We looked at kata last week as the word “downward” or “the seeing Shepherd”. We noted that kata is a preposition, as well as a prefix. Used with another word, kata brings us a bigger picture or greater understanding of what is downwards. We see Yahweh coming down to earth, we see angels coming down to earth, we see the Holy Spirit coming down to earth, and we see Jesus coming down to earth. Therefore it is safe to say that part of our story is one of intervention from above. There is another future aspect to this idea, which is the satan will go down into Hades. The satan wanted to ascend, but will end up descending. Meanwhile, Jesus descended to free those that the satan abducted.
The first time that we see katabainō used it is in the context of the Tower of Babel. Yahweh went down to mix up the languages. We sometimes think that Yahweh is sitting on a throne in the heavens looking down at us, but this doesn’t seem to be the case. In Job we can see that there are regularly scheduled meetings with the angels who are to report what is taking place on the earth. This tells us that in previous dispensations Yahweh was not looking down on humanity all the time. In this story Yahweh wants to see the tower of Babel.

The pictograph r is a picture of the head of a man, the d is a picture of a door that allows entrance into the tent. Combined these mean "man through the door". The floor of a tent is a covered with a spread out sheet.
“And descended Yahweh to see the city and the tower that build the sons the manfaced.”
Yahweh katabainō came down to the earth to see for himself what manfaced was doing. Yahweh opened the door from heaven to earth. This is a great picture. Instead of humans being like ants in an ant farm that can be observed and watched, Yahweh is not studying us. He is not observing people like ants in a clear container. Yahweh has given us freedom. However there are some boundaries, just as the building of this tower crossed a line. In our dispensation we have Christ in us, Jesus dwells within us as does the Holy Spirit.
If we understand that this tower was not simply something made by man for man’s own glory then the story makes sense. The misconception was that Nimrod wanted to build a tower to make a war with the Elohim. The people believed that they could kill God and then rule themselves. It sounds similar to what will happen at the end of the tribulation after Babylon is killed by the beast, the beast wants to make war with the Lamb. We all know how that will turn out as we have read the end of the book.
Jasher 9:25 And the building of the tower was unto them a transgression and a sin, and they began to build it, and whilst they were building against the Lord God of heaven, they imagined in their hearts to war against him and to ascend into heaven.

Yahweh decided to confuse the languages of the families. He saw what was in their hearts and decided that if they wanted to kill the Elohim they would continue to try and do so. With man’s limited knowledge, his whole existence would be based on trying to separate himself from the Creator.

“…come here and come down pour together their tongue in that place not comprehend by hearing every one the sound the neighbor.’”
The plan to confound languages so that families could not communicate with other families put a stop to the tower. No one could fight against a Creator who could confuse their languages. It would take time and effort to attempt to communicate with one another. But notice that Yahweh came down to see for himself what the people were doing. How did he hear about what they were doing? The watcher angels were reporting what was happening at their regularly scheduled meetings.
Jasher 9:29 And the Lord knew their thoughts, and it came to pass when they were building they cast the arrows toward the heavens, and all the arrows fell upon them filled with blood, and when they saw them they said to each other, Surely we have slain all those that are in heaven.
30 For this was from the Lord in order to cause them to err, and in order; to destroy them from off the face of the ground.
31 And they built the tower and the city, and they did this thing daily until many days and years were elapsed.
32 And God said to the seventy angels who stood foremost before him, to those who were near to him, saying, Come let us descend and confuse their tongues, that one man shall not understand the language of his neighbor, and they did so unto them.
Jasher 10:2 And when the Lord had scattered the sons of men on account of their sin at the tower, behold they spread forth into many divisions, and all the sons of men were dispersed into the four corners of the earth.

Once we get the idea that Yahweh is not looking at us as if we were in an ant farm, then we recognize why we were created. We were created to subdue the enemy because Christ is within us. We have the badge of His authority. He is here on the earth dwelling in those who are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We were created to take authority over evil on the earth. We do it because we align with Him.
Yahweh is now walking with Abraham to Sodom and Gomorrah. Yahweh says that he will tell Abraham what he is doing because Abraham will order his sons and his house to guard the ways of Yahweh. We see Yahweh in one place at one time, now he is in many places at one time. Yahweh walked and talked with Abraham as a friend.

“And said Yahweh ‘Shrieking Sodom and Gomorrah increase towards me and their sins exceedingly mega…”
Who is shrieking? The victims of Sodom and Gomorrah are shrieking as the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah against others continues to increase.
When we look at the battle of the five armies (Genesis 14 and Jasher 16), we see that some of the nations rose up against other nations, leaving very few giants in the region. Remember that Nimrod was a giant hunter. After that battle, those heirs of the Nephilim who were left alive went to Sodom and the surrounding cities. They increased in numbers and practiced evil against the inhabitants of the other nations (Jasher 18). An example is an incident that Eliezer had when Sarah asked him to check on Lot (Jasher 19), the men of Sodom acted unjustly towards Eliezer and others.

“…going down (katabainō) therefore to see whether downwards (kata) their shrieking I come from I bring to an end but if not in that place I come to know.’”
Yahweh continues to explain the reason for his visit. He wanted to know whether or not the shrieking was justified.
Jasher 19:44 And the Lord was provoked at this and at all the works of the cities of Sodom, for they had abundance of food, and had tranquility amongst them, and still would not sustain the poor and the needy, and in those days their evil doings and sins became great before the Lord.
45 And the Lord sent for two of the angels that had come to Abraham's house, to destroy Sodom and its cities.
Now we understand that the door of heaven opens when someone comes down from heaven to earth. We also see dreams where the door of heaven opens and beings are coming to earth. Since we are not being constantly observed under a microscope by Yahweh we have to ask; how does he know our deeds? Who is writing and recording our actions on the earth? We know that scribe angels are recording everything we do and say. We will be rewarded accordingly, Revelation 11. This is why the “shrieking” regarding Sodom was not dealt with by Yahweh until he came to see what was going on. This is also why we need to enter the courts of heaven and petition the courts daily. So our shrieking against evil is heard. And even though Christ dwells in us, we are asked to pray and petition heaven for justice on the earth.
Genesis 18:22 G2532 And G654 turning back G1564 from there, G3588 the G435 men G2064 came G1519 unto G* Sodom. G* And Abraham G1161 G2089 was still G1510.7.3 G2476 standing G1726 before G2962 the lord .
“And turn away from that place the male human being (anēr) to come into Sodom. But Abraham as yet was standing in the presence of Yahweh.”
The “male human beings” were beings that looked like men, but not manfaced. As we know, the two angels went into Sodom and were surrounded by the men of the town who wanted to rape them. Lot offered his virgin daughters, but the towns’ men didn’t want them. The angels then blinded the men of Sodom (Genesis 19) and the next day ushered Lot and his wife and daughters out of the region.
Jacob saw something interesting in a dream. He saw angels coming down to the earth.
Genesis 28:12 G2532 And G1797 he dreamed. G2532 And G2400 behold, G2824.2 there was a stairway G4741 being supported G1722 by G3588 the G1093 earth, G3739 of which G3588 the G2776 top G864 arrived G1519 in G3588 the G3772 heaven. “And dream and See! Scales fixed in the earth that the head arrived into the heavens and the angels the Elohim go up to and come down (katabainō) on it.”
The idea for a ladder is like a scale or something that lifts up and down like a basket on a rod. It is like a gondola; one basket goes up into the heavens the other comes down onto the earth. In this dream the angels are the ones coming down to earth. Yahweh speaks to Jacob in his dream.
The word ascend is the word anabainō in Greek. It has the same base word as katabainō, which is bainō meaning “to walk or take steps”. The prefix ana means “up” while the prefix kata means “down”. These words are opposites and they are used together frequently.
Jasher 30:1 And Jacob went forth continuing his road to Haran, and he came as far as mount Moriah, and he tarried there all night near the city of Luz; and the Lord appeared there unto Jacob on that night, and he said unto him, I am the Lord God of Abraham and the God of Isaac thy father; the land upon which thou liest I will give unto thee and thy seed.
2 And behold I am with thee and will keep thee wherever thou goest, and I will multiply thy seed as the stars of Heaven, and I will cause all thine enemies to fall before thee; and when they shall make war with thee they shall not prevail over thee, and I will bring thee again unto this land with joy, with children, and with great riches.
3 And Jacob awoke from his sleep and he rejoiced greatly at the vision which he had seen; and he called the name of that place Bethel.
If Jacob was such a swindler why was Yahweh blessing him? The answer is that Jacob was not a swindler, but someone who served in the tents of the Lord for at least 37 years. Jacob was 57 at the time that he was going to Laban’s house. Jacob gaining the birthright and the blessing was part of Yahweh’s plan for him because he was a servant of the Most High God who had served in the tents of God with Shem and Eber.
King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream about a watcher and an angel coming down to earth. This warning was given to him to repent, but he did not. Within about a year Nebuchadnezzar was like an animal in the fields.
Daniel 4:23 G2532 And G3754 that G1492 [3beheld G3588 1the G935 2king] G1513.1 a sentinel, G2532 and G39 a holy one G2597 coming down G1537 from G3588 the G3772 heaven, G2532 and G2036 he said, …
In Nebuchadnezzar’s dream he saw a sentinel and an angel. Two beings coming down from heaven. It is clear that as we are living on the earth there is interaction from heaven to the earth. People seeing dreams of beings coming down to earth as well as literally the same beings coming down to earth.
Micah has a word from Yahweh. It is in regards to the Day of the Lord when the Lord comes at the end of the tribulation. He says Yahweh Elohim will be in us for proof and Yahweh will come out of his holy house.
Micah 1:3 G1360 For G2400 behold, G2962 the lord G1607 goes forth G1537 from out of G3588 G5117 his place, G1473 G2532 and G2597 he will go down, G2532 and G1910 will mount G1909 upon G3588 the G5311 heights G3588 of the G1093 earth.
“On this account Look! Yahweh departs from out of his place and comes down and walks upon elevation the earth.”
Yahweh walks out of the door of heaven and comes to the earth on the Day of the Lord. The mountains will shake and the valleys will melt like beeswax with fire descending. This is a future event. We see beings coming to earth in the past, in the present, and in the future.
Micah goes on to tell the people of their sins, and then prophesies their destruction. He then says that Messiah would be born in Bethlehem who was from the beginning and into eternity. Yet he tells them that the remnant of Jacob would be among the nations, and in many nations. Yahweh then says he will smite them because of their sins. Micah then says that after their punishment, their sins will be cancelled and Yahweh will return to them.
Now we see the Holy Spirit coming upon Jesus, down from heaven.

“And Jesus baptized come up straight away from the water and look! the heavens open up him and see the Spirit Elohim come down as it were like dove and come on him”
During Jesus’ baptism, as he came out of the water, the heavens opened up over him. People saw the Spirit of Elohim come down through the door of heaven to earth and come on Jesus, and the Spirit looked like a dove. Here we see the Holy Spirit is walking through the door.
Matthew 28:2 G2532 And G2400 behold, G4578 [2earthquake G1096 3took place G3173 1a great]; G32 for an angel G1063 G2962 of the Lord G2597 having come down G1537 from out of G3772 heaven, G4334 having come forward, G617 rolled G3588 the G3037 stone G575 from G3588 the G2374 door, G2532 and G2521 was sitting down G1883 upon G1473 it.
“And look! mega earthquake happened for angel Yahweh come down from out of heaven come up to roll away the stone away from the entrance and sat atop it.”
When an angel came out of heaven and rolled away the stone, it caused an earthquake. The presence of the angel of the Lord was accented by the earthquake. That angel sat on the stone and people saw the angel of the Lord. Jesus says something interesting. He says that he opened the door of heaven and came to earth.
John 6:38 G3754 For G2597 I have descended G1537 from G3588 the G3772 heaven, G3756 not G2443 that G4160 I should do G3588 G2307 [2will G3588 G1699 1my], G235 but G3588 the G2307 will G3588 of the one G3992 having sent G1473 me.
“That come down from out of the heaven not in order that manufacture the my will but the will the dispatch me.”
Jesus did not come to produce his own will. He came out of the door of heaven to produce the Father’s will on the earth. Jesus was dispatched for the Father’s will. Paul explains what happened after Jesus was crucified.
Ephesians 4:8 G1352 Therefore G3004 he says, G305 Having ascended G1519 into G5311 the height G162 he captured G161 the captivity, G2532 and G1325 he gave G1390 gifts G3588 G444 to men.
“On which account says rise into heights to take prisoner captive multitudes and offer gifts the manfaced.”
Jesus came out of the door of heaven, and then went into Hades to take back the prisoner captive multitudes. He gave the gift of eternal life to those who served him faithfully on the earth. He then took them out of Hades and brought them to paradise. After Pentecost, the mystery is that it is Christ in us, the hope of glory. Paul explains further.

“And but rise that one is if not that and come down before into the lower part the earth.”
What else did Jesus do while emptying the righteous from Abraham’s Bay? He also took back the keys to hell and death.

“He is come down and the go up far above all the heaven in order that to make full all.”
Jesus went down out of the door of heaven, stayed on the earth for a while, then went into the grave, and then went back into heaven. He fulfilled all things on this journey. Paul explains that this is a single original work.

No one can say that someone can go up to heaven and bring down Christ, nor can someone go down to the abyss and lead Christ out of Hades.

…or ‘someone come down into the abyss’ that is lead up Christ from out of dead.”
This original work was not accomplished by any human. This original work of coming out of the door of heaven and going down to the earth, and then going down to Hades before returning to enter through the door of heaven, isn’t something that anyone else did. No human has entered heaven as of yet as Paul explains.

“That the Lord himself in a word of command, in sound an archangel, and in war trumpet, God come down away from heaven, and the dead in Christ rise up first.”
Notice what is taking place; Yahweh gives a command and an archangel with a war trumpet trumpets for us to hear. The Elohim come down away from heaven, and the dead in Christ leave paradise. Next, the living go up.

“Thereupon we the living leave behind at once along with them, snatch away in clouds into the act of meeting the Lord into lower air, and in this manner at all times along with Lord we will be.”
The living join the dead in being snatched into the clouds where we will meet Yahweh in the lower air. Yahweh does not come down to the earth, he is in the lower air, that is the atmosphere above the earth. This is when we see that the door of heaven opens and the redeemed stand around the throne waiting for the lamb to take the scrolls, Revelation 4 and 5.
Now we want to look at the actions of the satan. The satan wanted to be like the Most High Elohim, but instead he will go down to the foundation of the earth. He will be septic and be covered in worms.
Isaiah 14:11 G2597 [2went down G1519 3into G86 4Hades G3588 G1391 1Your glory], G1473 G3588 G4183 [2great G2167 3gladness G1473 1your]; G5270 underneath G1473 you G4766 they shall make a bed G4598.1 of putrefaction, G2532 and G3588 G2618.1 [2 shall be your covering G1473 G4663 1 the worm].
“Go down into Hades your honor many they rejoice underneath you, spread sepsis and your downward cover gnawing worm.”
When the satan, Satanail, goes down into Hades with all his glory and renown, many will rejoice underneath him, meaning those who were already in Hades will celebrate the satan’s coming to hell. They will spread sepsis, or putrefaction, which is decaying and rotting organic materials. Both sepsis and putrefaction involve microorganisms that “make rotten”. The word κατακάλυμμά is a downward cover, meaning the satan will be blanketed with gnawing worms. It is interesting that the people who have been in Hades are celebrating the satan’s coming, as they would like to see the satan tortured like they have been for being tricked by him.

“In what manner fall from out of heaven lucifer the early in the morning make to rise break by crushing into the earth the send off to all the ethnos.”
How did the satan fall out of heaven? He decided to follow the devil instead of Yahweh. Lucifer is the morning star at night, meaning Venus. Venus rises at night, but as it sets it looks like the bigger planets are chasing it. Comparatively, Jesus is the bright and morning star, the one who rises in the morning. When the satan fell, he broke the earth by crushing the nations he was sent to. He has deceived the nations to turn away from Yahweh, just as Nimrod did.
Isaiah 14:13 G1473 But G1161 G2036 you said G1722 in G3588 G2588 your heart, G1473 G1519 Unto G3588 the G3772 heaven G305 I shall ascend; G1883 [3upon G3588 4the G792 5stars G3588 6of the G3772 7heaven G5087 1I will put G3588 G2362 2my throne]; G1473 G2523 I shall sit G1722 on G3735 [2mountain G5308 1a high], G1909 upon G3588 the G3735 [2mountains G3588 G5308 1high] G3588 G4314 towards G1005 the north;
“But you say in your heart ‘into the heaven ascend above the stars the heaven to set my throne to make to sit down in a high mountain on the mountains high towards the north wind…”
We see a lot of coming and going. The satan wants to ascend above the stars. He wants a throne to judge the sons of the Elohim. He wanted to usurp Yahweh. Remember, Yahweh meets with the sons of Elohim at regularly scheduled times. This seems to be where the satan wants to make himself a ruler apart from Yahweh. But instead of ascending, he will descend.
The “north winds” is the Greek word Boreas who was a mythological god of the north wind, but Borealis is the northern lights. The satan who is a borealis wanted to also have command of all of the north. The satan came before mythology so we understand that this mythology was patterned after the satan who wanted to be the king of the north.
Isaiah 14:14 G305 I will ascend G1883 upon G3588 the G3507 clouds; G1510.8.1 I will be G3664 likened G3588 to the G5310 highest.
“…ascend on the top the clouds I will be of equal rank the Most High.’”
Wanting to be like the Most High is a big step for a created being. The created cannot be like the Creator. The pot cannot usurp the potter. The satan attempted to overthrow natural order. That was dumb.
Isaiah 14:15 G3568 But now G1161 G1519 [2into G86 3Hades G2597 1you shall go down], G2532 and G1519 into G3588 the G2310 foundations G3588 of the G1093 earth.
“But even now into Hades go down and into the foundation stone the earth.”
The satan will go so far down into Hades that he will be at the foundation stone of the earth. He will be there for one thousand years. Wherever that foundation stone is, it seems that it is the furthest point of Hades. This stone would be the first or founding stone used to create the earth.
Isaiah 14:16 G3588 The ones G1492 beholding G1473 you G2296 shall wonder G1909 over G1473 you, G2532 and G2046 shall say, G3778 Is this G3588 the G444 man G3588 G3947 provoking G3588 the G1093 earth, G3588 the one G4579 shaking G935 kings;
“The knowing you marvel on you and enquire ‘this the manfaced the prick the earth shaking kings?…”
This tells us something interesting. The satan is an incorporeal being; air, aether, fire, or light. He can transform himself into an angel of light. But he is not an angel, he is an incorporeal. However when he goes down to Hades he is seen as a manfaced, meaning he has lost his original form. Those that knew him as the satan will marvel. They knew him as an incorporeal they see him as a manfaced. The satan lost his glory and his beauty as a borealis, and in Hades he looks like us. Those who knew him marvel. Why? He looked more powerful as an incorporeal than he does as a man. As an incorporeal he pricked the earth and shook kings. As a man he doesn’t look special nor does he look intimidating.

“…put the inhabited deserted, and its cities to take down, in abduction not release.’”
Notice the opposites here in this statement. The satan made the inhabited places deserted. There are still deserted places in the middle east. The satan took down cities; remember Sodom and the surrounding cities? The word kathaireō comes from kata “downward” and aihreomai “to take for oneself”. By choosing a place for himself the satan demolished or took down the cities. The satan abducted humans and did not release them. Jesus set the captives free when he went down into Hades.

“All the kings the nations sleep in dignity, manfaced in his house.”
The rulers of nations sleep in dignity and men in their own homes, but this is not the case for the satan.

“But you throw off in the mountains like as a corpse, abhorred in the midst of many dead, pierced a knife come down into Hades.”
The satan will be thrown off in the mountains like a corpse, however not dead. He will smell foul and even in the middle of those dying they will turn themselves away from him because of the stench. He will be stabbed with a dirk and go down into Hades. The satan will stay there until the end of the millennial kingdom until he is let loose to go out and deceive the nations again. We see his change of form from an incorporeal that cannot be stabbed to a being who smells bad even among the dead. He can be thrown as well.
While we see in our story, as humans on the earth, that we are not left alone. There is heavenly intervention from the opening of the door of heaven down to the earth. Today we have Christ dwelling in us, yet Yahweh has our actions and words scribed and reported. We see that the people associated with Nimrod and the tower of Babel were trying to kill the Elohim and take over heaven. In the future we see the beast try to make war with the lamb and the lamb’s armies. We see that the satan wanted to be king over the north, but he will end up at the foundation stone of the earth, in Hades for one thousand years. Jesus reversed the course for those the satan abducted. Jesus is the only one who opened the door to heaven, stepped onto earth, then went under the earth to release the captives. Jesus then ascended back into heaven. Jesus was the only one who made a circular journey, and he did it for us.
