It Was Beautiful; Good, Beautiful, or Blooming; Inherently Good Elohim; Confirmed and Hidden in Our Heart


Psa 119:11 (Brenton) I have hidden thine oracles in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.


As we spend time reading and studying our Bible, we come upon verses and statements that we hide in our heart. Things that we meditate on, consider, and attempt to understand more fully. The words of the Bible actually bloom in our heart and in our understanding, coming alive in our mind. When we add depth to our understanding it is like adding fertilizer. When we correct the words that have been awkwardly translated, the correct understanding comes alive to us. As we have studied for the last two weeks “the beautiful light”, and that the beautiful light is in the origin, we can align our thinking and see the clear cut example that Yahweh Elohim gave us to understand the difference between beautiful and evil. For us, dividing between “beautiful and evil” is easier and clearer as compared to “good and evil”. Why? Good requires us to judge morality, moral intent, or inherent character, and it has an opposite, bad, to balance our decision. Beautiful simply exists. While beautiful also has an opposite, ugly. “Ugly” is not the opposite word that the Elohim gives us to make our judgment. Let’s explore.


When the Elohim looked at the light and the other things that were created during the creation week, the Elohim knew that it was beautiful. If someone states “you look good”, the recipient would think that they look just a bit above average. If someone states “you look beautiful” then the recipient would think they look far above average. The word beautiful gives us a bigger, brighter, understanding of a subject. When Moses wrote Genesis he used the word “beautiful” instead of “good”. If we look at something and claim that it is good, then we are satisfied with it. If we look at something and claim that it is beautiful we are more than satisfied with it. Beauty denotes intricate qualities, something that is life giving, with glory and joy. Good denotes an above satisfactory standard, but not intricate qualities, not life giving with glory and joy. Morally, beautiful denotes love while good denotes acceptable actions. Love goes above and beyond, but acceptable actions are doing what is required, nothing more. The Elohim used “beautiful” for a reason.

εἴδω

The Elohim knew or saw what was made beautiful. The LXX uses the word ειδεν meaning “saw”, while the AP uses the word eidō meaning “know”. It is possible to see and know as eidō means “to perceive”. Like a sculptor or a painter, the Elohim created light, and perceived it as beautiful. We can look at nature and know that it is  beautiful. We can look at people and know that they are beautiful. This light that is beautiful is different than what we can see. Without the sun, moon, and stars, we cannot see light. Those luminaries either transmit or reflect light to earth. The beautiful radiance that separated between the light and darkness is a different source of light than the luminaries. While Moses did not explain this, we can see it as he wrote that some type of kalos phōs was spoken into existence. The kalos phōs separated darkness. 

Saying/reading “beautiful radiance” as compared to “good radiance” makes a big difference in our mind and in our understanding of what the Elohim is saying. There are many people who believe that the Elohim is a mean God, or one who punishes people randomly. Their perspective may be that good versus bad is adequate here. But to those who realize that the Elohim is a just and fair God, one of whom came to earth as our very own blood sacrifice for our sins, recognizing the word beautiful versus wicked, is a far better understanding. It gives us the focus that the Elohim was perceiving and knowing things. Shouldn’t we see the creation in regards to beautiful as well? 

Solomon tells us that Wisdom, the Holy Spirit, is more beautiful than the sun and stars. He says being that compared with the light she is found before it or ahead of it. Curious. 



Wis 7:24  For wisdom is more moving than any motion: she passeth and goeth through all things by reason of her pureness.

Wis 7:25  For she is the breath of the power of God, and a pure influence flowing from the glory of the Almighty: therefore can no defiled thing fall into her.

The Spirit of Wisdom is the brightness of the everlasting light. She is a reflection of the power of the Elohim. She is the image of his goodness. Solomon gives us a clue as to what Moses was saying about the beautiful radiance. The Holy Spirit is the brightness of the everlasting light. Is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom, the light that divides the darkness? Is the Holy Spirit, who was in the beginning, bearing upon the waters, and the architect with Yahweh, the beautiful radiance that separated dark and light?  


“Beautiful”, kalos  is used 276 times, always translated as “good”. What if we recognize the difference every time we read it? Compare kalos to the word agathos.

It changes our perspective to use the correct words in the text. “Good” is sufficient, but “beautiful” is extra-ordinary. G2570 regards appearance, while G18 is intrinsic, inherent, or innate. Beautiful is an adjective, while good can be either an adjective or a noun.

The word “good” used here, agathos, is in the understanding of moral goodness or good deeds. This is where we can see the usage of agathos denoting moral character, or a natural inherent character. The person speaking to Jesus called him “good teacher”, he didn’t mean that Jesus taught well, he meant that Jesus’ character was morally good or inherently good. He then asks Jesus what morally good things he should do to have eternal life. Jesus corrects the man as to calling Jesus “good” by saying only the Elohim is good, inherently good. This then is our dilemma in using the word “good” in the place of beautiful. The MT translators mixed up our understanding, but Jesus clears it up.

Jesus is speaking of morally good deeds. Those who do morally good deeds shall exit their tombs unto a resurrection of life. This context is not speaking of inherent goodness. There is no inherent goodness, except in the Elohim, as Jesus pointed out. But if we do morally good deeds we may be resurrected to life.

The writer of Hebrews tells us that the Hebrews should be teachers, but that they are simply uneducated in the elements of the beginning of the oracles of the Elohim. He says that they need milk instead of meat or they need teachers. Now the full grown are able to eat meat because they have exercised their senses in the distinction of both beautiful and evil. Notice the writer goes to the beginning, Genesis, to show the origin of beautiful and evil. Whatever we look at in life, whatever we know, or see, can be defined as either beautiful or evil. If we take this perspective rather than “good (inherently or morally) or evil”, we are not making judgments as to intents or undisclosed information, we are recognizing what is. Beauty is in and of itself, while good is subjective to the individuals perception and moral compass. Just as the man called Jesus “good” and Jesus corrected him, we might not have the benefit of all the information to make a judgment of “good or evil”. We do however have the sight or vision of beautiful, beauteous, or fair. We see it.

Just like a city on a hill with a light that shines for miles, or salt that flavors our food, others should see our beautiful works so they will glorify the Elohim. Beautiful works or good works. Beautiful works invokes the idea of works done in love and compassion. Good works invokes the idea of works done as part of the law, apart from love and compassion. Good implies required behavior that is socially acceptable. Beautiful is going above and beyond for the sake of the Elohim. 


In Genesis we see a word translated “beautiful” that really means “blooming”. We see these alterations in the English translations because the English was translated from the Masoretic text, not the older more accurate Septuagint. As we have seen, we have a word that was translated “good” that should be “beautiful”, and we have a word translated “beautiful” which should be translated “blooming”. In our age we can certainly straighten this out rather easily, but instead we drink milk regarding the origin instead of eating meat.

We see that when the translators obscured the word “beautiful” they had to also obscure hōraios, which is in relation to “blooming”. Hōraios comes from the word hṓra, meaning “hour or season”. It can be applied to anything that blooms in season such as people or plants. Notice how verse 9 reads “every tree blooming in beautiful appearance, the tree of life in the middle of Paradise and the tree of knowing beautiful and evil.” The  Elohim planted two trees blooming beautifully, the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of beautiful and evil.

Yahweh Elohim tells the adam that if he eats from the tree of knowing beautiful and evil, death (thanatos) die off (apothnēskō). Well this is pretty clear. There is no mystery here. The trees were planted blooming in season, the fruit was already on the tree, and Yahweh Elohim says that if you eat from the tree of knowing beautiful and evil, you will die off dead.

Eve saw the beautiful tree that was blooming. She saw it blooming in season and downward observed it. She had the comprehension from heaven to earth, kata “downward”, noieō, “consider, understand or exercise the mind” the tree was beautiful food. She understood the fruit blooming in season and was told that eating it would make her like the gods, knowing beautiful and evil. She gave it to the adam who was with her. Did the adam consider the beautiful tree blooming with fruit? Was the adam interested in knowing beautiful and evil? In any event, Eve considered or fully observed the beautiful blooming tree and its fruit.


Some trees flower and grow fruit at the same time, it depends on the climate. They simply perpetually flower and grow fruit at the same time, over and over. Imagine looking at a fruit tree with flowers and fruit and recognizing that it is good for food, but then someone told you that if you ate the beautiful fruit that you would know what is beautiful and evil. It actually sounds more tempting than knowing “good and evil”. If we remember, they didn’t see evil. They didn’t experience evil. They didn’t know the depths of evil. They did see the activities of the heavens as the heavens were open to them before they sinned.

The writer of Hebrews says to the Hebrews not to be carried around with every wind of doctrine, or various foreign teachings. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and into the ages, which is beautiful to confirm, establish, or make firm, the heart. Food doesn’t benefit our walk, ratifying a beautiful heart does. If we are to put on beauty we are to put on Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Then we shine or let Jesus shine through us. We commune with the Holy Spirit and follow the Holy Spirit. Then the fire of the Holy Spirit will shine through us as well. The radiance is beautiful. Here is something to keep in mind.

Jesus says that he is the beautiful shepherd, and the beautiful shepherd gives his life for the sheep. Jesus doesn’t call himself the agathos, “inherently good” shepherd, he calls himself the kalos “beautiful shepherd”. Who then is beautiful Jesus or the god of this world? Who saves, heals, and redeems the beautiful shepherd or the dark ruler of the world? Beauty exposes evil.


When we put the correct words into our heart we see an extravagant Almighty Father, a worthy Messiah Son, and an emanating Holy Spirit. We see with our eyes what is beautiful. We would never have known evil if there wasn’t sin in the garden of Eden. That sin opened the door to evil taking over the lease on the earth. Satanas is now the god of this world. He is not a creator, not all knowing, not all powerful. He rules the cosmos with fallen sons of the Elohim and uses evil, wickedness, and darkness, to control mankind. Some humans will gravitate toward evil, darkness, and bitterness, but they are not wise and intelligent, they only believe themselves to be. Isaiah sends out a denunciation of warning.

“Woe the saying the evil (ponēros) beautiful (kalos) and the beautiful evil; the place the darkness (skotos) radiance (phōs) and the radiance darkness the place the acrid (pikros) sweet (glukus) and the sweet bitter.

“Woe the wise (sophos) in themselves and before the face of himself intelligent.”



If we see the backward, upside-down, opposite, gaslighting taking place, we are to shine light on it. We correct the manipulation. If someone pushes evil as beautiful, we show them beauty. If someone pushes darkness as radiance, we show them radiance. If someone pushes bitter as sweet, we show them sweet. The god of this world has had nearly six thousand years to learn how to manipulate, intimidate, and dominate, humans. But phōs divides skotos. Light separates darkness. The Holy Spirit is not light like the sun or stars and also not a reflection. The radiance of the Holy Spirit is a spiritual light that divides darkness, and the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom, dwells within us. 


Paul gives the Thessalonians advice we can use.
