Mark 13; Yahweh Brings Them Back; The Curses; The Gathering; Pole Star


We looked at two records in Matthew and Luke last week regarding the Apocalypse and the misunderstanding regarding being taken or left behind. As we noted, the idea of being taken was actually being received, and being left is actually being sent away. This does not refer to the harpazo, but instead the end of the age when Jesus comes with His army and establishes His kingdom on the earth. We have a similar record to Matthew 24 in Mark 13. Mark is believed to be scribing for Peter, and his recording is shorter than Matthew’s. Matthew was the detailed scribe, Peter and Mark were the big picture guys. Both records are very close in content. So this time we will look at a few other aspects in both of these records that we did not touch on last week. 

Moses’ words to the sons of Jacob are often overlooked, but as we know, not one word of prophecy will fail or fall to the ground. Therefore we should look at how this section in Mark as well as the sections in Matthew and Luke compare to Moses’ words. Because as time moves forward, we will understand that Moses’ words are still in effect for those who do not believe on Jesus as Lord and Messiah. And we will see the fulfillment of Moses’ words in a particular period of time in the future which is announced by Jesus.

From Mark we see that the disciples who asked Jesus when the temple will be destroyed are Peter, James, John, and Andrew. This tells us that Matthew recorded this record from James, John, and/or Andrew. 

Mark 13:3-4 (KJV)  And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, 
4  Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled? 

Jesus is willing to tell them what will take place in the future. Jesus does this in a linear timeline of events. This is how humans understand the future, in a logical order. This is why context and an understanding of place and time is vital for us to study.

We could read this as Jesus saying, ‘You, moreover, look! See there, I foretell all.’ Jesus is telling the future but not really for their benefit. More so for the benefit of those who will be living at the time that these events are taking place. If we can get this understanding correct today, we can help the future generation understand what they will be, or are, living through. 

Even after the affliction of the civil war with the fascist zealots, and after the Romans crush the rebellion, destroy the temple, and drive out all the Jews, there will continue to be afflictions up until the time that Jesus establishes his Kingdom, the angels gather his elect, and the eagles gather the received. As Moses prophesies, there will be continued afflictions until the day that Yahweh brings them back into the land; the day they are gathered into the kingdom. Yahweh has not brought them back yet. After the days of the curses that Moses prophesied are fulfilled, there will be a celestial event.

We have a queer usage of G1565 showing up twice here. It could read: ‘However in those peoples’ day after those peoples’ persecution’. We know that the time of the curses has not been lifted, even if people who believe themselves to be Jews are occupying Israel in our day, they still don’t have a temple and they have continuous contentions with their neighbors. Yet it is almost like Jesus is speaking of “those other people” Why? Because the disciples believe on Jesus as Messiah. The curses of Moses’ prophecy don’t apply to the believers in Jesus as Lord and Christ. In the days of the people who refuse to believe on Jesus, there will be continued affliction. However, the worst afflictions were when they were in a civil war and then those still alive were driven out of the city. That is why Jesus said that brother shall betray brother to death, as well as fathers and sons and children against their parents. The fascists thought they were going to bring about a political freedom from Rome. Instead they killed their own people who didn’t believe in their politics. We see this attitude in the world today. Then Jesus says when they see the abomination of desolation, get out of the city. As we noted last week, the fascist zealots were barricaded in the temple. That is an abomination, and there have been many other abominations, as well as a few desolations. This however is the last abomination and the last desolation until the son of perdition sits in the Holy of Holies claiming to be god.  

What precedes Yahweh bringing the real sons of Jacob back? The sun will be dark, or in other words there will be no light and the moon will not shine either. We are not talking about a simple eclipse because we see something happen with the stars as well. For the sun and moon not to shine light means there will be some type of cloud covering over the light.

Literally: the stars of the heavens fall out, miraculous power shake among the heavens. If we remember, our story is written in the heavens. The constellations tell us of the time we are in, the season we are in, and the future of the victory of our Lord Jesus. Like a clock, the circle of the heavens is pointing to the age we are in and heading toward the future age.  On the day that the earth sees Jesus coming in the clouds with the saints  (the army), the sun will be dark, the moon will not shine, and the stars will look like they are falling as the miraculous powers of the heavens are shaken. That will be the jump of the north star of the circle in the heavens to the constellation of the King from the constellation of the sheepfold. How does that happen so quickly? The dunamis of the heavens are shaken or agitated, and the stars fall from their position.

Now we know why the sun and moon don’t give light, Jesus comes with a cloud. Clouds cover over light.  Remember there is no announcement, the sun and moon go dark, the stars shake, and then Jesus will be revealed on the earth. And, at that time they will stare at the son of anthropos, man-faced, appearing in the clouds with great miraculous power and glory. Jesus said to look at Him, don’t go in the house and don’t look back like Lot’s wife. Look At Him! Then Jesus says the angels will gather the elect from the four winds, from the farthest point of earth and from the farthest point of heaven. This is when Yahweh brings Jacob’s heirs back to the land of Israel. 

Mark 13:27 (KJV)  And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven. 

Jesus just gave us the fulfillment of Moses’ prophecy, when Yahweh brings them back. Remember in Deuteronomy 28 Moses announces the curses that they will endure. Now Deuteronomy 30 is the ending of the curses.

3  That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee, and will return and gather thee from all the nations, whither the LORD thy God hath scattered thee. 
4  If any of thine be driven out unto the outmost parts of heaven, from thence will the LORD thy God gather thee, and from thence will he fetch thee: 
5  And the LORD thy God will bring thee into the land which thy fathers possessed, and thou shalt possess it; and he will do thee good, and multiply thee above thy fathers. 
6  And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live. 

When? After all the curses or blessings are finished, the heirs of Jacob will remember the words of Moses and tell others in the nations they were scattered into. The Lord will gather from all the nations where they would (future tense from the time of Moses) be scattered, and gather them from the outmost parts of heaven. Jesus just explained Moses’ prophecy. After these people are gathered, they spend one thousand years with Jesus on the earth. 

Moses’ words are on target. From that particular day, the day Moses prophesied this, the people were looking ahead. They heard the requirements, they knew they could receive blessings or curses depending on their own actions, and they also knew they would be scattered all over the globe. Now Jesus says, whether dead or alive, they will be gathered together at the end of the seven years of tribulation, persecution, and brought back to Israel. Can man do this? No. Can men fill Israel with the heirs of Jacob and fulfill these events? No. Can declarations, treaties, wars or force fulfill these events? No. The only thing that will initiate the process of bringing back Jacob’s heirs to the land of Israel is Jesus’ Apocalypse. His revealing on the earth with his army. 

Now Jesus says heaven and earth will pass away. Yes heaven and earth are going to pass away, but we have to note when that will happen. We know after the one thousand year reign of Jesus, the satan will be loosed to deceive people once again. Once the satan is thrown into the lake of fire, Jesus will then judge those who have been in hades. But notice this verse in Revelation 20:11 and the context.

Revelation 20:10-15 (KJV) 
10  And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. 
11  And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 
12  And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 
13  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 
14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 
15  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. 

The earth and heaven fled away. There wasn’t any place for the earth and the heaven. Also notice the two places of the dead, death and hell. Both places gave up the dead, which tells us the these two places, hades and what used to be called Abraham’s bay were still being used to house the dead. We know hades as the place of torment, as Jesus told us, and Abraham’s bay as a waiting area with water and other righteous people. Since Jesus took back the keys to hell and death at his own death, we have the answer to the questions as to “what if someone died as a baby or didn’t hear about Jesus”. Everyone goes through Jesus at the time of death, the righteous go to paradise, those who never knew about Jesus or were not old enough to know Jesus go to Abraham’s bay, and those who were unrighteous go to hades. Everyone goes through Jesus at death. Now John tells us more about heaven and earth. 

Revelation 21:1 (KJV)  And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 

The first heaven and earth were passed away. Jesus told this to Peter, James, John, and Andrew. Now John is giving us more details. The place we live on will perish. Why and how, we don’t know. We know at the time of the White Throne judgment the earth and heaven flee, because there is no place for them. That alludes to the idea that earth and heaven have corruption in them. The earth is corrupted, the heaven is corrupted, and both are rendered void. Didn’t Paul say the entire creation groans and travails in agony? Let’s go back to Jesus’ words.

Jesus said that the heaven and earth will perish, or pass out of sight, but the words he spoke, the logos, will not perish. All will be fulfilled in proper linear time. We have to understand that humans are bound to the dimension of time. While the thought of going back in time is appealing we cannot do that. 

Jesus’ next statement is one that causes much confusion. Many want to attribute this statement to the harpazo, yet it is not the harpazo or rapture. Jesus is specifically talking about when heaven and earth will pass away.

 Again we have that unusual usage of G1565. This puts a personal touch on Jesus’ words. Jesus is not talking about events only, he is talking about people experiencing these events. It could read ‘On the other hand, concerning the heavens and earth perishing, in those peoples’ day, and hour, no one knows. Jesus has always been concerned about people, not the events, or tragedies that will occur. If we remove the human factor and only look to the “signs”, we will continue to distance ourselves from His words. This is how we cause confusion, because we look to signs in the world around us to substantiate our own beliefs. 

At the time of the destruction of the temple, many signs were given, but people did not heed them and instead they ignored them as if they meant nothing. Giving signs is not Jesus’ primary focus. Giving an order to main events is Jesus’ focus.

We know that the heaven and earth will perish, and we know it will not be until after the one thousand year reign of Christ on the earth. Therefore all those people who are pushing environmental agendas, or scaring people regarding the world ending now, are sorely mistaken. We simply have to be smarter than this fear based tactic of the satan. This is what fascists do to rally support for their agenda. They become zealous over a cause, and then become militant, forcing others to follow. The cause of their zeal usually has little to do with actually helping anyone else, simply their own wallets or agenda’s. But their militant behaviors show their political motives, which are inspired spiritually. Understand, the prince of this world has an agenda, to sow discord among all humans, brothers against brothers, Fathers against sons, etc, just as Jesus said. The more killing humans do on the earth, the more justified the god of this world feels. This is why we see factions of mentally imbalanced people calling for the killing of elected world leaders. Fascism. Who inspires fascism? The god of this world influences the children of disobedience. Nonetheless, Moses’ words have not been fulfilled, and will not be fulfilled until the coming of Jesus in the clouds with his army. When that day happens, to those who are on the earth, LOOK AT HIM…
