Gold; Diffused or Specular; Incorporeal Beings; Hoarder of Gold; the Fall of the satan; Spirit of Wisdom

We put a high price on gold as a precious metal. We think that if we invest in gold we will be safe from financial ruin. The Bible talks about gold, but what we see is something that does not have as much of a monetary value as a value for one spiritual individual’s vanity. We have never explored the fall of the satan nor his need for hoarding gold. What we will see is a different picture of gold. We will see how man got caught up in the misdirection of gold, and how compared to the Spirit of Wisdom, gold is simply sand. Gold has a diffused reflection and one being saw his own beauty shine back on him and he admired himself. However the Spirit of Wisdom makes us friends and prophets of God, and this is the true treasure that we should seek.

Ezekiel 28:13 Thou wast in the delight of the paradise of God; thou hast bound upon thee every precious stone, the sardius, and topaz, and emerald, and carbuncle, and sapphire, and jasper, and silver, and gold, and ligure, and agate, and amethyst, and chrysolite, and beryl, and onyx: and thou hast filled thy treasures and thy stores in thee with gold. (Brenton)

It is quite an interesting idea to recognize that the satan spent his time in the paradise of God surrounded by precious stones and metals. It seems that being surrounded by this type of beauty was not enough. The satan filled treasuries and storehouses. There seems to be an overlooked reason for this. It may be elementary but it is one we should explore so that we don’t get suckered into a trap.

Enoch explains that the leader of the Grigori is a prince called Satanail. The satan led a group to the earth to sin. The satan did not partake in this sin. We will answer the question as to why shortly.

The Secrets of Enoch XVIII.
Of the taking of Enoch on to the fifth heaven.
THE men took me on to the fifth heaven and placed me, and there I saw many and countless soldiers, called Grigori, of human appearance, and their size was greater than that of great giants and their faces withered, and the silence of their mouths perpetual, and there was no service on the fifth heaven, and I said to the men who were with me:
2 Wherefore are these very withered and their faces melancholy, and their mouths silent, and wherefore is there no service on this heaven?
3 And they said to me: These are the Grigori, who with their prince Satanail rejected the Lord of light, and after them are those who are held in great darkness on the second heaven, and three of them went down on to earth from the Lord's throne, to the place Ermon, and broke through their vows on the shoulder of the hill Ermon and saw the daughters of men how good they are, and took to themselves wives, and befouled the earth with their deeds, who in all times of their age made lawlessness and mixing, and giants are born and marvellous big men and great enmity.
4 And therefore God judged them with great judgement, and they weep for their brethren and they will be punished on the Lord's great day.
5 And I said to the Grigori: 'I saw your brethren and their works, and their great torments, and I prayed for them, but the Lord has condemned them to be under earth till heaven and earth shall end for ever.'
6 And I said: 'Wherefore do you wait, brethren, and do not serve before the Lord's face, and have not put your services before the Lord's face, lest you anger your Lord utterly?'
7 And they listened to my admonition, and spoke to the four ranks in heaven, and lo! as I stood with those two men four trumpets trumpeted together with great voice, and the Grigori broke into song with one voice, and their voice went up before the Lord pitifully and affectingly. https://www.sacred-texts.com/bib/fbe/fbe125.htm

The satan had soldiers called Grigori under his command. They were very large and looked like humans. They rejected Yahweh.

Enoch now receives some insight on creation and the creation of the satan.  We are going backwards in time to the origin of the incorporeal beings. These are an order of beings all to themselves.

The Secrets of Enoch XXIX.
Then it became evening, and then again morning, and it was the second day. [Monday is the first day.] The fiery Essence.
AND for all the heavenly troops I imaged the image and essence of fire, and my eye looked at the very hard, firm rock, and from the gleam of my eye the lightning received its wonderful nature, which is both fire in water and water in fire, and one does not put out the other, nor does the one dry up the other, therefore the lightning is brighter than the sun, softer than water and firmer than hard rock.
2 And from the rock I cut off a great fire, and from the fire I created the orders of the incorporeal ten troops of angels, and their weapons are fiery and their raiment a burning flame, and I commanded that each one should stand in his order.
Here Satanail with his angels was thrown down from the height.
3 And one from out the order of angels, having turned away with the order that was under him, conceived an impossible thought, to place his throne higher than the clouds above the earth, that he might become equal in rank to my power.
4 And I threw him out from the height with his angels, and he was flying in the air continuously above the bottomless.

The orders of the incorporeal are angels of fire. They do not have a physical body, they are different than cherubim, seraphim, and ophanim. The incorporeal class of beings are not angels that look like men. The incorporeal are not made of matter. They can be air, aether, fire, or light. The Incorporeal are dependent on reflection because they have no material construct. In other words, they are not tangible. One cannot grab them. However one can be affected by them. We cannot grab a flame, but we can grab a burning stick. If we touch the flame we get burned. We cannot catch the wind but we can be knocked over by the wind. Some of these beings look better being reflected rather than looked through. This requires a solid surface that is polished, like a gem stone, or precious metal. Reflection makes a flame look like it has substance. Depending on the material used for reflection the actual reflection can either be specular or diffused.

Satanail was thrown out of the heavens between the second and the third day. He conceived an impossible thought. Just as Isaiah tells us, the incorporeal satan wanted to put his throne above the earth and become equal with Yahweh.

Isa 14:13  For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
Isa 14:14  I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

The satan fell before man was created. On the sixth day man was created from invisible and visible nature, with the intelligence from the swiftness of the angels.

The Secrets of Enoch XXX 30:10 [Friday]. On the sixth day I commanded my wisdom to create man from seven consistencies: one, his flesh from the earth; two, his blood from the dew; three, his eyes from the sun; four, his bones from stone; five, his intelligence from the swiftness of the angels and from cloud; six, his veins and his hair from the grass of the earth; seven, his soul from my breath and from the wind.
11 And I gave him seven natures: to the flesh hearing, the eyes for sight, to the soul smell, the veins for touch, the blood for taste, the bones for endurance, to the intelligence sweetness (sc. enjoyment).
12 I conceived a cunning saying to say, I created man from invisible and from visible nature, of both are his death and life and image, he knows speech like some created thing, small in greatness and again great in smallness, and I placed him on earth, a second angel, honourable, great and glorious, and I appointed him as ruler to rule on earth and to have my wisdom, and there was none like him of earth of all my existing creatures.
13 And I appointed him a name, from the four component parts, from east, from west, from south, from north, and I appointed for him four special stars, and I called his name Adam, and showed him the two ways, the light and the darkness, and I told him:
14 'This is good, and that bad,' that I should learn whether he has love towards me, or hatred, that it be clear which in his race love me.
15 For I have seen his nature, but he has not seen his own nature, therefore through not seeing he will sin worse, and I said 'After sin what is there but death?'
16 And I put sleep into him and he fell asleep. And I took from him a rib, and created him a wife, that death should come to him by his wife, and I took his last word and called her name mother, that is to say, Eva.

Mankind has been created in the same image as the angels, and then appointed as ruler to rule on the earth. This tells us that man is similar to angels in appearance, but not exactly like angels. This is why Enoch and others always describe angels as men. Notice that the incorporeal satan does not look like men. The incorporeal beings have no form. They can’t be held, they change shape, and their being can be hot, like fire, lightning, or plasma like a borealis. If we think about the aurora borealis we recognize how beautiful plasma (which consists of electrically charged particles) is.

The heavens were open to the adam and he could see the angels. There was no separation between the adam in paradise and his ability to see the other angels. The devil, draco, corrupted Satanail, and Satanail then seduced Eve.

The Secrets of Enoch XXXI.
God gives over paradise to Adam, and gives him a command to see the heavens opened, and that he should see the angels singing the song of victory.
ADAM has life on earth, and I created a garden in Eden in the east, that he should observe the testament and keep the command.
2 I made the heavens open to him, that he should see the angels singing the song of victory, and the gloomless light.
3 And he was continuously in paradise, and the devil understood that I wanted to create another world, because Adam was lord on earth, to rule and control it.
4 The devil is the evil spirit of the lower places, as a fugitive he made Sotona from the heavens as his name was Satanail, thus he became different from the angels, but his nature did not change his intelligence as far as his understanding of righteous and sinful things.
5 And he understood his condemnation and the sin which he had sinned before, therefore he conceived thought against Adam, in such form he entered and seduced Eva, but did not touch Adam.
6 But I cursed ignorance, but what I had blessed previously, those I did not curse, I cursed not man, nor the earth, nor other creatures, but man's evil fruit, and his works.

Man was not cursed but man’s evil fruit was cursed. The same thing happened to the satan. Sotona, the satan’s name after his corruption by the devil, is now a fugitive from the heavens. What does this mean? When the satan was pricked, goaded, and sported with by the devil, the satan imagined that he would put his throne above the earth and be like Yahweh. The satan then led other angelic beings astray. The satan was perfect until iniquity was found in him. He started to do something interesting, he hoarded what he deemed precious. Let’s read this section in Ezekiel.

Ezekiel 28:11 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 12 Son of man, take up a lamentation for the prince of Tyre, and say to him, Thus saith the Lord God; Thou art a seal of resemblance, and crown of beauty. 13 Thou wast in the delight of the paradise of God; thou hast bound upon thee every precious stone, the sardius, and topaz, and emerald, and carbuncle, and sapphire, and jasper, and silver, and gold, and ligure, and agate, and amethyst, and chrysolite, and beryl, and onyx: and thou hast filled thy treasures and thy stores in thee with gold. 14 From the day that thou wast created thou wast with the cherub: I set thee on the holy mount of God; thou wast in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast faultless in thy days, from the day that thou wast created, until iniquity was found in thee.
16 Of the abundance of thy merchandise thou hast filled thy storehouses with iniquity, and hast sinned: therefore thou hast been cast down wounded from the mount of God, and the cherub has brought thee out of the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Thy heart has been lifted up because of thy beauty; thy knowledge has been corrupted with thy beauty: because of the multitude of thy sins I have cast thee to the ground, I have caused thee to be put to open shame before kings. 18 Because of the multitude of thy sins and the iniquities of thy merchandise, I have profaned thy sacred things; and I will bring fire out of the midst of thee, this shall devour thee; and I will make thee to be ashes upon thy land before all that see thee. 19 And all that know thee among the nations shall groan over thee: thou art gone to destruction, and thou shalt not exist any more.

It is interesting that a being who is incorporeal will be consumed by his own fire coming out from inside him. Yet it was because of his beauty that he was lifted up. Did his hoarding of gold have something to do with his beauty? Was his reflection making him look more grand than he was? Did this corrupt his knowledge?

Gold is gold. It is precious because we put value on it. But the value that the satan put on it is greater than we realize. What did he do? He filled up his treasuries and storehouses. Two places.

So in the heavens the satan filled up treasures and repositories with gold. The gold wasn’t his. He lived among all the precious gems and metals, but he hoarded Yahweh’s gold.

Yahweh created this earth with gold. In Genesis 2 we see the mention of gold and then in Genesis 13 we see that Abraham had gold. The temple had lots of elements of gold. The cherubim and the mercy seat were made of gold.

Exodus 25:17 G2532 And G4160 you shall make G2435 an atonement-seat, G1935.1 a lid G5553 [2gold G2513 1of pure]; G1417 two G4083 cubits G2532 and G2255 a half G3588 is the G3372 length, G2532 and G4083 a cubit G2532 and G2255 a half G3588 the G4114 width.

Someone put value on gold and it was Yahweh. He had gold in his paradise and he included gold on the earth. The satan was already hoarding the gold of paradise before the adam was made. Yet man was unaware of the satan’s hoarding and fell into hoarding gold as well. Kings hoarded gold and the Israelites carried off all the gold out of Egypt. Now we see that gold became a staple for the tabernacle and temple. Eventually the gold of the temple was taken from Israel.

Solomon tells us something interesting. The vanity of men is blinding them to the Creator. Instead men tend to see artistic works and believe them to be gods.

Wisdom 13:13:1 Surely vain are all men by nature, who are ignorant of God, and could not out of the good things that are seen know him that is: neither by considering the works did they acknowledge the workmaster; 2 But deemed either fire, or wind, or the swift air, or the circle of the stars, or the violent water, or the lights of heaven, to be the gods which govern the world. 3 With whose beauty if they being delighted took them to be gods; let them know how much better the Lord of them is: for the first author of beauty hath created them. 4 But if they were astonished at their power and virtue, let them understand by them, how much mightier he is that made them.
5 For by the greatness and beauty of the creatures proportionably the maker of them is seen. 6 But yet for this they are the less to be blamed: for they peradventure err, seeking God, and desirous to find him. 7 For being conversant in his works they search him diligently, and believe their sight: because the things are beautiful that are seen. 8 Howbeit neither are they to be pardoned. 9 For if they were able to know so much, that they could aim at the world; how did they not sooner find out the Lord thereof? http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Wisdom/index.htm

Men looked at fire, wind, swift air, the circle of the stars, violent water, or the lights of heaven, to be gods. They are gods, elohim, but they are not the Creator Elohim. There is a higher God over the lesser gods. Solomon says that they err seeking God, because they believe their sight. They believe what they see, even if what they see is a diffused reflection.

Let’s think about this. There are people who call themselves satanists, or lucifarians. There are many denominations under that title. But what people are doing is worshipping the lesser rather than the Creator. If one knew the track record of the god they worshipped, wouldn’t they realize the devil led the satan astray with the devil’s sporting, pricking, and goading? Then would those people worshipping the satan recognize that their god is as fallible as they are? If those same satanists realized the satan led an entire group of angels into a fallen state, wouldn’t they question the value of worshipping a fallen being that causes others to fall? If those same worshippers of satan recognized that the satan hoarded gold, to reflect his own beauty, and to look bigger, and thereby feel more important, wouldn’t they see the frailty of such a god? Mankind looked to the elements and the other sons of God as if they were the Creator, yet Yahweh the Creator created them.

What seems to be the attraction is the type of being the satan is. He is an incorporeal. He is fire. He can transform himself into an angel of light but he himself has no form. This is different than the angels that look like men, whom the adam was created in their image. The satan was escorted out of the Paradise of God by a cherubim, he doesn’t look like the cherubim or the seraphim, or the ophanim. So this fallen incorporeal has the ability to attract others to follow him. Is it because of his reflection? Is it a reflection of his beauty? Yahweh did not make beings ugly.

In the satan’s case, reflection is the return of his light which is a change in direction of his light back to himself. In other words the light rays emanating from the satan hit the reflective material and return back onto the satan. There are two types of reflection: specular or diffused. A mirror is an example of specular reflection, giving a direct reflection or image of the source. Diffused reflection bounces the light off of the subject in many directions giving a softer less specific appearance, but also a larger and wider appearance.

Man errs being desirous to find God because they believe what they see, even if what they see is a diffused reflection of a created being. The things that are beautiful are seen, therefore believed; yet man did not explore further as to who created this beauty.

Why gold and not silver? The reflection of an incorporeal being from silver is more specular and shows the image in truer form, as opposed to gold which is more diffused. Think of polished gold and polished silver. Silver shows the truer image, gold blurs the image. What people see when they look at the incorporeal is a blurred image that seems larger, wider, and brighter than it truly is. David says that the angels are wind and his servants fire flames. Hebrews quotes David.

φλόξ

David says “Bless Yahweh oh my soul, Yahweh Elohim you are magnified”. David recognized that there are angels formed like the Holy Spirit, a spirit, or wind. He also recognized that Yahweh’s servants are also a fire flame. These are incorporeal beings. They are winds, flames, light or spirit. They can be felt but not held. No one can hold the wind, and no one can hold a flame that isn’t consuming something. It is Yahweh Elohim who made these beings.

Solomon tells us something interesting. He says that compared to the Spirit of Wisdom, gold is like sand. Man himself has one way into the world and one way out of the world. Even kings have the same start and finish.

Wisdom 7:1 I myself also am a mortal man, like to all, and the offspring of him that was first made of the earth, 2 And in my mother’s womb was fashioned to be flesh in the time of ten months, being compacted in blood, of the seed of man, and the pleasure that came with sleep. 3 And when I was born, I drew in the common air, and fell upon the earth, which is of like nature, and the first voice which I uttered was crying, as all others do. 4 I was nursed in swaddling clothes, and that with cares. 5 For there is no king that had any other beginning of birth. 6 For all men have one entrance into life, and the like going out.
7 Wherefore I prayed, and understanding was given me: I called upon God, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. 8 I preferred her before sceptres and thrones, and esteemed riches nothing in comparison of her. 9 Neither compared I unto her any precious stone, because all gold in respect of her is as a little sand, and silver shall be counted as clay before her. 10 I loved her above health and beauty, and chose to have her instead of light: for the light that cometh from her never goeth out.
11 All good things together came to me with her, and innumerable riches in her hands. 12 And I rejoiced in them all, because wisdom goeth before them: and I knew not that she was the mother of them.
13 I learned diligently, and do communicate her liberally: I do not hide her riches. 14 For she is a treasure unto men that never faileth: which they that use become the friends of God, being commended for the gifts that come from learning. http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/Wisdom/index.htm

Solomon preferred the Spirit of Wisdom, an incorporeal being, to riches and rulership. Compared to the Spirit of Wisdom, gold is like sand. It is nothing. Solomon says that he communicates her (Spirit of Wisdom) liberally, and does not hide her riches. She is the treasure we should hoard, not gold. Gold does nothing for us, but the Spirit of Wisdom is a treasure to us that never fails. Through the Spirit of Wisdom we become the friends of God. This is the treasure that we should desire, not gold. Gold does not give humans a clear and sharp image of themselves, but the incorporeal Holy Spirit does.

By the time of the first century, man’s thinking became so warped that the religious leaders believed that swearing by the gold of the temple was more powerful than swearing by the temple itself.

Mat 23:16  Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
Mat 23:17  Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

Jesus is saying that making a promise via the gold of the temple does not make someone a debtor. Yet the religious leaders valued the gold elements in the temple higher than the temple. Why did they think the gold fixtures were more valuable than the whole temple? Who told people gold was valuable? Could that misinformation come from an incorporeal that enjoyed his own beautiful diffused reflection in gold? Would that incorporeal being want people to follow him and store up gold just as he did?

Let’s do a little reflecting. Remember when the glory left the temple because for over three hundred and thirty years there were other beings worshipped alongside Yahweh? Before that happened, if the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom, manifested, what would it look like? It would be bright and shiny in the temple. But when Hezekiah showed off the gold, the Lord decided the gold elements would be carried off to Egypt. So what were the religious leaders of the first century led to believe? They believed that the gold was important. However, wasn’t the Holy Spirit more important? Wouldn’t we rather have the direct reflection of the Holy Spirit instead of gold?

The religious leaders in the first century had forsaken the Holy Spirit and stayed in temple service under a defiled high priest, Jonathan Apphus. They didn’t leave the defiled temple service when the Holy Spirit told them to. Isn’t this why Solomon thought of gold as sand, because the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Wisdom, was more valuable? What if we asked for the specular reflection of the Holy Spirit rather than a diffused reflection? Would we have to cover our eyes or later wear a veil over our face so as to not reflect too brightly for others?

We have a phrase that we use when we feel that someone is tricking us; we say that they did it with “smoke and mirrors”. Isn’t the incorporeal satan just smoke and mirrors? Isn’t he simply a diffused reflection of a created being? Why would we want to worship that instead of our Creator? Instead we should desire the Spirit of Wisdom, so that we can be the friends of Yahweh Elohim, rather than be led by an incorporeal magician. Early on, the desire for the satan to hoard gold tells us that the value of gold was a vain desire of the satan to elevate himself and his own being because he admired his own beauty.

Let’s close by reflecting on Solomon’s words.

Wisdom 7:22 For wisdom, which is the worker of all things, taught me: for in her is an understanding spirit holy, one only, manifold, subtil, lively, clear, undefiled, plain, not subject to hurt, loving the thing that is good quick, which cannot be letted, ready to do good, 23 Kind to man, steadfast, sure, free from care, having all power, overseeing all things, and going through all understanding, pure, and most subtil, spirits.
24 For wisdom is more moving than any motion: she passeth and goeth through all things by reason of her pureness. 25 For she is the breath of the power of God, and a pure influence flowing from the glory of the Almighty: therefore can no defiled thing fall into her. 26 For she is the brightness of the everlasting light, the unspotted mirror of the power of God, and the image of his goodness. 27 And being but one, she can do all things: and remaining in herself, she maketh all things new: and in all ages entering into holy souls, she maketh them friends of God, and prophets.
28 For God loveth none but him that dwelleth with wisdom. 29 For she is more beautiful than the sun, and above all the order of stars: being compared with the light, she is found before it. 30 For after this cometh night: but vice shall not prevail against wisdom.
