Angels and Others

Markawasi (also spelled Marchausi) is an unusual place of carved rocks in Peru. Truly if I had unlimited resources I’d travel Peru for months on end.  The country is truly exciting.  A while back I was flipping channels   and landed on the Documentary Channel which was airing a show on Markawasi.  It was incredible to see how many sculptures and granite carvings there were.  Most pictures cannot do it justice, but time lapse photography shows the images as they start to appear in the rock and slowly disappear.  There are carvings of peoples of all nations, a Sphinx, a lion, dolphins.  Markawasi sits at 12,000 ft above sea level, and the dating of the carvings pre date the earliest known peoples of the region.  The big question is how can people living in Peru know what a Sphinx is?

Markawasi is also known for its hyper spiritualism.  Many people believe it is an area of high paranormal activity.  I can’t speak to that as I have never been there.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen a UFO and no one has ever told me they were abducted by a UFO so I truly have no personal frame of reference in that area.  What I do know is that many people open themselves up to spiritual things because they are trying to find answers.  Christians happen to do a huge disservice to this people group, but not because of hate, but because of fear and ignorance.  Christians tend to lump spiritual things into two categories, good and bad.  Anything that people have not learned about becomes bad and the continued Constantinian propounding of our God has given us a lopsided view of the world. There are so many heavenly beings but we’ve never taken note of them.  We’ve put wings on some that don’t have wings, we’ve over looked some altogether, and we’ve rendered art work that is nothing like the descriptions we do have in the bible.

Adam was created in the image of Elohim, a little lower in authority than Elohim.   He was created in the image and likeness of Elohim.  Remembering an earlier post im is plural in Hebrew.  He was told to subdue the garden, to guard it, which was east of Eden.  If the Garden of Eden was near the Tigris and Euphrates then what is west of the Garden? Eden was west of the Garden of Eden; that seems like it would be Israel.  Is that why there is still an ancient battle wagging over that land?

David later writes concerning man:
Ps 8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. KJV
There is a problem here.  The word angels is the word Elohim.  This is the only place Elohim is ever translated as angels.   I understand why the KJV translates it this way. Firstly the Pope was supposed to be god on earth, how can the peasants be equal to the pope and have the same authority.  Secondly if people thought of themselves as equal to the church superiors the offerings would dry up as commoners would not need a priest to pay penitence to.  Because Adam was created higher in authority to the other beings, Lucifer was not happy.  Lucifer was called the Anointed Cherub, I’m sure he wasn’t a little naked baby with curly blond hair and big blue eyes and little wings.  It would seem Cherub are a mighty class of heavenly beings.  I am including strong’s numbers and definitions in the end notes.

Hebrews states concerning Jesus
Heb 2:5-9
5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.
6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?
7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels [read God here]; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. KJV

We understand that the translation from Hebrews followed the ‘angels’ translation of Psalm8 but we need to look at that a little closer.  Possibly as verse nine states because of the suffering of death Jesus was made a little lower than the angels, however Jesus states in the garden that he could have twelve Legions of Angels at his asking.  Also when he was in the wilderness fasting the angels came and ministered to him.  It would seem that Jesus was not lower than the angels but in an earthly body he did have to suffer on the cross.

Heb 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. KJV
1 Peter 3:22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. KJV

The obvious problem with Psalm 8:5 is that if we want to  translate the word Elohim as angels, or heavenly beings , then it must have been angels who created the heavens and earth as in Genesis 1:1.  That would change the common Judeo and Christian belief system.  While other cultures are poly theists the Judeo Christian belief system is mono theist, with the clarification that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are all one God.  In purpose direction and function they are all one.

So with that understanding, if man is made just a little lower then God, who does man have authority over? Angels are to minister to the heirs of salvation; therefore they are to help out the children of God.
Heb 1:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? KJV

We see angels as messengers, sending warnings, or causing the enemies of the children of Israel trouble.  Angels have broken people out of prison, they write things down, and Jesus said that the angels of children always behold the face of God.  We know that they will come to gather the elect and that we will judge them. They are not described with wings but they are said to fly however. Jacob saw them ascending and descending on a ladder,  and they most often look like men.  Also, where the bible says men or man in linen we assume them to be angels, but truly we don’t know if they are angels or some other being.  One example of men we assume are angels is written in Ezekiel 9 where they were instructed to mark the foreheads of those who mourn for Israel.  Then they were told to slay everyone without the mark.  There are also Archangels, Michael and Uriel, who seem to be above the other angels.

There are Cherubim ( im plural) mentioned in the bible.  Lucifer was one as previously stated.  They seem to guard things and were very important to the design of the Ark of the Covenant.  They fly and God seems to ride on them.  They have multiple faces, one of a Cherub, one of a man, one of a lion, and one of an eagle.  It seems that the face of a Cherub and the face of a man must be different as there would be no telling the difference between them if Cherubs looked like men.  The wheels that Ezekiel saw moved every time the wings of the Cherubim moved.  They must also have access to the garden of God and they guarded the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve were sent out.

Seraphim (again im is plural) are a very strange group of beings.  They are known as the Burning Ones.  They seem to come with fire and are mostly denoted as serpents or snakes.  I am not making this up.  They seem to be more of a reptile with fire.  They also have six wings.  Is it possible that ancient cultures who denoted winged serpents were trying to denote Seraphim?  There are a few Native American cultures who speak of serpent people that helped save their civilizations.  Maybe where we have labeled ancient cultures as demonic they were simply communicating seraphim.   The Dead Sea Scrolls mention watchers as serpent faced beings.  They seem to have human voices, and they declare Holy, Holy,Holy. They have faces and feet as well.  This is one of those mysteries that seem so obscure in the bible because we have never really been taught about it.  Yet there are many cultures that seem to freely portray flying serpents.  I truly have no real answers here except to copy and paste the strong’s numbers and definitions in the end notes.

In the only occurrence in the bible the prophet Zechariah speaks of winged women.  They came down to earth, put an evil spirit in a leaded container and took it away.  This is the only occurrence of women being of the heavenly class.  Their wings were very large, like a stork’s wings.  All the usages of wings and stork are in a feminine form.  There isn’t much more that can be understood from the text.

There are ministering spirits which we noted previously, and there are Watchers.  Watchers seem to be messengers that came to Daniel as well as to Nebuchadnezzar.  So watchers come to bring messages to Israelites and non Israelites.  And they come down from heaven.  There are beings called the Morning Stars and they seem to sing. So far this is the first group of beings that seem to sing.  There are beings that are called the Sons of God, and it would seem that they shout for joy.  They also present themselves to God.  The name Sons of God is a broad name and could very well denote all the heavenly beings instead of a specific class of being, but maybe not.  Another broad term which could denote the entire class of heavenly beings is Host of Heavens or Heavenly Host.  These beings seem to surround the Lord and they also praise him.  They seem to be a warring class of beings.  Moses was very specific that humans are not to worship them or to serve them.  Moses also says that they have been divided up among all the nations.  In Revelation there are 24 elders that could be either human or celestial, seven Spirits of God and four beasts. There are the four living creatures of Ezekiel which seem similar to the beasts of Revelation.

This is a quick snapshot of some of the heavenly beings.  There are others such as demons, principalities powers and rulers of the darkness of this world. As we will see in the future, the Nephilim were off spring of fallen angels and their spirits had to be dealt with as they were part angel and part human. It seems that our world is crowded with hyper dimensional beings that we know very little about.  We are hardly aware of them.  Not because the spirit realm is not important or not real, it is probably more real than the physical world we live in.  We are just not trained to be aware of spiritual matters.  As we can see from what David wrote, we are above heavenly spiritual beings; man was created that way, with the angelic class to assist him.  But not all men wish to be heirs of salvation.  That is why it seems angels fight against people on behalf of the children of God.  If they are divided up among the nations, are they there to help humans who will be heirs, and are ready to gather them when the time has come? Keeping our perspective straight about who has wings and who doesn’t, and what they look like what their functions are, is important when communicating with people who don’t believe the things you do.  Instead of bundling everything into the angel basket we can be more specific.

I can’t speak for people who have gone to Markawasi and had spiritual experiences, but I can say that there is a lot more going on then homogenized religion allows us to know.  We will explore the negative side of the spirit realm so we can understand those who are against us, but not just yet.
