Crowns of Victory For The Saints

Our world culture associates crowns with power and position, but the Bible tells us crowns are for the meek servants of Jesus as a reward for serving. We are told we will receive crowns that are like victory wreaths.   One of the elements of the book of Revelation is the crown.  Elders wear crowns and demonic beings wear crowns.  The elders take off their crowns and bow before God Almighty.

In the Old Testament a crown is the top of the head or the brow. Another meaning is a molding that was to go around the ark as described in Exodus.  Aaron was the first one to wear a crown, this tells us that the high priest was to wear a crown; his sons did not wear crowns.  The first person other than the High Priest to wear a crown was Saul the first king. The Bible tells us we will become kings and priests, and we have that example in the Old Testament of kings and priests wearing crowns.  Sometimes crowns are figurative and sometimes they are physical. But our potential to earn a physical glorious crown of life or righteousness comes from our actions here on earth. The crown we earn is a wreath, commonly understood in the sporting events of the time of the Greek Olympic Games. How we live, how we lead, how we love Jesus are all factors in gaining a crown.

NT:4735 stephanos (stef'-an-os); from an apparently primary stepho (to twine or wreathe); a chaplet (as a badge of royalty, a prize in the public games or a symbol of honor generally; but more conspicuous and elaborate than the simple fillet, NT:1238), literally or figuratively: KJV - crown.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

NT:4735 stefanos, stefanou, ho   a crown (with which the head is encircled)  a. properly, as a mark of royal or (in general) exalted rank  b. metaphorically, the eternal blessedness which will be given as a prize to the genuine servants of God and Christ: 2 Tim 4:8  that which is an ornament and honor to one: so of persons, Phil 4:1(from Thayer's Greek Lexicon, Electronic Database. While some people like to stretch the word of God and say there are five crowns that we can receive, we will see that is not exactly true; one has to distort the context to come up with that.  Any crown is a crown of glory, but truly there is a crown of life and a crown of righteousness that we can be crowned with.

I think Ezra’s vision, as we concluded with last week, is very interesting. While on Mt.Horeb Ezra was sent to Israel, but they rejected the commands of the Lord.  So Ezra speaks, calling out to the heathen. Not only was he speaking to Israel, but also to non-Israelites.

2 Esd 2:33-48 I Esdras received a charge of the Lord upon the mount Oreb, that I should go unto Israel; but when I came unto them, they set me at nought, and despised the commandment of the Lord.34 And therefore I say unto you, O ye heathen, that hear and understand, look for your Shepherd, he shall give you everlasting rest; for he is nigh at hand, that shall come in the end of the world.35 Be ready to the reward of the kingdom, for the everlasting light shall shine upon you for evermore.36 Flee the shadow of this world, receive the joyfulness of your glory: I testify my Saviour openly.

Ezra is saying that the Shepherd is coming soon and those who follow him will have rest.  He goes on to tell them they will be led for the heavenly kingdom.  He then points out that there will be a number sealed.  Is this the 144,000?

37 O receive the gift that is given you, and be glad, giving thanks unto him that hath led you to the heavenly kingdom.38 Arise up and stand, behold the number of those that be sealed in the feast of the Lord;39 Which are departed from the shadow of the world, and have received glorious garments of the Lord.

The 144,000 receive white garments and stand on Mt. Zion with the Lord.

40 Take thy number, O Sion, and shut up those of thine that are clothed in white, which have fulfilled the law of the Lord.41 The number of thy children, whom thou longedst for, is fulfilled: beseech the power of the Lord, that thy people, which have been called from the beginning, may be hallowed.

The number of His children is fulfilled.  We know there is a number of Gentiles, a number for the sealed, which is 144,000, and a number of Martyrs.  These numbers all fulfill the numbers of His people.  Ezra goes on.

42 I Esdras saw upon the mount Sion a great people, whom I could not number, and they all praised the Lord with songs. 43 And in the midst of them there was a young man of a high stature, taller than all the rest, and upon every one of their heads he set crowns, and was more exalted; which I marvelled at greatly.

It seems Ezra’s vision is very closely related to John’s vision.

44 So I asked the angel, and said, Sir, what are these?45 He answered and said unto me, These be they that have put off the mortal clothing, and put on the immortal, and have confessed the name of God: now are they crowned, and receive palms.

These people receive physical crowns or wreaths. Paul taught us that the mortal puts on immortality and the corruptible puts on incorruption.  Ezra then sees Jesus, but does not know who he is.

46 Then said I unto the angel, What young person is it that crowneth them, and giveth them palms in their hands?47 So he answered and said unto me, It is the Son of God, whom they have confessed in the world. Then began I greatly to commend them that stood so stiffly for the name of the Lord.48 Then the angel said unto me, Go thy way, and tell my people what manner of things, and how great wonders of the Lord thy God, thou hast seen.KJV

Jesus was born about four hundred years after the time of Ezra.  Solomon wrote something similar in the book of the Wisdom of Solomon.

Wisdom 5:15-16 But the righteous live for evermore; their reward also is with the Lord, and the care of them is with the most High.16 Therefore shall they receive a glorious kingdom, and a beautiful crown from the Lord's hand: for with his right hand shall he cover them, and with his arm shall he protect them. KJV

It seems to be an established idea at the time of these writings that the righteous will receive a new kingdom and a physical crown from the Lord. The book The Wisdom of Sirach, aka The Book of Ecclasiasticus is a collection of proverbial ideas by Joshua ben Sira, who lived about 200 BC. Sirach gives us some insight to what people of his day understood about crowns.  We see some of these ideas reflected in Paul’s writings.

Ecclus 1:11 The fear of the Lord is honour, and glory, and gladness, and a crown of rejoicing.KJV

Ecclus 1:18 The fear of the Lord is a crown of wisdom, making peace and perfect health to flourish; both which are the gifts of God: and it enlargeth their rejoicing that love him.KJV

Fearing the Lord keeps us from making mistakes. It becomes a crown of rejoicing and a crown of wisdom because we don’t do things we shouldn’t.  These are figurative. Next, Sirach tells us wisdom is a crown of joy.

Ecclus 6:22-31 For wisdom is according to her name, and she is not manifest unto many.23 Give ear, my son, receive my advice, and refuse not my counsel,24 And put thy feet into her fetters, and thy neck into her chain.25 Bow down thy shoulder, and bear her, and be not grieved with her bonds.26 Come unto her with thy whole heart, and keep her ways with all thy power.27 Search, and seek, and she shall be made known unto thee: and when thou hast got hold of her, let her not go.28 For at the last thou shalt find her rest, and that shall be turned to thy joy.29 Then shall her fetters be a strong defence for thee, and her chains a robe of glory.30 For there is a golden ornament upon her, and her bands are purple lace.31 Thou shalt put her on as a robe of honour, and shalt put her about thee as a crown of joy.KJV

Joy is an emotion; a crown of joy is a figurative crown, as someone who’s living a joyful life because they abide by wisdom. Next, the fear of the Lord is a crown of gladness

Ecclus 15:1-8 He that feareth the Lord will do good, and he that hath the knowledge of the law shall obtain her.2 And as a mother shall she meet him, and receive him as a wife married of a virgin.3 With the bread of understanding shall she feed him, and give him the water of wisdom to drink.4 He shall be stayed upon her, and shall not be moved; and shall rely upon her, and shall not be confounded.5 She shall exalt him above his neighbours, and in the midst of the congregation shall she open his mouth.6 He shall find joy and a crown of gladness, and she shall cause him to inherit an everlasting name.7 But foolish men shall not attain unto her, and sinners shall not see her.8 For she is far from pride, and men that are liars cannot remember her.KJV

Sirach’s wisdom tells us the fear of the Lord is a crown of rejoicing and a crown of wisdom.  Wisdom is a crown of joy and fearing the Lord is a crown of gladness.  He also tells us that old age is valuable, as experience is a crown to the elderly.

Ecclus 25:5-6 O how comely is the wisdom of old men, and understanding and counsel to men of honour.6 Much experience is the crown of old men, and the fear of God is their glory.KJV

Solomon also made that point.  A hoary head is a silver head of hair, or gray hair.

Prov 16:31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness. KJV

The point of both Sirach and Solomon is that older people who fear the Lord and walk in righteousness are crowned with gray hair. As we previously noted from the Bible, Jesus and the Father both have hair as white as wool. Therefore, we should look at white/gray hair as an honor if it is on the head of a righteous person. These are figurative crowns, we don’t wear a crown of wisdom or fear but wisdom and fear are like a crown that reminds us to behave in a righteous manner.  Paul explains what we are to do to earn an incorruptible or immortal crown.

1 Cor 9:23-27 And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible [immortal #862].26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.KJV

NT:862 aphthartos (af'-thar-tos); from NT:1 (as a negative particle) and a derivative of NT:5351; undecaying (in essence or continuance): KJV - not (in-, un-) corruptible, immortal.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

We push ourselves, striving to become better, living as if we are ultra marathoners, conditioning and eating correctly so that we can gain an incorruptible crown.  Let’s see this from the AMP and the Message.

1 Cor 9:23-27 And I do this for the sake of the good news (the Gospel), in order that I may become a participator in it and share in its [blessings along with you]. 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but [only] one receives the prize? So run [your race] that you may lay hold [of the prize] and make it yours. 25 Now every athlete who goes into training conducts himself temperately and restricts himself in all things. They do it to win a wreath that will soon wither, but we [do it to receive a crown of eternal blessedness] that cannot wither. 26 Therefore I do not run uncertainly (without definite aim). I do not box like one beating the air and striking without an adversary. 27 But [like a boxer] I buffet my body [handle it roughly, discipline it by hardships] and subdue it, for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel and things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit [not stand the test, be unapproved and rejected as a counterfeit]. AMP

1 Cor 9:23-27 I did all this because of the Message. I didn't just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it! 24 You've all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. 25 All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You're after one that's gold eternally. 26 I don't know about you, but I'm running hard for the finish line. I'm giving it everything I've got. No sloppy living for me! 27 I'm staying alert and in top condition. I'm not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself. This is a physical crown we attain to. Paul tells us that the brethren are his joy and crown.  If people in the body of Christ are a joy and crown, it is obviously an expression that people who have become saved are a blessing to Paul.

Phil 4:1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved. KJV

There is a figure of speech called metonymy which is the change of one noun for another related noun.  In other words, the people are a joy and a victory to Paul.  They are a victory because he has now dedicated his entire life to the work of the gospel.  But to understand this figure of speech, picture Paul longing for the people of Philippi and receiving them with open arms, a large smile, and great anticipation, as their names are written on his head. He can’t wait to encourage everyone to stand fast in the Lord.

1 Thess 2:18-20 Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing [boasting #2746]? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? 20 For ye are our glory and joy. KJV

NT:2746 kauchesis (kow'-khay-sis); from NT:2744; boasting (properly, the act; by implication, the object), in a good or a bad sense: KJV - boasting, whereof I may glory, glorying, rejoicing.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Again the believers are Paul’s crown of rejoicing or boasting.  Paul earned the right to brag about the Thessalonians because they would be in the presence of Jesus at His coming.  These are not physical crowns but figurative crowns.  The believers were the crown of joy and boasting. These were the early days of the church and the churches Paul planted were small.  These two verses coincide with 1 Corinthians, the reason we work so hard spreading the gospel is because the people who become saved are our crowns.   No, we don’t wear people on our heads, but we then have the right to boast about how hard we worked to keep ourselves in “shape” so we could tell them the good news.  Thinking about the day of Pentecost, the word of God spread throughout the world and continues because the word of God is living and powerful as Hebrews tells us.  Paul says because he has fought for the word of God he will have a crown of righteousness.

2 Tim 4:7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.KJV

As we read from Solomon, the righteous will live forever and the Lord will crown them. This is a physical crown.  It is important to note that Solomon and Paul are saying the same thing.  The knowledge of the righteous being crowned was an Old Testament idea that is fulfilled in and by the Messiah.   James tells us more.

James 1:12-14 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.KJV

There is not just a crown of righteousness, but also a physical crown of life if we overcome temptation.  As James points out, people are tempted not by God, but when they are drawn away by lust. Let’s read this in the Message.

James 1:12-15 Anyone who meets a testing challenge head-on and manages to stick it out is mighty fortunate. For such persons loyally in love with God, the reward is life and more life. 13 Don't let anyone under pressure to give in to evil say, "God is trying to trip me up." God is impervious to evil, and puts evil in no one's way. 14 The temptation to give in to evil comes from us and only us. We have no one to blame but the leering, seducing flare-up of our own lust. 15 Lust gets pregnant, and has a baby: sin! Sin grows up to adulthood, and becomes a real killer. (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)

Peter mentions something important, instead of being leaders who lord over others, we are to lead by example, and then our crown will not fade away.

1 Peter 5:1-4 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.KJV

As in Peter’s time, we have people who lord over us in the church.  Some groups become cults as one leader tells everyone else how to live and sometimes how to die.  It is interesting that there are people who follow cruel and harsh leaders.  It says a lot about the character of the followers because they don’t rise up and leave.  God’s perfect plan is for His leaders to lead by biblical example.  I’ve heard some leaders go so far as to advocate mistresses and polygamy because they themselves wanted to either partake in that lifestyle and/or absolve themselves of their past sins.  These again are false teachers and not those who lead by biblical example.  Leaders are not to lead for money’s sake either.  We may not have many good leaders who adhere to Peter’s words, but there are some out there.  Again, when Jesus comes, and we are gathered, and love His appearing, we will receive a physical glorious crown. Let’s see what Jesus told us in his seven epistles to the churches.

Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.KJV

Again a crown of life is given to those who are faithful even if they are martyred.

Rev 3:10-12 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.KJV

If we keep His word, confessing Him as Lord, we will be kept from the tribulation. However if we do not stay faithful we could lose our crown.  Yet if we do stay faithful, we will attain to the New Heaven and New Earth.

To understand our potential for receiving a crown of righteousness, or a crown of life/immortality, we are to live in righteousness, resisting temptations.  People are our “crowns”, when they confess Jesus as Lord, we rejoice over them. As leaders we are to lead by example, not by lording over people, as the Nicolaitans did.

As we have studied, in John’s vision we saw the twenty four elders in heaven with the beasts.  We know these are not humans as they were already in heaven asking John questions about what he was seeing.  These twenty four elders have crowns.

Rev 4:4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.KJV

Rev 4:10-11 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.KJV

These elders throw down their crowns/wreaths in front of the throne, a sign of honor to God Almighty.  People have always assumed we will do the same; that is not clear from the word of God; no where is that stated. What we do see however is that there is a difference between this Strong’s’ number 4735, and number 1238, which only shows up in Revelation.

NT:1238 diadema (dee-ad'-ay-mah); from a compound of NT:1223 and NT:1210; a "diadem" (as bound about the head):KJV - crown. Compare NT:4735 (Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

While the word stephanos is a crown of honor, a badge of royalty or a prize; a diadem is not considered a prize or for royalty.  It is used three times in the Bible, all in Revelation. Two times it is used of demonic beings, and once it is used of Jesus. Let’s explore.

Rev 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns [1238]upon his heads KJV

This is the “back story” that John gives us of Lucifer. While in verse 1 the woman is crowned with a wreath, stephanos, in verse 3 the dragon is crowned with a diadem, two different types of crowns.

Rev 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns [1238], and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.KJV

Again, as in 12:3, a demonic being comes out of the sea wearing diadems. Before we look at the last reference of diadem, we see in chapter 14 Jesus getting ready to reap the world.  He is wearing a stephanos.

Rev 14:14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown [stephanos 4735], and in his hand a sharp sickle.KJV

Rev 19:11-13 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns [diadem 1238]; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.KJV

We gain our understanding of this difference between the two crowns in Victor Alexander’s translation of Revelation 19:12 “….and on his head, a tiara of crowns, who has the titles that are written”.   (Or as Alexander notes, “He holds [is famous for] many titles [written names], but has one name.”) This understanding between stephanos and diadem is material, a wreath compared to a tiara, a gold headband compared to a gold tiara.

While we earn gold headbands, Jesus when he comes back on a horse with his bride will be wearing a kingly crown.  It is also symbolic as lesser beings and subjects are wearing wreaths, but the beings in higher power wear tiaras. Every day we are closer to Jesus being our King of kings and Lord of lords.  While we attain to a wreath of honor, Jesus has a wreath of honor, but will have a tiara of Headship when he comes back with his bride.

If we look at this small adornment we can understand a lot about our future position and Jesus’ future position.  Right now, Jesus wears a stephanos, a gold wreath, but when he comes back to earth to defeat the beast, he will be wearing a tiara, that symbolizes many titles.  The dragon has tiaras and the beast that comes out of the sea has tiaras, but Jesus comes to defeat them and take away their crowns. One of the bigger problems Lucifer had was a power trip.  While we know he was lifted up with pride, he was prideful because he wanted power.  As we have studied, Lucifer had sanctuaries; he had a position of leadership and was corrupting his subjects, merchandising them.  He wanted to attain to sitting on his throne in the sides of the north, the place where he could judge the sons of God in the mount of the congregation.  Power hungry, he became prideful as to how capable he was, rather than humble.

From Ezra, Solomon, Sirach, Paul, Peter, James, and Jesus we see the overall picture of crowns of righteousness and life attained for faithful living. Ezra, Paul, James, and Jesus tell us we will receive a crown of life. Solomon and Paul tell us we will receive a crown of righteousness.  Physical crowns of life and/or righteousness are for the meek and humble servant of the gospel, those who put their bodies into subjection to the Spirit receive these crowns.  Those who lead by example, unlike Lucifer, who do not lord over others, or do it for gain, receive this stephanos, wreath.  Those who will love the appearing of Jesus in the clouds will also receive stephanos of righteousness. Those who go through hard times and are obedient to death will be rewarded with a stephanos of life.   We know these can be stolen, so there is no guarantee of receiving a crown of life or righteousness unless we are faithful to the end of our lives. While Jesus wears a stephanos, a wreath, now, when he comes to defeat satan he will be wearing a diadem, as a King of kings and a Lord of lords.

Becoming Like Angels in the Resurrection, Comparing the Book of Enoch to Jesus’ and Paul’s Words

It is an interesting statement that Jesus made concerning what we would be like in the resurrection.  There has been no end to confusion regarding the resurrection, in part because the idea of a resurrection was not supported by the Sadducees; and also because pagan ideas flooded Christianity at the time of Constantine. Because there was a void in Judaic teaching on the subject of death and resurrection, pagan thoughts became a comfort to those in mourning, as the idea of departed loved ones floating on clouds with harps and wings seems to be the predominant theology of the day.  The question of “what” is the resurrection and “when” is the resurrection was not taught by the Sadducees.  That void caused The Apostle Paul to nail down some of the details for us.  However, the bigger picture is that after the resurrection we are like the angels.

This comparison of humans to angels has a lot of pagan ideas associated with it, such as people becoming angels when they die, or babies being cherubs when they die.  Unless we answer the “when” of the resurrection, we allow for those ideas to have a place that doesn’t actually exist in scripture. Enoch gives us clues as to our creation.  We were to be like the angels in holiness so that death could not overtake us. But because the angels who left heaven to take earthly wives taught mankind many things God did not intend for man to know, mankind became sinful.  We looked into this as we studied Azazael who taught people about war and weaponry.

Enoch 69:11. For men were created exactly like the angels, to the intent that they should continue pure and righteous, and death, which destroys everything, could not have taken hold of them, but through this their knowledge they are perishing, and through this power it is consuming me.

In order for men to be pure and righteous today, we need to believe that Jesus came and make him our Lord.  However, men were able to be pure and righteous before Jesus came by believing that the Messiah would come; men such as Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Enoch and Elijah, who we studied as the two witnesses, still have their bodies as they were taken up before death.  These two men were so righteous and pure that they never even died.  They have the task of losing their bodies to martyrdom during the tribulation.

Let’s look at what Jesus said regarding being like angels. When being interrogated Jesus answered the Sadducees and gave us a clue to our future. Those people who obtain to the resurrection are like the angels of God.  Time to investigate.

Matt 22:23-32 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him, 24 Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:26 Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.27 And last of all the woman died also.28 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.KJV

Now from Mark:

Mark 12:19-27 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.KJV

And Luke:

Luke 20:28-38 Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.29 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.30 And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.32 Last of all the woman died also.33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.KJV

The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection.  They believed in the first five books of the Bible, the Torah. Since they didn’t hold to the doctrine of the other books we have in our modern Bible, they either didn’t understand the resurrection or refused to believe in the resurrection. They were trying to trap Jesus with this story, saying in essence, if there is a resurrection, people in this situation would have multiple spouses.  Jesus’ reply is to mention that they err not knowing the scriptures.  What scriptures did they not know?  Firstly, the heavens tell us that a redeemer would come to earth, die and rise and then redeem mankind.  That is the first “scripture” regarding a resurrection. Secondly, other books of the Old Testament spoke of rising from the dead, but they were books the Sadducees did not regard.  Let’s look at Job and 2nd Ezra.

Job 19:25-29 For I know that my Redeemer and Vindicator lives, and at last He [the Last One] will stand upon the earth. [Isa 44:6; 48:12.] 26 And after my skin, even this body, has been destroyed, then from my flesh or without it I shall see God, 27 Whom I, even I, shall see for myself and on my side! And my eyes shall behold Him, and not as a stranger! My heart pines away and is consumed within me. 28 If you say, How we will pursue him! [and continue to persecute me with the claim] that the root [cause] of all these [afflictions] is found in me, 29 Then beware and be afraid of the sword [of divine vengeance], for wrathful are the punishments of that sword, that you may know there is a judgment. AMP

2 Esd 2:16 And those that be dead will I raise up again from their places, and bring them out of the graves: for I have known my name in Israel.KJV

2 Esd 2:23 Wheresoever thou findest the dead, take them and bury them, and I will give thee the first place in my resurrection.KJV

The second point Jesus makes regarding the Sadducees not knowing the scriptures is that God is the God of the living. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are among the living, and as we have previously studied regarding hell and the compartments of hell and the grave, there was a place for those who believed the redeemer would come.  They are conscious and fully aware of where they are. We know that when Jesus died, he went into the grave and witnessed to those there and brought them to paradise.  But, thus far, they have not been resurrected.  They will be resurrected when the dead in Christ rise.  Remember, we saw from Revelation that no one is floating around heaven, they are in Paradise awaiting the harpazo, which will be the time the redeemed go to heaven.  We have spent considerable time untangling the web of false doctrines that crept into the church via pagan ideas and practices. Paul, who had been a rabbi before Jesus met him on the road to Damascus, knew that the Sadducees didn’t believe in the resurrection, so Paul hits the idea of the resurrection hard, explaining it in various ways so that the people would understand.

Rom 1:3-4 Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;4 And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: KJV

Rom 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: KJV

1 Cor 15:12-23 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.KJV

Phil 3:10-12 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.KJV

Paul recognized the key to attaining to the resurrection of the dead was to live well, according to the way God intends for us to live.  But Jesus was not simply speaking of the resurrection in that there will be a resurrection; he told us what we would be like in the resurrection.  No longer will we marry but we will be like angels. We should look at Luke 20 again.

Luke 20:34-38 And Jesus said to them, The people of this world and present age marry and are given in marriage; 35 But those who are considered worthy to gain that other world and that future age and to attain to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage; 36 For they cannot die again, but they are angel-like and equal to angels. And being sons of and sharers in the resurrection, they are sons of God. 37 But that the dead are raised [from death] — even Moses made known and showed in the passage concerning the [burning] bush, where he calls the Lord, The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. [Ex 3:6.] 38 Now He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to Him all men are alive [whether in the body or out of it] and they are alive [not dead] unto Him [in definite relationship to Him]. AMP

Angel-like and equal to angels.  That is very interesting.  If we will become angel-like when we are harpazo’d, when we put on incorruption and immortality, then we can understand our new bodies better.  As we studied our new bodies previously we saw what we would be like when we come back to earth with Jesus at the end of the tribulation.  Our new bodies will be awesome!

Enoch points out a few interesting things regarding sin and sinners, which is the opposite of what Enoch told us we should be, pure and righteous.

Enoch 97:7. Woe to you, ye sinners, who live on the mid ocean and on the dry land, Whose remembrance is evil against you. 8. Woe to you who acquire silver and gold in unrighteousness and say:
"We have become rich with riches and have possessions; And have acquired everything we have desired. 9. And now let us do what we purposed :For we have gathered silver, And many are the husbandmen in our houses." And our granaries are (brim) full as with water,10 Yea and like water your lies shall flow away ;For your riches shall not abide But speedily ascend from you; For ye have acquired it all in unrighteousness, And ye shall be given over to a great curse.

The first phrase to consider is “sinners who live on the mid ocean and on the dry land”.  These sound like people who do not live on the same land mass, i.e. continent, as the middle-east.  This would probably include the Americas and Australia, as well as any other inhabited islands. At the time Enoch was alive on earth, he was seeing into the future, people were going to die in the flood and then re-inhabit the earth. The prosperity of the island nations, who strive for wealth and to take care of their own needs, is gained in unrighteousness.  That is not what we were created to do. This is reminiscent of the Laodicean Church, “I have become rich and wealthy and have need of nothing”. The lukewarm church does not have to rely on God.  We were created to be pure and righteous, yet attaining wealth is sometimes done in unrighteous ways.  God knows how we attain our riches.

Enoch100:5. And over all the righteous and holy He will appoint guardians from amongst the holy angels
To guard them as the apple of an eye, Until He makes an end of all wickedness and all sin, And though the righteous sleep a long sleep, they have nought to fear.

Paul tells us in Heb 1:14; “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”  Angels are to minister to us.  The phrase, “the apple of His eye”, is used several times in the Bible. Here is the big point, though the righteous sleep a long sleep, or, even though the righteous are in the grave a long time (they are fully awake and conscious in the grave), they have nothing to fear.  Why?  Because at the time of the resurrection, the redeemed will put on incorruption and immortality.  Let’s go on.

6. And (then) the children of the earth shall see the wise in security, And shall understand all the words of this book, And recognize that their riches shall not be able to save them In the overthrow of their sins.

At the time of the resurrection, the children of the earth will know the truth; that their riches cannot save them.  Enoch speaks of some woes for those who harm and oppress the righteous.

7. Woe to you, Sinners, on the day of strong anguish, Ye who afflict the righteous and burn them with fire: Ye shall be requited according to your works. 8. Woe to you, ye obstinate of heart, Who watch in order to devise wickedness: Therefore shall fear come upon you And there shall be none to help you. 9. Woe to you, ye sinners, on account of the words of your mouth, And on account of the deeds of your hands which your godlessness as wrought, In blazing flames burning worse than fire shall ye burn.

Here we see allusions to the lake of fire and some of the tormenting compartments of hell. God will ask the angels about the deeds of the evil people who harm the righteous.  As we know from Ezekiel 9, there are scribe angels, writing down what people say and do.
10 And now, know ye that from the angels He will inquire as to your deeds in heaven, from the sun and from the moon and from the stars in reference to your sins because upon the earth ye execute judgement on the righteous. 11. And He will summon to testify against you every cloud and mist and dew and rain; for they shall all be withheld because of you from descending upon you, and they shall be mindful of your sins. 12. And now give presents to the rain that it be not withheld from descending upon you, nor yet the dew, when it has received gold and silver from you that it may descend. 13. When the hoar-frost and snow with their chilliness, and all the snow-storms with all their plagues fall upon you, in those days ye shall not be able to stand before them.

Even the elements will testify against the sinners, those who worship the rain, and make offerings to the rain “gods” will be punished.  Again Enoch tells us the angels know what we do and they remember the bad people and their behaviors, but also the good people and their righteousness.

Enoch 104:1. I swear unto you, that in heaven the angels remember you for good before the glory of the Great One: and your names are written before the glory of the Great One. 2. Be hopeful; for aforetime ye were put to shame through ill and affliction; but now ye shall shine as the lights of heaven, ye shall shine and ye shall be seen, and the portals of heaven shall be opened to you. 3. And in your cry, cry for judgement, and it shall appear to you; for all your tribulation shall be visited on the rulers, and on all who helped those who plundered you. 4. Be hopeful, and cast not away your hopes for ye shall have great joy as the angels of heaven.

We can have great joy if we live purely and righteously as the angels of heaven.

5. What shall ye be obliged to do? Ye shall not have to hide on the day of the great judgement and ye shall not be found as sinners, and the eternal judgement shall be far from you for all the generations of the world. 6. And now fear not, ye righteous, when ye see the sinners growing strong and prospering in their ways: be not companions with them, but keep afar from their violence; for ye shall become companions of the hosts of heaven.

We will be companions of the hosts of heaven, that is why Jesus said we won’t be marrying, but we will be like or equal to the angels.

7. And, although ye sinners say: "All our sins shall not be searched out and be written down," nevertheless they shall write down all your sins every day.

The angels write down the sinners’ sins every day.  That is scary. 2 Esd 16:65-66 And when your sins are brought forth, ye shall be ashamed before men, and your own sins shall be your accusers in that day.66 What will ye do? or how will ye hide your sins before God and his angels? KJV

8. And now I show unto you that light and darkness, day and night, see all your sins. 9. Be not godless in your hearts, and lie not and alter not the words of uprightness, nor charge with lying the words of the Holy Great One, nor take account of your idols; for all your lying and all your godlessness issue not in righteousness but in great sin. 10. And now I know this mystery, that sinners will alter and pervert the words of righteousness in many ways, and will speak wicked words, and lie, and practice great deceits, and write books concerning their words.

This seems to have been written for our day and time.  There are myriads of books written that pervert God and his word. This is not what man was called to do.  We were never meant to reduce God to pen and paper, nor to write lies about God.  We were meant to have a living and vital relationship with Him, just like the angels. Before Moses wrote the Torah, the redeemed, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and the rest, all knew God personally.  There were no laws, but they were living in relationship with Yahweh.  When the angels procreated the Nephilim, they also taught things God did not want taught.  We should keep in perspective, Lucifer had long before stolen Adam’s lease of rulership on earth. They knew Lucifer was in charge.  Leaving their first estate probably seemed like fun, as they could do things to destroy mankind.    Let’s go back to Enoch 69 to look at the context of the section where Enoch tells us we are to be like the angels.

Enoch 69:8. And the fourth was named Pênêmûe: he taught the children of men the bitter and the sweet, and he taught them all the secrets of their wisdom. 9. And he instructed mankind in writing with ink and paper, and thereby many sinned from eternity to eternity and until this day. 10. For men were not created for such a purpose, to give confirmation to their good faith with pen and ink. 11. For men were created exactly like the angels, to the intent that they should continue pure and righteous, and death, which destroys everything, could not have taken hold of them, but through this their knowledge they are perishing, and through this power it is consuming me†.

11. But when they write down truthfully all my words in their languages, and do not change or minish ought from my words but write them all down truthfully--all that I first testified concerning them. 12. Then, I know another mystery, that books will be given to the righteous and the wise to become a cause of joy and uprightness and much wisdom. 13. And to them shall the books be given, and they shall believe in them and rejoice over them, and then shall all the righteous who have learnt there from all the paths of uprightness be recompensed.

Enoch is pointing out that books are not evil if they are written from the truth of God’s word.  The righteous will rejoice over books about God.  Remember Jeremiah wrote: Jer 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.KJV

We are rewarded for our study of God’s word.  It seems that our purpose in being like the angels had more to do with our personal connection to God, just as we see with the Melchizedek priesthood. That time period after the flood and before the written law, was all about relationship with God.  Not hearing about God from a priest or someone else.  This is not what God wants for us, even today.  We should grow into a relationship with God as Hebrews points out. Again, Enoch reiterates that the angels were to testify to humankind.

Enoch 105:1. In those days the Lord bade (them) to summon and testify to the children of earth concerning their wisdom: Show (it) unto them; for ye are their guides, and a recompense over the whole earth. 2. For I and My son will be united with them for ever in the paths of uprightness in their lives; and ye shall have peace: rejoice, ye children of uprightness. Amen.

Angels were to be our guides; we were to be like them in pureness and righteousness.  But angels are not perfect.  It would seem that all spirit beings have freedom of will, to do either good or bad.  Angels are inter dimensional, they can move among all dimensions, where we are bound to living in three and only understanding four; length, width, height, and time. This is why angels were able to come to earth and procreate, we cannot go into the heavens and live, we would die.  So angels can behave in bad ways or good ways.  They were intended to behave in pureness and righteousness, as we were, but because they have free will, they may make mistakes just as we do.  Therefore, Paul tells us we will judge them.  It seems odd that humans bound to three dimensions will judge inter-dimensional beings, but the angels were to minister to us, to help us and guide us in this fallen world.  Yet they can fall too.

1 Cor 6:2-3 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?KJV

Jesus himself took on the nature of humankind, not angels when he came to earth.  He had to be like us in order to redeem us. Yet didn’t satan remind him that angels were given charge over him?

Heb 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. KJV
Matt 4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.KJV

Angels were given charge over us as well.  And in the resurrection, we will be like them. What else do we know about angels? We know they eat food, their own kind of food, and that the children of Israel ate angel food in the wilderness.

Ps 78:25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.KJV
2 Esd 1:19 Then had I pity upon your mournings, and gave you manna to eat; so ye did eat angels' bread.KJV

Wisdom 16:20 Instead whereof thou feddest thine own people with angels' food, and didst send them from heaven bread prepared without their labour, able to content every man's delight, and agreeing to every taste.KJV

We also know that they are spirit beings and flaming fiery beings.  They also still tremble before the throne of God.

Ps 104:4 Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire: KJV
2 Esd 8:20-21 O Lord, thou that dwellest in everlastingness which beholdest from above things in the heaven and in the air;21 Whose throne is inestimable; whose glory may not be comprehended; before whom the hosts of angels stand with trembling,KJV

Looking again at the fallen angels who asked Enoch to intercede to God on their behalf, we see that they were to intercede for humans. We understand this, as humans were on the earth which had had a change in rulership from Adam to satan.

Enoch 15:1. And He answered and said to me, and I heard His voice: 'Fear not, Enoch, thou righteous man and scribe of righteousness: approach hither and hear my voice. 2. And go, say to ⌈⌈the Watchers of heaven⌉⌉, who have sent thee to intercede ⌈⌈for them: "You should intercede"⌉⌉ for men, and not men for you: 3. Wherefore have ye left the high, holy, and eternal heaven, and lain with women, and defiled yourselves with the daughters of men and taken to yourselves wives, and done like the children of earth, and begotten giants (as your) sons? 4. And though ye were holy, spiritual, living the eternal life, you have defiled yourselves with the blood of women, and have begotten (children) with the blood of flesh, and, as the children of men, have lusted after flesh and blood as those also do who die and perish. 5. Therefore have I given them wives also that they might impregnate them, and beget children by them, that thus nothing might be wanting to them on earth. 6. But you were formerly spiritual, living the eternal life, and immortal for all generations of the world. 7. And therefore I have not appointed wives for you; for as for the spiritual ones of the heaven, in heaven is their dwelling. 8. And now, the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling. 9. Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies; because they are born from men, ⌈⌈and⌉⌉ from the holy Watchers is their beginning and primal origin; they shall be evil spirits on earth, and evil spirits shall they be called. [10. As for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth which were born upon the earth, on the earth shall be their dwelling.] 11. And the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble: they take no food, but nevertheless hunger and thirst, and cause offences. And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them.

We can see that angels are capable of procreation, even though there were not to procreate with humans. By doing so, they created disembodied spirit beings that we know today as demons.  Demons seek a body to occupy since they do not have their own. Angels are eternal, and we know that we have eternal life at the time of the resurrection.

Enoch 16:1. From the days of the slaughter and destruction and death of the giants, from the souls of whose flesh the spirits, having gone forth, shall destroy without incurring judgement--thus shall they destroy until the day of the consummation, the great judgement in which the age shall be consummated, over the Watchers and the godless, yea, shall be wholly consummated." 2. And now as to the Watchers who have sent thee to intercede for them, who had been ⌈⌈aforetime⌉⌉ in heaven, (say to them): "You have been in heaven, but all the mysteries had not yet been revealed to you, and you knew worthless ones, and these in the hardness of your hearts you have made known to the women, and through these mysteries women and men work much evil on earth." 4. Say to them therefore: "You have no peace."'

Angels do not know everything; they may know some mysteries, but not all mysteries.  We can understand their vulnerability as they are not “all knowing” beings, but like us they know a little.  They probably have knowledge of what they should and shouldn’t be doing, but that leaves them open to mistakes.

As Paul taught  in 1 Corinthians 15, Christ was the first resurrection, the second resurrection are the first fruits, those who are harpazo’d, then the third resurrection are those who are His at his coming to earth at the end of the tribulation.  After the resurrection we will be like angels, inter-dimensional, strong, knowing some mysteries, capable of standing before the throne of God, even if we tremble.  We may be helpers of those on earth during the millennial kingdom and in the new earth.  We won’t be marrying, and there probably won’t be gender bias or racial discrimination.  Paul recognized that while we are living on earth we have not attained to the resurrection, but that it is an ongoing process, one which requires us to be pure and righteous.  One day we will judge angels, but until that time we should realize that angels, like us, are vulnerable to mistakes and capable of turning our backs on God.  Therefore, we should strive, like Paul said, for the mastery of an incorruptible crown.

I want to leave off with a vision Ezra had of Mount Zion. He saw a large number of people praising. He saw the Lord, and the Lord put crowns on everyone’s heads. These are the people who put on immortality. Ezra understood the resurrection and was to tell everyone about it.

2 Esd 2:42-48 I Esdras saw upon the mount Sion a great people, whom I could not number, and they all praised the Lord with songs.43 And in the midst of them there was a young man of a high stature, taller than all the rest, and upon every one of their heads he set crowns, and was more exalted; which I marvelled at greatly.44 So I asked the angel, and said, Sir, what are these?45 He answered and said unto me, These be they that have put off the mortal clothing, and put on the immortal, and have confessed the name of God: now are they crowned, and receive palms.46 Then said I unto the angel, What young person is it that crowneth them, and giveth them palms in their hands?47 So he answered and said unto me, It is the Son of God, whom they have confessed in the world. Then began I greatly to commend them that stood so stiffly for the name of the Lord.48 Then the angel said unto me, Go thy way, and tell my people what manner of things, and how great wonders of the Lord thy God, thou hast seen.KJV

Enoch Foretells Jesus’ Coming, How the Patriarchs Were Redeemed, the Book of Enoch as a Companion to Revelation

In Genesis 3:15 we have the first prophecy of someone coming who would save humankind.  As we have previously studied, this plan was written in the story of the constellations.  The etymology, every star name and definition, tells the story of Jesus’ coming.  Enoch, who was the seventh from Adam, also prophesied about Jesus’ coming. Enoch’s prophecies give us a prequel to our story and a sequel to our day and time.  The sequel starts at the time of the gathering of the saints.  It is amazing how much of the Book of Enoch correlates to Revelation.  Enoch saw so far into the future, almost six thousand years ahead of His time.  John wrote the Book of Revelation two thousand years ahead of his time. The ancient people kept the story of redemption and salvation alive in their hearts, yet at the time Jesus came to earth, many people had hardened their hearts regarding the Messiah.  Yet we know this was for a purpose, to give time for the Gentiles to come to faith in the Lord, which is one of the great mysteries the Apostle Paul reveals.

We know from our previous studies that when Jesus died he went into the grave and brought the redeemed believing line from Adam, out from Sheol, and took them to Paradise.  These things were prophesied throughout history.  Enoch’s writings regarding the Day of the Lord align beautifully with the Bible.  Typically, the aversion to Enoch lies with our misunderstanding of timing, such as when the Day of the Lord will take place and when the saints get to heaven.  Once we comb through our timeline in Revelation, the prophesies of Enoch become clear.  Enoch gave very clear warnings to the world of what will happen to everyone, eternal life or eternal death.  The Patriarchs such as Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, as well as others like Shem/Melchizedek, David, Solomon, and prophets such as Isaiah and Ezekiel, all knew what the future would hold for humankind.  They believed these things; they looked forward to the coming Messiah, and were saved and redeemed.  Today we believe on these things, looking backwards to Jesus’ coming to earth, and are saved and redeemed.

Last week we looked at the Ophanim from Chapter 71 of Enoch; Enoch tells us some things that shed light on other parts of the word of God, especially the book of Revelation.

CHAPTER LXXI.

1. And it came to pass after this that my spirit was translated And it ascended into the heavens: And I saw the holy sons of God. They were stepping on flames of fire: Their garments were white [and their raiment],
And their faces shone like snow.

Enoch says he saw the sons of God stepping on the flames of fire.  God told Lucifer that he allowed him to walk among the stones of fire, Ezekiel 28:14-16.
Ezek 28:14-16 You were the anointed cherub that covers with overshadowing [wings], and I set you so. You were upon the holy mountain of God; you walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire [like the paved work of gleaming sapphire stone upon which the God of Israel walked on Mount Sinai]. [Ex 24:10.] 15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until iniquity and guilt were found in you. 16 Through the abundance of your commerce you were filled with lawlessness and violence, and you sinned; therefore I cast you out as a profane thing from the mountain of God and the guardian cherub drove you out from the midst of the stones of fire. AMP

2. And I saw two streams of fire, And the light of that fire shone like hyacinth, And I fell on my face before the Lord of Spirits.

In 2nd Maccabees we have this phrase Lord of the Spirits in the KJV, but in Douay-Rheims it is translated differently.  While this phrase is used here and in Enoch, it is probably translated as Almighty God throughout the Bible.
2 Macc 3:24 Now as he was there present himself with his guard about the treasury, the Lord of spirits, and the Prince of all power, caused a great apparition, so that all that presumed to come in with him were astonished at the power of God, and fainted, and were sore afraid.KJV
2 Macc 3:24 But the spirit of the almighty God gave a great evidence of his presence, so that all that had presumed to obey him, falling down by the power of God, were struck with fainting and dread. Douay-Rheims

3. And the angel Michael [one of the archangels] seized me by my right hand, And lifted me up and led me forth into all the secrets, And he showed me all the secrets of righteousness.
4. And he showed me all the secrets of the ends of the heaven, And all the chambers of all the stars, and all the luminaries, Whence they proceed before the face of the holy ones.
5. And he translated my spirit into the heaven of heavens, And I saw there as it were a structure built of crystals, And between those crystals tongues of living fire.

I like the phrase the secrets of righteousness. It implies that there is a mystery that righteousness produces, something that people don’t understand. We studied that previously. http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2013/02/righteousness-and-justification.html

Tongues of fire are spoken of in Acts 2:3, on the day of Pentecost.
Acts 2:2-4 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.KJV

Crystals in Ezekiel 1:22, Revelation 4:6
Ezek 1:22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature was as the colour of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.KJV
Rev 4:6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.KJV

6. And my spirit saw the girdle which girt that house of fire, And on its four sides were streams full of living fire, And they girt that house.
7. And round about were Seraphin, Cherubic, and Ophannin: And these are they who sleep not And guard the throne of His glory.
8. And I saw angels who could not be counted, A thousand thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand, Encircling that house. And Michael, and Raphael, and Gabriel, and Phanuel, And the holy angels who are above the heavens, Go in and out of that house.

The idea of thousand thousands and ten thousand times ten thousand is in Daniel 7:10 and Revelation 5:11. http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2013/03/when-we-get-to-heaven-revelation-5_11.html

Seraphim, Cherubim, and Ophanim guard the throne of His glory, which is what we saw the Ophanim doing in Ezekiel.  http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2013/04/ophanim-ezekiels-wheels-enochs.html

9. And they came forth from that house, And Michael and Gabriel, Raphael and Phanuel, And many holy angels without number.
10. And with them the Head of Days, His head white and pure as wool, And His raiment indescribable.

Daniel 7:9-22 speaks of the Ancient of days whose hair on his head is as white as wool.  Revelation 1:14 describes Jesus as having white hair like wool.
Dan 7:9 I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.KJV
Rev 1:12-15 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.KJV

11. And I fell on my face, And my whole body became relaxed, And my spirit was transfigured; And I cried with a loud voice,. . .with the spirit of power, And blessed and glorified and extolled.
12. And these blessings which went forth out of my mouth were well pleasing before that Head of Days. 13. And that Head of Days came with Michael and Gabriel, Raphael and Phanuel, thousands and ten thousands of angels without number.
[Lost passage wherein the Son of Man was described as accompanying the Head of Days, and Enoch asked one of the angels (as in 463) concerning the Son of Man as to who he was.]
14. And he (i.e. the angel) came to me and greeted me with His voice, and said unto me:
'This is the Son of Man who is born unto righteousness; And righteousness abides over him, And the righteousness of the Head of Days forsakes him not.'
15. And he said unto me: 'He proclaims unto thee peace in the name of the world to come; For from hence has proceeded peace since the creation of the world, And so shall it be unto thee for ever and for ever and ever.

Here we see Enoch being told about Jesus, the son of man.  There are 198 usages of the son of man in the Bible, but here are two to look at.  In John 12:34 Jesus testifies of himself having to be lifted up, and in Revelation 14:14 we again see the son of man, Jesus. Sometimes we forget that Jesus is the one who was, who is, and is to come.  We looked at righteousness and what that is. http://musingsofawinsomeheart.blogspot.com/2013/02/righteousness-and-justification.html
John 12:34-35 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. KJV
Rev 14:14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.KJV

Enoch also writes that he, Jesus, proclaims peace in the world or more likely, age to come
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.KJV
.
16. And all shall walk in his ways since righteousness never forsaketh him: With him will be their dwelling-places, and with him their heritage, And they shall not be separated from him for ever and ever and ever.
17. And so there shall be length of days with that Son of Man, And the righteous shall have peace and an upright way In the name of the Lord of Spirits for ever and ever.'

Eternal life with the Son of Man; that is what this life on earth is all about, striving to attain.   We see from Enoch the depth of the spiritual beings in the heavens, and we see some mysteries that are mentioned in the Bible, mentioned here. Chapter 45 of Enoch is a parable that we should look at.

CHAPTER XLV.

1. And this is the Second Parable concerning those who deny the name of the dwelling of the holy ones and the Lord of Spirits.
2. And into the heaven they shall not ascend, And on the earth they shall not come: Such shall be the lot of the sinners Who have denied the name of the Lord of Spirits, Who are thus preserved for the day of suffering and tribulation.

This is written about those who deny the name of the Lord, Matt 10:33, 2 Timothy 2:12.  Enoch seems to be concerned about those who will be preserved for the day of suffering and tribulation. Again the phrase Lord of the Spirits can be looked at as Almighty God.
Matt 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.KJV
2 Tim 2:11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: KJV

3. On that day Mine Elect One shall sit on the throne of glory And shall try their works, And their places of rest shall be innumerable. And their souls shall grow strong within them when they see Mine Elect Ones, And those who have called upon My glorious name:

Matthew 24:30 says that the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming in glory. The elect ones who call on His name, dwell with Jesus during the millennial reign of Christ.

4. Then will I cause Mine Elect One to dwell among them. And I will transform the heaven and make it an eternal blessing and light

5. And I will transform the earth and make it a blessing: And I will cause Mine elect ones to dwell upon it: But the sinners and evil-doers shall not set foot thereon.
6. For I have provided and satisfied with peace My righteous ones And have caused them to dwell before Me: But for the sinners there is judgement impending with Me,
So that I shall destroy them from the face of the earth.

Revelation 20:11 is the great white throne judgment, which takes place after the one thousand years is finished. Those who didn’t make the millennial kingdom will be judged.  Then there will be a new heaven and new earth.
Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.KJV

Let’s look at the next parable, Enoch 46.

CHAPTER XLVI.

1. And there I saw One who had a head of days,
And His head was white like wool,
And with Him was another being whose countenance had the appearance of a man,
And his face was full of graciousness, like one of the holy angels.

Here are the same descriptions as before. The Head of Days and Jesus look the same as Father and son look the same.

2. And I asked the angel who went with me and showed me all the hidden things, concerning that Son of Man, who he was, and whence he was, (and)
why he went with the Head of Days? And he answered and said unto me:
This is the son of Man who hath righteousness,
With whom dwelleth righteousness,
And who revealeth all the treasures of that which is hidden,

Because the Lord of Spirits hath chosen him,
And whose lot hath the pre-eminence before the Lord of Spirits in uprightness for ever.

4, And this Son of Man whom thou hast seen
Shall †raise up† the kings and the mighty from their seats,
[And the strong from their thrones]
And shall loosen the reins of the strong,
And break the teeth of the sinners.

5. [And he shall put down the kings from their thrones and kingdoms]
Because they do not extol and praise Him,
Nor humbly acknowledge whence the kingdom was bestowed upon them.
6. And he shall put down the countenance of the strong,
And shall fill them with shame.

And darkness shall be their dwelling,
And worms shall be their bed,
And they shall have no hope of rising from their beds,
Because they do not extol the name of the Lord of Spirits.

This sounds like the day of the Lord, when Jesus comes to earth with His army and cleans up the earth. It is interesting that Enoch is telling people of his time period about what hell is like for the sinner, no hope of rising from the grave, eternal death.  Those who choose to oppose the Lord God will lie in a bed of worms, Jesus and Isaiah say that their worms will not die, meaning they will have worms feeding on them for eternity, as well as an unquenchable fire.
Mark 9:41-48 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.KJV
Isa 66:23-24 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.24 And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.KJV

7. And these are they who †judge† the stars of heaven,
[And raise their hands against the Most High],
†And tread upon the earth and dwell upon it†.

And all their deeds manifest unrighteousness,
And their power rests upon their riches,
And their faith is in the †gods† which they have made with their hands,
And they deny the name of the Lord of Spirits,

8. And they persecute the houses of His congregations,
And the faithful who hang upon the name of the Lord of Spirits.

Here we see again the evil people of the earth and the evil spirit beings’ influence on the earth.  People trust in riches, they make their own gods to worship; they persecute the houses of His congregations and the faithful who live for Jesus.  This could have been written this week instead of almost 6,000 years ago.  That does give us a clue, the same sins and evil occurred then and continue to occur now, as Solomon wrote, there is nothing new under the sun. Let’s look at chapter 47 of Enoch.

CHAPTER XLVII.

1. And in those days shall have ascended the prayer of the righteous,
And the blood of the righteous from the earth before the Lord of Spirits.

If we thought our prayers were not ever heard, we see that Enoch sees that the prayers of the righteous ascend. Also, the blood of martyrs will be avenged. As we previously saw from Tobit and Revelation regarding the prayers of the saints:
Tob 12:15 I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels, which present the prayers of the saints, and which go in and out before the glory of the Holy One.KJV
Rev 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.KJV
Rev 8:3-4 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.KJV
2 Esd 15:7-9 Therefore saith the Lord,8 I will hold my tongue no more as touching their wickedness, which they profanely commit, neither will I suffer them in those things, in which they wickedly exercise themselves: behold, the innocent and righteous blood crieth unto me, and the souls of the just complain continually.9 And therefore, saith the Lord, I will surely avenge them, and receive unto me all the innocent blood from among them.KJV
Rev 6:10-11 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.KJV
Rev 19:2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.KJV

2. In those days the holy ones who dwell above in the heavens Shall unite with one voice
And supplicate and pray
[and praise, And give thanks and bless the name of the Lord of Spirits]On behalf of the blood of the righteous which has been shed, And that the prayer of the righteous may not be in vain before the Lord of Spirits, That judgement may be done unto them, And that they may not have to suffer for ever.
3. In those days I saw the Head of Days when He seated himself upon the throne of His glory, And the books of the living were opened before Him: And all His host which is in heaven above and His counselors stood before Him,
4 And the hearts of the holy were filled with joy; Because the number of the righteous had been offered, And the prayer of the righteous had been heard, And the blood of the righteous been required before the Lord of Spirits.

The books of the living seem to be related to the Lamb’s book of life.
Phil 4:3-4 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.KJV
Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.KJV
Rev 13:7-8 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.KJV
Rev 20:12-15 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.KJV
Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.KJV

It is interesting how far into the future Enoch could see, he sees the great white throne judgment, he sees the martyred saints, and he sees the prayers of the saints in heaven. He also sees and understands the book of life.  This is the knowledge the ancient patriarchs had of future events, and this is how they were redeemed. Enoch 48:

CHAPTER XLVIII.

1. And in that place I saw the fountain of righteousness Which was inexhaustible: And around it were many fountains of wisdom; And all the thirsty drank of them, And were filled with wisdom, And their dwellings were with the righteous and holy and elect.
2. And at that hour that Son of Man was named In the presence of the Lord of Spirits, And his name before the Head of Days.

When the two witnesses are taken up, the coronation of Jesus as ruler of the kingdoms of the world begins.  As we know from our own earthly experiences, this usually does not happen without a battle.  Although Jesus was named before the creation, he was not crowned.  When the heavenly declaration occurs, the devil and his subjects will put up a fight, but Jesus will win and reign for one thousand years before putting an end to all evil.  It’s amazing the Patriarchs knew the story before the flood, and then after the flood, yet today we are still trying to get the message out.
Rev 11:15-19 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.16 And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.KJV

3. Yea, before the sun and the signs were created, Before the stars of the heaven were made, His name was named before the Lord of Spirits.
4. He shall be a staff to the righteous whereon to stay themselves and not fall, And he shall be the light of the Gentiles, And the hope of those who are troubled of heart.
5. All who dwell on earth shall fall down and worship before him, And will praise and bless and celebrate with song the Lord of Spirits.
6. And for this reason hath he been chosen and hidden before Him, Before the creation of the world and for evermore.

This is the mystery that the Apostle Paul revealed, that the gentiles should be fellow heirs and of the same body.  It was given to Paul to reveal during his time, yet Enoch revealed part of this mystery as well.

7. And the wisdom of the Lord of Spirits hath revealed him to the holy and righteous; For he hath preserved the lot of the righteous, Because they have hated and despised this world of unrighteousness, And have hated all its works and ways in the name of the Lord of Spirits: For in his name they are saved, And according to his good pleasure hath it been in regard to their life.
8. In these days downcast in countenance shall the kings of the earth have become, And the strong who possess the land because of the works of their hands; For on the day of their anguish and affliction they shall not (be able to) save themselves.

The kings of the earth who have opposed God Almighty will come to an end on the Day of the Lord.
Rev 19:17-21 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.KJV

9. And I will give them over into the hands of Mine elect: As straw in the fire so shall they burn before the face of the holy: As lead in the water shall they sink before the face of the righteous, And no trace of them shall any more be found.
10. And on the day of their affliction there shall be rest on the earth,
And before them they shall fall and not rise again: And there shall be no one to take them with his hands and raise them: For they have denied the Lord of Spirits and His Anointed. The name of the Lord of Spirits be blessed.

Another vision Enoch has of the Day of the Lord, Enoch 52:

CHAPTER LII.

l. And after those days in that place where I had seen all the visions of that which is hidden--for I had been carried off in a whirlwind and they had borne me towards the west-- 2. There mine eyes saw all the secret things of heaven that shall be, a mountain of iron, and a mountain of copper, and a mountain of silver, and a mountain of gold, and a mountain of soft metal, and a mountain of lead.
3. And I asked the angel who went with me, saying, 'What things are these which I have seen in secret?' 4. And he said unto me: 'All these things which thou hast seen shall serve the dominion of His Anointed that he may be potent and mighty on the earth.'
5. And that angel of peace answered, saying unto me: 'Wait a little, and there shall be revealed unto thee all the secret things which surround the Lord of Spirits.
6. And these mountains which thine eyes have seen, The mountain of iron, and the mountain of copper, and the mountain of silver, And the mountain of gold, and the mountain of soft metal, and the mountain of lead, All these shall be in the presence of the Elect One As wax: before the fire, And like the water which streams down from above [upon those mountains], And they shall become powerless before his feet.
7. And it shall come to pass in those days that none shall be saved, Either by gold or by silver, And none be able to escape.
8 And there shall be no iron for war, Nor shall one clothe oneself with a breastplate. Bronze shall be of no service, And tin
[shall be of no service and] shall not be esteemed,
And lead shall not be desired.
9 And all these things shall be
[denied and] destroyed from the surface of the earth, When the Elect One shall appear before the face of the Lord of Spirits.'

The Day of the Lord, when Jesus puts everything under his feet, then offers everything up to God.  Peter tells us the elements will melt on that scary day.

2 Peter 3:10-13 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.KJV

Enoch 53:

CHAPTER LIII.

1. There mine eyes saw a deep valley with open mouths, and all who dwell on the earth and sea and islands shall bring to him gifts and presents and tokens of homage, but that deep valley shall not become full.
2. And their hands commit lawless deeds,
And the sinners devour all whom they lawlessly oppress:
Yet the sinners shall be destroyed before the face of the Lord of Spirits,
And they shall be banished from off the face of His earth,
And they shall perish for ever and ever.

3. For I saw all the angels of punishment abiding (there) and preparing all the instruments of Satan. 4. And I asked the angel of peace who went with me: 'For whom are they preparing these instruments?' 5. And he said unto me: 'They prepare these for the kings and the mighty of this earth, that they may thereby be destroyed.

We saw from Revelation 9, two of the three woes.  The locusts, and the angels and their armies who come out to war against man, they have instruments of war. They have been preparing for their liberation for a long time.  They all have their own armament, and they have weapons to harm mankind. This would be a great time to avoid being on earth. The locusts come out of the abyss, Apollyon/Abaddon the destroyer, is their king.  Then the four angels bound around the Euphrates will be loosed with their armies.  Then, if we remember, the third woe is satan being thrown out of heaven, where he accuses us day and night.

Something to keep in perspective, the people of earth have denied Jesus and the Father, yet the evil spirit beings attack mankind.  They are not a “team” working together; no matter how many people you have heard say that.  The humans and the evil spirits are not a team.  The humans left on earth do what the evil beings want them to, but the evil beings are not protecting the humans or helping them in any way. Instead they are destroying the humans.  It seems as if we have misunderstood that point. The evil beings do not deny the existence of Jesus and the Almighty God, but the humans do.  Both the humans and the evil spirit beings are opposing God, yet it seems to be the mission of the evil beings to destroy humankind.  That is the key, how many humans can be destroyed.

6. And after this the Righteous and Elect One shall cause the house of his congregation to appear: henceforth they shall be no more hindered in the name of the Lord of Spirits.
7. And these mountains shall not stand as the earth before his righteousness, But the hills shall be as a fountain of water, And the righteous shall have rest from the oppression of sinners.

The above congregation, the episunagoge, will appear.  Those who are redeemed, and are in heaven at the start of the seals being opened are the above congregation.
NT:1997episunagoge (ep-ee-soon-ag-o-gay'); from NT:1996; a complete collection; especially a Christian meeting (for worship):KJV - assembling (gathering) together.(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

2 Thess 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,KJV

As we have previously studied, the coming of Jesus is the Day of the Lord, the parousia, and the gathering is the above congregation; epi, above or over, sunagoge, synagogue.

CHAPTER LXII.

1. And thus the Lord commanded the kings and the mighty and the exalted, and those who dwell on the earth, and said: 'Open your eyes and lift up your horns if ye are able to recognize the Elect One.'
2. And the Lord of Spirits seated him on the throne of His glory,
And the spirit of righteousness was poured out upon him,
And the word of his mouth slays all the sinners,
And all the unrighteous are destroyed from before his face.

After Jesus comes to earth with His army, his bride, he will sit on His throne. He will rule for one thousand years. Then the dead, who were not raised before Jesus’ one thousand year reign, will be judged. That will be the great white throne judgment.
Rev 20:11-15 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.KJV

3. And there shall stand up in that day all the kings and the mighty,
And the exalted and those who hold the earth,
And they shall see and recognize How he sits on the throne of his glory,
And righteousness is judged before him,
And no lying word is spoken before him.
4. Then shall pain come upon them as on a woman in travail,
[And she has pain in bringing forth]
When her child enters the mouth of the womb,
And she has pain in bringing forth.
5. And one portion of them shall look on the other,
And they shall be terrified,
And they shall be downcast of countenance,
And pain shall seize them,
When they see that Son of Man Sitting on the throne of his glory.
6. And the kings and the mighty and all who possess the earth shall bless and glorify and extol him who rules over all, who was hidden.
7. For from the beginning the Son of Man was hidden,
And the Most High preserved him in the presence of His might,
And revealed him to the elect.
8. And the congregation of the elect and holy shall be sown,
And all the elect shall stand before him on that day.
9. And all the kings and the mighty and the exalted and those who rule the earth
Shall fall down before him on their faces,
And worship and set their hope upon that Son of Man,
And petition him and supplicate for mercy at his hands.
10. Nevertheless that Lord of Spirits will so press them
That they shall hastily go forth from His presence,
And their faces shall be filled with shame,
And the darkness grow deeper on their faces.
11. And He will deliver them to the angels for punishment,
To execute vengeance on them because they have oppressed His children and His elect
12. And they shall be a spectacle for the righteous and for His elect:
They shall rejoice over them,
Because the wrath of the Lord of Spirits resteth upon them,
And His sword is drunk with their blood.

It seems Enoch is saying that the people standing before the throne who are being judged will change their minds, maybe try to “schmooze” Jesus, and then worship Jesus to save themselves, but it will be too late.

13. And the righteous and elect shall be saved on that day,
And they shall never thenceforward see the face of the sinners and unrighteous.
14. And the Lord of Spirits will abide over them,
And with that Son of Man shall they eat
And lie down and rise up for ever and ever.
15. And the righteous and elect shall have risen from the earth,
And ceased to be of downcast countenance.
And they shall have been clothed with garments of glory,
16. And these shall be the garments of life from the Lord of Spirits:
And your garments shall not grow old,
Nor your glory pass away before the Lord of Spirits.

White garments are given to several groups during the tribulation, the bride, the overcomers, the martyred, and the ones who go through the great tribulation.  The reward for following and serving the Lord is eternal life with Him.
Rev 19:7-8 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.KJV
Rev 3:4-5 Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.KJV
Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.KJV

This is how the Patriarchs got saved, by believing the words of Enoch and the stories written in the heavens.  The line of believers from Adam got saved because they knew these things.  We think that the plan of salvation is two thousand years old, it is not, and it is over six thousand years old.  The plan was in place before the re-creation of the earth.  It was prophesied in Genesis 3:15.  The ancient people had the same choice to make as we do, to follow Elohim or to follow the devil. What people miss is that the devil does not have a soft spot for humans and will instead kill as many as he can. The plan was told in the story of the constellations as well as by Enoch to his generation.  The story of salvation helped our ancestors endure.  This is the story of the redeemed, before Jesus came to earth and after Jesus was crucified; the Elect one has come, and will be gathering his heavenly congregation soon. Whether it happens in our lifetime or not, everything else prophesied up to now has come to pass.  We are to hold steady in our faith, enduring and overcoming until the end.
