Divisions in the World and the Body of Christ, Multi-dimensional, but Dimensionally Blind

Now that we have looked at Gaza and Edom, we understand that there are divisions among nations. But there are also divisions among all people, all nations, and all religions, all over the world. It seems that as time goes by there are more and more divisions and less and less unity. There are reasons for divisions between people and reasons for national divisions; but also reasons for religious divisions. The entire Bible from Genesis 3:15 to Revelation 22:21 is focused on Jesus the Anointed Messiah, and that is the reason for continual divisions. The extra dimensionality of a God who loves humans is not the problem, but the trouble resides in our dimensional blindness. All of life is about either accepting or rejecting Jesus but still there is infighting within the body of Christ. We have to understand our own body, the body of Christ, because there are reasons for schisms. Some divisions are useful and some are shameful. Let’s understand the difference between the good and the bad.

Jesus was firm when he said he did not come to send peace but a sword. He wanted people to understand that his coming to earth would force people to divide into groups. The Jews were looking for a king to lead them and free them from their Roman oppressors, but their timing was off. Jesus will be King in the future, but before that there will be times of divisiveness. Jesus came to earth from outside of our understandable dimensions, this made supernatural miracles and signs hard to understand.

Matt 10:33-39 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword [3162].35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. KJV

NT:3162 machaira (makh'-ahee-rah); probably feminine of a presumed derivative of NT:3163; a knife, i.e. dirk; figuratively, war, judicial punishment: KJV - sword.

Jesus came to divide with a dagger, a sword. A dirk is a personal sword that Jesus uses to separate, not just nations, but families. That is a more minute separation than national boundaries. The big picture is that there were people in early history who believed on God the Creator and had a personal relationship with Him. Abraham was told his descendants would be in captivity for 400 years and that then they would come out of captivity and come back into the land of Canaan (which was appointed to Shem and his descendants). Moses led the descendants of Jacob out of Egypt, and then wrote commands and laws for the people to follow. A split came around the 30 AD timeframe when Jesus came with a sword. Two thousand years after Moses wrote the Torah, a different group of people believed that the original revelation changed when an angel spoke to a man around 600 AD. Now there are three groups that had stemmed from the descendants of Shem. The sword of Jesus is far different than the sword of man. Jesus did not tell people to divide, but that he initiated the division. Let’s look at a couple of variations on this word.

NT:3163 mache (makh'-ay); from NT:3164; a battle, i.e. (figuratively) controversy: KJV - fighting, strive, striving.

NT:3164 machomai (makh'-om-ahee); middle voice of an apparently primary verb; to war, i.e. (figuratively) to quarrel, dispute: KJV - fight, strive. (Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

James sums up the personal side of wars and fights. Selfishness causes people to fight for things. What we see in the world is people who want to take what is not theirs. Robberies, burglaries, and wars come about by lust. This is not something that should happen within the body of Christ, but we see in history a group of people that crusaded across the Middle East and persecuted people, and an inquisition, forcing conversions. I like the way the Message reads here.

James 4:1-2 Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels [3163] come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves. 2 You lust for what you don't have and are willing to kill to get it. You want what isn't yours and will risk violence [3164] to get your hands on it. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

Lust is a prime factor in the personal aspect of divisions, it is easy to see that this should not be something a disciple of Christ does. Paul gives further instruction for within the body of Christ.

2 Tim 2:24-26 God's servant must not be argumentative[3164] but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool, 25 working firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey. You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth, 26 enabling them to escape the Devil's trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

The servant of God should not be argumentative, quarrel, dispute, or war; otherwise the one whom God is working to bring to Himself might very well stay caught in the devil’s trap. Jesus divides families but a servant doesn’t do the dividing. That is a huge point. Today, we see so many of the called out (the church) fighting amongst themselves, but we are not to do that. There is a word translated divisions (#1370) that means seditions. The Bible tells us to avoid those who cause seditions. Not only are we to not divide people, but we are to avoid those who do. We are to be good listeners and teachers, and let the Holy Spirit work to bring people to God. There is a right division of the word of truth. This is the only usage of this word orthotomeo. Keep in mind that there is a right cutting, but those who don’t know the word cannot cut it correctly. There are so many denominations in Christianity, and so many different cuttings, this tell us that not everyone knows the word of truth.

NT:3718 orthotomeo (or-thot-om-eh'-o); from a compound of NT:3717 and the base of NT:5114, to make a straight cut, i.e. (figuratively) to dissect (expound) correctly (the divine message): KJV - rightly divide. (Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

2 Tim 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing [3718] the word of truth. KJV

This is how we show ourselves approved to God, not men. We do not divide the word of truth for personal approval by men. One who rightly divides the word of truth will probably be loved by some men and hated by others. What is the problem? On one level people don’t actually study the words in the Bible in the original language. Therefore some people claim to have studied a subject but are only reading the translation of a translation of the original. For example we read English which is a translation of Latin which is a translation of Greek. Things do get lost in translation. We are also at the mercy of the translators who had a set of opinions and ideas that they believed were correct, so instead of translating the exact text, they sometimes translated as they “thought it should read”. Also, some languages don’t have words for some things and rely on the context for description. Whereas the Greek has very specific words for things, which means they have many words that can be translated for one of our words. For example, in English, we have one word for power. Greek has several words that explain the kind of power. I guarantee many will stand ashamed before God for spouting what they claim to have studied because they didn’t actually study anything. Some of our most touchy subjects today cause such contention among people because some have studied and some have only read the translations. We show ourselves approved by being workmen who can make a straight cut. Reading and studying are two different things. One day we all may be ashamed standing before Jesus and being shown that what we thought was correct was in fact incorrect. How will we explain to Jesus the reasons we hurt or offended other people in His body was due to our own laziness? Jesus came to divide between those who are with Him or against Him, not between pink and blue, left and right, up and down, or opinion vs opinion.

Luke 12:51-53 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division [1267]: 52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided [1266], three against two, and two against three.53 The father shall be divided [1266] against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. KJV

NT:1267 diamerismos (dee-am-er-is-mos'); from NT:1266; disunion (of opinion and conduct): KJV - division.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

NT:1266 diamerizo (dee-am-er-id'-zo); from NT:1223 and NT:3307; to partition thoroughly (literally in distribution, figuratively in dissension): KJV - cloven, divide, part. (Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

We see the division Jesus brings between family members, but this is because of people making the decision to stand with or against Jesus. This disunity is the division. That does not mean people can’t commune together, love one another, and enjoy spending time with each other. The division will be clear at the time of the calling up of the called out. But again we don’t bring the division, Jesus does. We need to keep our swords in our sheaths and let Jesus be Lord. When Jesus calls from the clouds, those who have been put down for their faith in an extra dimensional God will be vindicated and every eye will see.

Luke 11:16-20 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven.17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided [1266] against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth.18 If Satan also be divided [1266]against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub.19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges.20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. KJV

At that time people were quite divided regarding Jesus. Was he or wasn’t he the Messiah? This caused a split among the people of that time. Jesus tries to explain that if he was working for the devil and healing people and leading them to God, the devil’s kingdom would be divided. It would be similar to a group within an army who instead of fighting and killing the enemy, help the enemy. That is the illogical thinking people had. They decided that the healings and miracles Jesus did had to be from the devil. Jesus said that that was stupid. Healings and miracles come about when there is a change in the dimensional parameters of our circumstances. In other words, a parameter changes and a once blind man can now see because something outside of our understanding changed the condition of his eyes. I’ve heard Christians say the same thing when someone gets healed, that their healing must have been from the devil. How ridiculous. The devil is not in the business of healing Christians.

Another word for divisions is schism which is a split or gap.

NT:4978 schisma (skhis'-mah); from NT:4977; a split or gap ("schism"), literally or figuratively: KJV - division, rent, schism. (Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

John 7:40-43 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?43 So there was a division [4978]among the people because of him. KJV

The people were split because they knew the prophecy. Some thought Jesus was a prophet, some thought he was the Anointed Messiah, and some didn’t think he was either prophetic or anointed because of where he started preaching. Today, people would probably be split in the same way, especially if Jesus preached in the slums rather than the palaces. The Pharisees were split as well.

John 9:16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division [4978] among them. KJV

The people that were expecting the Messiah, could not decide if that was who Jesus was. We can see how all these types of schisms caused so many factions. Especially because the religious leaders were not in agreement. Jesus told the Jews he had other sheep not of this fold that he had to bring in. He also said he had to lay down his life. As far as people truly understood, dying was the end of a life, how could he do something for humans once he died.

John 10:16-21 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.19 There was a division [4978] therefore again among the Jews for these sayings.20 And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him?21 Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind? KJV

Most Jews could not wrap their heads around Jesus being the Messiah. Some people still can’t understand it. When Jesus was in his earthly body everyone was forced into a position of being for or against Jesus as Messiah. This will happen again in the tribulation. Everyone will be forced to decide either for or against Jesus. Coming back to the body of Christ, Paul tells us to get along and be considerate of each other. Again the Message is a smooth translation here.

1 Cor 1:10-14 I have a serious concern to bring up with you, my friends, using the authority of Jesus, our Master. I'll put it as urgently as I can: You must get along with each other. You must learn to be considerate of one another, cultivating a life in common. 11 I bring this up because some from Chloe's family brought a most disturbing report to my attention — that you're fighting among yourselves! 12 I'll tell you exactly what I was told: You're all picking sides, going around saying, "I'm on Paul's side," or "I'm for Apollos," or "Peter is my man," or "I'm in the Messiah group." 13 I ask you, "Has the Messiah been chopped up in little pieces so we can each have a relic all our own? Was Paul crucified for you? Was a single one of you baptized in Paul's name?"  (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

People were siding with men and following after men, and not just following after Jesus. Paul is pointing out that Christ is not divided into pieces; Christ is not disunited. Jesus is not separated, he is wholly for us. We are not to pick sides with men, yet we still pick sides with men. We choose our religion based on the men who head up denominations and their own personal opinions. Instead we should be first and foremost wholly for Jesus. Second, we can work or associate with men, but not to the degree that we divide ourselves up under men. Romans 16:17, note and avoid those who divide the body. Paul is a little frustrated that there are divisions among the called out. Let’s read this in the Amplified.

1 Cor 11:18-19 For in the first place, when you assemble as a congregation, I hear that there are cliques (divisions [4978] and factions) among you; and I in part believe it, 19 For doubtless there have to be factions or parties among you in order that they who are genuine and of approved fitness may become evident and plainly recognized among you AMP

While we are not to make teams and cliques under men, there will be divisions for a purpose. There have to be factions or parties among you in order that the ones who are genuine can become evident and recognized. That sounds interesting. Splits here are not because of lust, like James told us, these divisions are a sifting and testing process so that we can bring out the truth. People who teach have to be vetted, scrutinized, so that we know if the truth has been taught, or the straight cutting of the truth has been made. This is not in regards to personal opinion or cultural ideals, but truly digging into the Bible. Again, not simply reading the translation of a translation, but truly working the logos of truth.

Now here is the summation of the splitting within the body of Christ. We all have different functions, and not everyone should be considered a hand or foot or big toe. We are all different and need to allow everyone their opportunity to work for Jesus in their calling. Again the Message reads smoothly here.

1 Cor 12:20 What we have is one body with many parts, each its proper size and in its proper place. No part is important on its own. 21 Can you imagine Eye telling Hand, "Get lost; I don't need you"? Or, Head telling Foot, "You're fired; your job has been phased out"? 22 As a matter of fact, in practice it works the other way — the "lower" the part, the more basic, and therefore necessary. You can live without an eye, for instance, but not without a stomach. 23 When it's a part of your own body you are concerned with, it makes no difference whether the part is visible or clothed, higher or lower. You give it dignity and honor just as it is, without comparisons. 24 If anything, you have more concern for the lower parts than the higher. If you had to choose, wouldn't you prefer good digestion to full-bodied hair?

I like the way this is stated. We need our bowels more than we need an eye. We will die without a proper functioning liver, so we care more for what is unseen. Yet in the congregations, we do the opposite. There should be no splits between functions in the congregation, no esteeming one function over another. Let’s go on with Paul’s points.

1 Cor 12:25 The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don't, 26 the parts we see and the parts we don't. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing. If one part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance.

This reminds us of the Letter of Aristeas, who wrote to explain that the law was not about the clean and unclean animals, but about clean and unclean behaviors. Paul is making that point here. We can’t cut out our pancreas or colon and function properly. The most extroverted people seem to think their function is more important in the body of Christ, whereas the more introverted people are usually condemned for not being part of the extroverted crowd. Let’s understand, both are needed and there should be no splits within the congregation on this matter. Paul finishes up his ideas.

1 Cor 12:27 You are Christ's body — that's who you are! You must never forget this. Only as you accept your part of that body does your "part" mean anything. 28 You're familiar with some of the parts that God has formed in his church, which is his "body": apostles prophets teachers miracle workers healers helpers organizers those who pray in tongues. 29 But it's obvious by now, isn't it, that Christ's church is a complete Body and not a gigantic, unidimensional Part? It's not all Apostle, not all Prophet, not all Miracle Worker, 30 not all Healer, not all Prayer in Tongues, not all Interpreter of Tongues. 31 And yet some of you keep competing for so-called "important" parts. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

“Unidimensional” means one-dimensional. Jesus’ body is not one dimension. An example of one dimension would be a line drawn from point A to point B. Christ’s body is multi-dimensional. There are as many as 26 possible dimensions, Jesus functioned in 11 dimensions, but we barely understand 4 dimensions. This is why we get so lopsided within our congregations. Think of the body of Christ as a cube in time, rather than a simple line. There are inner workings and outer workings, some seen, some unseen, yet all moving forward in time, not stagnant. Growing and evolving, not going backward, is the direction of the body of Christ. We have to look at it from above rather than from within to grasp this. To see this more clearly, picture a butterfly, it morphs and changes in stages of existence. But butterflies in warmer climates transform in differing time cycles than butterflies in colder climates. The called out body of Christ grows and evolves in a forward direction, sometimes the body is rather cube-ish and sometimes the body is rather sphere-ish, or cylindrical. It is not unidimensional.

At the time of Jesus’ baptism by John, the Book of Mark uses a variation of the word schism meaning to split or sever in regards to the heavens.

NT:4977 schizo (skhid'-zo); apparently a primary verb; to split or sever (literally or figuratively): KJV - break, divide, open, rend, make a rent.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Mark 1:8-11 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened [4977], and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. KJV

When the heavens were severed, the people heard the voice of God. This is a dimensional break, where outside of our understanding, something out of the ordinary happened. Understand it this way: what we know about our world/universe is limited to the boundaries of four dimensions, length, width, height, and time. If we were to travel into different dimensions, we would find that gravity is not a constant; its rules don’t apply in higher dimensions. Jesus walking on water is one example. Another example is Jesus walking through walls. The principals of matter, in this case what we believe to be solid, does not exist. Therefore when the heavens are severed, something enters our “snow globe” of existence that we cannot explain with exactness. That is the reason for Jesus coming to rescue the world. We are shut up into a tri-combination of length, depth, width, height, and/or breadth, and we do not understand that there are other dimensions that we cannot know by any combination of those three factors. Jesus had to break open our understanding because it has been hidden from us. This is what ultimately causes division. Not Jesus who walked as a man, but the Anointed One who exists beyond our range of understanding. Both within and without the body of Christ, our lack of understanding of His reality causes us to split, fight, sever, and divide. What we see is Jesus’ sword dividing humans, even among families, into those who believe on an other dimensional actuality, and those who don’t.

This becomes divided further because the three groups we looked at, the Jews, Christians, and Muslims, all believe in a God of extra dimensionality. The gap is between Jesus, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and end, the first and the last, and Jesus not being the Messiah. That again sums up the entire key to life. Jesus Is. We humans don’t bring the sword to divide the people up, Jesus does that.We should avoid those people who do divide. Our part is to be his disciples, by listening, keeping our cool, teaching, and being patient with others who don’t know Jesus and think differently. Then within the body of Christ we must allow everyone to function as they have been called by Him. We then do not side with men, or follow men, or make allegiances with men, but we test and try those who teach to see if what they have said is the straight cutting of the logos of truth. Recognizing that Jesus is multi-dimensional and His Body is not one dimensional but evolving and growing, will help us to stand before Jesus unashamed. The divisions are made by Jesus not us, which is the dividing line, not opinions, or beliefs, or suppositions. We then search for the right cutting of the logos, without cutting and dividing each other.

Gaza & Zion; Abraham, Shem, and the Philistines; Different Belief Systems Not Different Heredity

The world’s attention has been centered on Gaza lately, as Israel and Hamas have been fighting. Gaza seems to be a source of contention, and as we looked at Edom last week and the behaviors of the people, we have another aspect to these conflicts to look at regarding Gaza. Noah divided the land up among his three sons and their families in the days of Peleg. Each was to have a portion of land. Noah then bound them with an oath and a curse. Yet shortly after this, the sons of Ham moved into Shem’s portion. The inhabitants of the various regions in Israel seem to have turned over rulership several times. Gaza and Israel are both in that category. Yet it wasn’t all fighting, there was a time when people actually got along. In fact in the times of Abraham everyone lived peaceably. There is a promise of Zion being the Lord’s dwelling and it will be His home in the millennial kingdom. Why is that? What is so special about Zion? This is a spiritual battle that humans have been caught up in for a long time. To start let’s look at the original parsing of the land from Jubilees.

Jubilees 8:7. And she bare him a son in the fifth year thereof, and he called his name Eber: and he took unto himself a wife, and her name was ’Azûrâd the daughter of Nêbrôd, in the thirty-second jubilee, in the seventh week, in the third year thereof. 8. And in the sixth year thereof, she bare him a son, and he called his name Peleg; for in the days when he was born the children of Noah began to divide the earth amongst themselves: for this reason he called his name Peleg.

Notice in your Bible, Genesis 10:25, “And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.” This is the reason for Peleg’s name, not because there were continental shifts dividing the land as some have said. They separated their families according to allotted portions, divisions. Let’s continue.

Jubilees 8:9. And they divided (it) secretly amongst themselves, and told it to Noah. 10. And it came to pass in the beginning of the thirty-third jubilee that they divided the earth into three parts, for Shem and Ham and Japheth, according to the inheritance of each, in the first year in the first week, when one of us, who had been sent, was with them. 11. And he called his sons, and they drew nigh to him, they and their children, and he divided the earth into the lots, which his three sons were to take in possession, and they reached forth their hands, and took the writing out of the bosom of Noah, their father. 12. And there came forth on the writing as Shem's lot the middle of the earth which he should take as an inheritance for himself and for his sons for the generations of eternity, from the middle of the mountain range of Râfâ, from the mouth of the water from the river Tînâ.  and his portion goeth towards the west through the midst of this river, and it extendeth till it reacheth the water of the abysses, out of which this river goeth forth and poureth its waters into the sea Mê’at, and this river floweth into the great sea. And all that is towards the north is Japheth's, and all that is towards the south belongeth to Shem. 13. And it extendeth till it reacheth Kârâsô: this is in the bosom of the tongue which looketh towards the south. 14. And his portion extendeth along the great sea, and it extendeth in a straight line till it reacheth the west of the tongue which looketh towards the south; for this sea is named the tongue of the Egyptian Sea. 15. And it turneth from here towards the south towards the mouth of the great sea on the shore of (its) waters, and it extendeth to the west to ‘Afrâ and it extendeth till it reacheth the waters of the river Gihon, and to the south of the waters of Gihon, to the banks of this river. 16. And it extendeth towards the east, till it reacheth the Garden of Eden, to the south thereof, [to the south] and from the east of the whole land of Eden and of the whole cast, it turneth to the †east,† and proceedeth till it reacheth the east of the mountain named Râfâ, and it descendeth to the bank of the mouth of the river Tînâ. 17. This portion came forth by lot for Shem and his sons, that they should possess it for ever unto his generations for evermore.

First, we notice that they all had a good understanding of geography. They knew where rivers and oceans were, and how much land there was to the north and south. If you look at a world map, the entire Middle East was to be Shem’s portion, from the Mediterranean Sea east to India. Northern Europe, Asia, and the islands were Japeth’s portion, and Africa, southern Arabia, and points east were Ham’s portion. Noah adds some details about Shem’s portion.

Jubilees 8:18. And Noah rejoiced that this portion came forth for Shem and for his sons, and he remembered all that he had spoken with his mouth in prophecy; for he had said: Blessed be the Lord God of Shem, And may the Lord dwell in the dwelling of Shem." 19. And he knew that the Garden of Eden is the holy of holies, and the dwelling of the Lord, and Mount Sinai the centre of the desert, and Mount Zion--the centre of the navel of the earth: these three were created as holy places facing each other. 20. And he blessed the God of gods, who had put the word of the Lord into his mouth, and the Lord for evermore. 21. And he knew that a blessed portion and a blessing had come to Shem and his sons unto the generations for ever--the whole land of Eden and the whole land of the Red Sea, and the whole land of the east, and India, and on the Red Sea and the mountains thereof, and all the land of Bashan, and all the land of Lebanon and the islands of Kaftûr,  and all the mountains of Sanîr and ’Amânâ,  and the mountains of Asshur in the north, and all the land of Elam, Asshur, and Bâbêl, and Sûsân and Mâ‘ĕdâi and all the mountains of Ararat, and all the region beyond the sea, which is beyond the mountains of Asshur towards the north, a blessed and spacious land, and all that is in it is very good.

Noah recognized the portion Shem received as the holy places of God. Is it any wonder that the devil continually keeps that area in turmoil? The devil uses lineage to keep contentions going. This is ridiculous as all peoples in that region are mixed. Once the land was divided, it seems that it took no time at all for the oath to be broken.

Jubilees 9:14. And thus the sons of Noah divided unto their sons in the presence of Noah their father, and he bound them all by an oath, imprecating a curse on every one that sought to seize the portion which had not fallen (to him) by his lot. 15. And they all said, "So be it; so be it," for themselves and their sons for ever throughout their generations till the day of judgment, on which the Lord God shall judge them with a sword and with fire, for all the unclean wickedness of their errors, wherewith they have filled the earth with transgression and uncleanness and fornication and sin.

Just two generations or so after this, we see Ham’s descendants taking over parts of Shem’s portion. Nimrod took over Shem’s portion in the east around Chaldea, and Canaan took over Shem’s portion of Israel. Notice that the curse they took upon themselves is forever until the Day of Judgment. If one wonders why there are still contentions in the Middle East, here is the start of it all. No one can prosper if their descendants took land that wasn’t theirs, because their ancestors agreed to an oath that was bound by a curse. This allowed the devil free reign in their lives for wrong-doing. Prosperity is not due to real estate, it is due to God’s blessings for right living. If you are not prosperous, make an inquiry to the god you serve; because the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob prospers his people who live rightly. Shem lived among Hamites/Canaanites. They all got along even though it was Shem’s portion of land, inhabited by Ham’s descendants. This is why Abraham was promised this land for his descendants. Abraham knew the curse would fall on the Canaanites, and even though he married a Canaanite, he warned his seven sons to head south into the Arabian Peninsula. The Israel of today was the land Isaac was supposed to inherit. This is also why the sons of Jacob left Egypt to go to Canaan. It had been portioned to them by Noah. Joshua portioned the land of Israel out to the twelve tribes and they all went into battle to take back their land. Somehow we seem to think the twelve tribes were bullies, taking what was not theirs and killing the inhabitants. Abraham knew the land would be possessed by Jacob’s children, which is why his half Canaanite sons left. In fact, Abraham’s seven sons don’t take any land in Israel, they follow Abraham’s instructions.

Now we have to look at the belief systems of the people who live in that area today. The Muslims believe Ishmael was the son that was almost sacrificed and the one the land of Canaan was allotted to because Ishmael was the first son of Abraham. If we keep a timeline perspective, the Koran/Quran was revealed to Muhammad in the early 600’s A.D. This is far later in history than when Moses wrote the Torah, just after leaving Egypt at or around 1445 BC. So by simple overview, there are 632 years AD plus 1445 years BC, equals 2077 years between the two sacred writings. While oral history passed the stories of Muhammad around between tribes, we have to understand that we are looking at the original division of land by Noah, done in the days of Peleg. We are also looking at the time periods before Ishmael was born. I can see how the seven sons of Abraham probably felt slighted because Isaac got a better portion of Abraham’s inheritance while the seven received gifts. I can also understand why the people reconciled their hardships by deciding (two thousand years later) that the land of Israel was actually theirs. But again prosperity does not come because one lives on a certain piece of earth, prosperity comes from being blessed by God. If you are not blessed and you are impoverished, it is not because of your land it is because of your god. One cannot use the heredity argument here anymore than one can use it in Israel, all of the people have been mixed. That is the propaganda the devil uses to keep God hidden in Zion. You could be a descendant of Shem, but not Abraham, and Israel would be your rightful portion as well. Therefore the only condition left for living in Israel is belief systems, which are value systems, and religious systems. Those are the things one can control.

The land and climate of Israel is harsh, but by ingenuity, the people grow all kinds of fruits and vegetables, and can sustain themselves. Abraham moved quite often because of drought and famine in the land. Today, people simply can’t migrate whenever there is drought but have to work within the conditions of the climate variations. Let’s take a 30,000 foot view. If the Creator gives a gift to someone who abuses it, and also gives a gift to someone who cares for it, it is not the fact that the Creator gave someone more or less, or unfairly treated someone, it is the sole responsibility of the individuals’ to be good stewards of said gift. Another way to look at it is that the Creator gave the stewardship of the earth to mankind. Some men take care of it and some don’t. It is not the lack of earth that is the problem, it is the lack of respect for the Creator and His creation that is the problem. Therefore the argument that the Palestinians are sons of Ishmael and are entitled to the land of Israel simply shows their disrespect to the Creator by not taking care of the creation they have now. It is possible to take care of one’s surroundings and live in peace.

People cluster together by values and ideals. Once a group of people who believe alike live near each other they have a community. But the land of Israel is not as much for people as it is the place God makes himself known to the world. The inhabitants should be revealing God to the world. The devil has hidden that, and it will take the apocalypse to reveal God once and for all. The devil is a kleptomaniac who has stolen and hidden the truth. The apocalypse is literally revealing what has been stolen and hidden by a kleptomaniac. The area of Gaza was inhabited by Hamites, but Gaza was under the land apportioned to Shem’s descendants. Technically, that was alright as religious converts were welcome, but idolatry entered into Gaza. Gaza was taken by Joshua to be under Judah’s control.

Josh 10:40-42 So Joshua smote all the country of the hills, and of the south, and of the vale, and of the springs, and all their kings: he left none remaining, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the Lord God of Israel commanded.41 And Joshua smote them from Kadesh-barnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.42 And all these kings and their land did Joshua take at one time, because the Lord God of Israel fought for Israel. KJV

Why would God fight for Jacob’s sons? Because that was supposed to be their portion of land and they were supposed to be teaching the world about God. Gaza (also known as Azzah) is coastal land which was a great merchant city. But some other people moved into the area. The sons of Ham living here were known as the Philistines. The Philistines, Anakims and Canaanites were descendants of the Nephilim, when angels and humans produced offspring. Remember the spies saw the Canaanites as very tall people. All the people of that region were descended from the Nephilim and Ham combined, as Genesis 6 tells us they were on the earth before and after the flood.

Josh 11:22 There was none of the Anakims left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained. KJV

The giants were never fully eradicated as Goliath was from the same region. Judah pushed them into other regions but they eventually came back. The Philistines were also known as the Phoenicians along with a few other names. They were uncircumcised people who inhabited the land from Lebanon to Gaza along the coast as well as Crete. They moved inland at times mixing with the Canaanites and others. The people could have stayed in that land had they agreed to rulership by Judah but the people did not want to be ruled by Judah. That is a primary reason for the constant fighting during the period from Joshua through the captivity of Judah.

Judg 1:17-19 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.18 Also Judah took Gaza with the coast thereof, and Askelon with the coast thereof, and Ekron with the coast thereof.19 And the Lord was with Judah; and he drave out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron. KJV

Samson killed many Philistines from Gaza.

Judg 16:1 Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her. KJV

Judg 16:21-25 But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.22 Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.23 Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.24 And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.25 And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars. KJV

God was with Samson.

Judg 16:26-30 And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.27 Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.28 And Samson called unto the Lord, and said, O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.29 And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.30 And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life. KJV

I’m sure this story caused quite a kerfuffle in Gaza. A blind man killed many people all at once. The interesting thing is that Samson had to be extra strong because the Philistines were very tall and strong. So we see from the time of the Judges, that the Philistines had become well established in the region again. Hezekiah also fought in Gaza.

2 Kings 18:1-8 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.2 Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Abi, the daughter of Zachariah.3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father did.4 He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.5 He trusted in the Lord God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.6 For he clave to the Lord, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the Lord commanded Moses.7 And the Lord was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.8 He smote the Philistines, even unto Gaza, and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city. KJV

Hezekiah fought with the Assyrians and Philistines in Gaza, cleaning out the idolatry in the land. However Noah’s oath was for punishment on the Day of Judgment for those who take land that was not their portion. The coast is a very profitable place to live, so we can see why the people who live there fight for it. Jeremiah prophecies regarding Gaza.

Jer 47 God's Message to the prophet Jeremiah regarding the Philistines just before Pharaoh attacked Gaza. 2 This is what God says: "Look out! Water will rise in the north country, swelling like a river in flood. The torrent will flood the land, washing away city and citizen. Men and women will scream in terror, wails from every door and window, 3 As the thunder from the hooves of the horses will be heard, the clatter of chariots, the banging of wheels. Fathers, paralyzed by fear, won't even grab up their babies 4 Because it will be doomsday for Philistines, one and all, no hope of help for Tyre and Sidon. God will finish off the Philistines, what's left of those from the island of Crete. 5 Gaza will be shaved bald as an egg, Ashkelon struck dumb as a post. You're on your last legs. How long will you keep flailing? 6 "Oh, Sword of God, how long will you keep this up? Return to your scabbard .Haven't you had enough? Can't you call it quits? 7 "But how can it quit when I, God, command the action? I've ordered it to cut down Ashkelon and the seacoast." (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

Something we notice here is that no matter how many times there has been a battle in Gaza, there still seems to be more contentious people moving back into the area. There seems to be a stronghold of bad behaviors that proceed from Gaza. Gaza wasn’t always fighting with Israel, we will see shortly that the people in the region once got along with eachother.

Amos 1:6-8 God's Message: "Because of the three great sins of Gaza— make that four — I'm not putting up with her any longer. he deported whole towns and then sold the people to Edom. 7 For that, I'm burning down the walls of Gaza, burning up all her forts. 8 I'll banish the crime king from Ashdod, the vice boss from Ashkelon. I'll raise my fist against Ekron, and what's left of the Philistines will die." God's Decree. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. Selling people is slave trading. Gaza is one of five Philistine cities on the coast, and they dealt in human trade. This is something we see also with Babylon, or the Babylonian economic system. Treating people as commodities is one of the things Moses prophesied to the Israelites; that if they didn’t keep his words they would be sold and go out on ships. Israel didn’t sell themselves, other people sold Israelites and because the coastal cities were dominated by the Philistines, they were some of the slave traders of Israelites. Zephaniah has something interesting to say. First, he speaks of repentance, then of judgment. The call to repentance is for everyone, not just Judah, or Israel, or Gaza; it is for everyone. Today there are many people who live in the Gaza area that are believers on Jesus as the Messiah. This call to repentance holds a promise, during the destruction of the nations, the repentant people will be safe. They will be hidden on the Day of the Lord.

Zeph 2:1-7 So get yourselves together. Shape up! You're a nation without a clue about what it wants. 2 Do it before you're blown away like leaves in a windstorm, Before God's Judgment-anger sweeps down on you, Before God's Judgment Day wrath descends with full force. 3 Seek God, all you quietly disciplined people who live by God's justice. Seek God's right ways. Seek a quiet and disciplined life. Perhaps you'll be hidden on the Day of God's anger. All Earth-Made Gods Will Blow Away 4 Gaza is scheduled for demolition, Ashdod will be cleaned out by high noon, Ekron pulled out by the roots. 5 Doom to the seaside people, the seafaring people from Crete! The Word of God is bad news for you who settled Canaan, the Philistine country: "You're slated for destruction — no survivors!" 6 The lands of the seafarers will become pastureland, A country for shepherds and sheep.  7 What's left of the family of Judah will get it. Day after day they'll pasture by the sea, and go home in the evening to Ashkelon to sleep. Their very own God will look out for them. He'll make things as good as before. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

When will the sea ports become pasture lands? During the millennial reign of Christ. This isn’t going to happen until Jesus comes back to rule from Zion. Then Judah’s people will move into the land.

Zech 9:2-8 That includes Hamath at the border, and Tyre and Sidon, clever as they think they are. 3 Tyre has put together quite a kingdom for herself; she has stacked up silver like cordwood, piled gold high as haystacks. 4 But God will certainly bankrupt her; he will dump all that wealth into the ocean and burn up what's left in a big fire. 5 Ashkelon will see it and panic, Gaza will wring its hands, Ekron will face a dead end. Gaza's king will die. Ashkelon will be emptied out, 6 And a villain will take over in Ashdod. "I'll take proud Philistia down a peg: 7 I'll make him spit out his bloody booty and abandon his vile ways." What's left will be all God's — a core of survivors, a family brought together in Judah — But enemies like Ekron will go the way of the Jebusites, into the dustbin of history. 8 "I will set up camp in my home country and defend it against invaders. Nobody is going to hurt my people ever again. I'm keeping my eye on them. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

Into the dustbin of history the Philistines will go. Jesus will keep his eye on the land and no one will hurt it again. This is a millennial prophecy. The Philistines will go the way of the Jebusites. Who were the Jebusites? And what is the big deal about the Lord reigning from Zion? Why Zion? Why Jerusalem? What is so special about that city? The area of Jerusalem was a Jebusite city at the time of Joshua, however prior to that, during the time of Abraham, it was the city of Salem; hence the name Jeru-salem. The land was a place the Canaanites lived as well as those who are Ham’s descendants. The Canaanites dwelt from the northern coast of Lebanon to the south, Gaza, and inland. Jubilees mentions that Canaan was warned not to live there or he and his descendants would be wiped out forever. In later times the Philistines lived along the coast from Lebanon to the southern area of the coast of Gaza, and east to the Dead Sea, and Sodom, where Edom eventually took the area.

Gen 10:19 And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha. KJV

Let’s go further back into history. Shem lived in the land that had been given to him and his descendants. He moved from the eastern portion of his allotment to the western portion, to Salem. This was the place that Shem (Melchizedek) taught others about God. There is another significant point. The land he inherited by lot, bound by an oath and a curse, was a place Shem used to teach about God. Shem and Eber have quite a history there. Remember, Abraham grew up in Shem and Noah’s household until Abraham was 37 because he was being hidden from Nimrod.

Jasher 16:11 And Adonizedek king of Jerusalem, the same was Shem, went out with his men to meet Abram and his people, with bread and wine, and they remained together in the valley of Melech. 12 And Adonizedek blessed Abram, and Abram gave him a tenth from all that he had brought from the spoil of his enemies, for Adonizedek was a priest before God.

Adonizedek means “Lord of righteousness”. There was another man named Adoni-zedek later at the time of Joshua, but that was a different person. Melchizedek is the same person who is called Shem, priest of El Elyon, king of Salem, and also called Adonizedek. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had a long history with Melchizedek.

Jasher 21:4 And the child grew up and he was weaned, and Abraham made a great feast upon the day that Isaac was weaned.5 And Shem and Eber and all the great people of the land, and Abimelech king of the Philistines, and his servants, and Phicol, the captain of his host, came to eat and drink and rejoice at the feast which Abraham made upon the day of his son Isaac's being weaned.

It is interesting that early on the Philistines got along quite well with Abraham. Abimelech attended Isaac’s weaning celebration and even attends Sarah’s funeral.

Jasher 24:14 And Abraham buried Sarah with pomp as observed at the interment of kings, and she was buried in very fine and beautiful garments.15 And at her bier was Shem, his sons Eber and Abimelech, together with Anar, Ashcol and Mamre, and all the grandees of the land followed her bier.

Isaac learned about God from Shem and Eber, and lived in Salem (Jerusalem) for three years.

Jasher 24:17 And when the days of their mourning passed by Abraham sent away his son Isaac, and he went to the house of Shem and Eber, to learn the ways of the Lord and his instructions, and Abraham remained there three years.

It is interesting that Shem and Eber had lived among the Canaanites without any wars or contentions. While it was Shem’s portion of land, the Canaanites probably learned about God from Shem and Eber too. This is an interesting point because Abraham married a Canaanite woman and their sons knew the ways of the Lord, as Jethro the Midianite Priest was a descendant of Abraham and became Moses’ father in law. Therefore, we see again that it is not simply heredity or DNA that God is concerned with, but with behavior and actions. Even when Abimelech died, Abraham‘s household comforted Abimelech’s household. These people had a close relationship, even if Ham’s descendants were living in a land not given to their family.

Jasher 24:19 And at the revolution of the year Abimelech king of the Philistines died in that year; he was one hundred and ninety-three years old at his death; and Abraham went with his people to the land of the Philistines, and they comforted the whole household and all his servants, and he then turned and went home.

It is evident, that long before the law, people were able to be redeemed and live in peace together. Next, Jacob goes to Shem and Eber’s house and is there for thirty two years.

Jasher 28:18 At that time Isaac sent his younger son Jacob to the house of Shem and Eber, and he learned the instructions of the Lord, and Jacob remained in the house of Shem and Eber for thirty-two years, and Esau his brother did not go, for he was not willing to go, and he remained in his father's house in the land of Canaan.

Here is the part about Jacob’s family that we have to understand. No one was saved by the law and no one was in captivity. Romans 5:20 tells us, that by the law, sin abounds, but with sin came grace. People were saved by their relationship to God, not by following rules and laws. Laws made people sin. Today we live under an administration of grace, a time when we don’t follow Mosaic Law, we follow Jesus. The difference between Jacob and Esau was that Esau didn’t have a deep desire for learning about God, Jacob did.

Jasher 28:24 And it came to pass in those days, in the hundred and tenth year of the life of Isaac, that is in the fiftieth year of the life of Jacob, in that year died Shem the son of Noah; Shem was six hundred years old at his death.

Shem lived from before the flood up to the time Jacob was fifty. That is a long history, and God is faithful to those who are faithful to him. We don’t know what Noah understood about the three holy places, Mount Zion, Eden, and Mount Sinai, but we do know that those areas are allotted to Shem. Here is a clue. Being surrounded by Ham on the south and Japeth on the north meant that the knowledge of God would be central and move out from there. God is established in Zion and Zion is Jerusalem. As soon as that information was known, the devil did everything he could to trample those areas, even making them areas of idolatry. Yet God is faithful to those who were faithful to Him. We see that in David’s life, who was from the tribe of Judah, and took Jerusalem back from the Jebusites.

2 Sam 5:4-10 David was thirty years old when he became king, and ruled for forty years. 5 In Hebron he ruled Judah for seven and a half years. In Jerusalem he ruled all Israel and Judah for thirty-three years.  6 David and his men immediately set out for Jerusalem to take on the Jebusites, who lived in that country. But they said, "You might as well go home! Even the blind and the lame could keep you out. You can't get in here!" They had convinced themselves that David couldn't break through. 7 But David went right ahead and captured the fortress of Zion, known ever since as the City of David. 8 That day David said, "To get the best of these Jebusites, one must target the water system, not to mention this so-called lame and blind bunch that David hates." (In fact, he was so sick and tired of it, people coined the expression, "No lame and blind allowed in the palace.")  9 David made the fortress city his home and named it "City of David." He developed the city from the outside terraces inward. 10 David proceeded with a longer stride, a larger embrace since the God-of-the-Angel-Armies was with him.  (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. First, David was in Hebron, but then moved to Jerusalem. Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem. Then Solomon brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, Zion. This is fitting as it was the place Shem and Eber taught people about God.

1 Kings 8:1 Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto King Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Zion. KJV

We know that the glory of the Lord came upon the Temple, fire fell and consumed the offerings, and the glory of the Lord remained in the Temple for over three hundred years until the time of Ezekiel. There seems to be places of spiritual significance on the earth, and the fire falling at the dedication of the Temple would be one of those significant places. Today, we see contention between Jews and Muslims because both religious systems consider the Temple Mount a Holy Place, but for different reasons. Obviously, there has been an evolution and progression of people’s beliefs. First, we see those people getting along with Shem and Abraham’s people. Then we see the people of Gaza not wanting to be under Judah’s rulership, probably because they already had their own gods to worship and it was a prosperous region for trade. We then see regular battles between Gaza and the Israelites that lead up to this day. Today however, the reason given for this contention is the belief that Ishmael inherited this area rather than Isaac. This was historically not a reason for fighting but became one in modern times. The evolution of the explanations has nothing to do with the truth. The region of Zion is God’s holy place, not for God’s benefit, but for man’s benefit, so that man can learn about God. The devil who is the god of this world wants people to worship him rather than the Creator.

When Hezekiah prayed regarding Sennacherib, Isaiah prophesied. Part of the prophecy is for the times when it was written, but also for the future remnant.

2 Kings 19:31 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this. KJV

The Psalms are songs, and many are in regards to the millennial kingdom.

Ps 2:6-7 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. KJV

Ps 14:7 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the Lord bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. KJV

Asaph writes:

Ps 50:2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined. KJV

In captivity, one song written remembers their homeland.

Ps 137:1-4 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion.2 We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof.3 For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.4 How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land? KJV

Zion will be called the city of righteousness; remember Shem’s name, Lord of righteousness. Jerusalem will have to be cleansed and purged.

Isa 1:24-28 Therefore saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:25 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.28 And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the Lord shall be consumed. KJV

Isaiah’s words are interesting, ‘Zion will be redeemed with judgment and her converts with righteousness’. Again, it is possible to be redeemed and made righteous without a familial lineage. People can be converts now, they don’t have to wait. After the final battle when Jesus comes back with His armies to defeat the beast, the apocalypse, Zion will be the place of the Lord’s house.

Isa 2:1-4 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. KJV

During the millennial kingdom there will not be a need for swords; the metal will be used for farming. Nations will not learn war anymore. The Art of War by Sun Tzu will become a lost art. There will not be a need to send thousands of missiles into Israel to attempt to thwart the plans of God. God is God, and the devil is not. The people that fight and contend to take this piece of land cannot stop the plans of God. Those people are simply pawns of the devil, much like the women and children Hamas uses as shields. Here is the invitation. There are many people in the valley of decision, but the Day of the Lord is near.

Joel 3:14-21 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.16 The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.17 So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.18 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the Lord, and shall water the valley of Shittim.19 Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.20 But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.21 For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the Lord dwelleth in Zion. KJV

The Lord dwells in Zion. So what if the Israelis are not a perfect example to the world; that was Jesus, he was the perfect example. Today, Gaza is a place of contentions and hatred toward the home of the Lord. What matters is whether people make Jesus Lord, which is how redemption works today. Shem, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob believed on the Lord and knew Him. They had a personal relationship with Him, the Aleph Tav, the beginning and the end, the first and the last, the Alpha and Omega. It is not hard to see that a book written in 600 AD does not hold as much weight as many books written from 2000 BC to 90 AD. It is easy to imagine an enemy of the Creator who uses people for his own purposes. The proof is in the blessing or lack of blessing. While the devil prospers his people, what we need to ask is, who is blessed? It is a heart issue. The end of the story has already been written and we know that the Day of the Lord is coming. The time to decide is now. The time to make an allegiance with the Aleph Tav is now. Jesus will rule from Zion.

Edom’s Desolation, What Fuels the Middle East’s Unrest, Jacob and Esau

God is not mad at people’s familial lineage, but he does indeed take offence to people’s behavior. As we saw with Babylon, the attitudes of self-sufficiency, pride, and atheism were exported all over the world. We noted that Babylon’s end is total destruction. Edom has an attitude problem and her end will be total destruction. Both of these places encouraged people to separate their hearts from God. We typically associate Edom with Esau, and correctly so because this was the place Esau inhabited. But it is not the descendants of Esau that God takes offence to, but the behavior of the people who live in that land that God takes offence to. Jacob and Esau represent the behaviors we either should or should not have. We know that demons gather in territories and influence people to do things according to the devil’s will. And we also know that Israelites mixed with all other peoples in the world. Therefore, today it is not the descendants of Esau, but the people who live where Esau lived that have pride and violence toward the Israel of today. As we have studied, demons are the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim and they roam the earth looking for warm, clean houses (people), to inhabit.  But because we have turned the Bible into an “us and them”, book we think it is lineage that God is speaking against, but in reality it is behaviors and attitudes. Neither Jacob nor Esau were perfect men, yet Jacob pursued God and Esau pursued his own desires. What Babylon exported, following one’s own lusts or desires for one’s own benefit apart from God is what Esau did. He became violent and the people of the land who live there even to this day learn this attitude of Babylon’s narcissism, but Edom added emotional rage and violence to that. Let’s refresh our history of the twins, Jacob and Esau.

Isaac was offered as a sacrifice at about 37 years of age, at which time Sara died. After Sara died Isaac went to school with Shem (who was Melchizedek) and Eber in Jerusalem for about three years. At some point near the end of the three years Eleazer, Abraham’s servant, went to find Isaac a wife from Sara’s relatives. Rebecca was about 10 years old at that time, Isaac was about 40. We find these details from the Book of Jasher. Abraham had six sons with Keturah after Sarah died. While Abraham is our model for relationship with God, Abraham’s sons and grandsons seem to be at war with each other until this very day. Let’s look at the people, Jacob and Esau, and note their personalities, behaviors, and their actions. This will give us an idea of the actions we are to emulate or put off. While Genesis doesn’t give us a complete picture, Jasher adds some details regarding Jacob and Esau.

Jasher 28:18 At that time Isaac sent his younger son Jacob to the house of Shem and Eber, and he learned the instructions of the Lord, and Jacob remained in the house of Shem and Eber for thirty-two years, and Esau his brother did not go, for he was not willing to go, and he remained in his father's house in the land of Canaan.19 And Esau was continually hunting in the fields to bring home what he could get, so did Esau all the days.20 And Esau was a designing and deceitful man, one who hunted after the hearts of men and inveigled them, and Esau was a valiant man in the field, and in the course of time went as usual to hunt; and he came as far as the field of Seir, the same is Edom. http://www.ccel.org/a/anonymous/jasher/28.htm

Esau did not want to go to the school that Shem and Eber had in Jerusalem. Abraham learned firsthand from Shem and Noah and Isaac went to school as well, but Esau was not willing to go there. Esau was designing, deceitful, and he hunted the hearts of men to con and entice them. What does that mean? Designing would indicate he manipulated situations for his advantage. Deceitful means he did not tell the truth but used lies for his advantage. Hunting the hearts of men indicates he sought out and played on people’s emotions. He was a great hunter, but seemed to also be someone who pressured and tricked people into doing what he wanted. We can imagine there must have been quite a sibling rivalry between the sons of Isaac, both Jacob and Esau seemed to want to outdo each other. Jacob and Esau were about 15 years old when Abraham died. After some time Jacob went to stay with Shem and Eber and remained there for 32 years until Shem died. Meanwhile Esau took a Canaanite wife at about 40 years old. The boys were separated for 32 years. Jacob must have enjoyed Shem and Eber’s school and might have been content to stay there forever. At the time Jacob went to Shem and Eber’s, he had already obtained Esau’s birthright. We seem to misunderstand this event but Jasher fills in the details Genesis leaves out. While the boys were in their late teens/early twenties Esau killed Nimrod.

Jasher 27:9 And all the mighty men of Nimrod, who had left him to go to the wilderness, heard the cry at a distance, and they knew the voices of those two men, and they ran to know the cause of it, when they found their king and the two men that were with him lying dead in the wilderness.10 And when Esau saw the mighty men of Nimrod coming at a distance, he fled, and thereby escaped; and Esau took the valuable garments of Nimrod, which Nimrod's father had bequeathed to Nimrod, and with which Nimrod prevailed over the whole land, and he ran and concealed them in his house.11 And Esau took those garments and ran into the city on account of Nimrod's men, and he came unto his father's house wearied and exhausted from fight, and he was ready to die through grief when he approached his brother Jacob and sat before him.12 And he said unto his brother Jacob, Behold I shall die this day, and wherefore then do I want the birthright? And Jacob acted wisely with Esau in this matter, and Esau sold his birthright to Jacob, for it was so brought about by the Lord.13 And Esau's portion in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham had bought from the children of Heth for the possession of a burial ground, Esau also sold to Jacob, and Jacob bought all this from his brother Esau for value given.14 And Jacob wrote the whole of this in a book, and he testified the same with witnesses, and he sealed it, and the book remained in the hands of Jacob.

Esau offers his birthright to Jacob and his place of burial that Abraham bought. In return Jacob feeds him and hides him. The garments of Nimrod were Adam’s garments that Noah had, which Ham stole from Noah and gave to Cush, Nimrod’s father. Now Esau had Adam’s garments that the angel made for him when Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden. There was a belief that the garments made Nimrod a mighty hunter, which is why Esau took them. This information added to the Genesis account now makes more sense. Esau was as much of a schemer as Jacob but physically stronger and a better hunter. Nimrod was jealous of Esau but Esau turned the tables on Nimrod and killed him, as Nimrod’s dream had foretold, which was that a descendant of Abraham would kill Nimrod. Nimrod’s hunting party was in the area, so Esau had to run and hide. Being tired from fighting and killing the three men, and then running into the city to hide with Nimrod’s garments, Esau was exhausted. Jacob schemed to take his birthright by offering food. Esau feared Nimrod’s men would find him and kill him. He might have thought he would have to keep running and needed food. Jacob lived in the city, not in the country.

Gen 25:29-34 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint:30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom [red] 31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. KJV

If Esau thought he would be killed, it wouldn’t have mattered to him if he had the birthright of the first born. And he probably thought his dead body would be taken to Babylon by Nimrod’s men. Selling his birthright in the face of death didn’t seem like a big deal, especially since he was probably in his 20’s and had a young person’s shortsightedness. However, Esau never would have sold his birthright for lentils if he was simply hungry and all was bright and happy in Esau’s world. Obviously something intense was going on with Esau that caused him to believe he would not fulfill his birthright. Now when Isaac wants to pronounce a blessing on Esau, Jacob tricks Isaac. When Esau finds out, he is angry.

Jasher 29:9 And Isaac said unto Esau, And who was he that has taken venison and brought it me before thou camest and whom I did bless? And Esau knew that his brother Jacob had done this, and the anger of Esau was kindled against his brother Jacob that he had acted thus toward him.10 And Esau said, Is he not rightly called Jacob? for he has supplanted me twice, he took away my birthright and now he has taken away my blessing; and Esau wept greatly; and when Isaac heard the voice of his son Esau weeping, Isaac said unto Esau, What can I do, my son, thy brother came with subtlety and took away thy blessing; and Esau hated his brother Jacob on account of the blessing that his father had given him, and his anger was greatly roused against him.11And Jacob was very much afraid of his brother Esau, and he rose up and fled to the house of Eber the son of Shem, and he concealed himself there on account of his brother, and Jacob was sixty-three years old when he went forth from the land of Canaan from Hebron, and Jacob was concealed in Eber's house fourteen years on account of his brother Esau, and he there continued to learn the ways of the Lord and his commandments.12And when Esau saw that Jacob had fled and escaped from him, and that Jacob had cunningly obtained the blessing, then Esau grieved exceedingly, and he was also vexed at his father and mother; and he also rose up and took his wife and went away from his father and mother to the land of Seir, and he dwelt there; and Esau saw there a woman from amongst the daughters of Heth whose name was Bosmath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and he took her for a wife in addition to his first wife, and Esau called her name Adah, saying the blessing had in that time passed from him.13And Esau dwelt in the land of Seir six months without seeing his father and mother, and afterward Esau took his wives and rose up and returned to the land of Canaan, and Esau placed his two wives in his father's house in Hebron.14And the wives of Esau vexed and provoked Isaac and Rebecca with their works, for they walked not in the ways of the Lord, but served their father's gods of wood and stone as their father had taught them, and they were more wicked than their father.

What seems interesting here is that Nimrod was a great hunter, and independent from God just as Esau was. Jacob in contrast was not known as a hunter, nor did he seek to be independent from God. In fact, while Esau lived in mountains, caves, and in the wilderness, Jacob was living in the city. We can see the differences between both boys, they were fraternal twins and were as different as can be. About seven months into Rebecca’s pregnancy with these twin boys, Rebecca became tired because the babies were struggling so much in utero and no one had ever experienced this before. Rebecca went to Shem, Eber, and Abraham to ask them to seek God on her behalf. They came back with an explanation.

Jasher 26:12 And they all inquired of the Lord concerning this matter, and they brought her word from the Lord and told her, Two children are in thy womb, and two nations shall rise from them; and one nation shall be stronger than the other, and the greater shall serve the younger.13 And when her days to be delivered were completed, she knelt down, and behold there were twins in her womb, as the Lord had spoken to her.14 And the first came out red all over like a hairy garment, and all the people of the land called his name Esau, saying, That this one was made complete from the womb.15And after that came his brother, and his hand took hold of Esau's heel, therefore they called his name Jacob.

I’m sure the boys heard this prophecy growing up, ‘Esau is older and stronger but he’ll serve Jacob’. That is why they called Jacob supplanter. To supplant is to overtake by force or deceitfulness. Esau and Jacob knew that Esau would serve Jacob. So Esau became skilled at manipulation, intimidation, and domination; the three aspects of witchcraft. When Jacob tricked Esau out of Isaac’s blessing, they were both 63 years old. They were not children or young men. Here are the blessings they each received.

Gen 27:27-29 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed:28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee. KJV

Gen 27:39-40 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck. KJV

Both blessings are interesting. But look at Esau’s blessing, he would live by the sword. Genesis never tells us why he would live by the sword but that implies physical fighting, and remember he killed Nimrod with a sword, Jasher 27:7. Esau’s descendants would serve Jacob’s but there would be a time that they would break away from them. When Jacob wrestled with the angel it seems that that was also an insight for us as someone who will have to struggle. In more recent history we see this struggle. When the British took Palestine from the Ottomans the region started fighting again. The Jews had been scattered and there was much discussion about whether they could live in that land because it was so harsh. Once people moved back into the region, they did have a hard time making it. Funds for the founding of the nation of Israel were donated by the Rockefellers and the Rothschilds, and as we know, the region was finally established as a nation in 1948. However it has always been a struggle for Israelites to live there.

Jacob and Esau were in their twenties when Esau sold his birthright and in their sixties when Isaac blessed Jacob. Today, we know that those regions, Israel, and Edom, do not have pure bloodlines.  The Edomites and Israelites mixed between themselves as well as with Abraham’s other descendants. Today, there may be people of Edom that are truly Israelites, and Israelites that are really from Edom or Esau. This is where we fall short in our understanding of God. God is not about the “us and them”, or the Jew and Gentile. Remember, all Jews are Goyim, nations, but not all Goyim came from Judah/Jews. And just like we learned in The Letter of Aristeas, written around 300 BC, it is not about the animals that are clean or unclean, it is about the behaviors of the animals that are clean and unclean. God used animals as a visual example for people to understand they should not be destructive like mice or crafty like weasels. By people observing those behaviors they could understand just how God expected them to act. But God is not mad at people just because they were born in Babylon, Assyria, Egypt, Moab, or Edom. That is ridiculous. Even in Jesus’ lineage there are “outsiders” who were not of Jacob. Yet the devil uses the “us and them” idea to perpetuate hatred in the Middle East. It is not about heritage, it is about behavior. Characteristics that Nimrod and Esau exhibited are not the behaviors that God wanted on earth. Instead, they are the behaviors the devil inspires in people. It is not important to align ourselves with Jacob, or any of his sons, it is important to live like Jacob. This is why today it is important to support people who live like Jacob, rather than people who live like Esau. Violence, treachery, pride, manipulations, intimidations, and dominations should not be tolerated in the world.

Let’s note the places they lived. Shem and Eber were in Salem/Jerusalem, Isaac and Rebecca were in Hebron, and Esau went to Seir. Those three places are still contentious today. Why? Because the people who lived there at one time left behind their attitudes, along with either their belief in God or their nonbelief in God. Seir is in the mountains east of the Dead Sea. This is where Edom was originally and this is where Esau lived. There are many caves there, and the Edomites became known as cave men. Edom expanded westward, and then inhabited the area from the mountains east of the Dead Sea to the southern and western region of the Dead Sea, to the southern border of Judah, Idumea. Edom is now inhabited by people called Palestinians. Today, Hebron is Edom’s capital city. But again, it is not the people’s lineage or heritage that causes the trouble. It is their behaviors and their culture that God is judging, either they are for or against God, and either they treat people well or they don’t. There are many prophecies concerning Edom’s future destruction. Let’s explore.

Jer 49:7-10 Concerning Edom, thus saith the Lord of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?8 Flee ye, turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I will visit him.9 If grapegatherers come to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, they will destroy till they have enough.10 But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not. KJV

In the time the Lord visits, the calamity of Esau will come upon Edom. Esau can’t hide. Clearly Esau didn’t have a drive to know God like Jacob did. This is why Jacob received the birthright and the blessing. Edom has been really nasty to Israel ever since Jacob’s son’s left Egypt. Therefore, God made them small and despised among men. Remember Edom, the cousins of Jacob’s sons would not allow the Israelites to pass through their land during their exodus. Today, Palestinians are small in number and despised by the Muslim world. It is not because of their family heritage, but because of the culture and beliefs of the people who live there.

Jer 49:15-22 For, lo, I will make thee small among the heathen, and despised among men.16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.17 Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the Lord, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.19 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?20 Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord, that he hath taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitations desolate with them.21 The earth is moved at the noise of their fall, at the cry the noise thereof was heard in the Red sea.22 Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs. KJV

The people of the region of Edom are prideful and used their scary reputation as protection. Edom has always been inhabited, therefore the time she will be made a desolation is still future. However, as you may have been thinking regarding the geography of the region, Sodom and Gomorrah are in the region of Edom. Remember the sins of Sodom from the book of Jasher, the people were backwards in their thinking, they had unjust judges, took advantage of strangers, and starved the poor. The territorial spirits in those cities are the territorial spirits in the region of Edom. That is what influences the people there today. Sodom and Gomorrah have not been inhabited since its destruction, it is a wasteland. We know that Edom inhabited that area, but it’s apparent today, the area where those cities were is still uninhabitable. Recognize that the Red Sea is quite a ways away from the Dead Sea, there hasn’t been a sound loud enough to be heard from one to the other. But the Lord will fly over Edom at the time of her fall. The picture is this, the southern area of Israel from the mountains on the East to the southern borders of Judah will fall with a loud noise.

Ezek 25:13-14 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; I will also stretch out mine hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword.14 And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to mine anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord God. KJV

Remember the pride in Babylon that was marketed out over the earth, it seems that Edom will suffer the same fate as Babylon because of the pride of self-sufficiency. Ezekiel tells us they will fall by the sword, just like Esau has lived by the sword. Esau killed Nimrod with a sword, which must have been Esau’s way of dealing with contentions. Therefore, the people who live there believe that the only way to resolve contentions is with a sword. When is this going to take place? On the Day of Vengeance, the Day of the Lord. And again the Lord says that Seir will be desolate.

Ezek 35:1 Moreover the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,2 Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it,3 And say unto it, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate.4 I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.5 Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:6 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord God, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee.7 Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth.8 And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword.9 I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.10 Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the Lord was there:11 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord God, I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee.12 And thou shalt know that I am the Lord, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume.13 Thus with your mouth ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them.14 Thus saith the Lord God; When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate.15 As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the Lord. KJV

Something to keep in mind is that God never wanted bloodshed, but from the time of Cain and Able there has been bloodshed on the earth. Edom takes bloodshed as its badge, or uses the deaths it brings on others as trophies. The people of the region have been mixed and dispersed, and mixed, and mixed again, so DNA has nothing to do with God destroying Edom. It is the attitude of Esau that the region is emulating. The region is responding to the blessings the twins received and to the personalities of both men. Demonically inspired people are fighting against the people who love God. Israel is far from perfect but they love the Creator. The example of the fighting twins in utero tells us the spiritual battle has gone on a long time, from before the earthly physical birth. Just a side note, demons need bodies to live in to be of any influence and they don’t travel without bodies. While Edom is a concentrated area for violence, it also exported violence around the world.

Ezek 36:4 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey. KJV
Ezek 36:4-5 therefore, Mountains of Israel, listen to the Message of God, the Master. My Message to mountains and hills, to ditches and valleys, to the heaps of rubble and the emptied towns that are looted for plunder and turned into jokes by all the surrounding nations: 5 Therefore, says God, the Master, now I'm speaking in a fiery rage against the rest of the nations, but especially against Edom, who in an orgy of violence and shameless insolence robbed me of my land, grabbed it for themselves.' (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

Idumea was south of Judah and west of the Dead Sea, but Edom moved into the region. This is what God says, they appointed the land as their own. Edom robbed God’s land. This bespeaks again of an attitude that is disrespectful of God and self-serving. God has a remedy for that attitude. Babylon will receive the same correction.

Joel 3:17-21 So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.18 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the Lord, and shall water the valley of Shittim.19 Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.20 But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.21 For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the Lord dwelleth in Zion. KJV

Zion is Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the Holy Mountain. Joel is speaking of the Lord coming back with his armies and to restore Jerusalem for His reign. Egypt will be desolate, and Edom will be a desolate wilderness. Desolation is a ruin and that will be Egypt, but Edom is a deserted wilderness, no people will live there. Oddly, Judah will be full of good vegetation, and water from the temple will flow into the desert, while the southern areas will be desolate. From our 30,000 foot view of the planet, we see that God’s people have a right to live on the earth, but the devil’s people want everything for themselves. There will be no peace until the Prince of Peace comes. Jacob’s/Israel’s struggle is with people who do not want them to exist; Edom is not fighting for the land of Israel. Edom shed’s innocent blood for the sake of shedding blood, not because they themselves were harmed or hurt.

Amos 1:11-12 Thus saith the Lord; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:12 But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah. KJV

What did Esau do? Amos says he pursued Jacob with a sword. He also had no pity and was an angry person. Esau didn’t feel badly about his relationship with Jacob. Esau had no compassion towards his brother, and no respect for his parents. The people of that region are perpetually angry and wrathful. That is not due to lineage. Attitude toward God and those who serve God is important. Obadiah wrote entirely about Edom. We have two words to take notice of here, Alph Tav, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last: ‘rumor from Alph Tav the Lord’, is in the text. Another word to notice is heathen which is “nation”.

Obad 1-4 The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord God concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.2 Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the Lord. KJV

Pride in Edom is dominant. Pride is what brought Lucifer down. Pride brought Babylon down. Dependence on God is what raised Jacob up. Dependence on God is what separates the Church from the world today. Yet overwhelmingly, the people living in that region are violent toward people who they believe are Jews and Christians. In spite of this, there are Christians in Edom. They will not suffer destruction, they will be called up to meet Jesus in the air. We have to again re-align our thinking that Christ came to welcome everyone into the sheepfold, and the Christians in Palestine are as much saved and ready to be gathered as any other Christians.

Obad 10-14 For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.11 In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them. 12 But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.13 Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;14 Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress. KJV

Edom should not have rejoiced, or gloated, or celebrated over the destruction of Judah. Today, people in Middle Eastern countries celebrate other nations’ misfortunes, as when people flew planes into the World Trade Centers. The American news showed videos of people in Palestine celebrating. This is something God does not approve of. Look, Jews today are not perfect, Jacob and his descendants were not perfect, and Christians in our day and time are not perfect. The only thing that sets people apart is whether they believe on God the Creator, and confess Jesus as Lord. People can have either self-pride or humble dependence on God. Jacob’s descendants went into captivity because they did not follow God. Here is the warning.

Obad 15-16 For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.16 For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been. KJV

Again the word for heathen is “nations”. As the nations have done, so shall it be done unto them. There is no getting away with anything, whatever the nations do will be done to them. Once the church is called up, the only ones left on earth are Jews, non-Jews, and the martyred for Jesus. When Jesus comes back with his armies and the church, the Day of the Lord begins. That will be the time when the destruction will come on the people who do not confess Jesus as Lord.

Obad 17-18 But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.18 And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the Lord hath spoken it. KJV

Judah and Simeon will take back that area as well as the Gaza area, the coast where the Philistines resided. Look what will happen during the millennial kingdom, holiness and deliverance will come to Zion/Jerusalem.

Obad 19-21 And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.20 And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.21 And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the Lord's. KJV

Some say Sepharad is Spain, some say it is Lydia. Either way, Jacob’s descendants will come from all over. The word saviours really means “the delivered”, or the “remnant of the saved” will come to Mount Zion. We already know the angels will gather the remnant from all over the earth after the Day of the Lord. Here that remnant will be the judges of the people from Edom. Now we can see that if people treated others badly, they will be judged and sentenced in the same manner. Then note the words, ‘and the kingdom shall be the Alph Tav Lords’. The beginning and the ending of Obadiah’s prophecy announces the Alpha and Omega, Jesus, the first and last. The remnant will judge the people, the land will be destroyed and be made a desolate wilderness, and Jesus will be King of kings and Lord of lords. Remember Jesus is what all life centers around, not rules, laws, or sacrifices.

Mal 1:1-5The burden of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi.2 I have loved you, saith the Lord. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the Lord: yet I loved Jacob,3 And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.4 Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the Lord of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the Lord hath indignation for ever.5 And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The Lord will be magnified from the border of Israel. KJV

The people of Edom struggle today, they do live impoverished lives, but not for the reason they think they do. They believe that because Jacob tricked or deceived Esau that the sons of Jacob stole from them. One might say this is an attitude of un-forgiveness. In reality it is their behavior and attitude that bankrupts them. They will be known as the wicked land, and strangely they really do take pride in that title. Isaiah brings us the conclusion of Edom.

Isa 34:1 Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.2 For the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.3 Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.5 For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.6 The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.7 And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.8 For it is the day of the Lord's vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.9 And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.

Remember that some of the areas in this region were made desolate at the time of Abraham, but this is a greater, larger area. The sword of the Lord is “bathed in heaven”, meaning it is soaked in heaven. In other words, the sword drank it’s fill in the heavens. Then it comes down on Edom, all the animals in the region are slaughtered for a sacrifice. This is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, the day he pays back Edom for damages.

Isa 34:10 It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.11 But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.

The words for line of confusion and stones of emptiness are the same words used in Genesis 1:2, when the world became formless and void, tohuw bohuw. That is the way Edom will become, formless and void.

Isa 34:12 They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.13 And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls. 14 The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.15 There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.

Now we find out who will inhabit this land. Animals and demons will inhabit the area. Dragons (sea serpents or jackals), owls (ostriches), wild beasts of the desert, wild beasts of the island (howling beasts), satyr (half man half goat or devil), screech owl (Lilith a female night demon), great owl (arrow snake), vultures (falcons).  All of these have an interesting connotation. These weird creatures are ones that behave badly, like mice and weasels. Some have unusual movement implied as well such as coiling, spinning, and twisting. This will be the place where some demons will be bound, just like in Babylon. These demonic beings are specific to that area; God measured out this place and they will dwell there forever.

Isa 34:16 Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.17 And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein. KJV

Keep in mind that Edom’s destruction occurs when Jesus comes back with His armies (made up of the redeemed). There are redeemed living in Edom and Babylon, as well as other Middle Eastern nations. This is why the redeemed are gathered first, on the day of redemption; and then peace leaves the earth. Even in the tribulation days, God still makes provision for anyone to believe on Jesus as Lord and Savior, and by martyrdom, one can then escape the destruction of the nations. Nevertheless, Edom will be destroyed. The fighting that started in Rebecca’s womb will finally be resolved. The personalities of Jacob and Esau will be renewed in Jesus reigning from Zion as King. The craziness we see happening today will continue until those end days because the fighting of the twins is not finished. The example of Jacob and Esau is what we see playing out today. It is a great picture for us to learn from. That has always been the reason we are to look at the twins, to learn how to behave. God is searching the hearts of men looking for those who seek him. People don’t have to be perfect, they just have to have a humble dependence Him.

Psalm 24 A Psalm of David.

1 THE EARTH is the Lord's, and the fullness of it, the world and they who dwell in it. [1 Cor 10:26.] 2 For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the currents and the rivers. 3 Who shall go up into the mountain of the Lord? Or who shall stand in His Holy Place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted himself up to falsehood or to what is false, nor sworn deceitfully. [Matt 5:8.] 5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is the generation [description] of those who seek Him [who inquire of and for Him and of necessity require Him], who seek Your face, [O God of] Jacob. Selah [pause, and think of that]! [Ps 42:1.] 7 Lift up your heads, O you gates; and be lifted up, you age-abiding doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O you gates; yes, lift them up, you age-abiding doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is [He then] this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah [pause, and think of that]! AMP
