Abraham and Lot Part Ways, Underground Tunnels in Mexico and the Terracotta Army in China

We talked in previous blogs about under water cities.  We have also talked about underground cities in Turkey.  We explored radar images in Egypt of underground structures and cities. Here is another find of tunnels under pyramids in Teotihuacan. Discovered after a heavy rain, when the ground sank, it is being speculated as burial tombs and chambers under the pyramids. Artifacts were found in the tunnels as excavation continues.  In China Emperor Quin was not buried alone, he was buried with 8,000 life size terracotta warriors.  There are so many mysteries under the ground. What reason did the Emperor have for all those life size army figures?  Why would people go through so much trouble to bury things underground with the dead?  I don’t have any answers; I just find the archeology and the questions fascinating.

I think all of us could think of one of our own relatives or a family member who has an inconsiderate personality to the extent that they have been an embarrassment to the family.  Sometimes it is hard for some people to hang around with embarrassing people because it reflects poorly on them. Abraham was no different.  I’m sure Abraham felt some responsibility for Lot as Lots father died in Nimrod’s fire, due to Abraham’s birth and Terah’s lie regarding his son Haran.  If we remember when Terah stayed behind in Haran he asked Abraham to take Lot with him.  Lot however did not have the same type of courtesy for the people of Canaan as Abraham did.  Lot’s behavior is like a bad neighbor. We’ve all had them; the neighbor who leaves their dog outside all day barking, the neighbor who lets their dog make a mess on other peoples yards, the neighbor with teens who likes being the friend to the wild teens who make noise late at night.  It says a lot about people who act that way.  The people who look like brother and sister super Christian at church aren’t always concerned about the people they live near.

Jasher 15:35 And Lot the son of Haran, Abram's brother, had a heavy stock of cattle, flocks and herds and tents, for the Lord was bountiful to them on account of Abram. 36 And when Abram was dwelling in the land the herdsmen of Lot quarrelled with the herdsmen of Abram, for their property was too great for them to remain together in the land, and the land could not bear them on account of their cattle. 37 And when Abram's herdsmen went to feed their flock they would not go into the fields of the people of the land, but the cattle of Lot's herdsmen did otherwise, for they were suffered to feed in the fields of the people of the land. 38 And the people of the land saw this occurrence daily, and they came to Abram and quarrelled with him on account of Lot's herdsmen.

So Abraham had to confront Lot.

39 And Abram said to Lot, What is this thou art doing to me, to make me despicable to the inhabitants of the land, that thou orderest thy herdsman to feed thy cattle in the fields of other people? Dost thou not know that I am a stranger in this land amongst the children of Canaan, and why wilt thou do this unto me? 40 And Abram quarrelled daily with Lot on account of this, but Lot would not listen to Abram, and he continued to do the same and the inhabitants of the land came and told Abram.41 And Abram said unto Lot, How long wilt thou be to me for a stumbling block with the inhabitants of the land? Now I beseech thee let there be no more quarrelling between us, for we are kinsmen.42 But I pray thee separate from me, go and choose a place where thou mayest dwell with thy cattle and all belonging to thee, but Keep thyself at a distance from me, thou and thy household.43 And be not afraid in going from me, for if any one do an injury to thee, let me know and I will avenge thy cause from him, only remove from me.

Abraham vows to protect Lot, which seems pretty nice of him.  By now I would think he should not feel obligated to take care of Lot.

44 And when Abram had spoken all these words to Lot, then Lot arose and lifted up his eyes toward the plain of Jordan 45 And he saw that the whole of this place was well watered, and good for man as well as affording pasture for the cattle.46 And Lot went from Abram to that place, and he there pitched his tent and he dwelt in Sodom, and they were separated from each other.47 And Abram dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and he pitched his tent there, and Abram remained in that place many years.

The Bible tells us the same thing:

Gen 13:1-18 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south. 2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. 3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai; 4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord. 5 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. 6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together. 7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land. 8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren. 9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. 11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. 12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. 13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the Lord exceedingly.

Now after Lot had left, the bible tells us that the Lord tells Abraham he will make his seed as the dust of the earth.

14 And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: 15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. 16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. 17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee. 18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the Lord. KJV

Josephus 8:3
As soon as Abram was come back into Canaan, he parted the land between him and Lot, upon account of the tumultuous behavior of their shepherds, concerning the pastures wherein they should feed their flocks. However, he gave Lot his option, or leave, to choose which lands he would take; and he took himself what the other left, which were the lower grounds at the foot of the mountains; and he himself dwelt in Hebron, which is a city seven years more ancient than Tunis of Egypt. But Lot possessed the land of the plain, and the river Jordan, not far from the city of Sodom, which was then a fine city, but is now destroyed, by the will and wrath of God, the cause of which I shall show in its proper place hereafter.

What happens next is that Lot gets caught in a war between the cities of the plains and Abraham goes to save him.
