much oil one would need to keep it lit all night long. Which brings us to Jesus’ next example in Matthew.

We have to note the “kingdom of heaven” and the “kingdom of God” are two different kingdoms. The kingdom of heaven is for those who will go to heaven at the harpazo, the redeemed. The story of the virgins sets us up with this understanding by giving us the time frame of people outside when the door of heaven opens. The door of heaven opens when Jesus calls from the clouds. That is the timing of the kingdom of heaven. Remember humans are not in heaven yet, the dead are either in hades or paradise until the dead rise. Where do the dead rise to? Heaven. That is when the kingdom of heaven comes.

The kingdom of heaven is similar to a man who travels to a far country and just before he goes he gives his servants some money to keep his place running. Now this man we are talking about in Matthew 25:14 gives money to each one according to that ones’ own dunamis.

Matt 25:15 To one he gave five talents [probably about $5,000], to another two, to another one — to each in proportion to his own personal ability. Then he departed and left the country. AMP

NT:1411 dunamis (doo'-nam-is); from NT:1410; force (literally or figuratively); specially, miraculous power (usually by implication, a miracle itself): KJV - ability, abundance, meaning, might (-ily, -y, -y deed), (worker of) miracle (-s), power, strength, violence, mighty (wonderful) work. (Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

That’s strange. While ability is an acceptable translation, really it is not simple physical or mental ability but miraculous abilities. In other words, comparing the coming kingdom of heaven to Jesus himself, Jesus leaves earth and gives his bond servants, those who have committed to Him, spiritual aptitudes according to one’s own inherent power. Some servants were more skilled at the master’s work than others, so it stands to reason that those who worked hard in the master’s business and had been working there longer had more to work with in his absence than those who had only been working for the master a short time. So ability is attributed to the amount of time one serves, meaning the longer one serves faithfully the more adept one’s dunamis becomes. Dunamis is also translated power many times in the text which, by this context, tells us our dumamis, our miracle working power, can grow. This is for those who will enter the kingdom of heaven, remember that is our subject.

There was one servant who only received one of his lord’s talents and he concealed it in the ground. Whose spiritual money was it? It was the Master’s. The servant didn’t use it, but concealed it. After a long time the Master comes home and reconciles the impartation he gave his servants and he finds that the one servant who had the one coin was not as committed of a servant as the Master thought. The man’s reasoning for concealing the one coin is that he was afraid, phobeo. Jesus gives us an impartation and some are afraid to use it, and on the day Jesus comes to open the door to the kingdom of heaven those who have used what Jesus gave them will be given greater responsibilities. Those who hid their impartation are thrown into the outer darkness with weeping and gnashing of teeth. The Master calls the man wicked and slothful and says that this man knew all about the Master. This indicates that when Jesus calls the redeemed, those on the outside of the door, like the stupid unprepared people from our last comparison, will not enter into the joy of the Lord. Like a wedding party, some who think they know the Master or the bridegroom, but do not prepare themselves, and use what he has given them, will find themselves on the outside of the joyful party of the Lord. The unprofitable servant is thrown out into exterior obscurity where there is crying and tooth grinding.

Matt 25:30 And throw the good-for-nothing servant into the outer darkness; there will be weeping and grinding of teeth. AMP

I think we are sometimes horrified to think that the kingdom of heaven is not for everyone as a happy all inclusive club med vacation. Jesus is specifically explaining the kingdom of heaven and that is for the redeemed. The lazy servant may have known about Jesus, but may not have made him Lord; and like the unprepared ladies he might have thought he could simply say a few magic words as the gathering occurs. In both stories, they may have even been waiting for him with a short cut version of preparedness or a knowledge of what he requires, but they still want to do things their own way. The Holy Spirit is on the earth to lead everyone to Jesus. The more one knows Him the more spiritual in-filling one has. The question becomes, how much have you grown spiritually?

It is not up to us to decide how we will be redeemed, it is up to Jesus to decide who is redeemed and how they are redeemed. He bought us with his own blood, and even if we were on the clearance rack or the scratch and dent pile, he bought us. He is bringing a moving van and a few angels to bring us into the kingdom of heaven. We don’t determine who enters into the kingdom of heaven, we do not have that authority. Religious institutions are profitable, self-serving, and misleading by not telling people the truth, but instead falsely assuring everyone goes to heaven. If you know Him, like Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, you can be redeemed. Those men knew Yahweh before the law was ever given. Remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 8:11. From these two comparative stories we see that the redeemed have prepared themselves, and they know the bridegroom because they have grown spiritually. They have been given a bit of the Master’s wealth and they utilize it to increase his capital by increasing their own spirituality. This is a spiritual, miracle working talent

Luke 19 is a different story all together but it has some similar points as Matthew’s story. Luke’s story is about the kingdom of God., not the kingdom of heaven.  We can see the differences in the details regarding this subject. Most people want to make these two stories the same and that creates all kinds of problems in the details. The kingdom of heaven is for the redeemed and is a happy place where faithful servants are set over many things. It is a joyful occasion. As we will see, the kingdom of God is a place where good servants are given exousia, exercised authority over cities. This is not because of spiritual talents but physical abilities. Let’s explore.

Luke 19:11 Now as they were listening to these things, He proceeded to tell a parable, because He was approaching Jerusalem and because they thought that the kingdom of God was going to be brought to light and shown forth immediately. AMP

The disciples were thinking that the kingdom of God would appear immediately and Jesus had to explain that there would be a period of time before he comes for his servants. These servants are different than the ones talked about in Matthew. The disciples thought that once he died and rose the kingdom would come. From Matthew, the kingdom of heaven comes first, and then later the kingdom of God will come.

So Jesus’ story in Matthew is of a man who leaves the country with his servants in charge, while in Luke the man is a prince or king, a nobleman. Both show not only the idea of time but the idea of activity on the part of the servants.

Luke 19:12-13 He therefore said, A certain nobleman went into a distant country to obtain for himself a kingdom and then to return. 13 Calling ten of his [own] bond servants, he gave them ten minas [each equal to about one hundred days' wages or nearly twenty dollars] and said to them, Buy and sell with these while I go and then return. AMP

This story is about a nobleman, someone who was born into a rank or position, like a prince or king. This man gave ten servants one mina each, which is about three months’ salary. In this story everyone got the same amount, it was not based on dunamis, ability. That makes this story and the servants a bit different. Once the nobleman left, the citizens who hated him sent him a message that they didn’t want him to be their leader.

Luke 19:14 But his citizens detested him and sent an embassy after him to say, We do not want this man to become ruler over us. AMP

After the ruler came back to town he called all the servants and asked them how much money they gained.

Luke 19:16-17 The first one came before him, and he said, Lord, your mina has made ten [additional] minas. 17 And he said to him, Well done, excellent bond servant! Because you have been faithful and trustworthy in a very little [thing], you shall have authority over ten cities. AMP

Jesus says the same thing here as in Matthew, that those who have will be given. That is the same, in both stories. The servant who did not make money for the nobleman was called wicked. In Matthew’s story the man was called unprofitable and thrown into the outer darkness with weeping and gnashing of teeth. In Luke’s story however Jesus says that immediately after taking the mina from the wicked servant, to bring those enemies and slaughter them. Those are very strong words.

Luke 19:26-27 And [said Jesus,] I tell you that to everyone who gets and has will more be given, but from the man who does not get and does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 27 [The indignant king ended by saying] But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them — bring them here and slaughter them in my presence! AMP

Let’s put this into context. Jesus is the nobleman who leaves and gives his servants the same amount of money. This is not based on dunamis abilities. That means these are different servants. People who may not have dunamis, inherent miracle working power.  All these servants get something that can result in returns if they utilize what they are given. The servants who multiply their money are given authority over cities by Jesus. Those servants who do not multiply the money they are given are called “wicked”, and Jesus seems to imply that they, along with Jesus’ enemies, will be slaughtered. This is what Jesus comes back to do with His armies on the Day of the Lord. The kingdom of God comes after all the servants have an opportunity to do something with what they have been given. It is a comparison story so it is not about money, but it is similar to multiplying money. Since everyone gets the same thing, there is no one individual better than another, which means these people are judged by more physical objectives rather than spiritual objectives like the Matthew account.

The people that sent the delegate to tell the nobleman they did not want him to be their ruler are the same people who reject Jesus’ Lordship yesterday, today, and tomorrow. All people are technically servants of the creator, but these people reject their creator. In the tribulation many will make the choice to serve the beast. But when Jesus comes he will slay them.

Comparing the two kingdoms, the kingdom of heaven is a joyful time coming before the tribulation. It is the time that all the redeemed, on earth and in paradise, get called up to heaven. Those who were unprepared or lazy will not be called up, even if they know who Jesus is, they must be faithful servants. Jesus calls the servants who have increased their talents “good and faithful”. The kingdom of God is the time when a new reign is established at the end of the tribulation. When Jesus comes on the Day of the Lord with his armies there will be those received and those sent away, and the people who didn’t want Jesus to be their king will be sent away, slaughtered by his sword as in Revelation 19:21. While the principal for both groups of people is the same, those who increase what has been given to them will receive more, the kingdom of heaven people rule over many things and enter the joy of their Lord, while the kingdom of God people gain authority over cities on earth in the new kingdom. These stories on the surface look the same, but as we can see they really are not.

With this in mind, Jesus’ original question at the beginning of our study was “will he really find faith on earth?” There will be some faithful left on the earth, but the majority of faithful people will be gathered before the tribulation, those are the redeemed who have prepared and were willing to use the spiritual impartation given to them according to their own dunamis.

Jesus’ stories are not mysterious, or dark sayings, or riddles. They are very plain stories that tell us who, what, and when; but religious leaders have not taught this and have mixed up Jesus’ words. The details are always important and the Holy Spirit authored the writers to give us these details. If we can continue to study with these details in mind, Jesus’ words will open up to us all the things we thought were mysteries and hard sayings. The future plans for all humanity are laid out plainly. It is now our obligation to tell all people what Jesus told us, regardless of whether they receive Jesus as Lord or not. There is a design for the future, it is not a mystery; it is a clear blueprint, written to us and for us. It is best to be prepared.
