In defense of our partner The Holy Spirit. As we talk about
fellowship/partnership/communion we find that we are in partnership with the
Holy Spirit. This is the greatest partnership a child of God can have and we
need to take the time to explore what this partnership entails. What is our
responsibility? How does this partnership work? In many religious cultures the
Holy Spirit is the silent partner as men believe they are more intelligent. But
who should be silent and who should lead the way? Do we direct the Holy Spirit?
These are important questions. If we reflect on our previous study and the
history that we reviewed, we will see the bigger picture regarding our
relationship with the Holy Spirit.
In Paul’s prayer, the translators used the word fellowship for the Greek word koinonia, and as we previously noted,
fellowship or communion are words that do not communicate into our modern
understanding very well. Koinonia
means partnership or a communicative relationship (social intercourse). The
first thing that we need to understand is that we are to communicate with the
Holy Spirit. Some translations use the word communion,
but we are not having a remembrance ceremony or a love feast with the Holy
Spirit, while other translations use fellowship,
but we are not paling around with the Holy Spirit, we are in communication with
the Holy Spirit.

2842 κοινωνία koinōnia koy-nohn-ee'-ah From G2844; partnership,
that is, (literally) participation, or (social) intercourse,
or (pecuniary) benefaction KJV Usage: (to) communicate (-ation),
communion, (contri-), distribution, fellowship.
In a partnership, both or all of the participants
communicate, unless it is a silent partnership. Misguided humans may believe
that they direct the Holy Spirit, as a magician, commanding the Holy Spirit to
perform miracles or healings. That is not how our partnership with the Holy
Spirit works. We are in no way superior to the Holy Spirit. And what kind of
silliness is it that makes humans believe that the works of the Holy Spirit are
evil or fulfilled by the devil? Although the devil is termed the prince of this
world or the god of this world, the devil is a created being, and does not have
the power or ability that the Holy Spirit does. People have been misrepresenting
the works of the Holy Spirit for thousands of years, so let’s see what we can
learn. Look what the Holy Spirit did two thousand years ago.
Matt 1:18-20 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place under
these circumstances: When His mother Mary had been promised in marriage to
Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be pregnant [through the
power] of the Holy Spirit. 19 And her [promised] husband Joseph, being a just
and upright man and not willing to expose her publicly and to shame and
disgrace her, decided to repudiate and dismiss (divorce) her quietly and
secretly. 20 But as he was thinking this over, behold, an angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, descendant of David, do not be
afraid to take Mary [as] your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of
(from, out of) the Holy Spirit. AMP
Mary got pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Think
about Mary’s response to this news. Yet people didn’t believe Jesus was born in
that manner. Our Western understanding of this is very limited because of our
need for Christmas time church plays. The reality we fail to recognize is that
since Isaiah prophesied it, every young girl believed and expected she could
bring forth the Messiah. But as history explains, the Messiah would not come
from the Pharisaical lines because of their rejection of the Holy Spirit, but
instead from the lines of the true followers of the Holy Spirit. This turned
out to be the Essenes/Nazarenes/Therapeutaes and the Damascus Community.
The Pharisees are the group who stayed in temple service
rather than leaving when a defiled person was made High Priest by a Roman
government official. That person was not of the Aaronic lineage and was a
defilement to the priesthood. Those people who compromised, rejected the Holy
Spirit, so naturally the Messiah could not come from those people. This is one
of those crazy areas of history we have to get straight. Because of this, the
Pharisees rejected Jesus and again rejected the Holy Spirit and the miraculous
work of the Holy Spirit. It gets worse when we recognize that for many years
the rabbi’s kept trying to introduce someone else as the Messiah and even had
to erase parts of the prophecies in Isaiah to fit their model.
Think of this, the Holy Spirit brought forth the expected
Messiah from the Davidic lines of a practicing Nazarene; and as we know, Jesus
was protected and educated in the ways of the Essenes/Nazarenes/Therapeutaes,
which is what made the contention between the Pharisees and Jesus so harsh.
Many people are blind, not just the Pharisees, that is what rejecting the Holy
Spirit does to people. The unforgivable sin is to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. So
when one denies the prophecy of Isaiah, which was inspired by the Holy Spirit,
and then rejects the conception of Jesus, and then rejects His Messiahship, one
is rejecting the Holy Spirit on three counts. That is not forgivable.
Matt 12:31-32 Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy
(every evil, abusive, injurious speaking, or indignity against sacred things)
can be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the [Holy] Spirit shall not and
cannot be forgiven. 32 And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be
forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Spirit, the Holy One, will not be
forgiven, either in this world and age or in the world and age to come. AMP
Unforgivable means unforgivable. That does not mean that
one who makes Jesus Lord is free and clear. This unforgivable sin means that
while a believer may have eternal life, the believer may not receive mercy
because of the misrepresentation of the Holy Spirit. What is misrepresenting
the Holy Spirit? Attributing things that the Holy Spirit does to the devil, or
to men, or as coincidence or luck is misrepresenting the work of Holy Spirit.
Paul says he received mercy because he was ignorant. People in the body of
Christ are no more ignorant than the Pharisees were. All sins and blasphemies
are released, except when speaking against the Holy Spirit.

Speaking against the Holy Spirt is not forgiven or released
in this present age or in the one coming. Jesus said it. It is recorded in Mark
and Luke as well.
Mark 3:29-30 But whoever speaks abusively against or

2920 κρίσις krisis kree'-sis (Subjectively
or objectively, for or against); by extension a tribunal; by

Usage: accusation, condemnation, damnation, judgment.
Think about spending eternity with an everlasting trespass.
Jesus was not just speaking to Jews, he was speaking to anyone who speaks
against the Holy Spirit and the works of the Holy Spirit. Jesus says all sins
will be forgiven except this one thing.
Luke 12:10 And everyone who makes a statement or speaks a
word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes
against the Holy Spirit [that is, whoever intentionally comes short of the
reverence due the Holy Spirit], it will not be forgiven him [for him there is
no forgiveness]. AMP
The Holy Spirit deserves reverence, respect. The Holy
Spirit is our partner, but is not a silent partner. We would do better to
consider ourselves the silent partner rather than the Holy Spirit. With the
Holy Spirit as our partner, we then have to communicate with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit brought the Messiah to earth. Since humans are incapable of
such things, people should ask the Holy Spirit for direction rather than trying
to provide direction themselves. Again, think about Mary’s response.
Heb 3:7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you
will hear His voice, AMP
The Holy Spirit says. The quote is from Ps 95:7-11, but
note that the writer of Hebrews tells us that the Holy Spirit says things, lego. If our partner, who brought the
Messiah to earth, speaks, we should listen and obey. David understood this and
before Christ’s atonement for sin, the Holy Spirit could not remain with
someone in sin.
Ps 51:9-11 Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my
guilt and iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right,
persevering, and steadfast spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from Your
presence and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. AMP
David told us of many spiritual truths from the Holy
Spirit. Solomon only desired wisdom, the Spirit of Wisdom. The Wisdom of
Solomon was thrown out by the Masoretes because it teaches us about the Holy
Spirit. The Masoretes were descendants of the Pharisees, rejecting the Holy
Spirit, and rejecting the Messiah, they fell into superstitions and falsehood.
Paul makes this clear for us to be the silent partner, allowing the Holy Spirit
to direct us. He tells us that they, the disciples, are teaching others not by
human wisdom but by the Holy Spirit.
1 Cor 2:13 And we are setting these truths forth in words
not taught by human wisdom but taught by the [Holy] Spirit, combining and
interpreting spiritual truths with spiritual language [to those who possess the
Holy Spirit]. 14 But the natural, nonspiritual man does not accept or welcome
or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit
of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable
of knowing them [of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming
better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and
estimated and appreciated. AMP
The Holy Spirit is our teacher, and sometimes other humans
communicate to us the things of the Spirit, like David, Solomon, and Paul. But
those who reject the Holy Spirit’s gifts, teachings, and revelations, reject
the Holy Spirit and the workings of the Spirit.
Miracles are meaningless to them. They are incapable of knowing them. So
it is a merry-go-round; if one rejects the healings from the Holy Spirit, that
individual rejects the Holy Spirit, and if that individual rejects the Holy
Spirit’s works on the earth and the Holy Spirit, that individual is incapable
of knowing and understanding the things of the Holy Spirit. Humility is the
only way off the merry-go-round. Humility and becoming the silent partner,
allowing the Holy Spirit to speak.
Have you ever thought you might be conversing with someone
who just wanted to tell you what they know and never left room for you to
speak? It seems sometimes that people get into monologue mode and don’t allow
anyone with differing opinions to add their thoughts. It is almost as if the
person in monologue mode doesn’t care to hear from anyone else. In those cases
I sometimes wonder if I should ask if this is a monologue or a dialogue. That
way we are all clear as to whether I should add my thoughts or not. The Holy
Spirit has heard enough of our monologues, and would appreciate being able to
get a word in edgewise, being a partner and all. And if we thought we knew it
all, we are sadly mistaken as the disciples were inspired by the Holy Spirit so
that we could learn from them, even two thousand years later.
2 Peter 1:21 For no prophecy ever originated because some
man willed it [to do so — it never came by human impulse], but men spoke from
God who were borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit. AMP
Ezra understood this. He did not want to begin an
undertaking of world history without the Holy Spirit’s help. Ezra, as all the
other writers of both Old and New Covenants, wrote while the Holy Spirit spoke.
The writers are the silent partners.
2 Esd 14:22 But if I have found grace before thee, send the
Holy Ghost into me, and I shall write all that hath been done in the world
since the beginning, which were written in thy law, that men may find thy path,
and that they which will live in the latter days may live. KJV
Ezra wrote so that men could find Yahweh’s path and
especially for those people who would live in the latter days. These people
wrote the words that the Holy Spirit wanted communicated for others of later
times. Just like Isaiah prophesied the coming Messiah, people expected the
words of the Holy Spirit to come to pass. There was no question that a virgin
would conceive and bear a son who would be called God With Us.
But the prophets did not prophesy for themselves as Ezra
says. They prophesied for us. Peter says the same thing Ezra did.
1 Peter 1:10-12 The prophets, who prophesied of the grace
(divine blessing) which was intended for you, searched and inquired earnestly
about this salvation. 11 They sought [to find out] to whom or when this was to
come which the Spirit of Christ working within them was indicating when He
predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that should follow [them].
12 It was then disclosed to them that the services they were rendering were not
meant for themselves and their period of time, but for you. [It is these very]
things which have now already been made known plainly to you by those who
preached the good news (the Gospel) to you by the [same] Holy Spirit sent from
heaven. Into these things [the very] angels long to look! AMP
The interesting thing about what Ezra and Peter tell us is
that even the angels wanted to know about this salvation that was given to us,
but they were not privy ahead of time. The Holy Spirit told humans to write the
things that would happen in the future for people who would live after the
Messiah came, but even angels who minister to and for us wanted to see all the
details of our salvation, but those secrets were not given to them. Our partner
keeps secrets from the other supporting staff for our benefit. Being wise, the
Holy Spirit knew the benefit of not spilling the plan of salvation ahead of
time, as Paul tells us, otherwise the devil would never have crucified the Lord
of glory. Then Jesus would not have been able to redeem the dead from hades.
Paul says that his preaching was not with words only, but
with power and in the Holy Spirit.
1 Thess 1:5-6 For our [preaching of the] glad tidings (the
Gospel) came to you not only in word, but also in [its own inherent] power and
in the Holy Spirit and with great conviction and absolute certainty [on our
part]. You know what kind of men we proved [ourselves] to be among you for your
good. 6 And you [set yourselves to] become imitators of us and [through us] of
the Lord Himself, for you welcomed our message in [spite of] much persecution,
with joy [inspired] by the Holy Spirit; AMP
Power. The power of the Holy Spirit is what many wish to
deny, but the power of the Holy Spirit is a witness in and of itself. The
reason that healing evangelism has been promoted is because healing is a
witness. The lame man was healed and this was an attestation to the power of
the Holy Spirit. When people are healed it is a tangible sign that the gospel
message is true. We can see why blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is so evil, it
keeps people from salvation. It is interesting that even though there is
persecution when the gospel is preached, our partner inspires joy in us. The
Holy Spirit is not an impersonal partner, and the Holy Spirit is interested in
gathering the unsaved. This is the reason for Spiritual power.
Rom 15:16 In making me a minister of Christ Jesus to the
Gentiles. I act in the priestly service of the Gospel (the good news) of God,
in order that the sacrificial offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable [to
God], consecrated and made holy by the Holy Spirit. AMP
Keep in mind that the word Gentile is not quite accurate. The word here is goy or goyim in Hebrew and ethnos
in Greek meaning “nations”. Gentile has a derogatory connotation which is used
even in modern times as “less than” the Jews. Paul is preaching to the nations
so that the nations can be made holy by the Holy Spirit. Our partner has a plan
for all the peoples, nations, tribes, and ethnic groups of the world to become
holy, not just one group or church denomination.
Paul reminds Timothy that the deposit has been entrusted to
him with the help of the Holy Spirit.
2 Tim 1:14 Guard and keep [with the greatest care] the
precious and excellently adapted [Truth] which has been entrusted [to you], by
the [help of the] Holy Spirit Who makes His home in us. AMP
2 Tim1:14G3588[2the G25703good

G1223through G4151[2spirit
G391holy],
G3588of the one G1774dwelling G1722in G1473us!
The word trust is
paratheke meaning “deposit, as in a
trust account”. Timothy is told to guard the beautiful deposit through the Holy
Spirit who dwells in us. In verse 12 Paul states that he knows who he believes
in and is persuaded that He is able to guard his (Paul’s) deposit until that
day, therefore Timothy should also guard that deposit through the Holy Spirit
who dwells in him/us. Our partner lives with us.
1 Cor 6:19 Do you not know that your body is the temple
(the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have
received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, AMP
Our partner lives within us, and we provide the housing,
while our partner provides knowledge and ability. If we are the shell, the
mechanical side of this partnership, the brains of this dwelling are the Holy
Spirit. This is another reason we should
be more like a silent partner, the Holy Spirit dwelling in us means we have
knowledge, wisdom, discerning of spirits, foreknowledge, miracle working power,
supernatural faith, and healing within us, but should be subject to the Holy
Spirit’s guidance.
1 Cor 12:3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one
speaking under the power and influence of the [Holy] Spirit of God can [ever]
say, Jesus be cursed! And no one can [really] say, Jesus is [my] Lord, except
by and under the power and influence of the Holy Spirit. AMP
If someone is speaking under the power and influence of the
Holy Spirit, they are speaking for their partner, and our partner never curses
Jesus. In fact, the only way we really know that someone has made Jesus their
Lord is by speaking under the power and influence of the Holy Spirit. Our
partnership proves our salvation. Again, the need for power is for the
salvation of others.
Heb 2:4 [Besides this evidence] it was also established and
plainly endorsed by God, Who showed His approval of it by signs and wonders and
various miraculous manifestations of [His] power and by imparting the gifts of
the Holy Spirit [to the believers] according to His own will. AMP
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are imparted to the believers;
which means that if we are not seeing the gifts working in us, then something
is wrong. It could be that we have rejected the Holy Spirit, blasphemed the
Holy Spirit, or denied the gifts of the Holy Spirit due to our own pride or
ignorance. We are not the controlling partner; if we are humble, we are the
silent partner. Miracles follow those who allow the Holy Spirit to be in
charge. Our partner knows what gifts to use and when.
Rom 9:1 I AM speaking the truth in Christ. I am not lying;
my conscience [enlightened and prompted] by the Holy Spirit bearing witness
with me AMP
Paul says that his conscience is enlightened and prompted
by way of the Holy Spirit bearing witness within him. Our partner will
enlighten our understanding, and help us to be an example if we ourselves allow
our partner to be in charge. As Solomon tells us, the Holy Spirit does not
dwell with a malicious or sinful person.
Wisdom 1:4-5 For into a malicious soul wisdom shall not
enter; nor dwell in the body that is subject unto sin.5 For the holy spirit of
discipline will flee deceit, and remove from thoughts that are without
understanding, and will not abide when unrighteousness cometh in. KJV
Paul says that the Holy Spirit enlightens him, but Solomon
says that the Holy Spirit will leave an unrighteous person without
understanding. This relationship is conditional upon our behavior. How can the
Holy Spirit teach an unteachable and/or prideful person? If an individual
believes they know everything that there is to know, then they have shut out
their partner. If an individual desires to learn the gifts of the Holy Spirit,
the individual needs to learn from the Holy Spirit. If an individual lacks
humility to engage and converse with their partner, that individual has rejected
their partner the Holy Spirit.
Wisdom 9:16-17 And hardly do we guess aright at things that
are upon earth, and with labour do we find the things that are before us: but
the things that are in heaven who hath searched out?17 And thy counsel who hath
known, except thou give wisdom, and send thy Holy Spirit from above? KJV
Solomon teaches us that if we want knowledge and wisdom, then
we have to have the Holy Spirit. Our partner is wise. But in the old times the
Israelites grieved the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirt left.
Isa 63:10-11 But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit;
therefore He turned to become their enemy and Himself fought against them. 11
Then His people [seriously] remembered the days of old, of Moses and his people
[and they said], Where is He Who brought [our fathers] up out of the [Red] Sea,
with [Moses and the other] shepherds of His flock? Where is He Who put His Holy
Spirit within their midst, AMP
We are told not to grieve the Holy Spirit as well.
Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not
offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's
own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ
from evil and the consequences of sin). AMP
Our partner has feelings, and we should keep in perspective
that our rejection of the Holy Spirit or making some claim that the gifts and
power of the Holy Spirit are from the devil means that we are grieving or
vexing our partner. The Holy Spirit will not dwell with us if we are mean,
prideful, never allow the Holy Spirit to speak, or a rejecter of the gifts and
miraculous power. If the situation was reversed and we were treated poorly, not
listened to, not allowed to speak, and everything we did do, we were ridiculed
for or told it was someone else who did it, we would leave that partnership
very quickly.
There is no question that Daniel was a great prophet. So
great in fact that the Masorete’s chopped up his writings, and attempted to
disregard entire portions of Daniel’s prophecies. In many ways the prophets
were treated the same way the Holy Spirit is treated. But when Daniel was young
and newly in captivity, the Lord raised up or inspired Daniel to act on behalf
of someone which saved the life of an innocent woman.
Sus 42-51 Then Susanna cried out with a loud voice, and
said, O everlasting God, that knowest the secrets, and knowest all things
before they be:43 Thou knowest that they have borne false witness against me,
and, behold, I must die; whereas I never did such things as these men have
maliciously invented against me.44 And the Lord heard her voice.45 Therefore
when she was led to be put to death, the Lord raised up the holy spirit of a
young youth whose name was Daniel:46 Who cried with a loud voice, I am clear
from the blood of this woman.47 Then all the people turned them toward him, and
said, What mean these words that thou hast spoken?48 So he standing in the
midst of them said, Are ye such fools, ye sons of Israel, that without
examination or knowledge of the truth ye have condemned a daughter of Israel?49
Return again to the place of judgment: for they have borne false witness
against her50 Wherefore all the people turned again in haste, and the elders
said unto him, Come, sit down among us, and shew it us, seeing God hath given
thee the honour of an elder.51 Then said Daniel unto them, Put these two aside
one far from another, and I will examine them. KJV
Susanna prayed, and the Holy Spirit partnering with Daniel
inspired Daniel to re-try the false accusers. Daniel scared the people who first
condemned Susanna to death because of the words that he spoke. He spoke from
his partner the Holy Spirit, and Susanna’s false accusers were put to
death.
Jesus tells us that the Father gives the Holy Spirit to
those who ask, but to some people the works of the Holy Spirit look like
demonic works.
Luke 11:13-15 If you then, evil as you are, know how to
give good gifts [gifts that are to their advantage] to your children, how much
more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask and
continue to ask Him! 14 Now Jesus was driving out a demon that was dumb; and it
occurred that when the demon had gone out, the dumb man spoke. And the crowds
marveled. 15 But some of them said, He drives out demons [because He is in
league with and] by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, AMP
Would there ever be a time where the devil would wish to
heal someone who will then in turn praise Yahweh for his healing? Does the
devil even have the power to heal? The devil doesn’t drive out his own demons,
just as Jesus said. How backwards is it to call good evil? This is why speaking
against the works of the Holy Spirit are not forgiven because calling good evil
is manipulation. Calling the healings of the Holy Spirit evil is manipulation,
intimidation, and domination. Calling the gifts of the Holy Spirit evil or the
works of witchcraft is actually witchcraft, because witchcraft is manipulation,
intimidation, and domination. It is a way to control others. It is also a way
to keep others from salvation. If someone condemns the works of the Holy Spirit
they are blaspheming the Holy Spirit. What human is so smart that he/she knows
more than the Holy Spirit? Jesus was not fooling around when he told us
speaking against the Holy Spirit was unforgivable.
Jesus Ben Sirach gives us some wisdom to ponder. Who are we
partnering with, who are we following, and who are we trusting?
Ecclus 13:1-2 He that toucheth pitch shall be defiled
therewith; and he that hath fellowship with a proud man shall be like unto
him.2 Burden not thyself above thy power while thou livest; and have no
fellowship with one that is mightier and richer than thyself: for how agree the
kettle and the earthen pot together? for if the one be smitten against the
other, it shall be broken. KJV
Ecclus 13:14-20 Love the Lord all thy life, and call upon
him for thy salvation.15 Every beast loveth his like, and every man loveth his
neighbor.16 All flesh consorteth according to kind, and a man will cleave to
his like.17 What fellowship hath the wolf with the lamb? so the sinner with the
godly.18 What agreement is there between the hyena and a dog? and what peace
between the rich and the poor? 19 As the wild ass is the lion's prey in the
wilderness: so the rich eat up the poor.20 As the proud hate humility: so doth
the rich abhor the poor. KJV
Instead of being prideful, we need humility to converse
with our partner. Like Mary, and agreeable partnership is better for all of us.
We need our partner, the Holy Spirit and the power and gifts of the Holy Spirt
so that others can receive salvation. This is our mission and the reason that the
Holy Spirt is given to those who ask. The power and gifts of the Holy Spirit
are not evil, instead our partner the Holy Spirit is fulfilling a mission on
the earth and we can be a part of that mission.
