Spiritual Understanding; Paul’s Proofs; Hidden Secret Treasures; Mystery


As children we have probably all played Hide and Go Seek where a few children hide and another child tries to find everyone. We may have also played Hot and Cold where one child hides something and another child has to search for what was hidden while being guided by whether he is hot (near) or cold (far). We all love a hidden treasure or a secret mystery. We all rejoice in finding what was hidden. The Heavenly Father hid a mystery before the ages. The secret that was hidden could not be found unless certain conditions were met. None of the heavenly beings could find it even though they searched. The devil, the incorporeal satan, the angels and the demons, did not know this treasure existed. Today no one can find it until they become spiritual or non-carnal. Paul prays for people to have a jam-packed full perception and recognition of the Father’s inclinations in wisdom and ethereal intellect. The journey to ethereal intelligence leads us to the hidden secrets, the treasures, and the mystery that was hidden eons ago. Paul also sets a proof for all people who would call themselves prophets and or spiritual. If people do not fulfill this requirement, this proof, then they are not prophets or spiritual. The treasures that we find on this journey are for our own glory as the children of the Most High God because the spiritual ones are becoming a holy sacerdotal order.

Paul says that he doesn’t stop praying for the Colossians. He asks for them to be jam packed with full knowledge of the Almighty, Most High, Eternal, Heavenly Fathers will.

Paul is suggesting that it is possible to have an over abundant recognition or intuition of the desires of the Heavenly Father. If he is praying this then it must be something we can attain to. Paul is not just praying for overabundant intuition of the Fathers purposes, but for people to attain to this overabundant intuition in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

Wisdom is broad and full intelligence in many things. Just as the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Wisdom, we can have wisdom through the Holy Spirit. Paul prays for broad and full intelligence and ethereal practical discernment, or spiritually putting things together in our mind. This is sophia and sunesis pneumatikos, broad intelligence and divine intellect. 

What is Paul praying? For people to have an over abundant recognition of the desires of the Heavenly Father in broad intelligence and divine intellect. Paul is praying for people to be spiritually smart in all things concerning the Father’s will. The idea of knowledge and intelligence comes up three times in three different ways; epignōsis, full knowledge; sophia, broad and full intelligence; sunesis pneumatikos, spiritual intellect and knowledge. He is praying for an overflowing, complete knowledge of the Father’s desire through insight and spiritual intelligence. Solomon suggested this as well.

The Holy Spirit is the archē, first in rank, the Spirit of Wisdom. Therefore procure or obtain wisdom and through possession of wisdom acquire spiritual understanding. Solomon is suggesting for his sons to put an effort into spiritual wisdom and understanding. In other words, they should strive for it. It is not going to find them, they have to find sophia. Sophia is the beginning. Paul tells us where to find treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Paul is speaking to those who have not yet met him, that they should be instructed in love and in the wealth of full assurance of sunesis into epignōsis of the mustērion. What is the mystery? 1 Corinthians 2:7, 1 Corinthians 15:51, Ephesians 3:3-ff, Colossians 1:26-27, Romans 11:25. The mystery was hidden from the eons and if the devil would have known he would never have crucified Jesus. The mystery is that the nations would be joint-heirs, joint-bodies, and joint-partners of salvation. Salvation is now opened to all who receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, and the koinōnia, fellowship of all those who join in Jesus as Messiah, have Christ within, which is the hope of glory. We are simply waiting for the number of nations to come into the sheepfold before the harpazo occurs. This mystery, at the last trump when the dead in Christ rise, putting on incorruption and those on the earth are caught up and changed into immortality. Paul wants people to have a wealth of full assurance of understanding and full knowledge of the mystery. Because in the mystery, the hidden secrets are hidden treasures of sophia and gnōsis.

It is called a mystery because it conceals something. The treasures it conceals are broad intellect and deeper more perfect knowledge. If one throws away the mystery, the hidden secrets, that one throws away wisdom and knowledge. To have spiritual understanding we have to know the mystery, and within the mystery is a storehouse of precious valuables.   

Gnōsis is like a judicial inquiry. The United State recently lived though a judicial inquiry that lasted a few years. This denotes effort and time. Within the secret doctrine there is intelligence in spiritual things and a secret judicial inquiry. The word “secret” denotes hidden intelligence. The mystery was hidden intelligence, because if the devil knew about the nations entering into the Body of Christ and the harpazo, he would not have murdered Jesus. The spiritual understanding of this hidden intelligence is not for everyone, only for those who pursue and acquire wisdom. Therefore, as we will see shortly, not everyone can understand this spiritual mystery. Paul says that this mystery was preordained before the aiōn or ages.

Paul speaks the sophia of God in a hidden secret mystery, that was before the ages for our glory. The mystery is for the glory of the Children of God. This secret hidden mystery is not for the devil. It is not for the incorporeal satan. It is not for the angels. It is not for the demons. The secret hidden mystery, preordained before the age, was for the dignity, honor, splendor and praise of the children of the Most High God of this age. The secret hidden mystery was not for anyone else of any other age, but for this age only. The rulers of this age did not ginōskō this hidden mystery.

The god of this world, the incorporeal satan, the fallen angels, and the demons, did not have a judicial inquiry regarding the hidden secret mystery of this age. Otherwise Jesus would still be alive. The concealed mystery shot a hole in their plan to destroy humanity. The nations have equal opportunity to be saved, filled with Christ, members of the Body, and to put on incorruption and immortality at the sound of the last trump. Some portion of humanity will be redeemed. 

Notice what Paul suggests, there is a spirit of the cosmos.

We have not taken hold of the pneuma of the kosmos. Instead we take hold of the pneuma of the Almighty, Most High, Eternal, God. There are two different spirits spoken of here. We have to keep this in mind otherwise we will believe anyone and everyone who claims to be a child of the Living God.

We take hold of the pneuma out from the Living God so that we can see and perceive what God graciously gives us. The spirit of the cosmos will not grant us favor, broad intelligence, full understanding, or full knowledge of the mystery. This is why we see so many books written against the precepts of the mystery. Many people who claim to be children of God write books against the hidden secrets of the mystery because they have not taken hold of, or acquired, wisdom. We hear people say foolish things about the hidden secrets of the mystery simply because the hidden secrets of the mystery are not for them. They cannot know them in their present state. Paul explains, he does not speak about the mystery with human wisdom. That would be utilizing the spirit of the cosmos.

If we have the spirit of the Living God, the Holy Spirit instructs our spirit.

Pneumatikos joins together with pneumatikos. The Holy Spirit joins with our spirit. They collate. They connect. The Spirit of the Living God combines with our spirit so that when we speak of these mysteries and hidden secrets we speak from the Holy Spirit. Again, this is why so many people can have seemingly logical arguments about what they believe about the Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, the harpazo, redemption, etc, but if they are denying the mystery, they are speaking human wisdom from the spirit of the cosmos. Now Paul speaks more plainly.

The natural soulish animate human does not accept or welcome the spirit of the Most High God. This is why they cannot speak about hidden secret mysteries that the Heavenly Father predestined before the age of mankind. The human without the Holy Spirit joining their own human spirit is like an animal, they have the spirit of the cosmos and the wisdom of man. This is why they don’t take hold of, or welcome, the spirit of the Living God. As Solomon instructed, Wisdom is the origin, the beginning, and the first in order.  

Notice the difference between the lower animate man as compared to higher renovated man. We were not created in a bestial form so as to attain to a higher form, that is from ape to man. We were created in a spiritual form but we lost our higher form, and became lower, or animate. Humans are created in the image of the Elohim, with a spiritual nature that was lost in the fall. It seems children are far more spiritual than adults which suggests we become less spiritual as we age until we procure wisdom. Think about John leaping in Elizabeth’s womb at the arrival of Mary, pregnant with Jesus. The person who believes in Jesus, but rejects the things of the Holy Spirit, has not acquired wisdom or spiritual understanding. Therefore spiritual matters are thought of as foolish instead of treasured.

Our spirit is instructed by the Holy Spirit. We were not meant to be spiritually dead or to take up the spirit of the cosmos in human wisdom. The person who rejects the Holy Spirit is incapable and not strong enough to ginōskō the secret hidden treasures of the mystery.

The pneumatikos anakrinōs, the divine ethereal, scrutinizes everything, yet is not under anyone’s scrutiny. The spiritual investigates everything, but it is not investigated because it is from the Lord. This is why Paul prays for us to know the Father’s will.

Who ginōskōs the intellectual faculty of the Lord that proves him? Certainly not someone without the Spirit of Wisdom from the Heavenly Father. Certainly not someone who has the spirit of the cosmos and human wisdom. Certainly not someone whose spirit is not joined with the Holy Spirit. The word “But” can read “On the other hand”. So Paul is saying On the other hand we have the intellect of the Messiah. This is why he prayed for us to be completely filled with the full knowledge of the Father’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. Paul wants us to know the mystery that the Father hid from everyone else. This is for our glory as children of the Most High God.   

Paul’s very next sentence explains our problem. Paul could not speak to the Corinthians as spiritual people, but only as carnal people.

Infants in Christ cannot understand pneumatikos. Humans can stay infants, drinking milk for as long as they want. This means that they will stay fleshy and carnal, and will not grow up to become non-carnal. The infant can write many books, not understand the gifts of the spirit, the mystery the Father hid, or find the secret treasures. You decide if you wish to follow a carnal infant or a supernaturally regenerated child of the Most High God. The summation here is that infants are carnal, sometimes with a spirit of the cosmos and human wisdom, and they simply cannot understand the hidden secret treasures of the mystery. Now Paul has a strong warning for those ignorant of pneumatikos

Remember that the mystery is that the nations are fellow heirs of the same body and partakers in salvation with those Jews who believe on Jesus as Messiah. Before the nations came to know Christ they were led astray by dumb idols. However, now we are to understand that no one speaking in the pneuma of Theos says Jesus is anathema.

No one is cursing Jesus when they are speaking in the Spirit of God. And no one is capable of saying Lord Jesus, except in the Holy Spirit. No one is actually strong enough without the Holy Spirit residing within to say Lord Jesus. If the Holy Spirit teaches our spirit, and our spirit and the Holy Spirit combine, we will be able to call Jesus our Lord though speaking in the Holy Spirit. Take note of Paul’s warning, no one is able to say Jesus is Lord unless that one speaks by way of the Holy Spirit. Infants do not speak, or at least not intelligibly. Acquire Wisdom as Wisdom is first. 


Paul gives us a test for people who believe that they are a prophet or spiritual. That person is to epiginōskō what Paul writes.

What Paul writes are entolē, the precepts and injunctions of the Lord. Whoever claims to know something, or claims to speak for the Lord, or believes himself to be pneumatikos, that one must agree with the ordinances, commands, and prescriptions that Paul has written. What did Paul write? That we should know the will of the Father in wisdom and spiritual understanding. That we should know the mystery that Paul revealed to the church. That this mystery was preordained before the ages for our glory. That we are one Body, the Body of Christ. That we will either put on incorruption or immortality in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump. That there are spiritual gifts for the children of the Living God, and that they have a proper usage in a gathering. 

Clearly there are many who reject and refuse Paul’s words. Are they prophets or spiritual? No. Maybe those who reject Paul’s words are infants who are speaking incoherently. Maybe those who reject Paul’s words have the spirit of the cosmos and have human wisdom. Isn’t it interesting that Paul himself wrote into his letter a proof for people who would call themselves prophets and spiritual. If you are a prophet, or you believe yourself to be spiritual, prove it by saying what Paul says. There are so many people who overthrow the faith of others by disagreeing with Paul. Paul wants all of us to prove who we say we are. If we are connected with the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit will teach us and combine with our spirit. If we are carnal and fleshy, we will promote something different, and truly the devil will elevate anyone who disagrees with Paul. Remember, if the devil had only known the mystery then Jesus would still be alive. 

Peter gives us a clue as to why we are to have a completely full knowledge of the Fathers will in broad intelligence and divine intellect. It is because we are becoming something else, something different, something spiritual for the purposes of the Father.

We are living stones being constructed into an oikos pneumatikos, a spiritual house. What kind of a house is a spiritual house? A temple. We are a spiritual family of a holy priesthood that will carry up or bring pneumatikos thusia, spiritual sacrifice offerings, approved and favorable to the Almighty, Most High, Eternal, Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ. This is our destiny if we so choose. This is the reason for sophia and sunesis pneumatikos, broad intelligence and divine intellect. With the Holy Spirit connecting and combining with our spirit we can be instructed in the mysteries, the hidden secret treasures, and the abundant recognition, or intuition, of the desires of the Heavenly Father. 


Paul gave us the proof. If anyone rejects the mystery that Paul revealed, then that one is not prophetic or spiritual. This is our proof as to which spirit a person has, the spirit of the Father or the spirit of the cosmos; and which wisdom a person has, the wisdom of men or the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. This is the reason that we are to have wisdom and spiritual understanding, something the rulers of this cosmos don’t have. This journey leads us to our own glory as sons and daughters of the Almighty, Most High, Eternal, Heavenly Father, and towards becoming part of a sacerdotal order which is well received by the Father through Jesus Christ.
