David wrote Psalms 22 during his time while warring against the Philistines, yet this Psalm is a foretelling of the future Messiah. There are some direct quotes made by the future Messiah and several events attributed to the Messiah’s last hours on the earth. During this season of the Jewish passover and the remembrance of the death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus, it is interesting to notice that David suffered some of the same things his future heir did. David was surrounded by fat bulls and wicked dogs just as Jesus. Who are the fat bulls? Who are the wicked dogs? David tells us that Yahweh is the Lord of the nations, which is a wonderful message to us. Jesus’ blood is our atonement for sin, he is our passover lamb. Let’s consider David’s words which were written over one thousand years prior to Jesus’ crucifixion.
Psalms 22:0 G1519 To G3588 the G5056 director; G5228 for G3588 the G484 assistance G3588 of the G2192.3 early morning; G5568 a psalm G3588 to G* David.
“Into the fulfillment, in behalf of the help the morning, song David.”
This is a song for the completion, the completion of the age on behalf of the help of the morning. What is the help that we need in our homes in the morning at the end of the age? This Psalm is called the Psalm of the Cross. It is a Genesis Psalm and comes under the sub heading of “The Man Christ Jesus”. There is a further subheading called “The Good Shepherd in Death”. The crucifixion is the covering we need over our homes, similar to the first passover when the children of Jacob were in Egypt and put the blood of the lamb over their door posts so that the destroyer, Apollyon, would pass over their house. In the morning the Israelites then knew who was passed over and who was not.
Psalms 22:1 G3588 O G2316 God, G3588 G2316 my God, G1473 G4337 take heed G1473 to me! G2444 Why G1459 did you abandon G1473 me? G3112 [4 are far G575 5from G3588 G4991 6my deliverance G1473 G3588 1The G3056 2words G3588 G3900 3of my transgressions]. G1473
“The Elohim my Elohim pay attention to me. For what reason leave me. Far away, away from my deliverance the word my falling away.”
Imagine David writing this. Did he know that he was prophesying about the Messiah who would come from his lineage? As David was writing in his time, we know that he is writing during his days of war against the Philistines. This very first verse was quoted by Jesus as he hung on the cross. It is not just the words that Jesus quoted that point us to David being prophetic, but the same lineage of people that David was warring against, Jesus was also warring against.
Jesus and the people of Jerusalem spoke Northern Aramaic. Why? Because Cyrus let the Israelites go back to Jerusalem and build a temple. Northern Aramaic was the language of the nation that they lived under. After seventy years of captivity Hebrew was nearly a lost language. The scriptures had been translated around 250 BCE, from various forms of Hebrew to Greek. By the time of Jesus’ crucifixion, people were reading scriptures in Greek and speaking Aramaic.
Matthew 27:46 (KJV)
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Matthew 27:46 .....G2241 Eli, G2241 Eli, G3039.3 lima G4518 sabacthani; G5123 that is, G2316 My God, G1473 G2316 My God, G1473 G2444 why G1473 have you abandoned me? G1459
What we don’t see from the KJV is that the words in the Greek translate correctly between the Old and New Covenant.
In the Northern Aramaic this reads a little differently. Only the first part of the verse is in the text.
Matthew 27:46 And at the ninth hour, Eashoa cried out in a loud voice and said, “Eli, Eil, l’mana sh’wik-thani?
Victor Alexander notes the following: Original ancient Aramaic retained: “I AM, I AM, wherefore have you left me?” Eil is a title of Allaha, “HE IS” (in the sense of Eternal). It has not been translated in English as such, therefore I have used the more acceptable designation “I AM”. Idiomatically, “Wherefore” implies destiny. “Sh’wik-thani” is the only correct transliteration, and it means “left me” in the sense of the purpose for which Eashoa was left on the cross. It absolutely does not mean “forsaken” in this usage. (Aramaic New Testament Translated by Victor Alexander Copyright 2010, footnotes, pg 68)
So we see all the stories that sprung up due to the mistranslation of the word “forsake” are to be cast away in favor of the understanding of “left me”. Jesus was left on the cross for a purpose. He became the sacrificial lamb, the passover lamb, for the sins of all humans past, present and future. It is for this purpose he was crucified, left on the cross, until it was finished.
Psalms 22:2 G3588 G2316 My God, G1473 G2896 I shall cry out G2250 by day, G2532 and G3756 you do not G1522 hear; G2532 and G3571 by night G2532 and G3756 it shall not G1519 be accounted for G454 thoughtlessness G1473 to me.
“My Elohim, scream day and not listen and night-time, and not into my stupidity.”
David is crying out to the Elohim; he screams out, but he says that he’s not stupid. We have all had anguish in our lives, but for those who believe on Yahweh, the place we take our anguish to is the courts of heaven. David is demanding audience by his screaming day and night. Why? He is killing giants. Remember the weak response that the spies came back with, explaining to Moses why they couldn’t enter the land of Canaan? They saw themselves as grasshoppers. Even though the size difference is real, David had the right approach. David never went into any battle without seeking Yahweh first.
Psalms 22:3 G1473 But you G1161 G1722 [2in G39 3 the holy place G2730 1dwell], G3588 the G1868 high praise G3588 G* of Israel.
“But you in sacred house permanently, the commendation Israel.”
David points out that the Elohim dwell permanently in the holy house, and this is the praise of Israel.
Psalms 22:4 G1909 Upon G1473 you G1679 [2hoped G3588 G3962 1our fathers]; G1473 G1679 they hoped, G2532 and G4506 you rescued G1473 them.
“On you hope for our father, hope for and rescue them.”
The generations past hoped on the Elohim. They did not know what to expect, but the Elohim rescued them.
Psalms 22:5 G4314 To G1473 you G2896 they cried out, G2532 and G4982 they were delivered; G1909 upon G1473 you G1679 they hoped, G2532 and G3756 they were not G2617 disgraced.
“Towards you scream and save, on you hope for and not shame down.”
The past generations screamed towards the Elohim and the Elohim saved them. They hoped and were not ashamed.
Psalms 22:6 G1473 But I G1161 G1510.2.1 am G4663 a worm, G2532 and G3756 not G444 a man; G3681 the scorn G444 of men, G2532 and G1848.1 a contemptible thing G2992 of people.
“But I am a gnawing worm (grub, maggot) and not manfaced, reproach manfaced and despised people.”
David claims that he is like a grub, and not a man. He is despised by others. If we remember, David was not well liked within Israel, let alone among the nations that he was warring against. Like David, Jesus was not well liked, especially by the religious leaders in Israel. People despised Jesus too.
Psalms 22:7 G3956 All G3588 the ones G2334 viewing G1473 me G1592 derided G1473 me; G2980 they speak G1722 with G5491 their lips, G2795 they shook G2776 their head, saying,
“All look at me, turn up one’s nose at me, talk in mouth, stir head.”
David is revealing the treatment that he received, but later this same treatment would be described as what Jesus suffered. Notice what things people said to Jesus.
Matthew 27:39-43 (KJV)
39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
Mark 15:29-30 (KJV)
29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross.
I am sure that even after Jesus rose up, those very same people who mocked and criticized him on the cross continued to do so. Sometimes people’s hearts and minds are so blind that they cannot see the truth in front of them. Yet there may be an inherited reason that people despised Jesus.
Psalms 22:8 G1679 He hoped G1909 upon G2962 the lord, G4506 let him rescue G1473 him! G4982 Let him deliver G1473 him! G3754 for G2309 he desired G1473 him.
“Hope on Yahweh, rescue him, save him that wish him”
The mockers made fun of David for believing in and hoping on Yahweh. They anxiously waited for his failure. This was the same with Jesus, they mocked Jesus for trusting in the Elohim. This was just as much a spiritual battle for David and Jesus as it was physical.
Matthew 27:43 (KJV)
43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
Luke 23:35 (KJV)
35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
Psalms 22:9 G3754 For G1473 you G1510.2.2 are G3588 the G1610.6 one pulling G1473 me G1537 from G1064 the womb; G3588 G1680 my hope G1473 G575 from G3149 the breasts G3588 G3384 of my mother. G1473
“Because you are pull me out, from out the matrix, my hope, away from breast my mother”
David recognizes that Yahweh and the Elohim are instrumental in the birth and life of all humans. Yahweh is our hope when we are weaned. Notice what Yahweh told Jeremiah.
Jeremiah 1:4 G2532 And G1096 [3came G3056 1 the word G2962 2 of the lord] G4314 to G1473 me, G3004 saying,
Psalms 22:5 G4253 Before G3588 G1473 my G4111 shaping G1473 you G1722 in G2836 the belly G1987 I knew G1473 you; G2532 and G4253 before G3588 G1473 your G1831 coming forth G1537 from out of G3388 the womb G37 I sanctified G1473 you; G4396 [3prophet G1519 4unto G1484 5nations G5087 1I appointed G1473 2you].
There is a calling from Yahweh in the womb, if we choose to follow Him we can fulfill our calling. Jesus says to the women who were weeping for him to weep for themselves and their children.
Luke 23:26-31 (KJV)
26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
27 And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.
28 But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?
What days was Jesus speaking of? Verse 30 gives us the clue.
Revelation 6:16 G2532 And G3004 they say G3588 to the G3735 mountains G2532 and G3588 to the G4073 rocks, G4098 Fall G1909 upon G1473 us, G2532 and G2928 hide G1473 us G575 from G4383 the face G3588 of the one G2521 sitting G1909 upon G3588 the G2362 throne, G2532 and G575 from G3588 the G3709 anger G3588 of the G721 lamb!
Jesus is speaking of the days of the tribulation, the day people see the wrath of the Lamb and the face of the Father. In those days people will say it was better not to have babies. Jesus was saying that Israel was like a green tree at that time. It is like a flowering tree today, as she is her own nation after a long period of dormancy. In the tribulation, the only people left on the earth are those who rejected Jesus. Israel will be a dry place. Jesus understood that throughout future generations people would reject him, but it would be especially hard for people in the tribulation as the people who decided to believe on Jesus then will be martyred.
Psalms 22:10 G1909 [2upon G1473 3you G1977 1I was cast] G1537 from G3388 the womb; G1537 from out of G2836 the belly G3384 of my mother G1473 G2316 [2my God G1473 G1510.2.2 1you are]. G1473
“On you throw upon from out the matrix, from out abdomen my mother, my Elohim you are.”
David was not seeking anything from the Elohim as a boy. He was anointed to be king when he was young and it took quite some time before he became king. He is saying that from his birth the Elohim has been his Elohim. David is trying to communicate the frailty of an infant, and that it is Yahweh and the Elohim that take over, like the matrix, after the baby is weaned. Notice what Jesus says to his disciples.
Matthew 18:10 G3708 See that G3361 you should not G2706 disdain G1520 one G3588 G3397 of these small ones! G3778 G3004 For I say G1063 G1473 to you, G3754 that G3588 G32 their angels G1473 G1722 in G3772 the heavens G1275 continually G991 look G3588 on the G4383 face G3588 G3962 of my father, G1473 G3588 the one G1722 in G3772 the heavens.
Jesus is pointing out that we should become like children and be humble ourselves because the humble child is the one who is greater in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus says never abuse a child, but welcome children in his name. Jesus also says woe to those people who bring obstacles against these children. The short version is, do not harm or despise children, their angels look on the face of the Father. No fallen angels are in charge of children, only the ones who forever look on the Father are in charge of children.
To understand this, we have to go back to the idea that none of the other sons of God are life givers. Angels don’t birth baby angels, seraphim don’t birth baby seraphim, the devil doesn’t birth baby devils. Only humans birth baby humans. It is obvious as to why the devil and the satan attempt to kill babies; and through humans Jesus shows his manifold wisdom to the other sons of God, and through humanity the other sons of God are judged.
Mothers birth babies, and Jesus’ mother Mary birthed him. When Jesus was on the cross he asked John to care for Mary.
John 19:25-27 (KJV)
25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!
27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
Psalms 22:11 G3361 Do not G868 separate G575 from G1473 me, G3754 for G2347 affliction G1451 is near, G3754 for G3756 there is no G1510.2.3 G3588 G997 one helping G1473 me.
“Not remove away from me because persecution at hand, because is not come to the rescue of me.”
David asks for Yahweh not to remove himself from David because of his persecution as there is no one helping him. Jesus is in the same position. Therefore, in that time when we are persecuted and alone, we are to call on Yahweh.
Psalms 22:12 G4033 [3surround G1473 4me G3448 2calves G4183 1Many]; G5022 [2bulls G4104.2 1hearty] G4023 compass G1473 me.
“Encircle me young bull, many bulls fat hold all around me.”
David relates that young fat bulls are surrounding him. The bulls are another word for giants which early writers understood from the books of Enoch. Enoch used the allegory of bulls impregnating cows on the earth. David is surrounded by giants, the heirs of the Nephil, which had gathered into one tribe, the Philistines. David is not the only one surrounded by the heirs of the Nephilim. Jesus is as well. We see the correlation in Ezekiel in a prophesy against Gog.
Ezekiel 39:17-22 (KJV)
17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.
18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.
20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.
22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.
Ezekiel 39:17 Thou, therefore, son of man, say, Thus saith the Lord, Say to every winged bird, and to all the wild beasts of the field, Assemble and come: assemble from all around to my sacrifice, to the great sacrifice which I have made for you on the mountains of Israel; and you shall eat flesh and drink blood. 18 You shall eat the flesh of giants and drink the blood of the princes of the earth. Earns and young bulls and he goats; and all the bulls are well fatted. 19 And you shall eat fat till you are glutted, and drink blood to satiety, at my sacrifice which I have prepared for you. 20 And you shall be filled at my table with horses and horsemen, and with giants and every great warrior, saith the Lord. 21 I will indeed display my glory among you, and all the nations shall see my judgment which I have executed, and my hand which I have brought upon them. 22 And the house of Israel shall know that I am the Lord their God from this particular time and thence forward https://studybible.info/Thomson/Ezekiel%2039
This is the time period at the end of the tribulation just before the millennial kingdom. The Lord comes with his armies and destroys Gog the locust king. At this time the Lord will bring them, Jacob’s children, back from among the nations, Ezekiel 39:27, Matthew 13:41, Matthew 24:31, Deuteronomy 30:3-4. Therefore giants are also known as fat bulls.
Even though the people who hated Jesus in Jerusalem did not look like giants, and were not exceptionally tall, they were heirs of the Nephilim. Within them they carry a genetic disposition of fallen angels, with enmity against Jesus and the Almighty Father, because of their fallen spiritual state. In other words, the seed they derive from is seed of the serpent, and there is hatred between the two seeds, the seed of the serpent and the seed of men.
The fallen angels were rebellious and that rebellion carries into many of their descendants. Is it reasonable for anyone to hate someone who heals the sick, opens the eyes of the blind, and raises the dead? In normal humanity, people would fear the one who could do such miracles. But with corrupted heritage from fallen angels, the rebellious fallen nature of some is domination and hate for humans. It is easy to see why the heirs of the Nephilim have hatred for humans, as they have some angelic DNA that humans do not have. They simply feel superior to humans.
Jesus told the disciples not to harm or despise the children, but there are many who abuse children. Why is that? What evil is residing within child abusers? They are called in colloquial terms the “bulls of Bashan” as Bashan was the home of the Rephaim and later the home of Og.
Psalms 22:13 G455 They opened G1909 [2against G1473 3me G3588 G4750 1their mouths], G1473 G5613 as G3023 a lion G726 snatching away G2532 and G5612 roaring.
“Open up on me their mouth like as lion snatch away and roar.”
The bulls of Bashan, the heirs of the fallen angels, roar and try to grab their prey. We know bulls don’t roar like a lion, so we have to understand that these are not literal bulls. They are big, fat, young, hybrid men. In the understanding of the many tribes of the heirs of the Nephilim, we see that David was a giant slayer, that is what Yahweh wanted him to do. Joshua did not eliminate all the tribes that he was supposed to. During the time of the judges, the heirs of the Nephilim moved towards the sea and formed one tribe, the Philistines. They dominated Israel every time Israel started worshipping lesser gods. David however was to eliminate them, and as we have studied, he did so much damage to the heirs of the Nephilim that they didn’t rise up against Israel until the time of Hezekiah.
Psalms 22:14 G5616 As G5204 water G1632 was poured out, G2532 even G1287 [3were dispersed G3956 1all G3588 G3747 2my bones]; G1473 G1096 [2became G3588 G2588 1my heart] G1473 G5616 as G2781.1 beeswax G5080 melting away G1722 in G3319 the midst G3588 G2836 of my belly. G1473
“Just as if water pour out and scatter abroad all my bones come into being the heart just as if wax make liquid in middle my abdomen.”
David describes fear that affects his insides. His body became weak, maybe close to fainting. His heart melted like wax into his abdomen. This fear is paralyzing. Think of David’s mission. One time he has the boldness to knock down a giant with a rock and then cut his head off, but then he is instructed to go after a whole nation of giants.
Psalms 22:15 G3583 [2was dried G5613 3as G3749.1 4a potsherd G3588 G2479 1My strength], G1473 G2532 and G3588 G1100 my tongue G1473 G2853 cleaves G3588 to G2995 my throat. G1473 G2532 And G1519 to G5522 the dust G2288 of death G2609 you led G1473 me.
“Dry up like as potsherd my force and my tongue glue my throat, and into rubbish death bring down me.”
Potsherd is clay. Sometimes it is made with crushed seashells to make it stronger. David is saying that he is so dry and brittle that he can’t move. David says that his tongue cleaves to his throat and he feels that he is close to death.
John 19:28 (KJV)
28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
Jesus’ body started to fail and like David he started to thirst. John is quoting Psalms 69:21
Psalm 69:21 (KJV)
21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
Psalms 22:16 G3754 For G2944 [3encircled G1473 4me G2965 2dogs G4183 1many]; G4864 the gathering G4188.2 of the ones acting wicked G4023 compass G1473 me. G3736 They dug into G5495 my hands G1473 G2532 and G4228 my feet. G1473
“Because surround me dogs many assembly wicked hold all around me, dig out my hands and my feet.”
There is an assembly or synagogue of dogs. Notice the difference that David makes between bulls and dogs. Bulls are the heirs of the Nephilim, but dogs are Israelites who persecute David. The size difference and the race difference between David’s enemies is what he is communicating. There are Israelites coming against David and Jesus as well as the people who are heirs of the Nephilim. Now it is the synagogue of wicked dogs who dig out his hands and feet. It was the Romans who put the nails or spikes into Jesus’ hands and feet. We don’t know if David was harmed physically, but we certainly know that Jesus was. Jesus had his hands and feet dug into because evil religious leaders wanted him dead, and they got the Romans to do their dirty work.
There are alterations made to David’s words. In verse 16 we see a Masoretic alteration in some texts which eliminates the word pierced and changes this section. Here is the Complete Jewish Bible.
Psalms 22: (16) Dogs are all around me, a pack of villains closes in on me like a lion [at] my hands and feet https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+22&version=CJB
Such alterations were done to disqualify Jesus as Messiah, or to try and make another person the Messiah. Why would anyone want to change David’s words to make the Messiah not pierced or dug into? It is a very specific prophecy. It is a marker. One cannot be the Messiah if that one’s hands and feet were not dug into. Notice the International Hebrew version.
Psalms 22:16 H3588 כי For H5437 סבבוני have compassed H3611 כלבים dogs H5712 עדת me: the assembly H7489 מרעים of the wicked H5362 הקיפוני have enclosed H738 כארי as a lion H3027 ידי my hands H7272 ורגלי׃ and my feet. https://studybible.info/IHOT/Psalms%2022
Here is the older more credible Greek, Thomson’s Septuagint version.
Psalms 22:16 Because many dogs have encompassed me, an assembly of wicked men have beset me; have pierced my hands and my feet; https://studybible.info/Thomson/Psalms%2022
Brenton’s Septuagint version.
Psalms 22:16 (21:16) For many dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked doers has beset me round: they pierced my hands and my feet. https://studybible.info/Brenton/Psalms%2022
The Latin translators changed the Masoretic text back to the Septuagint translation which is why we see our English Bibles say “pierced”. Once in a while we see the Latin break from the MT to put the correct words back in place.
Knowing what they were doing, the Masoretes were sentencing many generations of innocent people to hades, dying without the Messiah. Why would a group of people do that to their own people? Are they fat bulls? How hardened would they need to be, without any love whatsoever, to continue to perpetrate this lie? Are they wicked dogs? In any event, the Masoretic alterations are identified. Jesus was pierced or dug into and David is describing what Jesus would endure.
Psalms 22:17 G1821.2 They counted out G3956 all G3588 G3747 my bones, G1473 G1473 and they G1161 G2657 contemplated G2532 and G1896 looked upon G1473 me.
“They counted all my bones but they observe fully and regard me.”
David is saying that the wicked dogs and fat bulls are looking at him closely and considering his condition. “Counting his bones” suggests that they can see some of his bones. Again we don’t know if David was physically beaten, but we do know that Jesus was.
John 19:33-37 (KJV)
33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
These are some scriptures regarding the fulfillment of scripture, as John mentioned.
Exodus 12:46-47 (KJV)
46 In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof.
47 All the congregation of Israel shall keep it.
Numbers 9:12 (KJV)
12 They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it.
Psalm 34:20 (KJV)
20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
The passover lamb was not to have a broken bone. Jesus was the passover lamb. All the sins of the world, past, present, and future, were put on Jesus and his innocent blood. He bore our sins and did not have a broken bone.
Psalms 22:18 G1266 They divided [2into parts G3588 G2440 1my garments] G1473 G1438 to themselves; G2532 and G1909 over G3588 G2441 my clothes G1473 G906 they cast G2819 a lot.
“Distribute my garment itself and on my clothing throw portion.”
David says that they passed out his garments and played dice to see who would get his clothing. Again, we don’t know if David experienced this, or if he was simply prophesying that the Messiah of the world would experience this. We do know that this did occur with Jesus’s garments.
Matthew 27:35 (KJV)
35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
Luke 23:34 (KJV)
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Imagine, Jesus asks the Father to forgive the people for crucifying him and then the Romans take his garments and play dice for them. The Romans simply thought he was a criminal. The Jews were out to crush him, and they did.
Psalms 22:19 G1473 But you, G1161 G2962 O lord, G3361 [2should not be far G3118.2 G3588 G996 1your help] G1473 G575 from G1699 me; G1519 [2to G3588 G484 3my assistance G1473 G4337 1take heed]!
“But you Yahweh not distant, your help not away from me, into help bring near.”
David says that Yahweh is not distant and his help is not far away from him. He asks for Yahweh’s help to be near.
Psalms 22:20 G4506 Rescue G575 [2from G4501 3 the broadsword G3588 G5590 1my soul], G1473 G2532 and G1537 [2from G5495 3 the hand G2965 4of the dog G3588 G3439 1my only child]! G1473
“Deliver away from scymitar my soul and from out of hand dog your only begotten.”
David himself had several siblings and David fathered several children. Therefore we know that David is not speaking of himself. He is asking to be delivered from the dogs as the only begotten. We see Jesus being called “the only begotten” by John.
John 1:14 (KJV)
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 1:18 (KJV)
18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
Solomon explains the nature of the dogs.
Proverbs 26:11 As when a dog goes to his own vomit, and becomes abominable, so is fool who returns in his wickedness to his own sin. (26:11A) {\I There is a shame that brings sin: and there is a shame {\I that is glory and grace.}}https://studybible.info/Brenton/Proverbs%2026
Paul also mentions to be aware of the dogs.
Philippians 3:2 G991 Take heed G3588 of the G2965 dogs! G991 Take heed G3588 of the G2556 evil G2040 workers! G991 Take heed to G3588 the G2699 circumcisers!
3 G1473 For we G1063 G1510.2.4 are G3588 the G4061 circumcision, G3588 the ones G4151 [2in spirit G2316 3of God G3000 1serving], G2532 and G2744 boasting G1722 in G5547 Christ G* Jesus, G2532 and G3756 not G1722 [2in G4561 3flesh G3982 1relying];
Peter expounds on Solomon’s wisdom.
2 Peter 2:20 G1487 For if G1063 G668 they having escaped G3588 the G3393 defilements G3588 of the G2889 world, G1722 in G1922 the full knowledge G3588 of the G2962 Lord G2532 and G4990 deliverer G* Jesus G5547 Christ, G3778 and in these things G1161 G3825 again G1707 being entangled G2274 they are vanquished, G1096 [3has become G1473 4to them G3588 1the G2078 2last] G5501 worse than G3588 the G4413 first.
21 G2908 [3better G1063 1For G1510.7.3 2it was] G1473 for them G3361 to have not known G3588 the G3598 way G3588 G1343 of righteousness, G2228 than G1921 having known, G1994 to have turned G1537 from G3588 the G3860 [3delivered G1473 4to them G39 1holy G1785 2commandment].
22 G4819 But has come to pass G1161 G1473 to them G3588 the word G3588 of the G227 true G3942 proverb, G2965 A dog G1994 having returned G1909 unto G3588 its own G2398 G1829 excrement, G2532 and G5300 [2pig G3068 1a bathed] G1519 unto G2946 wallowing in G1004 mire.
The dogs are evil, wicked, people. They are not fat bulls, they are wicked dogs eating their own excrement. They heard the truth and then went back to eating the feces that they had defecated. The dogs are eating the crap of the world. These are hard words. The people crucifying Jesus were not simply misled, or uninformed, they were bulls and dogs.
Let’s take this out of metaphorical terms. The heirs of the fallen angels set up the situation to murder Jesus and the people following the heirs of the fallen angels participated with them. The people spiritually dominating the region organized the regular people to crucify the Messiah of the world. The plan of the satan was that once Jesus was physically dead, he would be held in hades until the end of the age. The problem was the grave could not hold a sinless man. If the satan had known that, he would not have crucified the Lord of Glory. Instead of being a prisoner in hades, Jesus took back the keys to death and hades and the satan’s defeat was set in place. The manifold wisdom of the Elohim was now made known to the principalities and powers.
Psalms 22:21 G4982 Deliver G1473 me G1537 from G4750 the mouth G3023 of the lion, G2532 and G575 from G2768 the horns G3439.2 of the unicorns G3588 G5014 of my humiliation! G1473
“Save from out of mouth lion away from horn unicorn/narwhal my depression.”
David is asking for deliverance from the lions and unicorns. While the word μονοκερώτων translated as unicorn or narwhal, a single horned animal, it may be understood as a wild bull or ox, which could be a rhinoceros.
David now turns from the persecution to victory.
Psalms 22:22 G1334 I shall describe G3588 G3686 your name G1473 G3588 to G80 my brethren; G1473 G1722 in G3319 the midst G1577 of the assembly G5214 I will praise G1473 you.
“Set out in detail your character my brothers in middle church (ekklēsia) sing you.”
David says to tell people in the church of the character of Yahweh. David will sing songs that describe Yahweh for the people in the congregation to hear.
The first person to see Jesus was Mary. The disciples saw that Jesus was not in the grave. Mary thought Jesus was a gardener. Jesus tells her to tell others.
John 20:16-18 (KJV)
16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
Hebrews tells us Jesus is the captain of our salvation.
Hebrews 2:10-13 (KJV)
10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.
13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
By our belief that Jesus died and rose up on the third day we should declare Him to our brothers. In the middle of the church we sing praise to Jesus. Just as David told us, we are to sing about His character and reputation in the church.
Psalms 22:23 G3588 O ones G5399 fearing G3588 the G2962 lord -- G134 praise G1473 him! G537 All together, G3588 O G4690 seed G* of Jacob, G1392 glorify G1473 him! G5399 Fear indeed G1211 G575 of G1473 him G537 all together, G3588 O G4690 seed G* of Israel!
“The fear Yahweh praise him, all offspring Jacob esteem him, fear truly Him away from all the offspring Israel.”
The people fearing Yahweh praise him. David is calling for the offspring of Jacob to esteem Yahweh. He is calling the offspring of Israel to fear Yahweh. It is time to praise Yahweh.
Psalms 22:24 G3754 For G3756 he did not G1847 treat with contempt, G3761 nor G4360 loath G3588 the G1162 supplication G3588 of the G4434 poor, G3761 nor G654 turned G3588 G4383 his face G1473 G575 from G1473 me. G2532 And G1722 in G3588 G2896 my crying out G1473 G4314 to G1473 him, G1522 he heard G1473 me.
“Because not despise neither feel indignant the prayer the poor neither turn away his face away from me, and in my scream towards him listen me.”
Yahweh does not despise the prayer coming from the day laborer. The Pharisees made the people think that they were not good enough to be heard by Yahweh. Today we have some people who believe themselves to be intercessors who declare, with eloquent words, their prayers, but we never see the results of their well spoken supplications. Yahweh doesn’t want a show. Remember, David was talking about screaming to Yahweh from every fiber of his being. Screaming is better than eloquence. Yahweh listens.
Psalms 22:25 G3844 [2is about G1473 3you G3588 G1868 1My high praise]. G1473 G1722 In G1577 [2assembly G3173 1 the great] G1843 I shall confess G1473 to you. G3588 G2171 My vows G1473 G591 I shall render G1799 in the presence G3588 of the ones G5399 fearing G1473 him.
“Alongside you my praise in mega church (ekklēsia) acknowledge you my petition return before the face of fear him.”
David says that he is next to or alongside Yahweh when he praises in the large congregation. David is speaking of those who fear or reverence Yahweh. He brings his petition in front of Yahweh’s face.
Psalms 22:26 G2068 [2shall eat G3993 1 The needy] G2532 and G1705 shall be filled up; G2532 and G134 [4shall praise G2962 5 the lord G3588 1the ones G1567 2seeking G1473 3him]; G2198 [2shall live G3588 G2588 1their hearts] G1473 G1519 into G165 the eon G165 of the eon.
“Eat day laborer, fill up and praise Yahweh, seek out him, live heart into age of ages.”
David calls for the regular people, the day laborer, to eat and fill up on the praise of Yahweh. David calls for regular people to seek Yahweh, and their hearts will live into the ages of ages. Yahweh does not give special attention to the rich, the political leaders, or the spiritual leaders. Yahweh loves the day laborers, the regular working poor people. Yahweh recognizes what the devil has done in the world and recognizes that people have been oppressed and held down intentionally.
Psalms 22:27 G3403 [6shall remember G2532 7and G1994 8shall turn G4314 9to G2962 10 the lord G3956 1All G3588 2 the ones G4009 3at the ends G3588 4of the G1093 5earth]; G2532 and G4352 [6shall do obeisance G1799 7before G1473 8him G3956 1all G3588 2the G3965 3families G3588 4of the G1484 5nations].
“Call to mind and turn back towards Yahweh all the extremity the earth, and worship before the face of Him all the lineage the ethnos/nations.”
David tells people to remember and turn back to Yahweh throughout all the ends of the earth. He says to worship before the face of Yahweh all the lineages of the nations. David is not only speaking to Israel, he is speaking to the nations, the ethnos. The nations are called to worship and turn back to Yahweh. When we think of the non-Jews that Jesus interacted with, and the non-Jews who received Jesus and the Holy Spirit after Pentecost, we see that David is writing to the ethnos into the future.
Psalms 22:28 G3754 For G3588 of the G2962 lord G3588 is the G932 kingdom; G2532 and G1473 he G1202.1 is master G3588 of the G1484 nations.
“Because Yahweh the royalty and he dominates the ethnos/nations.”
Why are the nations called to turn to Yahweh and worship him? Because Yahweh is royalty and he dominates over the nations. Yahweh is not only the God of Israel, Yahweh is the God of the nations. Yahweh is the Lord of the nations.
Psalms 22:29 G2068 [6ate G2532 7and G4352 8did obeisance G3956 1All G3588 2the G4104.2 3hearty G3588 4of the G1093 5earth]; G1799 [8before G1473 9him G4312.1 7fell down G3956 1all G3588 2the ones G2597 3going down G1519 4into G3588 5the G1093 6earth]. G2532 And G3588 G5590 my soul G1473 G1473 lives for him. G2198
“All the fat the earth eat and worship before the face of him, hurry, all descend into earth, and my soul lives him.”
David encourages us to eat the fat of the earth, or in other words, eat well. We are also to worship while we are alive because all people die and descend into the earth. But our souls can live in Him.
Psalms 22:30 G2532 And G3588 G4690 my seed G1473 G1398 shall serve G1473 to him. G312 [3shall be announced G3588 4to the G2962 5 lord G1074 1 The generation G3588 G2064 2coming].
“And my offspring be a slave to him, announce Yahweh generation to come.”
David is asking for his heirs to serve Yahweh and to announce Yahweh to the generations to come. All of David’s heirs didn’t walk uprightly, but some did, all the way to Mary and Joseph. Jesus came through David’s lineage. The Messiah is a son of David.
Psalms 22:31 G2532 And G312 they shall announce G3588 G1343 his righteousness G1473 G2992 to a people, G3588 to the one G5088 being born, G3739 whom G4160 [3made G3588 1the G2962 2 lord]
“And announce his justice the people bring into the world that Yahweh make.”
David says that we are to announce His justice to the people being brought into the world that Yahweh made. We are to tell our children. We are to tell our friends. We are to tell those who don’t know him. Yahweh is the Lord of the nations. Jesus died on a cross for all of us. He rose up on the third day.
Jesus still bears the marks of a back that was whipped, hands/wrists and feet/ankles that were impaled with stakes, and a hole in his side. He also bears the marks of a face that was beaten beyond the recognition of human form, with chunks of his beard missing from his face. Jesus also has scars on his head from the crown of thorns that were pounded into his scalp. He looks like he was slaughtered. We will be surprised on the day of redemption to see a man who was slain.
Let’s close with a prophecy of Jesus from Isaiah.
Brenton Septuagint.
Isaiah 53:1 O Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 We brought a report as of a child before him; he is as a root in a thirsty land: he has no form nor comeliness; and we saw him, but he had no form nor beauty. 3 But his form was ignoble, and inferior to that of the children of men; he was a man in suffering, and acquainted with the bearing of sickness, for his face is turned from us: he was dishonoured, and not esteemed. 4 He bears our sins, and is pained for us: yet we accounted him to be in trouble, and in suffering, and in affliction. 5 But he was wounded on account of our sins, and was bruised because of our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and by his bruises we were healed. 6 All we as sheep have gone astray; every one has gone astray in his way; and the Lord gave him up for our sins. 7 And he, because of his affliction, opens not his mouth: he was led as a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before the shearer is dumb, so he opens not his mouth. 8 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken away from the earth: because of the iniquities of my people he was led to death. 9 And I will give the wicked for his burial, and the rich for his death; for he practised no iniquity, nor craft with his mouth. 10 The Lord also is pleased to purge him from his stroke. If ye can give an offering for sin, your soul shall see a long-lived seed: 11 the Lord also is pleased to take away from the travail of his soul, to shew him light, and to form him with understanding; to justify the just one who serves many well; and he shall bear their sins. 12 Therefore he shall inherit many, and he shall divide the spoils of the mighty; because his soul was delivered to death: and he was numbered among the transgressors; and he bore the sins of many, and was delivered because of their iniquities.
