Using Bad People for Good, One World Government or New World Order

Nebuchadrezzar, aka Nebuchadnezzar, was not the kind of person that one would think God would call his servant, but in fact he did. There are many instances where God does use bad people for good. That does not mean God is sending the evil, the devil does that. As we have studied, God is not beating us up. God does use the evil within people as a resource to produce a better result. The devil has schemes and plans, and accuses us before the throne day and night. As we recently studied the four horsemen are keeping peace on the earth. Underneath the relative peace are evil plans for people. If one of those plans can be used for an intended purpose, God will allow it. For example, God used Nimrod to scatter the people over the earth. That is what God told people to do after the flood, but instead they did not spread out. Nimrod built a city and tower, and became a self-appointed ruler/god to the people as we studied last week. Because the people didn’t move out over the earth, God moved them by confusing their language. It is interesting because while it seemed like a bad thing to the people, it was really a good thing. God wanted people to rely on him, not rely on other men. Our example of someone who relied on God is Abraham. Abraham moved quite a number of times all by God’s direction to avoid famine and drought. See the Book of Jasher. Today, people simply can’t move if there is a drought, our system of living has become like Babylon, and our dependence towards men and government has grown.

Another clear example we have is Joseph. Joseph’s brothers were mad that Joseph had dreams and visions of his brothers bowing to him, and that he seemed to be his father’s favorite son. Yet God used Jacob’s son’s bad behavior to actually save their descendants. The many years Joseph spent imprisoned or as a servant were quite painful. However, it prepared him for his own future and the future of God’s people.

Gen 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. KJV

Even though Nebuchadrezzar seemed like a crazy man, God used him to fulfil his purpose. If you remember, there was male prostitution in the temple in Jerusalem alongside the glory of God for about 300 years. While God is merciful, he wanted the people to look to him for their sufficiency. He told the people through Jeremiah that they would go into captivity for 70 years.

Jer 25:8-14 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Because ye have not heard my words,9 Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the Lord, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.10 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the Lord, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.14 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands. KJV

God took the northern kingdoms, who were already in captivity, and Nebuchadrezzar, to make Judah a desolation. Why? Because Judah did not hear God’s words. The root problem which started with Nimrod was that people were not hearing God’s words. Oh, really they heard God’s words, but they did not heed them. Instead of doing what God said, they did what they wanted. That is the key to understanding the world system of Babylon. There is no compromising or negotiations with God, we humans can either obey or not. Not obeying comes with consequences, while obedience comes with blessing.

Habakkuk was a contemporary of Jeremiah. He speaks of the Chaldeans as bitter and hasty people who take possession of land that is not theirs. Yet, don’t miss this, God raised them up.

Hab 1:5-7 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.6 For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not theirs.7 They are terrible and dreadful: their judgment and their dignity shall proceed of themselves. KJV

God used the Chaldeans for a purpose, someone needed to destroy the temple that had been so horribly defiled. Baruch tells us that is what the Chaldeans did.

Bar 1:1-2 And these are the words of the book, which Baruch the son of Nerias, the son of Maasias, the son of Sedecias, the son of Asadias, the son of Chelcias, wrote in Babylon,2 In the fifth year, and in the seventh day of the month, what time as the Chaldeans took Jerusalem, and burnt it with fire. KJV

It was the plan of God to put the people in a position to cry out to him. God wanted a personal relationship with his people, but people either turned to idols or became atheists. Abraham is our example, and even ancient people would put Abraham on a pedestal by claiming that Abraham was their father (Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob), yet Abraham did not have laws to live by, he lived by a heart relationship with God. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had a personal relationship with God. That should be our example today. When 70 years in captivity in Babylon was over, God used Cyrus to bring them back.

Isa 44:24-45:3 Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;25 That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;26 That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:27 That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid. 45:1 Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel. KJV

How strange, God used a guy who didn’t worship him to bring his people back to Jerusalem. God even called him his shepherd and said Cyrus was anointed. When Cyrus invaded Babylon and saw he was already written about, he was quite impressed with the God of Israel. Can you imagine opening a scroll only to find your name written in it from two hundred years ago, saying you are God’s shepherd? I would want to know who this God is who is writing about me.

Just in case we don’t recognize shadows and types, there is a big one here we should look at. Last week we read about Babylon being destroyed in the tribulation time period by the Medes, Isaiah 13. At the time of the writing Persia was called Elam. Elamites were originally descendants of Shem, we don’t know if Shemites still dwelt there in the time period of Babylon’s conquest when the Jews were finished with their 70 years of captivity. Elam is what we know as Persia. Cyrus was a Mede from his mother’s side and a Persian from his father’s side. Cyrus is a Medo-Persian. Cyrus took Babylon without a fight as Daniel tells us. What will happen again, in the tribulation, is that the Medes and Persians will overtake Babylon. Now if this is a shadow, then we also must realize that Jews being in Babylon in the future tribulation is a shadow of the past as well. We know that God calls his people to come out of Babylon in Revelation. Why are the Jews in Babylon today? It will make sense shortly.

This brings us to the realization that there is not a “one world government” until the very end of the tribulation when the beast destroys Babylon. Really, instead, today we are seeing a “new world order”. This N.W.O. is becoming more prevalent. I read a recent article that stated the United Nations considered it a human rights violation for a Detroit water company to turn off water to non-paying customers. Really? Since when does the UN weigh in on these matters? If someone does not pay their water bill they do not get water in the USA. That is how our free market society works. There is no obligation for a water company to provide water free of charge. Yet the United Nations thinks water companies should provide water regardless of getting paid? This type of Babylonian allegiance will become one side of a new world order where many countries unite in all the ways listed in Revelation 17&18. The other side is a more religious side which has many factions that do not get along. In fact they have been fighting each other for over one thousand years, but they will team up in the tribulation time to take over Babylon.

There are two very clear opposing governments in the tribulation, Babylon and the Beast. The Jews are among Babylon. There will be a wrestling within the Beast’s kingdom as there will be separate kingdoms that will ban together to form one alliance. Yet clearly they are noted as individual kingdoms that are the ten horns that are of one mind and give their power and authority to the beast. What we know today is that someone from the Medo-Persian Empire will join those two factions, the Medes and the Persians, to kill Babylon. That is what God inspires the Beast to do. The “One World Government” will be a forced allegiance, enforced by the sword. That is when Jesus comes with his armies and destroys the beast. After that time, the Day of the Lord, there will be a New World Order and a One World Government with Jesus in charge. Daniel tells us via an angel that there are six reasons Israelites ended up in this position until Jesus would come which was 30 A.D or so.

Dan 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression (1), and to make an end of sins(2), and to make reconciliation for iniquity (3), and to bring in everlasting righteousness (4), and to seal up the vision and prophecy (5), and to anoint the most Holy (6). KJV

Seventy sevens (490 years) are determined to do these six things. Unfortunately, Jesus was rejected as Messiah. What people had been looking for is for the Messiah to restore the kingdom. Yet Jesus accomplished a way to everlasting righteousness, he opened the kingdom of heaven. Now it may indeed look as if the Israelites blew it again by rejecting Jesus. And they did. However by rejecting Jesus, the door was open into the kingdom of heaven for the non-descendants of Jacob. Everyone on earth has an opportunity to enter in by believing Jesus is the Messiah. This is another example of using evil for good, however the Israelites would probably not see it that way. They could have been the elect nation that instructed the world regarding God. But Paul says their hearts are hardened until the number of Gentiles is fulfilled, Romans 11. Jesus said this:

Luke 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. KJV

God used a Roman, Titus Vespasian, to destroy Jerusalem. On the one hand, we can gather this to be a longer punishment than the 70 years in Babylon. These are the gap years Daniel tells us about. Technically, the Jews have been “in” Babylon ever since they returned to Jerusalem, because Jerusalem was overtaken by the Greeks, then the Romans, and eventually the Ottomans. Once the Israelites got their homeland back in 1948, which was won back for them by “Babylon” (figuratively the world system), “Babylon” has been helping them to share control of the region with the Palestinians. Israel allies itself with Babylon, while Babylon rides/controls the beast. The beast wants to kill both Israel and Palestine, but is held back by the New World Order of Babylon.

After Jesus was cut off, as Daniel puts it, Jerusalem was destroyed again. This continues until the war of the desolations are finished. Then someone rises to political power that seems like a savior to Israel. This anit-Christ will confirm the covenant, break the covenant, and make desolate until the consummation is poured out on the desolate, or the final punishment is poured out on the anti-Christ. We know from Paul’s writings that this anti-Christ will not just sit in the temple, but sit in the Holy of Holies. Remember how much care the priests used to have to take in entering into the Holy of Holies, complete with a rope around their ankle and bells on their clothes. Yet how is it that this anit-Christ person can not only enter into the Holy of Holies, but put his throne there? He doesn’t seem to need the bells on his clothing to let the people on the outside know he has stopped moving, and he doesn’t seem to need a rope on his ankles so someone can pull his dead body out, even though we know he is a sinful person. It seems God will be using this man of perdition to bring about another useful means, the crying out of Jerusalem for Jesus, specifically crying, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

While the destruction of Babylon happened once with Cyrus, it has never been completely desolate, people have always lived there. Prophecies of Babylon have been and will be fulfilled. In Revelation, Babylon’s ultimate destruction comes and Isaiah tells us her hidden secretes, her nakedness and shame will be uncovered.

Isa 47:1-6 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.4 As for our redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.6 I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke 7And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.8 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments. KJV

The purpose of God’s people being given over to Babylon is for refining. The burden the Babylonian world system puts on God’s people is very heavy. Although God’s people are scattered all over the world, they are burdened, oppressed, and enslaved to this system. Look around the world, in every country there are burdened and enslaved people. Those are the people that Babylon has put a heavy yoke on. Yet Babylon doesn’t see herself as a harsh taskmaster or oppressor, but sees herself as a lady. In one day Babylon will be destroyed, the day the beast rises up and slaughters people so that the blood rises to the horses’ bridals and as long as 200 miles, Revelation 14:20. This is the wrath of God.

Isa 48:10-22 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.13 Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.14 All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The Lord hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord God, and his Spirit, hath sent me.17 Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:19 Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.20 Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob.21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.22 There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked. KJV

When the tribulation starts, many Jews will recognize Jesus is the Messiah, the I AM, the first and the last. By the end of the tribulation there will be a few Jews left, about one third will still be on earth when Jesus comes with His armies. Zechariah says two thirds will be killed, martyred. So the one third of the Jews on earth will rejoice when Babylon falls. But, after Jesus destroys the beast God’s people will increase again.

Jer 3:16-18 And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the Lord, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the Lord: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers. KJV

It is interesting to realize that the Ark of the Covenant will not be needed, instead the people will have a personal relationship with Jesus, the King. People will not walk after their own evil imaginations that come from their heart. They will not take on the attitudes of Babylon, which in part is the independence of their own will, but they will depend on Jesus. It will be a different age. A new dispensation. A New World Order. It hardly matters what man does to attempt to thwart the plans of God, God specifically set up times and seasons. The devil has control of the world and the spirits that go out to keep peace will have a change in their mission. They will stop keeping peace on the earth to allow a time on earth that will not be like any other. It will be a time of great distress to break the hardness of people’s hearts so that they will accept Jesus as Messiah and King. Israel’s redeemer has come, and will come again. In the meantime, there will continue to be a New World Order of Babylon, it will grow and strengthen and there will not be a one world government until the beast kills Babylon. Today, people live in either Babylon or the beast’s world system, regardless of religion, or race, or nation. Yet we can change our citizenship to the kingdom of God, and recognize that we are strangers and aliens until Jesus call us up or calls us home.

Conquest of Babylon; Atheism; Latter Days, Staying In and Coming Out of Arsareth

We can learn from ancient Babylon, and from Nimrod’s actions, so that we can better understand the destruction of the future Babylon. The parallel between ancient Babylon and the future Babylon deals with people turning away from God as a source of life. There were no atheists that survived the flood, therefore atheism started up again after the flood. There was a man in Ur named Nimrod who created a world system of rebellion against God by inspiring men to separate their lives from God. He twisted their belief system from dependence and fear of God to independence and reliance on Nimrod himself. Atheism. Instead of the people looking to God to sustain them, the people were perverted into looking to their government, who was Nimrod, to sustain them. Nimrod was going to protect them from God who sent the flood. This is the foundation of Babylon and its leaders.  Nimrod himself decided he was a mighty man, a gibbor.  He was a people oppressor, and controller. Our first look into history is to see what the first century people thought about Babylon. This is the lens through which John was writing the book of Revelation regarding the future tribulation period. Let’s read Josephus.

Josephus Book 1 Chapter 4.
CONCERNING THE TOWER OF BABYLON, AND THE CONFUSION OF TONGUES.
1. Now the sons of Noah were three, - Shem, Japhet, and Ham, born one hundred years before the Deluge. These first of all descended from the mountains into the plains, and fixed their habitation there; and persuaded others who were greatly afraid of the lower grounds on account of the flood, and so were very loath to come down from the higher places, to venture to follow their examples. Now the plain in which they first dwelt was called Shinar. God also commanded them to send colonies abroad, for the thorough peopling of the earth, that they might not raise seditions among themselves, but might cultivate a great part of the earth, and enjoy its fruits after a plentiful manner. But they were so ill instructed that they did not obey God; for which reason they fell into calamities, and were made sensible, by experience, of what sin they had been guilty: for when they flourished with a numerous youth, God admonished them again to send out colonies; but they, imagining the prosperity they enjoyed was not derived from the favor of God, but supposing that their own power was the proper cause of the plentiful condition they were in, did not obey him. Nay, they added to this their disobedience to the Divine will, the suspicion that they were therefore ordered to send out separate colonies, that, being divided asunder, they might the more easily be Oppressed.
2. Now it was Nimrod who excited them to such an affront and contempt of God. He was the grandson of Ham, the son of Noah, a bold man, and of great strength of hand. He persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it was through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny, seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence on his power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to be able to reach! and that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers !
3. Now the multitude were very ready to follow the determination of Nimrod, and to esteem it a piece of cowardice to submit to God; and they built a tower, neither sparing any pains, nor being in any degree negligent about the work: and, by reason of the multitude of hands employed in it, it grew very high, sooner than any one could expect; but the thickness of it was so great, and it was so strongly built, that thereby its great height seemed, upon the view, to be less than it really was. It was built of burnt brick, cemented together with mortar, made of bitumen, that it might not be liable to admit water. When God saw that they acted so madly, he did not resolve to destroy them utterly, since they were not grown wiser by the destruction of the former sinners; but he caused a tumult among them, by producing in them divers languages, and causing that, through the multitude of those languages, they should not be able to understand one another. The place wherein they built the tower is now called Babylon, because of the confusion of that language which they readily understood before; for the Hebrews mean by the word Babel, confusion. The Sibyl also makes mention of this tower, and of the confusion of the language, when she says thus: "When all men were of one language, some of them built a high tower, as if they would thereby ascend up to heaven, but the gods sent storms of wind and overthrew the tower, and gave every one his peculiar language; and for this reason it was that the city was called Babylon." But as to the plan of Shinar, in the country of Babylonia, Hestiaeus mentions it, when he says thus: "Such of the priests as were saved, took the sacred vessels of Jupiter Enyalius, and came to Shinar of Babylonia."

We understand that Babylon is a mystery. Babylon is spoken of as a woman, and a mega-city that rules and controls the kings of the earth. The woman rides the beast with something written on her forehead, “Mystery Babylon the Great, Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth”. Translated: “Secret Mega Confusion, Mother of Male and Female Prostitutes and Detestable Idolatry on the Globe”. The confusion was not just because God confused their language but also because Nimrod confused people regarding God. Nimrod made himself a god to the people, he was the provider and the one they needed to fear. Tyranny was the first form of government. Now that we understand the origins of this secret world system we can understand that Babylon merchandises, or prostitutes, people. The buying and selling of men’s souls. We can see the parallel to Lucifer who does the same. The idea that Babylon is a city is correct, but there is another element to explore. Babylon is a city system run by spiritual beings that have rebelled against God the Creator. They run the world in a manner that God disagrees with, and Lucifer is our window into this insight. Lucifer had sanctuaries and prospered off the backs of the beings he was in charge of. This is not God’s plan for humanity. Back to Babylon.

God gives Babylon a title and we have taken it to mean idolatrous religions. Religions are included in this abomination, but non-religion or atheism is also included. We picture Babylon as people worshiping idols, but non-religious people are included here as well because Babylon is about doing things for yourself, whatever you feel like doing. Therefore the blatant disregard for God which means “you are your own god”, so to speak, is prideful behavior that stems from Babylon. Understand that Babylon is truly the rejection of God and domination of a few people over others.

On earth Babylon rides the beast. What does this mean?  Babylon controls the beast, oppresses the beast, and governs the world’s economy until the beast rises up and kills Babylon. This system will continue in this manner until after the midpoint of the tribulation. The prophet Isaiah told us about Babylon’s end. The background just prior to chapter 13 is that in chapter 11, The Branch, Jesus, establishes the millennial reign. Jesus will bring back his people scattered around the world, Isaiah 11:11. Then chapter 12 is a song of praise. Chapter 13 starts another prophecy. Let’s read this in the Septuagint.

Septuagint, Isaiah Chapter 13
13:1 THE VISION WHICH ESAIAS SON OF AMOS SAW AGAINST BABYLON.2 Lift up a standard on the mountain of the plain, exalt the voice to them, beckon with the hand, open the gates, ye rulers.

This vision was against Babylon. In verse two, the context is referring to the Medes and Persians. The Medes today are also known as the Kurds, from Kurdistan and Luristan. The Kurds today are Muslims, but not necessarily Arabs.  This is who will be putting an end to Babylon.

13:3 I give command, and I bring them: giants are coming to fulfil my wrath, rejoicing at the same time and insulting.

The word giants is the word gibbor which is also translated mighty men. Just as Nimrod called himself. Some want to attribute this to the Nephilim, however, while Nephilim were large in size, they were called gibbor because they were dominators, or people who over took others and oppressed them. That does not mean that the word gibbor used here are people large in size. David’s men were called gibbor, meaning they were mighty warriors. Nimrod was probably not large in size but a smooth talking, people controller. God is saying he is sending gibbor, mighty warring conquerors, to break Babylon. Just as God used Cyrus for his purposes, God is using the Medes to achieve a purpose. This also tells us how close or how far we are, time wise, to that point in the tribulation. If you are alive during the tribulation, look for this.

13:4 A voice of many nations on the mountains, even like to that of many nations; a voice of kings and nations gathered together: the Lord of hosts has given command to a war-like nation, 5 to come from a land afar off, from the utmost foundation of heaven; the Lord and his warriors are coming to destroy all the world.

After Babylon is destroyed, the beast rallies the world to fight Jesus, which is the Day of the Lord, the day the Lord comes back to earth with his armies. He appoints set apart warriors to come with him. Sanctified warriors are part of the called, chosen, and faithful, who are of the redeemed that are caught up before the tribulation starts. As soon as Babylon falls, the Day of the Lord is close at hand.

13:6 Howl ye, for the day of the Lord is near, and destruction from God shall arrive. 7 Therefore every hand shall become powerless, and every soul of man shall be dismayed. 8 The elders shall be troubled, and pangs shall seize them, as of a woman in travail: and they shall mourn one to another, and shall be amazed, and shall change their countenance as a flame.

Really, the destruction will be so intense that people will be stunned. In verse 8 the word faces is used twice, it can be better understood as people will be stunned when looking at their friends’ faces, the faces will look like flames. Keep in mind, all the aspects of the tribulation come to bring people on earth to the point that they either accept or reject Jesus as Lord.

13:9 For behold! the day of the Lord is coming which cannot be escaped, a day of wrath and anger, to make the world desolate, and to destroy sinners out of it. 10 For the stars of heaven, and Orion, and all the host of heaven, shall not give their light; and it shall be dark at sunrise, and the moon shall not give her light.

This is the day that the sun will become dark which is a result of Revelation 18:21. Just before the Lord comes with his armies an angel throws a large millstone down to earth.

Joel 2:10-11 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:11 And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? KJV
Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come. KJV
Matt 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: KJV

Revelation 18:21 is a clue as to when the Day of the Lord is near. What we see in the next verses in Isaiah 13 is that God is punishing the prideful, God punished Lucifer because of pride and destroyed his planet, Rahab. Nimrod manipulated people into thinking they could live their lives without God, and Nimrod twisted people’s thinking to feel shame over relying on God. Where did Nimrod get that idea from?

13:11 And I will command evils for the whole world, and will visit their sins on the ungodly: and I will destroy the pride of transgressors, and will bring low the pride of the haughty. 12 And they that are left shall be more precious than gold tried in the fire; and a man shall be more precious than the stone that is in Suphir. 13 For the heaven shall be enraged, and the earth shall be shaken from her foundation, because of the fierce anger of the Lord of hosts, in the day in which his wrath shall come on. 14 And they that are left shall be as a fleeing fawn, and as a stray sheep, and there shall be none to gather them: so that a man shall turn back to his people, and a man shall flee to his own land. 15 For whosoever shall be taken shall be overcome; and they that are gathered together shall fall by the sword. 16 And they shall dash their children before their eyes; and they shall spoil their houses, and shall take their wives.

Look at the words “they that are left”. This tells us that the point of this tribulation and destruction of Babylon is to refine people. Whoever survives will be more precious than gold. Verse 15 says that the people on earth after Babylon’s destruction will be killed by the sword. Babies will be killed also. This happens in Jerusalem as well. Zechariah tells us the women will be raped in Jerusalem, but Isaiah says Babylon will suffer the same.

Zech 14:2For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. KJV

The word ravished appears in the Hebrew text of Isaiah 13:16, which means raped. This doesn’t sound like a great time on the earth. Babylon and Jerusalem will be under great distress. Who is doing the distressing? The Medes and Persians. Remember that the Lord calls his people out of Babylon in Revelation, this may be why they will suffer the same fate just before the Lord comes.

13:17 Behold, I will stir up against you the Medes, who do not regard silver, neither have they need of gold. 18 They shall break the bows of the young men; and they shall have no mercy on your children; nor shall their eyes spare thy children.

Isaiah tells us who will attack Babylon, the Medes. Other nations will rise up against Israel, but the Medes come against Babylon. The Medes cannot be bribed with money. This point tells us that some in Babylon think they may be able to escape this war if they bribe this people group.

13:19 And Babylon, which is called glorious by the king of the Chaldeans, shall be as when God overthrew Sodoma, and Gomorrha. 20 It shall never be inhabited, neither shall any enter into it for many generations: neither shall the Arabians pass through it; nor shall shepherds at all rest in it. 21 But wild beasts shall rest there; and the houses shall be filled with howling; and monsters shall rest there, and devils shall dance there, 22 and satyrs shall dwell there; and hedgehogs shall make their nests in their houses. It will come soon, and will not tarry.

Compare verses 21 and 22 with Revelation 18:2. Babylon, the earthly city, has always been inhabited. Therefore we know this is still future, when the only inhabitants will be wild animals. Also, no Arabians will pass through it for many generations, this tells us that in the millennial kingdom, when people go to Jerusalem to worship, they will not pass through Babylon. Babylon is the place where satan established his reign on the earth. If we remember what the devil told Jesus when Jesus was fasting in the desert, that he had possession of the kingdoms of the world. While tempting Jesus by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, we see that those things all existed in Babylon and were promoted by Nimrod.

Ezra had a dream about the latter days. There are several interesting aspects of this dream that coincide with Isaiah, Matthew 24, and Revelation.

2 Esd 13:1-13 And it came to pass after seven days, I dreamed a dream by night:2 And, lo, there arose a wind from the sea, that it moved all the waves thereof.3 And I beheld, and, lo, that man waxed strong with the thousands of heaven: and when he turned his countenance to look, all the things trembled that were seen under him.4 And whensoever the voice went out of his mouth, all they burned that heard his voice, like as the earth faileth when it feeleth the fire.5 And after this I beheld, and, lo, there was gathered together a multitude of men, out of number, from the four winds of the heaven, to subdue the man that came out of the sea6 But I beheld, and, lo, he had graved himself a great mountain, and flew up upon it.7 But I would have seen the region or place whereout the hill was graven, and I could not.8 And after this I beheld, and, lo, all they which were gathered together to subdue him were sore afraid, and yet durst fight.9 And, lo, as he saw the violence of the multitude that came, he neither lifted up his hand, nor held sword, nor any instrument of war:10 But only I saw that he sent out of his mouth as it had been a blast of fire, and out of his lips a flaming breath, and out of his tongue he cast out sparks and tempests.11 And they were all mixed together; the blast of fire, the flaming breath, and the great tempest; and fell with violence upon the multitude which was prepared to fight, and burned them up every one, so that upon a sudden of an innumerable multitude nothing was to be perceived, but only dust and smell of smoke: when I saw this I was afraid.12 Afterward saw I the same man come down from the mountain, and call unto him another peaceable Multitude.13 And there came much people unto him, whereof some were glad, some were sorry, and some of them were bound, and other some brought of them that were offered: then was I sick through great fear, and I awaked, and said,

Ezra asks for the interpretation of his dream. Take special note, Ezra speaks of those left behind in those days. Those who were not left behind on the earth, who died without God, were in heaviness. Going to hades leaves people in heaviness and sorrow. There are four categories of humans at this point in time; the redeemed who were caught up before the tribulation, the martyred that go to heaven, those who died not making Jesus their Lord and go to hades, and those who are left on earth through the tribulation who the angels gather. The mission of the redeemed is in heaven after the gathering, and they are witnessing the events of the tribulation and praying. An angel takes the prayers of the saints and hurls them to earth, Revelation 8. When the angels gather the elect, we see their emotions. These are the people who will be more precious than gold.

2 Esd 13:14 Thou hast shewed thy servant these wonders from the beginning, and hast counted me worthy that thou shouldest receive my prayer:15 Shew me now yet the interpretation of this dream.16 For as I conceive in mine understanding, woe unto them that shall be left in those days and much more woe unto them that are not left behind!17 For they that were not left were in heaviness.18 Now understand I the things that are laid up in the latter days, which shall happen unto them, and to those that are left behind.19 Therefore are they come into great perils and many necessities, like as these dreams declare.20 Yet is it easier for him that is in danger to come into these things, than to pass away as a cloud out of the world, and not to see the things that happen in the last days. And he answered unto me, and said,

The angel interprets the dream. There is a point here that we should not miss. Those on earth will be martyred for their belief in God, however others who are atheists will be killed as well. Atheists will have to bow to the beast or be killed. What happens during the tribulation if one dies for Jesus, that person goes to heaven. What happens during the tribulation when one dies for oneself? That person will await the resurrection of the dead for one thousand years, in hades.

2 Esd 13:21 The interpretation of the vision shall I shew thee, and I will open unto thee the thing that thou hast required.22 Whereas thou hast spoken of them that are left behind, this is the interpretation:23 He that shall endure the peril in that time hath kept himself: they that be fallen into danger are such as have works, and faith toward the Almighty.24 Know this therefore, that they which be left behind are more blessed than they that be dead.25 This is the meaning of the vision: Whereas thou sawest a man coming up from the midst of the sea:26 The same is he whom God the Highest hath kept a great season, which by his own self shall deliver his creature: and he shall order them that are left behind.27 And whereas thou sawest, that out of his mouth there came as a blast of wind, and fire, and storm;28 And that he held neither sword, nor any instrument of war, but that the rushing in of him destroyed the whole multitude that came to subdue him; this is the interpretation:29 Behold, the days come, when the most High will begin to deliver them that are upon the earth.30 And he shall come to the astonishment of them that dwell on the earth.31 And one shall undertake to fight against another, one city against another, one place against another, one people against another, and one realm against another.32 And the time shall be when these things shall come to pass, and the signs shall happen which I shewed thee before, and then shall my Son be declared, whom thou sawest as a man ascending.33 And when all the people hear his voice, every man shall in their own land leave the battle they have one against another.34 And an innumerable multitude shall be gathered together, as thou sawest them, willing to come, and to overcome him by fighting.35 But he shall stand upon the top of the mount Sion.36 And Sion shall come, and shall be shewed to all men, being prepared and builded, like as thou sawest the hill graven without hands.37 And this my Son shall rebuke the wicked inventions of those nations, which for their wicked life are fallen into the tempest;38 And shall lay before them their evil thoughts, and the torments wherewith they shall begin to be tormented, which are like unto a flame: and he shall destroy them without labour by the law which is like unto me.39 And whereas thou sawest that he gathered another peaceable multitude unto him;

There is a peaceable multitude that the Lord will gather after the tribulation at the start of the millennial reign. Isaiah 11:11 tells us a remnant of people come out of several places, including the islands of the sea. Let’s be clear, no one is lost, God knows exactly where they are. These people who migrated to other places whether by choice or enslavement are where they are because God wants them there. Remember the 144,000 are caught up mid-tribulation, which will be the first revealing as to where they have been. Let’s continue.

2 Esd 13:40 Those are the ten tribes, which were carried away prisoners out of their own land in the time of Osea the king, whom Salmanasar the king of Assyria led away captive, and he carried them over the waters, and so came they into another land.41 But they took this counsel among themselves, that they would leave the multitude of the heathen, and go forth into a further country, where never mankind dwelt,42 That they might there keep their statutes, which they never kept in their own land.43 And they entered into Euphrates by the narrow places of the river.44 For the most High then shewed signs for them, and held still the flood, till they were passed over.45 For through that country there was a great way to go, namely, of a year and a half: and the same region is called Arsareth.46 Then dwelt they there until the latter time; and now when they shall begin to come,

ARZARETH:
The name of the land beyond the great river, far away from the habitation of man, in which the Ten Tribes of Israel will dwell, observing the laws of Moses, until the time of the restoration, according to IV Esd. xiii. 45. Columbus identified America with this land. (See Kayserling's "Christopher Columbus," translated by Dr. C. Gross, p. 15.)
The name, it has been suggested by Schiller-Szinessy, is taken from Deut. xxix. 24-27, "Because they forsook the covenant of the Lord . . . and went and served other gods . . . the Lord rooted them out of their land . . . and cast them into another land [ereẓ aḦeret] as this day." This passage is made to refer (in Mishnah Sanh. x. 3) to the Ten Tribes (compare Tosef., Sanh. xiii. 12; Bab. ib. 110b; Yer. ib. x. 29c; Ab. R. N., ed. Schechter, A, xxxvi. 108, and Bacher, "Agada der Tannaiten," i. 143). But different opinions are expressed by Akiba and Eliezer—the traditions are rather confused as to the names—whether the Ten Tribes may be expected to return or not, since this point is not determined in the Scriptural verse. One of them takes the words "as this day" to signify that "as the day goeth, but doth not return, so shall they who are cast off not return"; the other explains the words: "as the day begins with the darkness of the night, but turns into day, so shall the darkness of their banishment be turned into bright daylight" (Mishnah Sanh. l.c.). The fourth Book of Esdras took the latter view, which was adopted also by R. Judah ha-Nasi in the Tosefta (l.c.), who refers to Isa. xxvii. 13.

Some consider Arsareth to be the Americas and the surrounding islands. There is a very strong case for the Native Americans/Original Americans being of the ten tribes. It may be that Christopher Columbus, who was Jewish, but because of the inquisition changed his religon, knew where he was going. Which is why he saw the Caribbean and the Americas as Arsareth. With this in mind we now have an answer to Markawasi, Peru, where Middle Eastern images in stone carvings were made by people who had seen and known those images. As African lions and Pharaoh’s never existed in South America, yet are carved in stone in Peru. Explorers “discovered” the Americas long before Columbus arrived, some of which were of the Knights Templar. And whether the ten tribes came over seas or land bridges, we have to read what Ezra says. They were taken captive into Assyria, but they eventually left on their own. They decided to go further out of the land of the heathens to Arsareth/Arzareth. They did not go as captives, they went because they chose to. There is a great amount of work that has been done on the subject. Suffice it to say, if Babylon is a cultural and monetary system associated with peoples that were conquerors, as well as religion and non-religion, we can see the depths of its influence which spread throughout the world.

Let’s remember Moses’ prophecy regarding what would take place if the Israelites did not observe all the words of the law.

Deut 28:64-68 And the Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the Lord shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:66 And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:67 In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.68 And the Lord shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you. KJV

Moses says God will bring them (the Israelites) out of captivity. In a way, God doesn’t need our help in this as God also tells us when that will be. If we send people to live in Israel now, we are only sending them into persecution. It would certainly be the plan of Lucifer to kill as many DNA Israelites at one time, in one “convenient” place, Jerusalem. Remember, the people did not move out over the earth after the flood like God wanted them to. Instead they depended on Nimrod’s government to keep them safe from God. Yet later, God says through Moses that he scattered them. They should not have stayed in Shinar. And maybe some of them did move out of Shinar to Arsareth at that time, but probably not too many. God wanted his people to connect to Him, not to other men, so asking them to move from Shinar would have allowed them to draw near to God on their own.

Deut 30:3-5 That then the Lord thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the Lord thy God hath scattered thee.4 If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the Lord thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee:5 And the Lord thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers. KJV

Remember, Jerusalem has to call on Jesus: “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” before they will see him again. Then Jesus will come with his armies. When Jesus comes and establishes his Kingdom on earth (the millennial reign) he will bring the people back from all over the world. Interestingly, Israel will suffer like Babylon, along with those who worship idols or profess atheism, then God will bring the people living in Arsareth back to Jerusalem.

2 Esd 13:47 The Highest shall stay the springs of the stream again, that they may go through: therefore sawest thou the multitude with peace.48 But those that be left behind of thy people are they that are found within my borders.49 Now when he destroyeth the multitude of the nations that are gathered together, he shall defend his people that remain. 50 And then shall he shew them great wonders.

There will be some that remain on the earth at the end of the tribulation and the angels will gather the elect from the four corners of the earth. However, if one has professed atheism there is no reward or life during the millennial kingdom. Babylon inspired false worship, idolatrous worship, self-worship, and non-worship. Babylon also established tyrannical governments and dependence on governments. This is why God hates Babylon and inspires the beast to destroy her. She led the whole world astray and made people prostitute themselves, or sell their souls to her system. At the time of the dispersion, people left the Middle East for other lands. However, “Babylon” found those people and oppressed them again so to speak. Babylon’s end will be utter destruction in the latter days. However, anyone who lives through the tribulation and believes on Jesus as Lord will be brought back to Israel. Those people will be refined as gold. I don’t think Ezra was speaking of their personalities being refined, but their faith in Jesus as Lord would be refined because God shows them special wonders. There are no lost tribes, God knows where they are. Even if Babylon’s influence has taken hold of their country, God calls his people out of Babylon. Today, people should stay in Arsareth (where ever that may be) until Jesus snatches them up or brings them out.

Signs; Matthew 24 Time Line; Beginning of Sorrows; The Day of the Lord

There are signs that point to places, give directions, and announce things. That is what a sign is meant to do. Jesus did signs, miracles, and wonders, and the Jews demanded more signs. Signs were given by Jesus before the Holy Spirit came to indwell humans; now that the Holy Spirit lives within us, we do signs, miracles, and wonders. Today, signs are for a witness to the gospel and kingdom of God. The redeemed are caught up before the tribulation, the seals will open which is the beginning of sorrows. The disciples asked Jesus four questions, two questions regarding what signs would precede the day he would come to earth and when the heavens and earth would pass away. The day that Jesus would come to earth after his ascension is the Day of the Lord. From the time Jesus left earth ten days before Pentecost, to the day Jesus comes back with his armies, he doesn’t come to earth where people will see him. And that seems to be Jesus’ biggest warning, not to believe those who say he is here or there. We are not to chase signs, but Jesus tells us what signs will happen before he comes with his armies.

Jesus tells the people of a sign regarding himself, he will be like Jonah. At first glance this might seem odd as Jesus tells them this is their only “sign”, when a short time later the disciples ask Jesus for signs and he gladly gives them the run down. The Pharisees and scribes were asking Jesus to prove himself. The disciples already believed he was the Messiah and they are asking for signs regarding his return. Let’s explore.

Matt 12:38-42 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, Teacher, we desire to see a sign or miracle from You [proving that You are what You claim to be]. 39 But He replied to them, An evil and adulterous generation (a generation morally unfaithful to God) seeks and demands a sign; but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 For even as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. [Jonah 1:17.] 41 The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, Someone more and greater than Jonah is here! [Jonah 3:5.] 42 The queen of the South will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, Someone more and greater than Solomon is here. [1 Kings 10:1; 2 Chron 9:1.] AMP

Jesus says an evil and adulterous generation seeks and demands signs. The word adulterous is someone who is a paramour, an illicit lover. What Jesus is saying is that these people treat God poorly by having other gods. In other words, they love multiple gods, and they are seeking signs for God to prove himself to them. God doesn’t have to prove himself to humans, it doesn’t matter what humans think, people can’t un-do God by their unbelief. This demand for signs is like a man who has a wife and a lover, and asks his wife to prove herself to him by doing something for him. The man then uses this manipulation to control these two women. God doesn’t have to prove himself to humans and he certainly doesn’t have to do anything nice for people. Humans can’t manipulate God. The height of arrogance is in the way these Pharisees and Scribes thought they could demand signs from God. Would they demand signs from the devil as well?

Jesus says the only sign you’ll get is the one like Jonah, when I die I’ll get up after three days and three nights. Not to take too much of a rabbit trail here but one simply cannot get three days and three nights out of Friday afternoon to Sunday morning. Jesus died on a Wednesday, and arose before Sunday morning. This sign was the conclusion of Jesus’ signs until his coming. Ezra points out that even with all the signs, the Israelites’ hearts were so hard that God was going to give their houses to people that believe without signs. Just by hearing about God these other people will repent and turn their hearts to God. That is exactly what the nations have done.

2 Esd 1:33-37 Thus saith the Almighty Lord, Your house is desolate, I will cast you out as the wind doth stubble.34 And your children shall not be fruitful; for they have despised my commandment, and done the thing that is an evil before me.35 Your houses will I give to a people that shall come; which not having heard of me yet shall believe me; to whom I have shewed no signs, yet they shall do that I have commanded them.36 They have seen no prophets, yet they shall call their sins to remembrance, and acknowledge them.37 I take to witness the grace of the people to come, whose little ones rejoice in gladness: and though they have not seen me with bodily eyes, yet in spirit they believe the thing that I say. KJV

A short time later, Jesus reiterated his point about the Pharisees and Sadducees being wicked and unfaithful to God.

Matt 16:1-4 NOW THE Pharisees and Sadducees came up to Jesus, and they asked Him to show them a sign (spectacular miracle) from heaven [attesting His divine authority]. 2 He replied to them, When it is evening you say, It will be fair weather, for the sky is red, 3 And in the morning, It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and has a gloomy and threatening look. You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. 4 A wicked and morally unfaithful generation craves a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. Then He left them and went away. [Jonah 3:4,5.] AMP

Jesus reminds them that they can interpret the weather, but they can’t interpret his being on earth. Yet many of the regular people believed Jesus was the Messiah.

John 7:31 And besides, many of the multitude believed in Him [adhered to Him, trusted in Him, relied on Him]. And they kept saying, When the Christ comes, will He do [can He be expected to do] more miracles and produce more proofs and signs than what this Man has done? AMP

The regular people could recognize all the miracles Jesus did, and understood that no one else had done those things. The religious leaders couldn’t see it, but the people also knew that no one else would be doing any greater type miracles. Jesus told us that those who believe in Him would be the ones who show signs to others.

Mark 16:17-20 And these attesting signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; 18 They will pick up serpents; and [even] if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well. 19 So then the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and He sat down at the right hand of God. [Ps 110:1.] 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord kept working with them and confirming the message by the attesting signs and miracles that closely accompanied [it]. Amen (so be it). AMP

Signs by the believers are to confirm the message of Jesus. Considering Jesus is the meaning of life, he is also the reason for the signs being done by his people. This is the time to inspire people to receive Jesus as Lord, therefore signs point the way to Jesus. Jesus told people the works he did they would do because he was going to the Father. John 14:12.

Signs are a pointer to the Messiah. Signs, miracles, and wonders are not the end result but simply something to give direction. The Jews demand signs from God, while the Greeks philosophize about God.

1 Cor 1:21-24 For when the world with all its earthly wisdom failed to perceive and recognize and know God by means of its own philosophy, God in His wisdom was pleased through the foolishness of preaching [salvation, procured by Christ and to be had through Him], to save those who believed (who clung to and trusted in and relied on Him). 22 For while Jews [demandingly] ask for signs and miracles and Greeks pursue philosophy and wisdom, 23 We preach Christ (the Messiah) crucified, [preaching which] to the Jews is a scandal and an offensive stumbling block [that springs a snare or trap], and to the Gentiles it is absurd and utterly unphilosophical nonsense. 24 But to those who are called, whether Jew or Greek (Gentile), Christ [is] the Power of God and the Wisdom of God. AMP

Both signs and philosophy only lead people so far. For the one who believes, the doors of understanding open wide and salvation can be received. Jesus Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. Today, if we are still seeking signs before we believe, we will not get them. Instead we have to believe first, then we will “get it”. Jesus warns people about this for the future. If anyone tells you Jesus is on earth and doing signs, miracles, and wonders, do not believe them. Jesus will not come to earth until the Day of the Lord, which is the day Jesus comes with his armies at the end of the tribulation. Technically, Jesus will gather the 144,000 during the mid-tribulation, but he will only be on Mt Zion. It does not say any of the people on earth will see him with the 144,000. Also, Jesus will not be staying on earth. At this time of gathering of the 144,000, Jesus will have been crowned as King in heaven while the devil will now be bound to earth for the last half of the tribulation. If you are among the redeemed before the tribulation, you will not be on earth. Therefore whoever is left on earth can potentially be deceived by someone claiming to be the Messiah.

Matt 24:23-24 If anyone says to you then, Behold, here is the Christ (the Messiah)! or, There He is! — do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders so as to deceive and lead astray, if possible, even the elect (God's chosen ones). AMP

The key to understanding the scriptures is in timing. Time is linear, it moves forward in one direction, but unless we make a timeline of sequential events, we could also be misled. Once Jesus died on the cross, he spent three days and three nights in the grave witnessing to the imprisoned spirits, then taking back the keys to hell and death he set the captivates free. He then came back to earth for forty days. Once he left, just prior to Pentecost, he will not be seen on earth until the end of the tribulation. He will meet the redeemed in the air on the day of redemption, he will not come to earth, and people on earth will see him in the air, not on earth. When the sixth seal is opened, everyone will see the wrath of the Lamb, but again Jesus will be in the air, not on the earth. After Jesus’ coronation he will come to Mt Zion for the 144,000, but he doesn’t stay on earth and it is not clear if earth people can see him at this time. After the wrath of God, Jesus comes back to earth with his armies. That is when Jesus will be back on earth. If one has actually lived through all of the tribulation up to this time, rest assured Jesus will not be performing miracles and signs for anyone. Jesus will be in fight mode and will be on earth to subdue the enemy, not to try and convince anyone about salvation. Therefore if one is chasing after signs from someone claiming to be the Messiah, they will not be from Jesus, as the next time Jesus spends any amount of time on earth will be the Day of the Lord. Jesus gave the disciples some insight about the beginning of sorrows. Let’s build our timeline.

Matt 24:8 But all these things are only the beginning of the birth pains.” ISV

Matt 24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. KJV

Matt 24:8 All this is but the beginning [the early pains] of the birth pangs [of the intolerable anguish]. AMP

There is an interesting parallel here. While on the one hand the things Jesus tells them in this context of Matthew 24 have a double application. The first thing to look at is the time period that occurred after Jesus died. Jesus was warning them of what would happened in 70 AD. Let’s explore the beginning of sorrows.

Matt 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. KJV

Jesus just told everyone how he would love to gather them but they refuse. Jesus says they would not see him again until they say “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”. He then says that everything will be brought down to rubble. That is the context. Firstly, Jerusalem will not see Jesus until they call for him. When will Jerusalem call for Jesus? Just before Jesus comes back with his armies at the end of the tribulation. Secondly, when will every stone from every building be thrown down? It happened in 70 AD, but it will also happen a second time during the tribulation. Now the disciples ask, when will these things happen?

Matt 24:3-7 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. KJV

The disciples ask four questions. When will Jerusalem call on Jesus? When will all the stones be thrown down? What will be the sign of Jesus’ coming (parousia)? What will be the sign of the end of the world? Jesus responds with ‘don’t let anyone deceive you’. How will people be deceived? Some people will say that they themselves are the Christ. Some will say that Jesus is in fact the Christ, but… Josephus records other people of the first century who claimed they were Christ. The second aspect is slightly more interesting. People will agree that Jesus is the Christ, but they will add to that, such as: Jesus is the Christ but you have to keep the law. Jesus is the Christ but you have to listen to me because I am the leader and I hear directly from him. Jesus is the Christ and I am his miracle worker on earth so you must do what I say. Jesus is the Christ therefore sing these songs to show how you love him. Jesus is the Christ and if you want to go to heaven you must tithe. People will merchandise others in the name of Jesus Christ as well. Don’t be deceived.

Next, Jesus says there will be wars and rumors of wars, but don’t be troubled. There have been wars since the time of man, and many times people threaten war. There is nothing unusual about war, one group is always interested in dominating another group, this is an unfortunate by-product of our fallen world, and men influenced by the devil. Jesus says this is not the end of the world. Then Jesus gives a list of things that will take place but they will not be an indication of the end of the world, just normal world problems. This is what Jesus calls the beginning of sorrows.

I want to point out our study from last week. As the seals start to open several things start to happen. There are wars, famines, pestilences, people being martyred, and earthquakes. We see that the same thing happened in 70 AD that will again happen at the start of the tribulation. Remember, it is only the opening of the seals, then as each is opened peace leaves the earth. The wrath of the lamb starts right after the seals open, when the trumpets sound. Next, Jesus talks to his followers.

Matt 24:8-22 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Compare 2 Ezra

2 Esd 16:17-19 Woe is me! woe is me! who will deliver me in those days?18 The beginning of sorrows and great mournings; the beginning of famine and great death; the beginning of wars, and the powers shall stand in fear; the beginning of evils! what shall I do when these evils shall come?19 Behold, famine and plague, tribulation and anguish, are sent as scourges for amendment. KJV

Great mourning’s, famine, death, wars, evils, plagues, tribulations and anguish are sent as scourges for amendment. The opening of the seals starts the time of people being tormented for the purpose of repenting. Again keep in mind the ones who believe Jesus is Lord, the redeemed, have already left the earth. Those who did not believe in Jesus before the harpazo are left on earth.

Matt 24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Jesus says to his disciples that they will be delivered up and afflicted and killed. He says they will be hated of all nations for Jesus’ name. Yes, the disciples were all martyred except for John, they were all hated by the Jews and Romans, but also by the people in every other nation they went to. Yet this all happens again when people will be killed under the altar. The temple will be rebuilt, but remember what the earth people would have already witnessed? Every eye will see Jesus in the air and the dead and living redeemed meeting him there. By the fifth seal being opened, many who now confess Jesus as Lord will start being killed for his name’s sake. While the two witnesses are on the earth, many are believing their witness. That is why the witnesses are hated and the people celebrate when they die after 42 months. Not everyone will believe the ruler that will rebuild the temple and enforce the covenant, so there will be many dying for their faith. Many people will again deceive others as false prophets, lawlessness will abound, and people’s hearts will become hardened. However, those who endure to the end of their lives will be saved. This is an interesting point. In 70 AD people were already saved by faith in Jesus, but they had to hold to their confession until their death. One cannot change his own confession of Jesus under pressure or threat of death and still be saved. In the tribulation the same holds true.

In 70 AD the gospel could not have been preached everywhere as people didn’t travel that far or have efficient communication systems; today we are still in the process of preaching the gospel of the kingdom. This is not only a human mission. Angels will help achieve this in the tribulation. Remember, three angels witness to the whole world. In Revelation 14 after the 144,000 leave earth, the angels go out, this is when the whole earth will hear the gospel of the kingdom. The angels preach in all the world for a witness to all nations, then the end comes. After the angels preach, the wrath of God begins. That is the last 42 months of the tribulation before the millennial kingdom begins.

Matt 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. KJV

There have been several abominations and desolations of Jerusalem since it was established by Melchisedek. However, Paul tells us in 2 Thessalonians that in the future the leader who is the man of sin will sit in the Holy of Holies and claim to be God. That is a sure sign that something is wrong and it will happen half way through the tribulation, which is when most people will recognize it. Daniel says that after the Messiah is cut off, the city and sanctuary will be destroyed. That happened in 70 AD. The time period from the temple’s destruction, will last until the end of the war of desolations is determined. We know that this time period is not over yet as the temple has not been rebuilt. When the determined time of desolations are over, the anti-Christ, the man of sin, will confirm a covenant for one week. He will break the covenant mid-week and put an end to sacrifices. He will then sit in the Holy of Holies, claiming to be god. That will be the last abomination.

In 70 AD the believers had been warned, and many had sold property and possessions, and moved out of Jerusalem before the Roman army invaded Jerusalem and destroyed the temple. This will be the warning again. Once the temple is built and daily sacrifices resume, get out of Jerusalem. While many got out in time in 70 AD, some did not. Yet here is a clue to the future. This will be great tribulation such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, nor ever shall be. Remember how many will be martyred during the tribulation. One third of the Jews were killed during WW2, but in the tribulation time period Zachariah tells us that two thirds of the Jews will be killed. For the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened. It would be wise, when those on the earth see the temple being built, for them to quickly confess Jesus as Lord, because even if one can physically get away, martyrdom is the only option for salvation at that point. Stay faithful until the end of your life and you will live.

Matt 24:23-28 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.25 Behold, I have told you before.26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.KJV

Again, at that time, during the time of the tribulation, people will want to tell everyone that Jesus is back on earth. That will not happen. Jesus does not come back to earth and hang around until he comes with His armies. Jesus will come to Mt Zion to gather the 144,000, but it does not say everyone on earth saw him gather his people. Jesus does not come back onto the earth to witness, or to do miracles, or to show signs. He already did that, and now those who believe without seeing are the ones who are entering the kingdom. The word coming in verse 27 is parousia, the same word used in the disciples’ question. No one will be able to miss the Day of the Lord as it will be like lightning, visible from east to west. Now there is another clue as to when this is. Where the corpses are, the eagles convene.

Revelation 17:16-17 tells us that the beast kills Babylon which is God’s intention. While the whole world is mourning Babylon’s fall Revelation 18:21 tells us an angel takes a huge stone and throws it into the sea. That is something cataclysmic. While heaven is rejoicing over Babylon’s destruction, the beast gathers his armies to war with Jesus. An angel calls out to all the birds to come and eat. There will be dead bodies from Babylon’s fall, and there will be dead bodies when Jesus comes with his armies. This timing is the end of the tribulation just before Jesus comes back. The next sentence tells us after the tribulation of those days, the days of Babylon’s fall, the sun and moon are not light and stars fall from heaven. A stone falling from heaven to the sea would cause this type of chaos on earth.

Matt 24:29-31 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. KJV

After the angel throws a huge stone to the sea, and the sun and moon are dark, then Jesus comes to earth with his armies. Just a side note here, the moon being dark could allude to what we call a dark moon or a new moon. Therefore, this could be an occurrence that happens during the phase of a dark moon/new moon. The angels will gather any believers that were left on earth. This is the third gathering at the end of the tribulation. This word for gathering is episunago (#1996), an “above collecting” similar to episunagoge (#1997), which is the “above congregation”. The episunagoge is the above gathering that is pre-tribulation. The episunago is the gathering from the earth at the end of the tribulation. Then all the martyred people during the tribulation will be judged and reign with Jesus for 1,000 years. Jesus then uses an example of understanding the times.

Matt 24:32-35 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. KJV

The idea Jesus is putting forth is that as a fig tree goes through the process of “coming alive” after winter; you know that summer is coming when the leaves come out. Watch for these things and you will have the answer to the disciples’ four questions. If you are watching, you will know when Jerusalem calls on Jesus, when the destruction of Jerusalem’s buildings occurs, when Jesus will come with his armies, and when the end of the world will be close. So, just like we recognize one season leading into another by the trees around us, pay attention because you know that Jesus will be near. This age will not pass away until these things happen. Jesus continues.

Matt 24:36-42 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. KJV

No man knows what day and hour? The day and hour the heaven and earth will pass away. While we might know the season of summer is approaching, we will not know the specific date of the passing of the heavens and earth, therefore we know that this age will not pass away before all these things happen first. Only the Father knows that. Here Jesus compares the days of Noah with the Day of the Lord. Again verses 37 and 39 use the word parousia. Jesus is continuing to answer their questions about the day he comes. Some have taken this example to extremes, declaring the Nephilim will be back on earth. I might point out they really never left, there are genetic traits of Nephilim on the earth today. That isn’t Jesus’ point. What he is saying is that everyone is going about life as they always have, eating, drinking, marrying, and having families. When Noah and his family went into the ark, the world was continuing on as usual. The beast will be gathering an army that will fight the Lamb, just like Nimrod, but there will still be regular people doing regular things just as in Nimrod’s day. Then the angels will come gather the elect from the four corners of the earth. Some will be gathered and some will be left. Notice, people are working during this time. There is still some order and semblance of normalcy on the earth during the time of the beast’s rule; people eating, working, marrying.

While Jesus pointed out the beginning of sorrows, and explained the four questions the disciples had, Paul talks about it as if we should know all these things. Sadly, in almost 2,000 years, we have confused the entire issue. Paul pointed out in 2 Thessalonians the episunagoge and the parousia. Today we glaze over words and think they are all the same thing, but the words are different and have different connotations. In 1 Thessalonians after explaining the harpazo, the catching up of the redeemed on the day of redemption, Paul points out we have no need of knowing precise dates, times, or seasons.

1 Thess 5:1-9 BUT AS to the suitable times and the precise seasons and dates, brethren, you have no necessity for anything being written to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the [return of the] Lord will come [as unexpectedly and suddenly] as a thief in the night. 3 When people are saying, All is well and secure, and, There is peace and safety, then in a moment unforeseen destruction (ruin and death) will come upon them as suddenly as labor pains come upon a woman with child; and they shall by no means escape, for there will be no escape. 4 But you are not in [given up to the power of] darkness, brethren, for that day to overtake you by surprise like a thief. 5 For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we do not belong either to the night or to darkness. 6 Accordingly then, let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us keep wide awake (alert, watchful, cautious, and on our guard) and let us be sober (calm, collected, and circumspect). 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But we belong to the day; therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate (corslet) of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God has not appointed us to [incur His] wrath [He did not select us to condemn us], but [that we might] obtain [His] salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) AMP

The key here is the timing. The Day of the Lord is unexpected, the Day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. The Day of the Lord will not overtake the redeemed, because the redeemed are returning with the Lord. The redeemed don’t need the details because the redeemed are not appointed to wrath. The Day of the Lord comes after the wrath of God on the earth. Now let’s think, who is this information important to? Anyone left on the earth during the tribulation. When will they be saying peace and safety? Once there is a world ruler that has eliminated Babylon and the beast tells everyone there is peace and safety. Remember those left on earth will believe the beast is a far superior spiritual being and the world rulers will be willing to fight for the beast.

In a time line fashion, we first have the temple destroyed in 70 AD. The temple will be rebuilt and sacrifices will start. After or during that time the beginning of sorrows begins, when the seals are opening. At the time the man of sin sits in the Holy of Holies, people will finally recognize they have been deceived. The beast will kill Babylon. People who finally recognize the signs will say “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”. The Day of the Lord will start by gathering the elect while defeating the beast. The birds will eat the corpses. No man knows the day the Heavens and Earth will end but this age/generation will not end until all Jesus said comes to pass.

While signs are important to understand the future tribulation, they are not important for the redeemed. However, thinking ahead, it may be our obligation to teach those who refuse to make Jesus their Lord about the signs of the end times so that they are aware of the coming Day of the Lord. Signs for this day and time are to point people to Jesus. Jesus’ last sign to the people of the first century was the sign of Jonah. No more proofs were given to that generation. When the seals start to open, the beginning of sorrows will be the sign that the tribulation is under way. Then watch for the signs Jesus gave the disciples to understand the times. No one will see Jesus again until Jerusalem cries out to him, therefore do not be fooled by false Christ’s, and false prophets.
