Hope, Setting Our Eyes on the Apocalypse, Expectation, Shelter, & Refuge

Why do so many people feel hopeless? Christians and non-Christians alike seem to wallow in doom and gloom. Are we looking in the wrong place for hope? Are we misaligning our hope to things other than the only one who can give us hope? Taking a global look at hope, the first thing we notice is that the Torah, the first five books of Moses, do not mention hope. This is interesting. While Job was written before Moses penned Genesis, hope is not mentioned in Moses’ books. The Torah is not a book of hope. Yet hope is a main theme of Job. The obvious observation is that Job speaks of hard times for an individual who is looking to God, while the Torah is history and instruction for the people coming out of Egypt who were living the hope of entering a promised land. As times changed, hope changed as well. The hope of the Promised Land gave way to living in peace surrounded by enemies, which gave way to the Messiah, which gave way to the Messiah’s return. Hope is not stagnant, it flows and changes with the ages, times, and dispensations. To hope is to wait patiently for something expected. It is to look ahead to something exciting. It is assurance or a refuge of security or trust.

Faith and hope go together. Our faith is confidence in the legal and binding document, the Bible, that something will take place in the future. We are confident because we have the agreement. Hope is the expectation of the fulfillment of the agreement. If one were to sell one’s home, an agreement is reached, then after several days the sale goes through. The time period between the agreement and the close of the purchase is the time of hope.

Heb 11:1 NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. AMP

The books that were written to us are our legal binding agreement. If we adhere to its principal obligations we can hope for the things promised. Solomon says this:

Wisdom 3:1-5 But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and there shall no torment touch them.2 In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die: and their departure is taken for misery,3 And their going from us to be utter destruction: but they are in peace.4 For though they be punished in the sight of men, yet is their hope full of immortality.5 And having been a little chastised, they shall be greatly rewarded: for God proved them, and found them worthy for himself. KJV

Hope is in full immortality. Paul tells us that those who died will not spend eternity in the grave, as the corruptible body will put on incorruption and the mortal human will put on immortality. Though we suffer as aliens and foreigners on earth, Christians are not of this world and are not subject to eternal death, but instead of eternal life. While we live here we are persecuted on all sides, but that is simply because the devil insists on tormenting humans who commit mutiny against his kingdom. We have to recognize that that will happen so that we strengthen ourselves with the knowledge of our eternal hope. There are several words that are translated hope in the Bible; let’s look at a few.

OT:3176 yachal (yaw-chal'); a primitive root; to wait; by implication, to be patient, hope: KJV - (cause to, have, make to) hope, be pained, stay, tarry, trust, wait.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Ps 31:24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope [3176] in the Lord. KJV

David writes that God will strengthen our hearts. Our hope, or waiting, is in the Lord, not for deliverance but for strength. If we come under spiritual pressure we can be brave because God will strengthen our heart.

Ps 33:18-22 Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope [3176] in his mercy;19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.20 Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield.21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.22 Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we hope [3176] in thee. KJV

In the time period David was writing, people were looking for the Messiah to come. In the meantime, they trusted in God’s mercy to help them through difficulties. Declaring God as our armor, we can rejoice in Him because he delivers our souls from death. It doesn’t mean we won’t die, it means we won’t stay dead. Remember Jesus’ mission was to the righteous dead as well as to the living. Jesus set the righteous dead free because they were not supposed to be held in a separate part of hades called Abrahams Bay or Creek. The righteous dead went to paradise after Jesus spent three days and three nights witnessing to the imprisoned spirits. Since that time, the righteous dead go directly to paradise because Jesus has the keys to hell and death. One day the dead in Christ will rise first and the living will join them in the air.

OT:4009 mibtach (mib-tawkh'); from OT:982; properly, a refuge, i.e. (objective) security, or (subjective) assurance: KJV - confidence, hope, sure, trust.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Ps 40:4 Blessed is that man that maketh the Lord his trust [4009], and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. KJV

Another way to translate hope is trust, and a better idea of this is communicated in the word refuge, a “guarded place”. Make the Lord your refuge, your safe place. We cannot trust the proud or the liar, but we have a safe house in the Lord. We take our concerns, problems, and frustrations to the Lord not to other people. Jeremiah says this in a stronger way.

Jer 17:5-8 Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope [4009] the Lord is.8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. KJV

Humans who trust in humans are cursed, and humans who trust in God are blessed because their refuge is Jehovah. When God told people to spread out over the earth, this is what he wanted, humans to trust in Him enough that He could be their hiding place. God wanted a spiritual connection with humans, giving humans’ safe harbor when they connect with Him. However, this simple principal evades humanity. Instead of living a life of hope or refuge in the Creator, humans live a life in parched places. If you are in a parched place, the devil will help to keep you there because you lack the relationship that comes with the knowledge of God the Creator as a safe place. You will not cease to bear fruit when your hope is in God. But think of the precarious position humans are in even today. God is our hope, but we don’t know the exact plan for the future in our human lives, but whatever happens with us isn’t important, we are safe in God. That is a hard pill for all people to swallow. Many people do their best to be in control of their lives and destiny, but hope in God is hope in the unknown for our specific time on earth. That scares people. Individually, we don’t know what tomorrow brings, but hope in God as our refuge gives us something to lean on. Hope for the future of the world and humanity is mapped out in the Bible.

OT:4268 machaceh (makh-as-eh'); or machceh (makh-seh'); from OT:2620; a shelter (literally or figuratively): KJV - hope, (place of) refuge, shelter, trust.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Ps 46:1 God is our refuge [4268] and strength, a very present help in trouble. KJV

One of the sons of Korah understood this idea and used a slightly different word which we translate hope, the word is shelter. A refuge is a place you are surrounded on all sides with forceful protection, but a shelter covers you like a house. Your house may not be guarded like a refuge, with armed guards or impenetrable walls and moats. The implication here is that God, as a shelter, gives one a place to rest, then that person can get back into the fight (which is life), while a refuge is an extended place to heal before returning to the spiritual battle humanity is surrounded by.

Isa 28:15-17 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge[4268], and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation, a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge[4268]of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. KJV

Isaiah’s comparison is the same as Jeremiah’s in that people think making a deal with the devil shelters them from evil, and while it does shield them from evil for a time, the people who do this are actually cursed. God will destroy their house of lies and expose them. If your hope is in a non-permanent dwelling, just like the man who built his house upon sand, it will fall down. How do we know if our hope is in a temporary edifice or a permanent one? We have the Bible to help us. We know the devil’s rule on earth is temporary, therefore selling out to the devil’s ways and then hoping for safety is foolish, yet people do it.

OT:8615 tiqvah (tik-vaw'); from OT:6960; literally, a cord (as an attachment [compare OT:6961]); figuratively, expectancy: KJV - expectation ([-ted]), hope, live, thing that I long for.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Jer 29:10-13 For thus saith the Lord, That after seventy years be accomplished at Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected [8615] end.12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. KJV

Our Heavenly Father is very merciful. Even after all the deals with the devil the Jews made, Jeremiah says that God will only exile them for seventy years, then they will call upon God and  it will be like they were attached with a cord. God will reel them in, that is their hope that when they call on God and pray, he will hear them and they will find Him. Have you ever seen the leashes that are sold for children? Usually the child has a harness or a wrist band, and the parent holds the other end of the leash so that the child can have some freedom to walk on their own without getting into too much trouble. So if a child who is leashed tries to run into the street or touch something dangerous, the parent can keep them safe. That is the connotation of this word. God allowed the Jews a seventy year leashed exile to find out just how bad life could be without Him. If we remember, Daniel was expecting the time of the seventy year exile to be over and he prayed and sought God for the people. Daniel was expectant, hopeful, for a return to Jerusalem.

The New Testament is the timeframe we live in and our hope is different. We are not in exile, nor are we awaiting return to a homeland or Promised Land from Babylon, Assyria, or Egypt. The Messiah has already come, and gone to prepare a place for his people. Therefore our expectancy or hope is in His calling us to join him. The next hope is for us coming back as his army to take rule on the earth. A further hope is in the millennial reign of Christ, and an even further hope is in a new heaven and earth.  Today, we anticipate the next step in the process for humanity, to be joined with the Lord.

NT:1679 elpizo (el-pid'-zo); from NT:1680; to expect or confide: KJV - (have, thing) hope (-d) (for), trust.

NT:1680 elpis (el-pece'); from a primary elpo (to anticipate, usually with pleasure); expectation (abstractly or concretely) or confidence: KJV - faith, hope.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Rom 5:1-9 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope [1680] of the glory of God.3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope[1680]:5 And hope [1680] maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. KJV

There are some very big points in Paul’s letter to the Romans. First, we are to rejoice in hope of the Glory of God. Why? Because we have been justified, legally we are vindicated and acceptable because we believe on Jesus Christ. Therefore we rejoice over the coming of Jesus in glory. Now comes the part we don’t like, we boast in tribulations. I’m sure we have all seen people who show off their physical scars, as if they were trophies, to prove how tough they have been. People comparing how many stiches to how many broken bones they have had seems silly, but that is what we are to do regarding the tough times we live through since we have been saved. Now there is a difference in self-imposed tribulation and non-self-imposed tribulation. If one juggles knives there are inherent hazards to that action; any harm, then, is self-imposed. Non-self-imposed tribulation is when someone simply walking down the street is skewered by a stray knife from a knife juggler. Non-self-imposed trials are executed by the devil, not God. Yet learning to endure trials helps us to become patient, which in turn helps us to gain experience which also causes us to anticipate Christ’s return. Because we are expecting Christ’s return, which is a legal surety, a guarantee, we do not need to be embarrassed. God is pouring out benevolence into our hearts via the Holy Spirit.

This is a key point. We have the generous infilling of the Holy Spirit. This leads our hearts to hope. The Holy Spirit is our earnest money on the future of Christ’s return. The Holy Spirit has only in-dwelt humans since ten days after Jesus left; Pentecost. The Holy Spirit is our deposit on the future. And not only that, we are justified, made acceptable, by Jesus’ blood and are saved from the wrath to come. That is a far better hope than simply returning to our previous city. Being saved from the wrath to come means just that; we are saved from the wrath of the Lamb and the wrath of God. That is a greater hope than simply rising when he calls from the clouds, because we know that the tribulation is a very harsh time on the earth designed to bring people to a decision either for or against Christ Jesus. Yet, because we have confessed Jesus to be our Lord we are saved from the wrath to come. Whatever tribulations the devil does to people here on earth at this time, it is not wrath, and it most certainly is not the wrath of God.

Rom 8:18-25 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed [apocalypse] in us.19 For the earnest expectation of the creature [creation] waiteth for the manifestation [apocalypse] of the sons of God.20 For the creature [creation] was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope [1680],21 Because the creature [creation] itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.24 For we are saved by hope [1680]: but hope [1680] that is seen is not hope [1680]: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope [1679] for?25 But if we hope [1679 ]for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. KJV

All of creation suffers, and all of creation waits with hope and expectancy for the sons of God to be revealed. Who are the sons of God? You and I, the people who believe on Jesus and make him Lord. All of the Creator’s creation groans and corrupts, and all of the Creator’s creation travails in pain along with the sons of God waiting for the day of Jesus’ apocalypse of the sons of God. What does that mean? There will be a day that Jesus comes with his armies and that will be the day the sons of God are revealed, it is the apocalypse, literally, the off-covering, or the day Jesus takes the covering off. The creation, the earth, will be put right and won’t be decaying and in pain any longer. There are people on earth today who are clandestine operatives, they are the sons of God. On earth, each person who confesses Jesus as Lord is an undercover guard to the humans and creation of earth. The sons of God on earth are not uncovered yet. One day the people who mocked Jesus will see the sons of God. Those who were used by the devil to be a thorn to others, will know who the true sons of God are. We all, all of the redeemed and all of creation, await for the unveiling of Jesus as Lord of lords and King of kings.  That is our hope. I imagine that after the rapture, we the redeemed will still be hoping for the revealing of Jesus on earth.

1 Thess 2:19-20 For what is our hope [1680], or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? 20 For ye are our glory and joy. KJV

Again Paul reiterates the same idea. Here he says his hope (and his fellow evangelists’ hope) is that the Thessalonians will be in the presence of Jesus at his coming to earth to punish the earth. Paul is looking ahead to the day Jesus comes with his armies, that is his hope, the expectancy that keeps him motivated to evangelize people. It might be that Paul’s hope for the Thessalonians (and all of Asia Minor) was due to the recognition that not all the redeemed come back as the army of Christ, the bride. Paul wanted them to have that vision. It isn’t enough just to confess Jesus as Lord but to live it until death.

1 Thess 4:13-14 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope [1680].14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. KJV

Here Paul tells them not to be like the unsaved who have no hope or expectancy for their future immortality. Paul is now directing their eyes to the present reality of those who died and are not in hades but in paradise. He is saying God will bring the dead with Jesus when he calls from the clouds. The unsaved have an end in their minds, death is an end and therefore they do not look forward to eternal life. The reality is we have eternal life but where we have it is determined by who we confess as Lord. Here Paul is dispelling the myth that only the living are called up when Jesus snatches people from the earth, but Paul is saying that the living do not precede the dead. Instead the dead redeemed rise first, and the living redeemed join them. This was a slight distortion that entered into the Thessalonian church, and Paul is setting the record straight. That is why we are to invite or invoke one another in these words. These words inspire hope, a clear expectation of what is to happen in the future.

The legal document, the Bible, is already established. Whether we believe it or not, is not the point. If we believe it, we have a token, the Holy Spirit, poured out in us. This is just a small piece of the puzzle, it proves to us that the rest is certain to come to pass. In the meantime if we stay faithful until the end, we will come back with Jesus. To Paul and all fellow evangelists, that is his hope, and joy, and crown of rejoicing. Imagine the party of celebration when the redeemed are called up. But don’t set your eyes on that only, set your eyes on coming back with the Lord on the Day of the Lord. That vision, that expectation, that hope, will help us to endure all trials on earth until that time. With patience we can endure living as persecuted aliens. And we can also laugh at our trials because we have a far better future. Set your eyes in the legal document, the Bible, there you will find your hope. But do not set your vision short. Hope for the gathering, but also hope for your own participation in the army of the Lord.

Using Bad People for Good, One World Government or New World Order

Nebuchadrezzar, aka Nebuchadnezzar, was not the kind of person that one would think God would call his servant, but in fact he did. There are many instances where God does use bad people for good. That does not mean God is sending the evil, the devil does that. As we have studied, God is not beating us up. God does use the evil within people as a resource to produce a better result. The devil has schemes and plans, and accuses us before the throne day and night. As we recently studied the four horsemen are keeping peace on the earth. Underneath the relative peace are evil plans for people. If one of those plans can be used for an intended purpose, God will allow it. For example, God used Nimrod to scatter the people over the earth. That is what God told people to do after the flood, but instead they did not spread out. Nimrod built a city and tower, and became a self-appointed ruler/god to the people as we studied last week. Because the people didn’t move out over the earth, God moved them by confusing their language. It is interesting because while it seemed like a bad thing to the people, it was really a good thing. God wanted people to rely on him, not rely on other men. Our example of someone who relied on God is Abraham. Abraham moved quite a number of times all by God’s direction to avoid famine and drought. See the Book of Jasher. Today, people simply can’t move if there is a drought, our system of living has become like Babylon, and our dependence towards men and government has grown.

Another clear example we have is Joseph. Joseph’s brothers were mad that Joseph had dreams and visions of his brothers bowing to him, and that he seemed to be his father’s favorite son. Yet God used Jacob’s son’s bad behavior to actually save their descendants. The many years Joseph spent imprisoned or as a servant were quite painful. However, it prepared him for his own future and the future of God’s people.

Gen 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. KJV

Even though Nebuchadrezzar seemed like a crazy man, God used him to fulfil his purpose. If you remember, there was male prostitution in the temple in Jerusalem alongside the glory of God for about 300 years. While God is merciful, he wanted the people to look to him for their sufficiency. He told the people through Jeremiah that they would go into captivity for 70 years.

Jer 25:8-14 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Because ye have not heard my words,9 Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the Lord, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.10 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the Lord, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.14 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands. KJV

God took the northern kingdoms, who were already in captivity, and Nebuchadrezzar, to make Judah a desolation. Why? Because Judah did not hear God’s words. The root problem which started with Nimrod was that people were not hearing God’s words. Oh, really they heard God’s words, but they did not heed them. Instead of doing what God said, they did what they wanted. That is the key to understanding the world system of Babylon. There is no compromising or negotiations with God, we humans can either obey or not. Not obeying comes with consequences, while obedience comes with blessing.

Habakkuk was a contemporary of Jeremiah. He speaks of the Chaldeans as bitter and hasty people who take possession of land that is not theirs. Yet, don’t miss this, God raised them up.

Hab 1:5-7 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.7 They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves. KJV

God used the Chaldeans for a purpose, someone needed to destroy the temple that had been so horribly defiled. Baruch tells us that is what the Chaldeans did.

Bar 1:1-2 And these are the words of the book, which Baruch the son of Nerias, the son of Maasias, the son of Sedecias, the son of Asadias, the son of Chelcias, wrote in Babylon,2 In the fifth year, and in the seventh day of the month, what time as the Chaldeans took Jerusalem, and burnt it with fire. KJV

It was the plan of God to put the people in a position to cry out to him. God wanted a personal relationship with his people, but people either turned to idols or became atheists. Abraham is our example, and even ancient people would put Abraham on a pedestal by claiming that Abraham was their father (Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob), yet Abraham did not have laws to live by, he lived by a heart relationship with God. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had a personal relationship with God. That should be our example today. When 70 years in captivity in Babylon was over, God used Cyrus to bring them back.

Isa 44:24-45:3 Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;25 That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;26 That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:27 That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid. 45:1 Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel. KJV

How strange, God used a guy who didn’t worship him to bring his people back to Jerusalem. God even called him his shepherd and said Cyrus was anointed. When Cyrus invaded Babylon and saw he was already written about, he was quite impressed with the God of Israel. Can you imagine opening a scroll only to find your name written in it from two hundred years ago, saying you are God’s shepherd? I would want to know who this God is who is writing about me.

Just in case we don’t recognize shadows and types, there is a big one here we should look at. Last week we read about Babylon being destroyed in the tribulation time period by the Medes, Isaiah 13. At the time of the writing Persia was called Elam. Elamites were originally descendants of Shem, we don’t know if Shemites still dwelt there in the time period of Babylon’s conquest when the Jews were finished with their 70 years of captivity. Elam is what we know as Persia. Cyrus was a Mede from his mother’s side and a Persian from his father’s side. Cyrus is a Medo-Persian. Cyrus took Babylon without a fight as Daniel tells us. What will happen again, in the tribulation, is that the Medes and Persians will overtake Babylon. Now if this is a shadow, then we also must realize that Jews being in Babylon in the future tribulation is a shadow of the past as well. We know that God calls his people to come out of Babylon in Revelation. Why are the Jews in Babylon today? It will make sense shortly.

This brings us to the realization that there is not a “one world government” until the very end of the tribulation when the beast destroys Babylon. Really, instead, today we are seeing a “new world order”. This N.W.O. is becoming more prevalent. I read a recent article that stated the United Nations considered it a human rights violation for a Detroit water company to turn off water to non-paying customers. Really? Since when does the UN weigh in on these matters? If someone does not pay their water bill they do not get water in the USA. That is how our free market society works. There is no obligation for a water company to provide water free of charge. Yet the United Nations thinks water companies should provide water regardless of getting paid? This type of Babylonian allegiance will become one side of a new world order where many countries unite in all the ways listed in Revelation 17&18. The other side is a more religious side which has many factions that do not get along. In fact they have been fighting each other for over one thousand years, but they will team up in the tribulation time to take over Babylon.

There are two very clear opposing governments in the tribulation, Babylon and the Beast. The Jews are among Babylon. There will be a wrestling within the Beast’s kingdom as there will be separate kingdoms that will ban together to form one alliance. Yet clearly they are noted as individual kingdoms that are the ten horns that are of one mind and give their power and authority to the beast. What we know today is that someone from the Medo-Persian Empire will join those two factions, the Medes and the Persians, to kill Babylon. That is what God inspires the Beast to do. The “One World Government” will be a forced allegiance, enforced by the sword. That is when Jesus comes with his armies and destroys the beast. After that time, the Day of the Lord, there will be a New World Order and a One World Government with Jesus in charge. Daniel tells us via an angel that there are six reasons Israelites ended up in this position until Jesus would come which was 30 A.D or so.

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression (1), and to make an end of sins(2), and to make reconciliation for iniquity (3), and to bring in everlasting righteousness (4), and to seal up the vision and prophecy (5), and to anoint the most Holy (6). KJV

Seventy sevens (490 years) are determined to do these six things. Unfortunately, Jesus was rejected as Messiah. What people had been looking for is for the Messiah to restore the kingdom. Yet Jesus accomplished a way to everlasting righteousness, he opened the kingdom of heaven. Now it may indeed look as if the Israelites blew it again by rejecting Jesus. And they did. However by rejecting Jesus, the door was open into the kingdom of heaven for the non-descendants of Jacob. Everyone on earth has an opportunity to enter in by believing Jesus is the Messiah. This is another example of using evil for good, however the Israelites would probably not see it that way. They could have been the elect nation that instructed the world regarding God. But Paul says their hearts are hardened until the number of Gentiles is fulfilled, Romans 11. Jesus said this:

Luke 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. KJV

God used a Roman, Titus Vespasian, to destroy Jerusalem. On the one hand, we can gather this to be a longer punishment than the 70 years in Babylon. These are the gap years Daniel tells us about. Technically, the Jews have been “in” Babylon ever since they returned to Jerusalem, because Jerusalem was overtaken by the Greeks, then the Romans, and eventually the Ottomans. Once the Israelites got their homeland back in 1948, which was won back for them by “Babylon” (figuratively the world system), “Babylon” has been helping them to share control of the region with the Palestinians. Israel allies itself with Babylon, while Babylon rides/controls the beast. The beast wants to kill both Israel and Palestine, but is held back by the New World Order of Babylon.

After Jesus was cut off, as Daniel puts it, Jerusalem was destroyed again. This continues until the war of the desolations are finished. Then someone rises to political power that seems like a savior to Israel. This anit-Christ will confirm the covenant, break the covenant, and make desolate until the consummation is poured out on the desolate, or the final punishment is poured out on the anti-Christ. We know from Paul’s writings that this anti-Christ will not just sit in the temple, but sit in the Holy of Holies. Remember how much care the priests used to have to take in entering into the Holy of Holies, complete with a rope around their ankle and bells on their clothes. Yet how is it that this anit-Christ person can not only enter into the Holy of Holies, but put his throne there? He doesn’t seem to need the bells on his clothing to let the people on the outside know he has stopped moving, and he doesn’t seem to need a rope on his ankles so someone can pull his dead body out, even though we know he is a sinful person. It seems God will be using this man of perdition to bring about another useful means, the crying out of Jerusalem for Jesus, specifically crying, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

While the destruction of Babylon happened once with Cyrus, it has never been completely desolate, people have always lived there. Prophecies of Babylon have been and will be fulfilled. In Revelation, Babylon’s ultimate destruction comes and Isaiah tells us her hidden secretes, her nakedness and shame will be uncovered.

Isa 47:1-6 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.4 As for our redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke 7And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments. KJV

The purpose of God’s people being given over to Babylon is for refining. The burden the Babylonian world system puts on God’s people is very heavy. Although God’s people are scattered all over the world, they are burdened, oppressed, and enslaved to this system. Look around the world, in every country there are burdened and enslaved people. Those are the people that Babylon has put a heavy yoke on. Yet Babylon doesn’t see herself as a harsh taskmaster or oppressor, but sees herself as a lady. In one day Babylon will be destroyed, the day the beast rises up and slaughters people so that the blood rises to the horses’ bridals and as long as 200 miles, Revelation 14:20. This is the wrath of God.

Isa 48:10-22 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.13 Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.14 All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The Lord hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord God, and his Spirit, hath sent me.17 Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:19 Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.20 Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob.21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.22 There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked. KJV

When the tribulation starts, many Jews will recognize Jesus is the Messiah, the I AM, the first and the last. By the end of the tribulation there will be a few Jews left, about one third will still be on earth when Jesus comes with His armies. Zechariah says two thirds will be killed, martyred. So the one third of the Jews on earth will rejoice when Babylon falls. But, after Jesus destroys the beast God’s people will increase again.

Jer 3:16-18 And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the Lord, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the Lord: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers. KJV

It is interesting to realize that the Ark of the Covenant will not be needed, instead the people will have a personal relationship with Jesus, the King. People will not walk after their own evil imaginations that come from their heart. They will not take on the attitudes of Babylon, which in part is the independence of their own will, but they will depend on Jesus. It will be a different age. A new dispensation. A New World Order. It hardly matters what man does to attempt to thwart the plans of God, God specifically set up times and seasons. The devil has control of the world and the spirits that go out to keep peace will have a change in their mission. They will stop keeping peace on the earth to allow a time on earth that will not be like any other. It will be a time of great distress to break the hardness of people’s hearts so that they will accept Jesus as Messiah and King. Israel’s redeemer has come, and will come again. In the meantime, there will continue to be a New World Order of Babylon, it will grow and strengthen and there will not be a one world government until the beast kills Babylon. Today, people live in either Babylon or the beast’s world system, regardless of religion, or race, or nation. Yet we can change our citizenship to the kingdom of God, and recognize that we are strangers and aliens until Jesus call us up or calls us home.

Conquest of Babylon; Atheism; Latter Days, Staying In and Coming Out of Arsareth

We can learn from ancient Babylon, and from Nimrod’s actions, so that we can better understand the destruction of the future Babylon. The parallel between ancient Babylon and the future Babylon deals with people turning away from God as a source of life. There were no atheists that survived the flood, therefore atheism started up again after the flood. There was a man in Ur named Nimrod who created a world system of rebellion against God by inspiring men to separate their lives from God. He twisted their belief system from dependence and fear of God to independence and reliance on Nimrod himself. Atheism. Instead of the people looking to God to sustain them, the people were perverted into looking to their government, who was Nimrod, to sustain them. Nimrod was going to protect them from God who sent the flood. This is the foundation of Babylon and its leaders.  Nimrod himself decided he was a mighty man, a gibbor.  He was a people oppressor, and controller. Our first look into history is to see what the first century people thought about Babylon. This is the lens through which John was writing the book of Revelation regarding the future tribulation period. Let’s read Josephus.

Josephus Book 1 Chapter 4.
CONCERNING THE TOWER OF BABYLON, AND THE CONFUSION OF TONGUES.
1. Now the sons of Noah were three, - Shem, Japhet, and Ham, born one hundred years before the Deluge. These first of all descended from the mountains into the plains, and fixed their habitation there; and persuaded others who were greatly afraid of the lower grounds on account of the flood, and so were very loath to come down from the higher places, to venture to follow their examples. Now the plain in which they first dwelt was called Shinar. God also commanded them to send colonies abroad, for the thorough peopling of the earth, that they might not raise seditions among themselves, but might cultivate a great part of the earth, and enjoy its fruits after a plentiful manner. But they were so ill instructed that they did not obey God; for which reason they fell into calamities, and were made sensible, by experience, of what sin they had been guilty: for when they flourished with a numerous youth, God admonished them again to send out colonies; but they, imagining the prosperity they enjoyed was not derived from the favor of God, but supposing that their own power was the proper cause of the plentiful condition they were in, did not obey him. Nay, they added to this their disobedience to the Divine will, the suspicion that they were therefore ordered to send out separate colonies, that, being divided asunder, they might the more easily be Oppressed.
2. Now it was Nimrod who excited them to such an affront and contempt of God. He was the grandson of Ham, the son of Noah, a bold man, and of great strength of hand. He persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it was through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny, seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence on his power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to be able to reach! and that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers !
3. Now the multitude were very ready to follow the determination of Nimrod, and to esteem it a piece of cowardice to submit to God; and they built a tower, neither sparing any pains, nor being in any degree negligent about the work: and, by reason of the multitude of hands employed in it, it grew very high, sooner than any one could expect; but the thickness of it was so great, and it was so strongly built, that thereby its great height seemed, upon the view, to be less than it really was. It was built of burnt brick, cemented together with mortar, made of bitumen, that it might not be liable to admit water. When God saw that they acted so madly, he did not resolve to destroy them utterly, since they were not grown wiser by the destruction of the former sinners; but he caused a tumult among them, by producing in them divers languages, and causing that, through the multitude of those languages, they should not be able to understand one another. The place wherein they built the tower is now called Babylon, because of the confusion of that language which they readily understood before; for the Hebrews mean by the word Babel, confusion. The Sibyl also makes mention of this tower, and of the confusion of the language, when she says thus: "When all men were of one language, some of them built a high tower, as if they would thereby ascend up to heaven, but the gods sent storms of wind and overthrew the tower, and gave every one his peculiar language; and for this reason it was that the city was called Babylon." But as to the plan of Shinar, in the country of Babylonia, Hestiaeus mentions it, when he says thus: "Such of the priests as were saved, took the sacred vessels of Jupiter Enyalius, and came to Shinar of Babylonia."

We understand that Babylon is a mystery. Babylon is spoken of as a woman, and a mega-city that rules and controls the kings of the earth. The woman rides the beast with something written on her forehead, “Mystery Babylon the Great, Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth”. Translated: “Secret Mega Confusion, Mother of Male and Female Prostitutes and Detestable Idolatry on the Globe”. The confusion was not just because God confused their language but also because Nimrod confused people regarding God. Nimrod made himself a god to the people, he was the provider and the one they needed to fear. Tyranny was the first form of government. Now that we understand the origins of this secret world system we can understand that Babylon merchandises, or prostitutes, people. The buying and selling of men’s souls. We can see the parallel to Lucifer who does the same. The idea that Babylon is a city is correct, but there is another element to explore. Babylon is a city system run by spiritual beings that have rebelled against God the Creator. They run the world in a manner that God disagrees with, and Lucifer is our window into this insight. Lucifer had sanctuaries and prospered off the backs of the beings he was in charge of. This is not God’s plan for humanity. Back to Babylon.

God gives Babylon a title and we have taken it to mean idolatrous religions. Religions are included in this abomination, but non-religion or atheism is also included. We picture Babylon as people worshiping idols, but non-religious people are included here as well because Babylon is about doing things for yourself, whatever you feel like doing. Therefore the blatant disregard for God which means “you are your own god”, so to speak, is prideful behavior that stems from Babylon. Understand that Babylon is truly the rejection of God and domination of a few people over others.

On earth Babylon rides the beast. What does this mean?  Babylon controls the beast, oppresses the beast, and governs the world’s economy until the beast rises up and kills Babylon. This system will continue in this manner until after the midpoint of the tribulation. The prophet Isaiah told us about Babylon’s end. The background just prior to chapter 13 is that in chapter 11, The Branch, Jesus, establishes the millennial reign. Jesus will bring back his people scattered around the world, Isaiah 11:11. Then chapter 12 is a song of praise. Chapter 13 starts another prophecy. Let’s read this in the Septuagint.

Septuagint, Isaiah Chapter 13
13:1 THE VISION WHICH ESAIAS SON OF AMOS SAW AGAINST BABYLON.2 Lift up a standard on the mountain of the plain, exalt the voice to them, beckon with the hand, open the gates, ye rulers.

This vision was against Babylon. In verse two, the context is referring to the Medes and Persians. The Medes today are also known as the Kurds, from Kurdistan and Luristan. The Kurds today are Muslims, but not necessarily Arabs.  This is who will be putting an end to Babylon.

13:3 I give command, and I bring them: giants are coming to fulfil my wrath, rejoicing at the same time and insulting.

The word giants is the word gibbor which is also translated mighty men. Just as Nimrod called himself. Some want to attribute this to the Nephilim, however, while Nephilim were large in size, they were called gibbor because they were dominators, or people who over took others and oppressed them. That does not mean that the word gibbor used here are people large in size. David’s men were called gibbor, meaning they were mighty warriors. Nimrod was probably not large in size but a smooth talking, people controller. God is saying he is sending gibbor, mighty warring conquerors, to break Babylon. Just as God used Cyrus for his purposes, God is using the Medes to achieve a purpose. This also tells us how close or how far we are, time wise, to that point in the tribulation. If you are alive during the tribulation, look for this.

13:4 A voice of many nations on the mountains, even like to that of many nations; a voice of kings and nations gathered together: the Lord of hosts has given command to a war-like nation, 5 to come from a land afar off, from the utmost foundation of heaven; the Lord and his warriors are coming to destroy all the world.

After Babylon is destroyed, the beast rallies the world to fight Jesus, which is the Day of the Lord, the day the Lord comes back to earth with his armies. He appoints set apart warriors to come with him. Sanctified warriors are part of the called, chosen, and faithful, who are of the redeemed that are caught up before the tribulation starts. As soon as Babylon falls, the Day of the Lord is close at hand.

13:6 Howl ye, for the day of the Lord is near, and destruction from God shall arrive. 7 Therefore every hand shall become powerless, and every soul of man shall be dismayed. 8 The elders shall be troubled, and pangs shall seize them, as of a woman in travail: and they shall mourn one to another, and shall be amazed, and shall change their countenance as a flame.

Really, the destruction will be so intense that people will be stunned. In verse 8 the word faces is used twice, it can be better understood as people will be stunned when looking at their friends’ faces, the faces will look like flames. Keep in mind, all the aspects of the tribulation come to bring people on earth to the point that they either accept or reject Jesus as Lord.

13:9 For behold! the day of the Lord is coming which cannot be escaped, a day of wrath and anger, to make the world desolate, and to destroy sinners out of it. 10 For the stars of heaven, and Orion, and all the host of heaven, shall not give their light; and it shall be dark at sunrise, and the moon shall not give her light.

This is the day that the sun will become dark which is a result of Revelation 18:21. Just before the Lord comes with his armies an angel throws a large millstone down to earth.

Joel 2:10-11 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:11 And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? KJV
Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come. KJV
Matt 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: KJV

Revelation 18:21 is a clue as to when the Day of the Lord is near. What we see in the next verses in Isaiah 13 is that God is punishing the prideful, God punished Lucifer because of pride and destroyed his planet, Rahab. Nimrod manipulated people into thinking they could live their lives without God, and Nimrod twisted people’s thinking to feel shame over relying on God. Where did Nimrod get that idea from?

13:11 And I will command evils for the whole world, and will visit their sins on the ungodly: and I will destroy the pride of transgressors, and will bring low the pride of the haughty. 12 And they that are left shall be more precious than gold tried in the fire; and a man shall be more precious than the stone that is in Suphir. 13 For the heaven shall be enraged, and the earth shall be shaken from her foundation, because of the fierce anger of the Lord of hosts, in the day in which his wrath shall come on. 14 And they that are left shall be as a fleeing fawn, and as a stray sheep, and there shall be none to gather them: so that a man shall turn back to his people, and a man shall flee to his own land. 15 For whosoever shall be taken shall be overcome; and they that are gathered together shall fall by the sword. 16 And they shall dash their children before their eyes; and they shall spoil their houses, and shall take their wives.

Look at the words “they that are left”. This tells us that the point of this tribulation and destruction of Babylon is to refine people. Whoever survives will be more precious than gold. Verse 15 says that the people on earth after Babylon’s destruction will be killed by the sword. Babies will be killed also. This happens in Jerusalem as well. Zechariah tells us the women will be raped in Jerusalem, but Isaiah says Babylon will suffer the same.

Zech 14:2For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. KJV

The word ravished appears in the Hebrew text of Isaiah 13:16, which means raped. This doesn’t sound like a great time on the earth. Babylon and Jerusalem will be under great distress. Who is doing the distressing? The Medes and Persians. Remember that the Lord calls his people out of Babylon in Revelation, this may be why they will suffer the same fate just before the Lord comes.

13:17 Behold, I will stir up against you the Medes, who do not regard silver, neither have they need of gold. 18 They shall break the bows of the young men; and they shall have no mercy on your children; nor shall their eyes spare thy children.

Isaiah tells us who will attack Babylon, the Medes. Other nations will rise up against Israel, but the Medes come against Babylon. The Medes cannot be bribed with money. This point tells us that some in Babylon think they may be able to escape this war if they bribe this people group.

13:19 And Babylon, which is called glorious by the king of the Chaldeans, shall be as when God overthrew Sodoma, and Gomorrha. 20 It shall never be inhabited, neither shall any enter into it for many generations: neither shall the Arabians pass through it; nor shall shepherds at all rest in it. 21 But wild beasts shall rest there; and the houses shall be filled with howling; and monsters shall rest there, and devils shall dance there, 22 and satyrs shall dwell there; and hedgehogs shall make their nests in their houses. It will come soon, and will not tarry.

Compare verses 21 and 22 with Revelation 18:2. Babylon, the earthly city, has always been inhabited. Therefore we know this is still future, when the only inhabitants will be wild animals. Also, no Arabians will pass through it for many generations, this tells us that in the millennial kingdom, when people go to Jerusalem to worship, they will not pass through Babylon. Babylon is the place where satan established his reign on the earth. If we remember what the devil told Jesus when Jesus was fasting in the desert, that he had possession of the kingdoms of the world. While tempting Jesus by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, we see that those things all existed in Babylon and were promoted by Nimrod.

Ezra had a dream about the latter days. There are several interesting aspects of this dream that coincide with Isaiah, Matthew 24, and Revelation.

2 Esd 13:1-13 And it came to pass after seven days, I dreamed a dream by night:2 And, lo, there arose a wind from the sea, that it moved all the waves thereof.3 And I beheld, and, lo, that man waxed strong with the thousands of heaven: and when he turned his countenance to look, all the things trembled that were seen under him.4 And whensoever the voice went out of his mouth, all they burned that heard his voice, like as the earth faileth when it feeleth the fire.5 And after this I beheld, and, lo, there was gathered together a multitude of men, out of number, from the four winds of the heaven, to subdue the man that came out of the sea6 But I beheld, and, lo, he had graved himself a great mountain, and flew up upon it.7 But I would have seen the region or place whereout the hill was graven, and I could not.8 And after this I beheld, and, lo, all they which were gathered together to subdue him were sore afraid, and yet durst fight.9 And, lo, as he saw the violence of the multitude that came, he neither lifted up his hand, nor held sword, nor any instrument of war:10 But only I saw that he sent out of his mouth as it had been a blast of fire, and out of his lips a flaming breath, and out of his tongue he cast out sparks and tempests.11 And they were all mixed together; the blast of fire, the flaming breath, and the great tempest; and fell with violence upon the multitude which was prepared to fight, and burned them up every one, so that upon a sudden of an innumerable multitude nothing was to be perceived, but only dust and smell of smoke: when I saw this I was afraid.12 Afterward saw I the same man come down from the mountain, and call unto him another peaceable Multitude.13 And there came much people unto him, whereof some were glad, some were sorry, and some of them were bound, and other some brought of them that were offered: then was I sick through great fear, and I awaked, and said,

Ezra asks for the interpretation of his dream. Take special note, Ezra speaks of those left behind in those days. Those who were not left behind on the earth, who died without God, were in heaviness. Going to hades leaves people in heaviness and sorrow. There are four categories of humans at this point in time; the redeemed who were caught up before the tribulation, the martyred that go to heaven, those who died not making Jesus their Lord and go to hades, and those who are left on earth through the tribulation who the angels gather. The mission of the redeemed is in heaven after the gathering, and they are witnessing the events of the tribulation and praying. An angel takes the prayers of the saints and hurls them to earth, Revelation 8. When the angels gather the elect, we see their emotions. These are the people who will be more precious than gold.

2 Esd 13:14 Thou hast shewed thy servant these wonders from the beginning, and hast counted me worthy that thou shouldest receive my prayer:15 Shew me now yet the interpretation of this dream.16 For as I conceive in mine understanding, woe unto them that shall be left in those days and much more woe unto them that are not left behind!17 For they that were not left were in heaviness.18 Now understand I the things that are laid up in the latter days, which shall happen unto them, and to those that are left behind.19 Therefore are they come into great perils and many necessities, like as these dreams declare.20 Yet is it easier for him that is in danger to come into these things, than to pass away as a cloud out of the world, and not to see the things that happen in the last days. And he answered unto me, and said,

The angel interprets the dream. There is a point here that we should not miss. Those on earth will be martyred for their belief in God, however others who are atheists will be killed as well. Atheists will have to bow to the beast or be killed. What happens during the tribulation if one dies for Jesus, that person goes to heaven. What happens during the tribulation when one dies for oneself? That person will await the resurrection of the dead for one thousand years, in hades.

2 Esd 13:21 The interpretation of the vision shall I shew thee, and I will open unto thee the thing that thou hast required.22 Whereas thou hast spoken of them that are left behind, this is the interpretation:23 He that shall endure the peril in that time hath kept himself: they that be fallen into danger are such as have works, and faith toward the Almighty.24 Know this therefore, that they which be left behind are more blessed than they that be dead.25 This is the meaning of the vision: Whereas thou sawest a man coming up from the midst of the sea:26 The same is he whom God the Highest hath kept a great season, which by his own self shall deliver his creature: and he shall order them that are left behind.27 And whereas thou sawest, that out of his mouth there came as a blast of wind, and fire, and storm;28 And that he held neither sword, nor any instrument of war, but that the rushing in of him destroyed the whole multitude that came to subdue him; this is the interpretation:29 Behold, the days come, when the most High will begin to deliver them that are upon the earth.30 And he shall come to the astonishment of them that dwell on the earth.31 And one shall undertake to fight against another, one city against another, one place against another, one people against another, and one realm against another.32 And the time shall be when these things shall come to pass, and the signs shall happen which I shewed thee before, and then shall my Son be declared, whom thou sawest as a man ascending.33 And when all the people hear his voice, every man shall in their own land leave the battle they have one against another.34 And an innumerable multitude shall be gathered together, as thou sawest them, willing to come, and to overcome him by fighting.35 But he shall stand upon the top of the mount Sion.36 And Sion shall come, and shall be shewed to all men, being prepared and builded, like as thou sawest the hill graven without hands.37 And this my Son shall rebuke the wicked inventions of those nations, which for their wicked life are fallen into the tempest;38 And shall lay before them their evil thoughts, and the torments wherewith they shall begin to be tormented, which are like unto a flame: and he shall destroy them without labour by the law which is like unto me.39 And whereas thou sawest that he gathered another peaceable multitude unto him;

There is a peaceable multitude that the Lord will gather after the tribulation at the start of the millennial reign. Isaiah 11:11 tells us a remnant of people come out of several places, including the islands of the sea. Let’s be clear, no one is lost, God knows exactly where they are. These people who migrated to other places whether by choice or enslavement are where they are because God wants them there. Remember the 144,000 are caught up mid-tribulation, which will be the first revealing as to where they have been. Let’s continue.

2 Esd 13:40 Those are the ten tribes, which were carried away prisoners out of their own land in the time of Osea the king, whom Salmanasar the king of Assyria led away captive, and he carried them over the waters, and so came they into another land.41 But they took this counsel among themselves, that they would leave the multitude of the heathen, and go forth into a further country, where never mankind dwelt,42 That they might there keep their statutes, which they never kept in their own land.43 And they entered into Euphrates by the narrow places of the river.44 For the most High then shewed signs for them, and held still the flood, till they were passed over.45 For through that country there was a great way to go, namely, of a year and a half: and the same region is called Arsareth.46 Then dwelt they there until the latter time; and now when they shall begin to come,

ARZARETH:
The name of the land beyond the great river, far away from the habitation of man, in which the Ten Tribes of Israel will dwell, observing the laws of Moses, until the time of the restoration, according to IV Esd. xiii. 45. Columbus identified America with this land. (See Kayserling's "Christopher Columbus," translated by Dr. C. Gross, p. 15.)
The name, it has been suggested by Schiller-Szinessy, is taken from Deut. xxix. 24-27, "Because they forsook the covenant of the Lord . . . and went and served other gods . . . the Lord rooted them out of their land . . . and cast them into another land [ereẓ aḦeret] as this day." This passage is made to refer (in Mishnah Sanh. x. 3) to the Ten Tribes (compare Tosef., Sanh. xiii. 12; Bab. ib. 110b; Yer. ib. x. 29c; Ab. R. N., ed. Schechter, A, xxxvi. 108, and Bacher, "Agada der Tannaiten," i. 143). But different opinions are expressed by Akiba and Eliezer—the traditions are rather confused as to the names—whether the Ten Tribes may be expected to return or not, since this point is not determined in the Scriptural verse. One of them takes the words "as this day" to signify that "as the day goeth, but doth not return, so shall they who are cast off not return"; the other explains the words: "as the day begins with the darkness of the night, but turns into day, so shall the darkness of their banishment be turned into bright daylight" (Mishnah Sanh. l.c.). The fourth Book of Esdras took the latter view, which was adopted also by R. Judah ha-Nasi in the Tosefta (l.c.), who refers to Isa. xxvii. 13.

Some consider Arsareth to be the Americas and the surrounding islands. There is a very strong case for the Native Americans/Original Americans being of the ten tribes. It may be that Christopher Columbus, who was Jewish, but because of the inquisition changed his religon, knew where he was going. Which is why he saw the Caribbean and the Americas as Arsareth. With this in mind we now have an answer to Markawasi, Peru, where Middle Eastern images in stone carvings were made by people who had seen and known those images. As African lions and Pharaoh’s never existed in South America, yet are carved in stone in Peru. Explorers “discovered” the Americas long before Columbus arrived, some of which were of the Knights Templar. And whether the ten tribes came over seas or land bridges, we have to read what Ezra says. They were taken captive into Assyria, but they eventually left on their own. They decided to go further out of the land of the heathens to Arsareth/Arzareth. They did not go as captives, they went because they chose to. There is a great amount of work that has been done on the subject. Suffice it to say, if Babylon is a cultural and monetary system associated with peoples that were conquerors, as well as religion and non-religion, we can see the depths of its influence which spread throughout the world.

Let’s remember Moses’ prophecy regarding what would take place if the Israelites did not observe all the words of the law.

Deut 28:64-68 And the Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the Lord shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:66 And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:67 In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.68 And the Lord shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you. KJV

Moses says God will bring them (the Israelites) out of captivity. In a way, God doesn’t need our help in this as God also tells us when that will be. If we send people to live in Israel now, we are only sending them into persecution. It would certainly be the plan of Lucifer to kill as many DNA Israelites at one time, in one “convenient” place, Jerusalem. Remember, the people did not move out over the earth after the flood like God wanted them to. Instead they depended on Nimrod’s government to keep them safe from God. Yet later, God says through Moses that he scattered them. They should not have stayed in Shinar. And maybe some of them did move out of Shinar to Arsareth at that time, but probably not too many. God wanted his people to connect to Him, not to other men, so asking them to move from Shinar would have allowed them to draw near to God on their own.

Deut 30:3-5 That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee.4 If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the Lord thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:5 And the Lord thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers. KJV

Remember, Jerusalem has to call on Jesus: “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” before they will see him again. Then Jesus will come with his armies. When Jesus comes and establishes his Kingdom on earth (the millennial reign) he will bring the people back from all over the world. Interestingly, Israel will suffer like Babylon, along with those who worship idols or profess atheism, then God will bring the people living in Arsareth back to Jerusalem.

2 Esd 13:47 The Highest shall stay the springs of the stream again, that they may go through: therefore sawest thou the multitude with peace.48 But those that be left behind of thy people are they that are found within my borders.49 Now when he destroyeth the multitude of the nations that are gathered together, he shall defend his people that remain. 50 And then shall he shew them great wonders.

There will be some that remain on the earth at the end of the tribulation and the angels will gather the elect from the four corners of the earth. However, if one has professed atheism there is no reward or life during the millennial kingdom. Babylon inspired false worship, idolatrous worship, self-worship, and non-worship. Babylon also established tyrannical governments and dependence on governments. This is why God hates Babylon and inspires the beast to destroy her. She led the whole world astray and made people prostitute themselves, or sell their souls to her system. At the time of the dispersion, people left the Middle East for other lands. However, “Babylon” found those people and oppressed them again so to speak. Babylon’s end will be utter destruction in the latter days. However, anyone who lives through the tribulation and believes on Jesus as Lord will be brought back to Israel. Those people will be refined as gold. I don’t think Ezra was speaking of their personalities being refined, but their faith in Jesus as Lord would be refined because God shows them special wonders. There are no lost tribes, God knows where they are. Even if Babylon’s influence has taken hold of their country, God calls his people out of Babylon. Today, people should stay in Arsareth (where ever that may be) until Jesus snatches them up or brings them out.
